[0:12] another one of my famous starts i want to go through oh tired yeah i would i would like to explain my

[0:19] current status as a symbol of fatherhood and specifically i am wearing this dress shirt

[0:27] because my baby had fallen asleep and all my other shirts post shower were inside where the baby was sleeping so this was the only thing available i’m

[0:35] clearly overdressed for this podcast secondly is this delicious coffee baby additionally still sleeping too lightly

[0:44] for the coffee machine and its noises there was and there was no way i was not gonna have coffee so instead i prepared it and then

[0:51] brought it with me into the bathroom and had it brew in the bathroom while i was showering to ensure that i would have coffee

[1:00] because this is liquid sanity that i was not going to go without coffee sound with the white noise of a shower

[1:08] this is like very clever this is like your parents going out and like hiding a smoke right like they just need to like get their fix and they need to do this

[1:17] technique to hide it from you you just brew the coffee in your bathroom it’s like you can’t brew there the baby’s gonna wake up fine the coffee

[1:25] maker’s coming with me in the shower coffee’s happening let me tell you welcome to new dad gaming a show up

[1:33] show but if that doesn’t represent fatherhood i’m not sure what does a show about gaming fatherhood and new fathers trying

[1:40] to figure out their gaming lives my name is trevor and i have a barely sleeping six month old my name is gavin i have an almost four

[1:48] month old i’m jeff i have a two and a half and a five year probably five and a half changed a

[1:55] little while are they i don’t know so there’s two of them i can’t i’ve lost count

[2:01] i wake up every morning two are eating breakfast so i go with them next week is like i have four now yeah

[2:13] what age are you i’m so tired i just watched an episode of uh the jim gaffigan show uh he’s a comedian who has like five kids

[2:22] yeah and it feels just kind of about his life of having five kids in a two-bedroom new york apartment while also maintaining a career as a

[2:29] comedian it’s pretty funny like i think that there’s some good stuff is it bio autobiographical or is it like a

[2:37] straight up comedy because i know like i know he did live that life might have understood oh yeah no they they i guess they do live in a really small apartment

[2:45] with a whole like mini herd of children and uh yeah

[2:53] yeah the first episode i saw was all about him and his wife kind of uh playing this sort of poker game about will he or will he not get a vasectomy

[3:02] and will he be man enough to follow through with the threat of a vasectomy or something i don’t know that was after they had a uh you know

[3:11] what they thought was their sixth pregnancy wow six that’s getting to the point where like

[3:20] the oldest one can now take care of the smallest one so it that the your burden is much lessened i think at that point

[3:29] jebediah take care of the small one mommy daddy you’re sleeping still yeah yeah

[3:36] that you would have when it’s like well we had a farm to run so these cows aren’t going to milk themselves

[3:44] battling numbers here you know oh yeah so gavin how was your week in fatherhood and gaming

[3:52] good uh fatherhood was uh was a bit of an adventure we had a trip to my hometown to show the baby off to some extended family and that was a lot of

[4:00] fun the theme from lion king play during the day that’s pretty good

[4:10] just like yeah i’ve seen the movie a lot i’ll probably see it even more um yeah i realized this was my first time

[4:19] really traveling as a dad or just like her like my wife and i as parents and just

[4:26] how much stuff this little person needs and it’s

[4:34] pretty uh wow it’s like wow um and yeah but we’re pretty happy with how it all

[4:42] went and traveling went well and she was a trooper through it all um got to visit my friends um who just had twins like last night

[4:51] and uh i feel so bad i was like we’re okay we’re doing all right we’re okay we only have to deal with one of these little humans screaming at

[5:00] us so it’s okay um their kids are really cute though uh and they wanted to have two so they just just did it and it’s like just do it

[5:09] with one shot done yeah see they gotta put in a girl too so they got like the complete set i think that’s that’s good though

[5:16] because i think it’s so you do your eight month or your one year of absolute misery and you’re out like it does it it probably is

[5:24] would you call it double the misery or it’s like one and a half so brutal it would be like you’d have to synchronize their poop cycles like what happens if

[5:32] like you know one poops and then you like change the other and then the other one poops just going back and forth once feeding one’s not

[5:39] no not for me just just imagining no god no

[5:47] overlapping you see like man just the dread that has come over jeff’s face you’re real you’re in the moment

[5:55] like because you can’t even see where his shirt ends and his face begins so gavin ain’t leaving when you were leaving and you’re packing

[6:06] up your kid and i’m i’m completely with you it is absurd how much stuff it takes to pack up a baby someone so small and

[6:15] feeble like did you kind of before you ever did it did you have it in your head that you know what it we’re not gonna pack that much i know

[6:23] parents talk about it but will be reasonable or did you kind of assume did you have no assumptions did you have an assumption that you would be better or

[6:29] did you assume you would just be packing like nuts no because like when we were thinking about it it’s like

[6:36] well she’s got to sleep in something and like we have a like a travel bassinet that she sleeps in like all the time

[6:44] um just because it’s the bassinet that fits well in our apartment and uh it allows us to have her sleeping next to the bed without like a full crib in a

[6:54] single bedroom which just wouldn’t work with our bedroom set um but what’s great is that like we were pretty smart in what items

[7:02] we got like a lot of the things we got like really just transform in onto themselves and use like

[7:09] singularity science to make themselves smaller somehow i don’t know we had those tablets that you put in water they’re like the size of an

[7:17] antacid and you run it under water and it turns into a wet wipe so you don’t have to bring like a whole thing of work to just

