[0:10] okay so you’re telling me like if it’s cool you say oh that’s on you don’t say hey that’s cool you say that’s on fleek on

[0:17] fleek yes that’s the thing like f l e i don’t know how to spell it maybe

[0:24] there’s like nobody knows how to spell it that’s elusive yeah it’s a club that no one can get

[0:31] into that’s why it’s so cool we can’t get into it we’re dads honestly but we’re not

[0:38] you’re just edging into the like i don’t know did you hear this from your kid i can’t imagine like you’re um a friend at work has like an

[0:46] eight-year-old so it’s coming it’s two three years out gosh it’s like man there’s way too soon to like not

[0:53] know the terms although like it’s there’s plenty of stuff like already i’ve never i never really got into social media too deeply like i

[1:02] understood like i knew twitter i was on it i know how to do it facebook blah blah blah but there’s and i even own snapchat instagram

[1:09] all of them but with snapchat for instance like i just don’t get it like as far as like i don’t use it i’m like all right like i understand

[1:18] the concept of this right i just don’t have people that i know that use it nobody sends me things that i don’t send but when you hear somebody who’s into it

[1:28] talk about it it’s on fleek like it’s a mess see this is the problem i never thought i’d use urbandictionary.com

[1:39] but i have used it for that i feel like it’s going to be like a dad app where it’s dead oh good idea right it’s just

[1:49] this is now what you get a bunch of cool kids to feed into it somehow and you got to be real careful cause like otherwise they’re just gonna mess with dads

[1:57] it’s gotta be like trending topics right but it explains them it’s still yes as a dad like you like wait a minute i know what that means yeah we’re not doing

[2:04] that kids are speaking a different language so the

[2:13] beverages are the adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep welcome to new dad gaming a show about gaming fatherhood and new fathers trying to

[2:22] figure out their gaming lives i am trevor and i have a nine-month-old and i’m jeff i have a five-year-old and almost three-year-old

[2:30] say that in months oh god can’t do it let’s hold on yes so for

[2:38] listeners you’ll notice a pretty significant jump in my kids age since i last said it i don’t think last time you discovered time

[2:46] travel don’t worry about it i think i said seven or eight last time i don’t know uh we took a bit of a hiatus uh jeff and gavin were able to

[2:55] throw together a great episode in between um but we had to suspend things a little bit uh we discussed how to exactly handle

[3:03] this so my wife unfortunately was diagnosed with a very severe case of postpartum depression

[3:11] and i had to for time uh maybe drop everything and assist with a home i’m very happy to report the things in

[3:18] the house have gotten much more stable and we’ve really worked through it so that that has been an absolute blessing and everyone around us has been

[3:26] fantastic the system has been great for it but unfortunately it just did not leave enough time to be able to do this type of podcasting it was something you

[3:34] know and unfortunately it was quite dark so much of it so the thought that you know i’d be going through the fam my family would be going through

[3:41] such dark stuff during the day and then at night i get on here and i’m gumming it up about super mario or something it didn’t quite feel right it’d be more

[3:51] facade than anything i think it’d leak through um but you know the new dad’s here

[3:55] discussed it uh i think it’s really important i would really like to discuss my story and my family story and especially from a dad’s perspective of

[4:03] seeing your partner and men can be afflicted by it but i think it’s about 10 of men as opposed to women some of the stats we saw it’s either 1

[4:12] in 5 or 1 in 10 women will go through some sort of postpartum depression so that means a lot of partners will have to go through it so we would like

[4:20] to address this i would i would like to tell the story and kind of tell how we came about it so that you anyone can

[4:27] find some solace find some knowledge any things that we did that worked well you can go through too however it wasn’t necessary

[4:35] on par with this show so very shortly from our channel we will you’ll see a special episode come out

[4:43] about it and we’ll address it in full um but all you know all suffice to say um every but the family’s doing great everything has gone on and you know