[7:23] bring like a tube of these like tablets i was kind of off on a fantastical journey i thought you’re gonna say it turns into a bed yeah it turns into like

[7:30] clothing i’m like where are you from survival or something or we have these pedals and you plant them in the ground they turn into a one

[7:38] bedroom apartment um no i yeah like i thought maybe i’m like you know i think we’d still be okay but it’s like because we’re being smart

[7:47] we’re buying things that are really compact and they fold in and stuff and at the end of the day it’s like no this is still a pack mule trying to load and

[7:55] unload the car in one trip i look like a sherpa like i just got stuff piled on piles on piles um and on top of that we have the dog

[8:04] with us as well and like he doesn’t have much stuff but it’s a dog on a leash running around your ankles while you’re trying to

[8:10] balance things on your head so uh you ever play the tetris theme song in your mind when you’re trying to stuff the car

[8:18] every time i’m holding the trunk all i hear in the bag

[8:34] yeah i think i just had this assumption where i’d seen like with my my brother with kids and friends with

[8:40] kids and seeing how they packed there’s just like it’s see that seems a little much i think it’s over prepared i’m gonna try to i’m gonna keep it lean and

[8:47] clean and then like we packed them up for the first time and it’s just like oh god i am

[8:51] i’m right i’m just as bad as anything i’ve ever seen this is ridiculous like why do we need all these things baby

[9:00] too is that when we got to our hometown we had a lot of really like generous family uh giving us wonderful

[9:08] things which i then had to try to find room in the car for to bring back with us so it’s like we

[9:14] got this really nice big blanket that you can play on and it’s really fun but it was a big blanket so i’m literally just i have like the the snow

[9:24] brush and i’m tamping it into the trunk to try to get it in and

[9:30] it all fit at the end and it’s like luckily those things like blankets and soft stuff that you can’t break it’s not like here’s a faberge egg for her

[9:38] i don’t know it’s like all pretty decent easy to pack stuff but ah your car is just like scraping along the highway in the back sparks flying

[9:47] the uh jeff have you found that like with as your kids age have aged it gets better like the amount of packing or it gets worse

[9:55] um it gets better yeah it definitely gets better something gets better

[10:02] you won’t lose the big items though so you won’t lose like a pack and play right you need somewhere for them to sleep so you have the big items but

[10:10] it does get better so you don’t have to bring like when they’re off bottles obviously you don’t have to bring all that stuff and like they’re cooler with

[10:17] milk in it yeah yeah and they’re like big hunky toys like they’re now good with smaller stuff so it does get better but then you have a

[10:26] second

[10:31] gets one and then you have twins right jeff oh god that reset button yeah and then gets worse so so much worse well our second

[10:43] too just quickly um we cry in the car like the entire time and we found out later it was like a stomach acid issue so we dealt with that for a good

[10:53] three months of crying not knowing what it was if it was diet or if it was something else if it was uncomfortable or he pooped or

[11:00] whatever so crying baby in a car ride for an hour was trying yeah we were pretty lucky like the car

[11:08] ride went you know not gonna move but it went well but i can there’s been times where she’s been crying in the car and i’m just like

[11:14] eyes on the road eyes on the road eyes on the road yeah yeah but no the trip went really well uh fatherhood this week was was really it

[11:22] was great to show her off and have her have her meet a lot of the family and have the family meet her like that was great

[11:29] and uh as far as gaming goes um uh yesterday i picked up a copy of uh just cause uh three and uh i was wondering i was wondering if you’d

[11:40] pull the trigger given your fallout 4 uh adventure obsession mine sounds a little nicer but obsession

[11:50] no i picked it up because i thought you know i might as well have something to jump back and forth because you know uh

[11:58] i’m in it for the i’m committed to follow four and i just want to make sure that we have some alone time um so that way the relationship is strong

[12:07] uh hold on no no no let’s need that out a little let’s tease that out a little bit so in order to have a good relationship you need a

[12:16] little something on the side to keep the other one interesting is that what you’ve just said i just want to i want to be clear

[12:24] that is most certainly not what i just said jeff

[12:33] judges surf survey says no just cause this would gain that like the second one i played so so much and it’s

[12:41] a series that i almost have as much appreciation for as fallout uh almost not quite as much um

[12:49] and yeah i just i everything looks like it it blows up very nicely and it does and it’s really fun and it’s got all the weird physics bugs

[12:58] that the other one had but i kind of love it for it like it’ll be on a wingsuit going like 70 miles an hour and you know just face

[13:07] playing on the highway and just you get up and brush it off and you’re fine what’s good about a game that’s like so extreme like that is that

[13:17] it’s not trying since it’s not taking itself so seriously when a bug like that happens it’s like it’s all it’s part of the fun whereas when you’re in a game

[13:25] that is so heavy and serious and then you know the guy starts to glitch out and like float away into the sky like it totally rips

[13:32] you out of it whereas in this world that’s all it’s all part of the fun you see an explosion send like a bad guy flailing off over the horizon in this

[13:41] game and you’re like that was awesome you saw what happened in grand theft auto you’d be like no that’s not really plausible

[13:49] you know and it depends on how how heavy of an anchor it has in reality and just cause absolutely no anchor in reality

[13:58] um there are some things about it that they’ve removed from the previous one that i wish they kept like there’s no sprint button

[14:05] that’s weird it’s weird because it’s like i could i can press in the left thumbstick and it does nothing oh i’m not sprinting you could have made me

[14:14] sprint everybody’s shooting at me let me run away he’s angry he’s whispering yeah so uh