[4:52] thanks to everybody around us and thanks for patience and you know still a new dad and still trying to game and excited to get back to

[5:01] back on the horse what did what did you i did not get a chance to listen to what you and gavin talked about and there’s some part of me that imagined it was

[5:07] either there’s i had a couple worries and one is it is the best episode ever and accordingly like we

[5:16] determined what the problem is namely myself it’s just like you didn’t watch it you mean you didn’t

[5:22] watch it i did not watch it i bought fallout no i didn’t discuss your fallout tendencies or is the worst or you guys got like in a

[5:31] fight it was just just like the scent in the madness black spring

[5:36] they had no thanks for taking the mantle and here we are and again there’s only two of us this is

[5:42] not necessarily a trend but gavin is knee-deep in building games which is still amazing he actually he this would be this is another game because he had

[5:50] one release did he not yeah um was it away with you i think it was called i’m not sure i’m sorry gavin um but yeah he just

[5:59] released one um and now he’s working on i think his own bag like retro games yeah that’s kind of cool

[6:07] yeah i saw some of if you follow gavin on twitter which we’ll put up that on the website we’ll also put some links to the game yeah i think it’s away with you

[6:14] it is about a it’s great kind of retro slightly retrographic it’s a bit of a click

[6:21] adventure i believe and it’s about a interaction between a space astronaut and a ai component i haven’t had a chance to play it yet but i the reason i

[6:32] knew about it is because i saw a bunch of coverage about it yeah like on gaming websites i go to all the time and it’s just like wait dude it’s a new dad and

[6:40] he’s like oh holding out on this hey what is this all these skills what are we doing with our lives it reminds

[6:47] you yeah it reminds me of the those old lucas arts uh like pixel art games where you click and drag around like full throttle and

[6:55] stuff like that it’s kind of cool yeah yeah very cool man so it’s exciting to see but we’re hoping to get gavin back on he is just

[7:03] absolutely cranked with this stuff but it’s exciting obviously to see um man an actual new dad it’s enough just over us trying to play

[7:11] it but what’s it like as a dad to try to build a game i know right yeah

[7:19] yeah so jeff what have you been playing recently um well sorry i think i believe the format actually

[7:26] goes how is fatherhood and how is gaming uh fatherhood is okay we’re coming up on my son’s third birthday so we’re busy

[7:35] planning that it has been birthday bonanza at school so my kid that’s five uh turning six uh he’s an sk so senior

[7:45] kindergarten and he his whole class just

[7:50] birthday after birthday after birthday through security backing up one second senior kindergarten senior kindergarten did you

[7:57] i remember there’s so i went to junior kindergarten which is glorified babysitting i didn’t as a kid okay and then there’s kindergarten right that’s

[8:06] sk okay junior senior right that makes sense does that make them feel better about

[8:14] themselves because now you’re seen no because it’s like a split class like so you’re not even in like entirely with your own age group you’re just

[8:23] you’re shifted up and there’s other kids that are poor see for us it was like junior kindergarten was held in the

[8:31] basement of a church like it really was like glorified babysitting and then right kindergarten was just in a formal school

[8:40] so you’re saying yeah in this case they put it all together yeah so it’s all together and like as i said i

[8:46] never went to jk but my brother did who’s three years younger so he got suckered into jk i just went to preschool which again was at off-site

[8:55] probably in a home and then went to school so anyway once you do get in school you meet a lot of kids

[9:02] and uh he’s made friends with basically everyone which is great socially financially different story just means

[9:13] a lot of weekends and a lot of birthdays just you just have to buy paw patrol dolls like on mass oh man well the trend is like hit and miss it’s hot and cold

[9:23] every like one kid doesn’t like paw patrol he likes transformers and pokemon’s out now pokemon’s big again um

[9:31] so it’s uh anyway through all that stuff it’s been a lot of birthday months and he’s not quite old enough to just kind of drop off at those places and run

[9:42] so you kind of have to stay or my wife will stay with him at a play place or something where the kids just run around and go bananas