[14:23] yeah and they’re in the second one there was like you could do this cool like dodge cartridge wheel thing to like get out of the way of gunfire because

[14:31] everybody in the game like all the enemies shoot at you at once um so in the previous installment i was like running and diving and then

[14:39] shooting and then zipping up onto the rooftop and then jumping and parachuting like just all over the map and this one i feel like

[14:46] because i can’t run or dive it hinders my movement a bit and i’ve been dying a lot because of it i’m like why don’t i have the thing you used to

[14:54] let me do like i could do all these other cool things that’s great but the actual getting out of the way

[15:01] component isn’t there so that i think that’s my one main complaint in it is just there’s this for some like myself i come from playing

[15:10] so much of just cause 2 that the controls were so familiar and i was really good at the game at that point

[15:19] and to leave that game and go to its sequel and feel like a total noob like wait a second i was really good on your

[15:26] previous game i’m your primary customer like i’m your candidate like i i saw the matrix in your last installment

[15:35] why don’t i get this why am i dying i should be just rocking this um so yeah yeah i could see i think like if if i

[15:44] had played batman origins and having come on coming off of arkham city like if they changed the fight mechanism you don’t have that familiarity

[15:53] curious thing about series yeah i suppose if they’ve they’ve done gone and changed all the moves on you like you’ve lost

[15:59] that mastery which is kind of a that’s a bit that’s quite a letdown actually it’s dangerous yeah it’s tough like i’ll get my head around it eventually

[16:08] like but it does have quite a shock to the system like something that should feel like

[16:14] when i started playing fallout 4 like it felt like like this familiar old leather jacket that i’ve worn and i know every little milk and

[16:22] cranny it just feels right it feels familiar it’s you know

[16:29] there’s nothing about it like there’s all this new stuff to it but the old standbys are still there the old control scheme the old

[16:38] button mapping all that stuff is still there where now i feel like there’s a certain the feel aspect of this one is slightly

[16:46] different and it’s kind of throwing me for a loop and i guess yeah that’s that’s something that i don’t see very often in games

[16:52] where like even uh borderlands one and two like the feel of those games were identical there was a lot more stuff in

[17:01] the second one a lot more nuances and things to do but the core like running and jumping and shooting and stuff it felt familiar

[17:08] um so yeah like i i think games do need to take chances once in a while and switch things up uh

[17:16] from just cause one to just cause two in an entirely different game in feel and look um and i felt like in just cause two

[17:25] they really got it right but then they scrapped some of those things that i really liked for the third one that i’m not sure if it was a good

[17:32] choice but it might win me over like i’m only a little bit yeah that kind of goes along to something we discussed before we’re

[17:39] getting into a new game especially given our now dad limited hours that we can possibly spend into it is a bit of a jump like a

[17:47] leap of faith i only have so much time do i want to bother learning all these mechanics so it’s a smaller jump when it’s a game

[17:54] in a series that you know because i’ll simply just get back into the groove that i’d already been into but now if they’ve

[17:59] gone and changed all those things it kind of ruins that advantage that’s curious

[18:06] so the jeff yourself how was your week in fatherhood in gaming um i went to a kid’s birthday party on the weekend oh boy oh my god

[18:18] um they’re always great lots of energy and everybody you remember when you were a kid

[18:24] you’d always have birthday parties in you know that person’s house so everybody would gather in the house right you would more than likely you

[18:31] know run out in the backyard you’d do something you come in for cake whatever no one does that anymore so they go off site to like an indoor playground or

[18:40] this weekend it was a trampoline place and like the whole ground is trampolines i don’t know if you’ve been to them but

[18:48] you will i’ve actually always wanted to go to that place it looks like a lot of fun oh it looks it’s amazing it’s

[18:55] amazing inside yeah but of course it’s for the kids whatever wait did you not jump you telling me you didn’t no no you have to well you have

[19:03] to watch a man just wait it is it’s not just one birthday party that goes in there right so there’s this birthday party that has 15

[19:11] five-year-olds that get the place along with five other birthday parties of 15 kids of random ages so this place is packed with jumping kids you’re not

[19:20] gonna go jumping yourself when you’re trying to watch your kid from running away and starting a fire or something like just flying knees and

[19:27] flying elbows all over the place kids dropping left and right everywhere like it’s it’s in a crazy place but i totally understand

[19:35] why people don’t do it in their house anymore because 15 five-year-olds is nuts like you can go there you rent a room they serve pizza they serve cake

[19:43] you leave it they clean it it’s awesome so i completely recommend that you just take it off site do it do they have a

[19:50] bar for the adults they should at least not the trunk of my car but they should have a bar in there definitely a five-year-old’s

[20:00] birthday party yeah [ __ ] with all the other dads just come back to the parking lot just lock the

[20:04] doors it’s okay they’re in the building yeah just cracking cold ones grilling ribs but i kind of want to go back there they

[20:11] have uh adult uh dodgeball like leagues so you play dodgeball on trampolines like the whole grounds of trampoline like sidewalls too and you play

[20:20] dodgeball future sports it’s and they have basketball nets like way up high so you can jump on the trampoline and i’m a short dude so that

[20:28] looks awesome to me yeah i’m done something once in my life but it was exhausting for him and me and then my wife was away at a girls weekend

[20:39] so i had both kids and it was just trying to stay awake for the rest of the weekend and see if i could put them to bed early and kind of convince them

[20:46] to hey look it’s dark out it’s not winter it’s just your time for bed so um but yeah exhausting but good