[9:51] but when he gets a little bit older and you can kind of drop them and run you’ll be the best thing

[9:55] just throw them over the fence and like take off yeah go home and even sleep in the car i don’t know have a nap somewhere

[10:01] be great living the dream yeah that’s like man what a burden because now

[10:07] god like to have to go to a kid’s birthday like a three-year-old’s birthday party well and you have to make friends

[10:13] so it’s like you got to be like no right no i have to be sociable like that’s hard enough for me to do it like if you have a birthday party that’s

[10:21] enough of a burden as it is no it’s like this kid’s birthday party right because it feels like at least like so

[10:28] you have a birthday party and you know we’re friends so we have been for a long time chances are i would at least be able to socially understand

[10:37] the people that you would invite to your birthday party yeah but the kids man that’s a wild west like you have no idea what their parents are like

[10:43] exactly and it’s really you’re just you know pouring yourself a glass of you know apple juice and standing out trying to like

[10:50] cheers people and be like so how’s that weather god there’s wow you know and it and you have to because you’re there for what

[10:59] like three well two three hours so it can be very awkward or you can you know

[11:06] swallow it and and try and make some friends and but it’s kind of like um you’re stepping into high school or something

[11:14] and you have to kind of figure out people’s interests and whether or not you’re going to like them or not maybe you like the kid but you don’t like the

[11:20] parents see that all comes into play vice versa like the parents are super cool but their kid’s a dick exactly i don’t want this kid around my house

[11:29] yeah so it’s uh it’s been interesting so we’ll get into that not so soon but soon enough um gaming wise i

[11:40] bought battlefront wait star wars battlefront star wars battlefront i don’t know i got in how about that

[11:48] so wait which system uh ps4 so they had i know but i think you can

[11:55] play can you play pc maybe not i don’t think so probably not um but it was on a flash sale so i bought it and another buddy had it

[12:04] so it is a ton of fun i can see where it’s kind of lacking in content

[12:11] but holy graphics it’s unbelievable and as a as a designer the menu system

[12:19] right oh yeah yeah yeah like that it’s impact i’ve never seen a more beautifully designed menu system with stark whites

[12:28] the randomized item in the background that just like shifts around but the color and the

[12:34] focusing it’s it’s amazing it’s actually really well done right and i’m kind of you know sad that they didn’t include

[12:42] so much other content like they just kind of left it like it’s called dlc based which you know whatever but

[12:48] great great game uh easy to pick up and play so i’ve been doing that with witcher still on witcher and trying to go through that i don’t

[12:58] know how many hours i put it well there okay you’re an rpg guy right yeah okay number one

[13:06] thing that kind of pisses me off is that it doesn’t have an in-game counter it’s just like how much time you spent in it

[13:15] um but i googled it and apparently it does but it counts the rest time the ps4 when it sleeps

[13:22] so uh according to it i’ve been playing it for 24 days which is not possible

[13:30] you’re breaking records just like yeah i have kids i am not playing it for 24 days so and i just can’t i hate that i’m like i

[13:40] knew my final fantasy 7 time like off by heart and i like to see the amount of like effort i put into a game so

[13:49] but anyway game’s great battlefront’s great to get into but i think i’ve kind of stuck to those two games in terms a lot of other stuff happening in the

[13:56] gaming community but we can get to that uh later have you kept up with rocket league because i know that they released a

[14:02] bunch of dlc they i don’t know if they actually released the hockey mode they did they have a march madness one the hoops the basketball one yeah

[14:11] like are you playing at all i haven’t picked up that that kind of void was filled with the uh battlefront

[14:19] so i haven’t got back into it but they’re gonna do like custom arenas and stuff and uh

[14:25] seems like it would i don’t know i just haven’t gone back to it but uh no i’d still play it i still kept on the hard drive

[14:34] we’ll see so i was like i found it the battlefront thing is interesting actually we can dive in that for a second because i’ve