[20:56] uh gaming wise i did purchase witcher 3 on black friday which is amazing it’s so good the detail in it is

[21:07] beyond anything like it’s my uh there i say it my final fantasy vii at this point like this is like the game that i love right now

[21:17] um trevor you love it too it’s got like a card game in it called gwent i don’t know if you’ve read a lot it’s

[21:23] hearthstone it’s basically hearthstone i wasn’t even gonna mention her at stone that’s not a hurtstone in a game it’s a game within a game

[21:30] and you’re playing this game but you have to go and collect cards and that’s just a little side aspect of it right so and then you’re

[21:36] going around doing all these quests that are just everything is character driven so

[21:43] you think that like a side character is well voiced and like oh they can’t kill him because they’ve hired this actor to do it and he’s all properly lip

[21:52] synced and he’s got just the character models and then he dies in the next scene it’s like somebody spent like three months

[22:00] creating this person style uh like character loyalty or it’s like game of thrones just does not care

[22:08] yeah it’s just killing off whatever nobody’s safe doesn’t matter so so along those same lines like we i mean the thing we just mentioned the

[22:18] limited dad time going into a series you were in witcher 1 right yeah but did you know that you could take

[22:27] that leap because of reviews or did you just assume it would get better like how did you make that jump because you hated which one that was not going well for

[22:34] you witcher one had a completely so it goes back to what we were saying completely different battle system so it was like a click and then dodge click

[22:42] where this one’s more kind of like a batman-esque technique where you do have to dodge but you do have to go in

[22:50] um like you have to put certain oils on your sword you have to use the proper sword for either monsters or humans and

[22:56] then you know they degrade so if you use the wrong one it’s going to degrade faster if you don’t use the right oil it’s going to degrade faster then you

[23:03] have signs which is basically magic and you learn all this i learned all it in witcher 1 but it’s so well implemented in witcher 3 so kind of

[23:13] taking from both the reviews and my short time with witcher 1 it would just seem like a great world that i knew it was kind of

[23:20] something i wanted to get into like castles and magic tutorial

[23:25] and like crash course in the world building and then you’re able to take what you’ve learned in that short period of time and

[23:32] just apply it to their best work so far yeah yeah it’s just it seems like the best book in a series

[23:39] right like i i and it you can take kind of like a like a small tutorial on the last two and kind of get a feel for what’s

[23:46] happening in the world and then it kind of pushes you into like a brand new um story so it gives you the gist of the

[23:53] character where he’s been what he’s done and then you make choices that affect the world completely like i made a bad choice one time and then a whole

[24:02] community was raised like note don’t let an arsonist go because he’s like i’ll let you go i’ll pay you money and you’re like yes okay

[24:11] or you could take him back and he’ll get his head chopped off so you let him go and he does some bad things

[24:17] so don’t but it’s really cool i i am totally involved totally invested it’s my fault so speaking um i mean speaking of games

[24:26] you can’t play around your kids though oh god no no it’s like it’s like straight up rated

[24:34] well i don’t say r that’s probably going it’s yeah there’s sex in it there’s sex violence um all sorts of crazy stuff like it’s a very adult

[24:43] like it’s based off of a bunch of books which i have not read but it’s very adult themed so game of thrones-ish hbo yes

[24:51] yes is there so is there swearing yeah oh yeah like not every other word but some like if

[24:59] something people are drunk and they swear off rhymes you go past people and they’re swearing at you so

[25:06] um can’t play around the kids so in order to what i justify is to deter that i bought a pair of uh sony gold’s wireless headset on black friday which

[25:17] is 50 bucks which is nuts awesome surround sound all in it and the kids don’t hear wireless like bluetooth

[25:26] connection it comes with its own uh dongle that you put in so i imagine it’s bluetooth ask i thought the playstation had it

[25:34] yeah usually there’s like a unifying receiver or something so it’s a little usb-one and then yeah that’s good yeah it comes with that and as a battery life

[25:42] uh so far so good i think some people will complain that there’s a little short but my play sessions right max three hours like i don’t think i

[25:51] could go more than that without sleep so they work well for dads i’d recommend it an interesting thing is that like the

[26:01] lifespan of electronics as far as like wireless and battery life since our gaming sessions are shorter yeah we have as much of a concern

[26:10] in regards to like well i need bluetooth headphones that are going to last like 12 hours it’s like yeah nobody should have headphones that last one no

[26:18] yeah buy the brake or you’re going to blind what type of walk are you taking that’s 12 hours that you need constant music

[26:25] for like that you can’t possibly charge in between no yeah no it’s not it’s good i almost think

[26:32] that’s a bit of a sounds like it’s a bit of a risk though because the you have your headset on you’re inside of the world you have no idea what’s

[26:37] going on you don’t hear little uh little little jude come outside you look over

[26:44] he’s got this like mouth of gape saying seeing all the wonders of the world he’s practicing the moves in the back

[26:50] yeah so i don’t know which scene you’re talking about that’d be pretty dangerous i still have the um still i will recommend another good tip uh we had a

[26:59] camera uh monitor so we paired them up so we can see what they’re doing in their house or in their

[27:06] room so versus just like the baby monitor which has sound definitely recommend a video monitor

[27:12] when they get older because they’re running around the room doing something and you don’t know what it is but you don’t want to go up open the door you

[27:17] know what i mean so we have the video monitor so i can check but yeah that was our um that was my

[27:24] big black friday purchase which i thought was again per the perfect summation of fatherhood now