[14:41] been playing that a bunch too yeah except i’m on pc and for a long time i was using a controller

[14:47] to do so and you know i had i told i mentioned previous on the show like i had terrible connection issues where

[14:56] for like first couple weeks i just couldn’t connect to a game it’s like trying to find a lobby that’s full okay 50 full

[15:03] okay 10 full and then next thing you know my name is on two empty lists and it’s like all right any minute now someone’s going to show up and play with

[15:10] you and they didn’t so just so i couldn’t play it that seems to have corrected i think

[15:17] a little bit see the problem is is i’m playing with a bunch of people where they’re level 50 to 60 like oh yeah i’m like eight

[15:26] so they’re strolling up in just like one shot and then they’re doing these like crazy ass jump moves where like as a character like i’m watching

[15:33] them just i’m not even shooting at them just watching them go around like what are you doing what is this witchcraft that you

[15:41] and then i’m getting through so i was doing horrifically i don’t psa i don’t expect to be good at this

[15:49] right like i’m not good at these games that’s not why i play them i’m not trying to be the top of the list i don’t that’s not where i get my enjoyment it’s

[15:55] just every now and then you connect you kill a couple guys you get killed more often than not fine but it’s still fun yeah but i was going through these

[16:02] matches and it was like i had one where i died 24 times and i didn’t kill a single guy not one

[16:10] person it was and like some of the now some of the guys on there were getting like

[16:17] 60 kills like four deaths right is it i imagine so what it was hurtful painful was that it was like 50 level 50 level 40 10 10 10 and then me

[16:29] like level two and you’re just cannon fodder like worse than cannon fodder and

[16:36] so once a couple things happen so i read that you know you are on pc and anybody with a mouse and keyboard has a terrible advantage against you

[16:47] as opposed to a controller like it’s just the nature of the game especially when you’re playing against other pc guys so switch that actually worked like

[16:55] i i’ve gone through a couple games now and i actually had a more kills and deaths

[17:02] massively so not a lot that still counts um but even still like the the other thing that i saw is

[17:12] if you playing it on a console in many ways is a whole different kind of a different experience because it’s a

[17:20] different type of player it’s almost it’s almost like somebody who would play has played the battlefront game on pc for years would

[17:27] come into this and feel at home and just wreck shop as opposed to somebody with you know a 14 year old with a ps4 picks it up has

[17:35] a controller and just having a great time so you’re able to kind of just it feels as though a community that would be more in line

[17:42] with the way i play and even with my skill set per se yeah would be on console versus pc yeah i could see that um well for one

[17:52] it’s all level playing field with the controller right so nobody can have the mouse um but i think do think the player pool

[18:00] is also way larger on console versus pc and maybe that is just uh better at matchmaking people what i don’t like though is if you do get your

[18:11] butt kicked uh from the other team like they’re just way too good the next game will start and it will

[18:17] just have the same teams so it doesn’t shuffle anybody it just kind of continues and you’re like well now you gotta stop get out and you kind

[18:25] of feel like well no i’m gonna try and and redeem myself and then you just end up you know spending another 20 minutes getting killed

[18:33] but that gives me that gives me a bit of hope though because like i i also get that same experience like

[18:39] you’ll get into some games and again i’ve never win i’ve never won never been on top list i don’t expect to and i’ve even been at the bottom of the

[18:46] list but felt like i had a good game like i enjoyed it yeah cause you you killed some guys or at least like you i i’ve honestly gone through a couple

[18:57] games where i didn’t kill anybody but i felt great still fine about it yeah because you know i maybe was able to pick up something or like i helped

[19:05] with somebody it’s just a massive difference as opposed to spawn walk walk dead like spawn walk walk dead and just you have

[19:12] no chance as opposed to spawn jump jump jump jump jump jump jump dead big difference yeah like i’ve had my

[19:22] good games where i’ve been at the top of the list and like killed everybody but you know am i facing people that are you know level two characters like i

[19:31] don’t know like the only way i can tell is if they have a different character skin right or if they have usually like the black stormtroopers like level 50 or

[19:39] whatever so if i kill those i feel really good about myself even if there’s just one kill and it’s just that dude

[19:46] he knows that he got wasted by you know level two level three guy so no it’s still fun and it’s you know you’re in the star wars universe and one one whole

[19:55] session i will admit i just stared at the background settings like you know the super star destroyers fighting and stuff oh it’s like i am not helping my

[20:04] team right now but it’s so beautiful it is it is really

[20:10] borderline unbelievable what they’ve done like the visuals like it’s just so it’s never played a game that i’ve been

[20:16] this impressed with i’ve played some great looking games but i don’t think i’ve ever played something that’s been so impressive

[20:23] like and this isn’t just about turning up the settings like i all things considered i have a mid-tier pc

[20:29] so but even with this like you’re just looking at how they’ve put this together and it’s just like and just a feeling like you feel like having watched star

[20:36] wars movies it’s like man they just they got it like these people yeah i think love the movies they just seem to have it yeah they captured the

[20:44] feeling the aesthetic right like everything is part of that universe so it’s it’s fun i think so i think that i think

[20:51] one of the tricks is like i’ve had a number of matches where it’s just lousy and i think i’ve been a masochist where you know 20 deaths zero kills and then i

[20:59] just i play the same group and it’s just it’s not going to get better no so when that happens i think i have to just leave and find another group

[21:07] because like it’s an exercise in futility and well i’ve had my kid play for me too

[21:14] like my five-year-old he just wanted to play with the lasers because he knows about star wars of course and uh i’m like oh that’s fun you know and i’m kind

[21:22] of biting my teeth just like oh you’re hurting my kill death ratio you’re embarrassing me kid come on yeah why are you staring up and running in

[21:33] circles oh no that’s all right yeah so the um yeah so my size obviously there’s been

[21:41] the battlefield um again i just decided on a whim to try it again and to see if they solve the server issues because

[21:49] a lot of the online forums said oh you just have to go into your router and change settings and it was like no no like i’m not that that’s

[21:57] that’s that’s your problem you will solve this or i’m not playing the game yeah i got that forget i don’t have that time um so that that’d been great

[22:06] i i got into i’ve been playing a bunch of elite dangerous that just you know love just such a great feeling space sim i’ve gotten to a

[22:14] place now where i felt like i’m kind of comfortable with the progress and i don’t know that i care to dive in for a little bit

[22:20] for a little while um did you get the expansion did they release that yet yeah i ended up getting it because yeah it’s something about being able to

[22:29] actually just go on to the planet right it’s funny it’s funny because it’s i think in many ways they don’t do a great job of explaining how to enjoy

[22:37] this game which is a you know it’s a weird segment i don’t know how you would necessarily approach it but people are

[22:43] it’s like oh where’s the stuff like i just have to grind and i have to get the bigger ship and like what am i gonna go i have i had a friend i worked with and

[22:50] he was playing it he’s like jeez i’m just grinding because i want the better ship and you know it’s not that much fun i

[22:56] don’t know what to do and i had to stop them and i asked them like when you get the bigger ship like what are you going to do

[23:03] like what in-game act there’s no special missions for the big ship it’s just the bigger ship right like you’re going to do the

[23:10] same stuff so like you need to stop and just enjoy the sim like the you’re in space like you can land on planets you can

[23:18] from space as you’re flying past a planet you can see a crater and you can land and you can just zip a boat and like

[23:26] jump all through that crater that you saw from space yeah and then you hop over and you like buy up a new cheaper ship and you like zip around like some

[23:34] of the funnest stuff that i heard is that you buy the cheapest ship in the game and you go on to the planets and you

[23:39] just zip around the canyons so because there’s a bunch of huge craigs and think like things bigger than the grand canyon right so you take your