[27:31] it’s like black friday i got the like this gaming controller and i got these headsets and i got this game this is great like this year it’s like yeah i

[27:38] got this sick baby monitor it doesn’t interfere with my wifi and i can totally see my kids that was like yeah man that’s a whole

[27:49] thing in itself there’s like a thousand sites that are reviewing it there’s an additional thousand people reviewing

[27:56] these things on amazon and no two reviews are alike whatsoever so it’s just really in the dark i came close to buying

[28:04] it what i think what would have been cooler but ultimately a little bit irresponsible is there’s the nest video

[28:11] camera like the thing looks really good it looks really cool i can i love that company and the products they produce

[28:17] product looks great uh some people said it works pretty well as a monitor but like ultimately like because it’s not built for that right like that’s not

[28:26] the one thing it’s supposed to do and there’s some sort of comfort that comes with the thought that this item is made to monitor babies

[28:34] and that’s that’s the thing it does so like if there’s one thing it’ll do well whereas like nests can kind can also do that like it’s why don’t we get

[28:42] something that is custom built for this purpose of child watching so but uh about to enjoy the i don’t i don’t know why we have it i

[28:51] mean he’s up every hour so like i know what he’s doing he’s either he’s he’s either awake or preparing to be

[28:59] awake right we just have the audio one um this one working great it was nice to like about the audio one is the one we have has

[29:07] like a little loop at the top and you can hook a carabiner to it so when we’re visiting people and like like we were at a

[29:17] uh at my wife’s uh parents place so we had the daughter up in the one bedroom sleeping and we had a baby monitor there and i had a carabiner with

[29:28] like the walkie-talkie attached to my hip so it let me kind of

[29:33] have the sound with me like i i couldn’t do that with a video one but with the audio on it was nice because when right now like she’s so

[29:42] just not moving yet like she’s flails but that’s about it that all we really need is the sound but yeah jeff you make a good point about

[29:51] knowing what’s going on without being in the room and getting their attention and having them think it’s play time

[29:59] yeah when they’re a little older like when they’re young like your yours is young so we we had the audio one with the heartbeat

[30:06] one like the heartbeat pad and then when it when he was kind of older one through the sleep sheet for the okay

[30:14] yeah yeah yeah but when they start moving around right yeah they can climb out of the crib that’s what

[30:26] yes let me pitch an app idea for you so on your playstation picture in picture and in the top left at all times is just

[30:35] the baby monitor and then if he wakes up everything in your game gets like 20 times harder so if you don’t care take care of your baby

[30:43] you’re gonna die in game so you best go take care of it it disables the save function so you have to choose between the game

[30:51] and your living breathing child that’s that’s it like a taxation thing or like if your baby wakes up or if your baby isn’t like

[31:00] seen to immediately then um it will take like 20 of your character’s uh financial wealth

[31:10] and just decrease it like every second yeah it’s like every 10 seconds you delay in responding to your child’s pride it just

[31:18] chips away 20 of your net worth this is an awful app it started out so innocently it’s such a great idea

[31:26] it’s degraded quickly um yeah uh what about you trevor how’s your uh week in fatherhood and gaming

[31:36] yeah so the you know the ultimate struggle in that he’s uh not sleeping uh unfortunately the poor little guy has been sick for

[31:44] the last couple days so it’s been especially hard and we were just about to implement some sleep training and the two of them unfortunately kind

[31:51] of overlapped which was particularly disastrous but because you’re not supposed to do the sleep training when they’re sick but

[31:57] we didn’t quite catch them and then so it was it it has been miserable that way uh

[32:03] he’s amazing though because six months it’s uh he’s sitting up on his own now or like almost up on his own he his reaction his ability to focus and try to

[32:12] grab stuff like it’s so endearing although the just everything about the sleep is hilarious like it’s

[32:21] he still has that habit of trying to wake up or trying to wakes up in middle and i’d say about four o’clock and it’s just up for an hour or two

[32:29] and one of those points i was able to get him to sleep and he’s on my shoulder bouncing now at this point i’m at the other end of the house

[32:36] and now i have to indiana jones style like dodge and weave through toys and like clothing and everything else that’s on

[32:46] the floor avoid every creaky thing creaky crack in my in my flooring as well to get to the other side of the room

[32:54] just so i can try to put them down again indiana jones style with the uh the gold statue you should go through your your floor

[33:02] and take the painters tape and put little x’s on the floor yeah wherever there’s a creek okay nice i got it i got it down pack now like i

[33:11] know exactly right now oh i’m sober no but i just remember the thought it was again

[33:17] it’s like 4 30 in the morning i’m exhausted i’m on the other side of the house and he drops and i’m looking at what now seems like the longest

[33:24] distance i’ve ever seen in my life to the bedroom there’s a camera trick where like the camera moves out but zooms in at the

[33:31] same time and yeah which is like so much so but uh as a you know what it’s just it is what it is

[33:41] um small little steps and he’s doing great he’s i think we’re gonna get to the point now where we do the training uh

[33:47] we’ll wait till he’s feeling better yeah and you know guy’s got enough on his plate so

[33:53] yeah and he’ll pick it up uh gaming wise it’s funny because i in in within all those sessions where i had to just be with him uh trying to

[34:01] soothe him or calm or just you know play with him because he has too much energy i was trying to find something that i could watch that

[34:07] lots of lights and colors that he might kind of enjoy as well and i ended up on star wars uh

[34:15] jeez droid it’s the animated one with the droids

[34:27] that’s great like great series a lot of fun like uh bright lights like cool characters uh it was really enjoying it but what’s funny about it was i’m

[34:34] watching these characters zip around in space and go around their ships like do these big attacks and i got this like huge

[34:40] yearning to go back and play elite dangerous so in watching all these like all these space battles it was just like oh i need

[34:49] to go hop in my spaceship again i haven’t been there for quite some time did you did you did you end up doing oh yeah no

[34:58] i played a couple sessions of it was amazing it was great the um it’s tricky with that one because it they just released a expansion

[35:06] and not to triple check the price but i’m pretty sure it’s up there it’s it’s somewhere between 30 and 60 dollars for an expansion now this is this really

[35:13] is a second game but yeah i don’t know it’s it’s like you do need the the original game though

[35:23] like you do need yeah the primary yeah it’s not like the standalone yeah and i think i think i have enough stuff to play through and just even some backlog

[35:30] that like i think i’ll wait for some sort of sale on it because it looks kind of great doesn’t honestly doesn’t look great enough one of the problems with

[35:37] that game was density that someone put a grade that it has incredible width but not a lot of density in a sense that the

[35:45] galaxy is massive there’s so many stars there’s so many planets to see but ultimately like when you’re getting into missions it’s like take this here

[35:53] kill this guy uh you know go and collect this like very very very shallow in that respect

[36:00] so and this expansion doesn’t seem to solve a lot of it i think they will but i think the expansion just expands in the one measurement that they’re

[36:09] already already good with yeah it doesn’t expand in the other dimension that they needed a little bit

[36:16] more like it sounded so cool in the sense that you can now land on planets they had this whole universe and you couldn’t get on planets and now you can

[36:23] you can totally just land on a planet and they have bases they have um like shipwrecks a bunch of things like that however it

[36:30] mostly just looks like like kind of boring desert there’s no real variety to them like it’s not like you

[36:38] got a jungle world you get a water world it’s like literally played um x3 no never the x series was another space

[36:47] sim series before elite dangerous um and x3 it was pretty deep like you could um do anything from become like a mercenary to you could build your own factories

[37:00] and then take alien technology and reverse engineer it to then manufacture in your factories and then have that intersect with the economy in

[37:08] the game to make you more money uh yeah it was a huge game i dumped a few hours in it and i barely even

[37:15] scratched the enamel coating it was it was really good but it almost wore me out for space sims uh that one and the other space in my fell in love

[37:25] with a long time ago it was called freelancer and that one was fantastic it was just you would have a ship

[37:34] and you could sell your ship and get new ships depending on what jobs you wanted so if you’re like a space trucker you could get a ship that was based on like

[37:41] just hauling cargo and you just cover it and turret so the pirates won’t stand a chance um

[37:49] and they had like this highway system that you could use that would take you from different uh star ports but you could jump off of it at any time to just

[37:56] explore like nebulas to try to find like shipwrecks and stuff and i remember the end battle took place inside of the dyson sphere

[38:06] and a dyson sphere is essentially the vacuum so he’s just like no no it’s sponsored sponsored by dyson

[38:15] it’s a concept of building it’s essentially a star within the surface of a planet

[38:23] like an artificial planet built around a star so it maximizes the planet’s ability to absorb uv

[38:30] radiation so basically it was a giant space station built around a sun and you’re fighting inside between the crust of this of the surface of the inverse

[38:41] planet and the sun and you’re fighting like all these robots it was so nuts it was awesome wow yeah that was a really good space

[38:49] then that sounds amazing sorry you’re talking about space sim so much and i just have this flood of like oh man i remember the dog fight that was

[38:58] so good see that’s kind of the that is the big my biggest problem with the expansion is that the uh and i’ll say a lot of it on there’s

[39:05] i still really enjoy the game it’s got a bunch of those elements you can be a you can pirate people you can do nothing but trading

[39:12] you can do nothing but missions you can get you can get ranks within armies i’ll say like a lot of it is a lot of it seems to be community there’s community

[39:20] goals where you participate with you know thousands of other people and if you succeed this um

[39:26] one person will get more uh power within a certain sector there’s all these great little parts of it what’s nice and how they’ve done it what makes it kind of

[39:33] dad friendly is as a they’ve segmented it they actually have what they call like solo mode you don’t have to be

[39:40] in the galaxy with all everybody else okay and what however what they do still affects your galaxy so it’s not like you’re just

[39:48] completely on your own like all the you’re not quarantined but you don’t have to compete like you would with uh like an mmo or with like destiny

[39:57] kind of style where you have to really participate absolutely so it is so it’s great because sometimes if you just want to be

[40:03] left alone and trade and only deal with like ai and not be overtaken by the galaxy’s worst human pirate you totally so in that sense it’s

[40:13] actually very friendly what’s challenging is you’ve met you mentioned a bunch of sims space sims one of the more exciting ones that’s coming out is

[40:19] no man’s sky and that’s eventually

[40:26] that’s the price of no man’s sky roughly i think like i say let’s say it’s of the higher ones where it’s 60 bucks and it’s like

[40:35] is this expansion better than the entire game that is no man’s sky and the density within no man’s sky like looks

[40:43] like unbelievable like that game yeah looks it’s an insurmountable amount of exploration and you could land on the planet right

[40:53] like that’s yeah and then there’s an animal and there’s animals and there’s and it’s so much variance yeah it’s it’s it’s

[41:00] you can be a space jerk or you just go around we know what gavin would play right yeah yeah old followed habits dying hard eh gavin

[41:11] i want to land on a planet and name a space dinosaur like that’s i’ve always wanted to do that ever since i was a kid it’s like they found my diary and read

[41:20] it and i was like let’s make a game like it’s so amazing uh that’s why it’s like it like developers release it when it’s ready

[41:30] you guys take your time your team can do what they need to do just get this right because my goodness does it ever look fun

[41:38] 25 years later old man gavin’s in his rocker like it’ll it’ll be my uh my daughter goes off to college and it’s like a gift to myself

[41:49] they’ll call inside so the um yeah so a couple games of followed otherwise um

[41:57] here and there but the they had a free sale on ios where there was monument valley was available for free download today i’m kind of

[42:05] curious to check that one out that got a lot of acclaim heard that was quite an interesting one that game’s supposed to be fantastic so

[42:11] yeah right are you using the house of cards it was like the big

[42:17] like spike in their sails because kevin spacey was playing it that was the card so all we need to do for this podcast then somebody mentioned

[42:26] house of cards exactly we’ll get on it um i did get a couple uh black friday sales um

[42:34] we ended up we got a high chair uh but i think that i’m not sure that was black friday sale or just a normal sale because i got it actually yesterday

[42:42] but these sales last like two weeks now so i don’t whatever we save money on a high chair so awesome

[42:48] uh i got a winter coat because i need one because it’s cold out i gotta scrape the car now

[42:54] and uh as far as games go i picked up uh the order uh that ps4 exclusive one um it was on for a very reasonable price it got a lot

[43:04] of flack for being kind of just an interactive movie but i don’t mind that it looks really pretty

[43:10] there’s werewolves and steampunk so all right and it was on for a good price so it’s like i’d pay to go see that movie without even being able to interact with

[43:18] it so if i get to play with it too then that’s awesome i picked up the wolfenstein uh standalone expansion uh the old blood oh

[43:27] blood because uh wolfenstein the new order was so good it was so much fun uh so i obviously picked that up because i had

[43:36] to uh i’m looking forward to playing it because crazy retro speculative science fiction super nazis are so much fun to shoot with a

[43:46] shotgun yeah so far we have planet space dinosaurs super cyber

[43:55] nazis and nuclear fallout crazy island dictatorship yeah i’m a man of many tastes

[44:07] we got some i also like pork wine and uh and and aged cheddar and bud light lime and blood light lime you know

[44:18] there’s a flavor for every mood geez i’ll say the um really out of left field the one thing one thing that had consumed me quite a

[44:28] bit was there was a canadian whiskey that had received quite a bit of a claim

[44:34] so crown royal which is not known to be that’s kind of like a starter whiskey and more predominantly what you add to coke as opposed to anything else

[44:45] yeah kind of rye that you’re like this is a great mixing rye and it’s all right on ice too but you usually want it with some coke

[44:53] yeah you kind of wanted some coke in there and all of a sudden like there’s all these articles where it’s like oh that good

[44:58] world champion like mentions how amazing it is like it’s number one in this whiskey book from this guy it’s and immediately in toronto it flies

[45:07] off the shelf like classic toronto style like this is now a fad this is huge doesn’t exist anymore just gone at the distribution level

[45:16] so one hipster read about it on the blog and off it went so what was great is so from my parents my parents live up in

[45:25] midland which is past barry uh just that’s how you did it yeah it’s like i don’t know for non

[45:32] ontarians go to toronto and go much north and up there they just happen to have a bunch of bottles so my dad got one for

[45:41] himself he got the pick one up for me and i was able to try it and it is whiskey i can confirm it tastes like whiskey

[45:48] wouldn’t have been like just a total shocker if you took a sip you’re like this is rum oh

[45:57] totally wrong isn’t this vodka i don’t know i’m no whiskey expert but uh does this have coke pre-mixed in it i don’t understand watered down it’s

[46:06] watered down but uh i’m not a scotch expert but i’m pretty sure this is ziva so i started the notes that after the

[46:15] little one goes down i’ve now taken to having a glass of like whiskey or scotch which seems wonderfully adult if not

[46:24] dangerously um i don’t say alcoholic but uh currently done see it’s a great

[46:31] well like what is it now like a reward congratulations yeah i’m just assess yourself because the baby’s asleep that’s why alcohol is trying to trevor

[46:37] you’re allowed a night cap as long as it’s not at like 10 a.m well you stayed up all night

[46:47] well there’s one day so against what what’s lousy about

[46:52] ontario’s they have a pretty draconian attitude towards alcohol which is like it’s either let people sell it or ban it don’t like fill a boat most

[47:02] specifically there’s a really cool thing that i sat in the most canadian way wow what exists

[47:13] so a thing that exists is called the um advent calendar of beer they sell it in a couple other provinces i think in places in the states you can

[47:21] get it basically it’s a different beer for every day of christmas instead of chocolate ones and

[47:28] i was on the fences like i’d love to head out and buy like just put i’ll put one together for myself or get recommendations from friends like tell

[47:34] me which beers to put up and i might still do it in some ways but then the thought arose that like i’m gonna have no matter how tired i am to keep up with

[47:42] this no matter how tired i am no matter how bad the night’s gonna be i’m gonna have to go through a beer otherwise i’ll just have this like stack of like 14

[47:50] beers i gotta catch up on at all times yeah that look at video games is one thing but a backlog of alcohol yeah you know what

[47:59] so i was like it sounds like such an amazing idea that i’m just thinking some of the nights i’ve had and it’s like

[48:05] it is not miller time tonight and i don’t know if i could put myself through it especially because these are going to be

[48:11] especially if i ask for friends recommendations these are not going to be easy beers right there’s going to be some in there that i hate like i just

[48:18] don’t want to drink and like like non-sessionable if you want to call it that and the thought that i’m going to force myself to go through like a

[48:26] wonderful first world problem i know but like force myself to go through a beer when i’m not in the mood i don’t know if i can basically i don’t know if i’m in

[48:34] as a new dad i don’t know that i’m in a place where i can survive an advent calendar beer but i want to just just wait a little bit um probably give

[48:44] yourself another year because my wife went out and bought a beer advent calendar but she built it herself right so it’s all tall boys

[48:51] number one tall boys and then different just a 24 different beers which was amazing to test out

[49:00] um which ones you did like that you would never try and then which ones you hate and would never try so i kept notes on each of them in my phone so when i go

[49:08] to the beer store now or lcbo i can pick up uh what i want without having to guess right but yes it’s almost like

[49:17] you’re getting yourself addicted because you have to drink it otherwise you have to drink a week’s worth in a day and that’s no that’s like day 26

[49:28] when there’s no beer you’re like huh yes i’m really thirsty

[49:34] i’m not sleeping yeah oh well that’s what we should do then for the podcast is uh there’s a beer

[49:42] review yeah started right now i’m there i’d be down for at least that where we each choose a beer

[49:50] for each other that we have to try end of the show you’ve been drinking it the whole time yeah you give a quick summation of like

[49:57] it’s like well this is absolute garbage i hate you guys you automatically assume i’m going to pick the bag

[50:05] just seems like spite like just like just be watching the watching my face with glee as i’m sitting like just like

[50:18] i’ll recommend one but jeff and i will be drinking something entirely different it’s like as you know most things with numbers are the classiest so i’m going

[50:26] to go ahead and get you to buy colt 45. that’s 35 times better than everything else rule one you have to you have to finish

[50:36] it before the podcast ends too oh boy geez now we’re now we’re getting dangerous um

[50:45] so let’s bring this to a close uh gavin did you want to toss us the weekly new dad tip for the week sure um there’s

[50:55] actually something my wife discovered um babies dig music um especially like our daughter does

[51:02] especially um something as simple as she loves itsy bitsy spider and she can tell that song apart from the other nursery rhymes i’m

[51:13] not sure why she digs it more but she loves itsy bitsy spider so you know that’s a good one but the best thing is a dance party where we will set up a

[51:24] ipod on like a docking station or whatnot and uh my wife put together a little playlist of all sorts of fun songs and

[51:31] we just put those on and we dance with her in our arms and that tends to calm her down very quickly and at times we even use it to get her down for a nap

[51:39] so um if your baby’s fussy or you’re having trouble getting her down for a nap put on some music and

[51:47] dance with them and the dancing is very similar to like the rocking and the bobbing and uh

[51:55] and that yeah it works for for our daughter um i know every baby’s at their own special rubik’s cube that you have to figure out but uh some have

[52:06] uh some happy co-relations to other babies so uh it’s worth a shot if you’re definitely looking for something to try

[52:15] to get that baby calm try dancing with them this music and that that’s been working really well for us yeah i’ll piggy back on that one a

[52:22] bit from my previous tip where have screens available wherever you are i mean youtube is an incredible source of a bunch of songs and there’s people who

[52:31] have blessedly put together like two hour long compilations of nothing but nursery rhymes or calming sounds so in any particular room that i have

[52:41] especially whether it’s a tv with a smart tv with youtube um ready to go just like tap tap tap and next thing you know it’s two hours

[52:49] straight of nothing but lullabies like it you should just have like a big red button in the center of the room that you just slam your fist on big big

[52:57] panties bang tell you what we’ll produce that and we’ll produce the app for the picture and picture with the baby

[53:05] monitor of the game we are new dad new dads are on a roll yeah i’m i’m pretty sure which one’s gonna sell

[53:14] we’ll see everyone that wraps it up for this week we do this podcast weekly uh if you have any questions thoughts or suggestions on

[53:23] the show please visit us at our website newdadgaming.com you can subscribe to us on itunes or any other podcast feed

[53:32] yeah look for us each week um watch our slow descent in the madness and slow

[53:39] slowly it’s i got a brick on the gas pedal man i’m gone

[53:47] but as always we do appreciate it again that’s new dadgaming.com as always i’m trevor and i have a six month old

[53:53] i’m gavin i have a almost four month old i’m jeff i’m a two and a half and a five year old and perhaps some other ones we’re not

[54:02] sure uh simply not yeah he’s brought he brought home three from the trampoline place by accident

[54:18] my son accidentally drop kicked you so i guess i’ll give you cake that almost did happen so yes that’s a terrible merger of your kids

[54:28] karate classes and trampolines oh yes yeah yeah no trying to do jump kicks off trampolines

[54:35] that’s that’s great for a five-year-old yeah that’s that’s a twisted ankle waiting to happen because that’s how i twisted mine oh is it oh great yeah one

[54:43] of those uh you know those kick over clown things with the weight on the bottom you blew it up yeah um i jumped off my bed and tried to do a drop kick

[54:51] on it and i landed on the toy for this uh uh what was it mask remember mask oh yeah yeah transformers knock off series anyways i landed on a big van toy from

[55:04] it and uh twisted my ankle awesome like a week before going to wonderland so that sucked

[55:12] yeah yeah so uh drop kicks and spring don’t match up don’t do it kids stay in school kids stay in school

[55:23] good we’ll see you next week guys