[23:47] little um you know cost nothing ship and you just like zip around full speed in the cane and trying not to ram into walls

[23:54] and you you know you’re just again like it’s about enjoying the sim right and that’s and that’s what i’ve actually done the um they had a

[24:00] community goal like i’ve never been one i kind of missed the arc on massive multiplayer online mmos but they did have they do have these

[24:11] community goals where the entire universe of games can just participate so it’s you and every player you’re

[24:19] trying to it’s either kill the pirates in the system or transfer this cargo to this place or blah blah

[24:26] blah whatever it wants to be right yeah and yeah participate in that is just an absolute ton of players like it really changed the game because all of a sudden

[24:34] there’s like 100 players in the same instance of you and there’s a couple like pirates trying to take you down you’re zipping about

[24:41] so that um that was great but with that one and with even battlefront i i always get the nagging feeling that like

[24:49] it’s not there’s no purpose to it like there’s no you’re not going to finish this game like it’s not

[24:55] no no you’re not there’s no ends you’re just kind of just spending hours but they’re enjoyable

[25:00] hours so it goes back and forth but so battlefront been playing elite dangerous haven’t had an absolute blast

[25:08] with it i tried to play grim fandango oh yeah yeah did you did you play it um i played like a bit of the remastered

[25:18] version but as a kid i played the the origi the original version i guess it’s hard like you get into puzzles where you’re like

[25:28] i i i don’t know what to do and it’s not hand holding you at all right like you just need to figure out what the puzzle is by clicking around

[25:37] so i like i’ve always revered this game despite never playing it like i i’d read everything around it uh

[25:45] for the studio i had you know seen people talk about it so i’d always had this like

[25:51] big respect for it without ever never even playing it yeah and you know it came up on sale and to finally decide to do it and i’m playing

[25:58] it now and it’s just you let down is that what you’re saying oh it’s it’s incredible but i just don’t have time for this nonsense no no it’s

[26:06] because it’s you need to go into the third floor and grab the blue balloon and then go down to the first floor and mix it with this side and then take that

[26:16] balloon and throw it at the pigeon and it’s it’s one of those things i was going to mention that puzzle

[26:23] because it’s not based on logic right like it’s just um okay i yeah it’s just it’s taking stuff and you throw it against other stuff yeah and i

[26:32] know i can figure it out like i have it in me to beat this game i just don’t have like i have a lot of stuff to do with my life

[26:39] like i just there’s there’s not a lot of reward to you know if it’s a puzzle where like there’s a certain a tactile feel to it like it’s a skill

[26:46] and you’re able to master it great this is just coding decoding the nonsense yeah enough to get through something

[26:55] so i’m on the fence about what to do with it like i think i still i want to experience it in the sense of like going through it and the dialogue is so

[27:04] snappy and the voice acting is incredible the style is beautiful i love the art style oh it’s like man day of the dead stuff

[27:10] like that’s so on point that’s so cool so i think what i’m gonna do is just get like the best like most straightforward guide i can find and just do it piece by

[27:21] piece so that i can experience it but i just can’t there’s no harm in that either right like you know speaking from the dad

[27:28] perspective i think that is one game where you you look at the clock a lot like you’d be like i could be doing so many other things and you’re already

[27:36] kind of fried right so to figure out the game’s logic and go through all the puzzles and be more frustrated with it than experiencing it

[27:46] i think having like the game fact walkthrough or whatever while you’re doing it is like that’s a good solution versus just dropping it

[27:54] all together and yeah and be done with it because it is a good experience from what i remember as a

[28:00] kid i don’t know what it’s going to be like now but you might just get you know the end of the game and the credits roll and that’s

[28:05] it i can’t remember yeah yeah because just as a as a dad it just doesn’t compute it just doesn’t work because

[28:13] it it it the parallel you would think that would apply would be like cheating right where it’s

[28:20] infinite lives or you can’t be killed or you skip to a level and that’s you know that’s not in the nature of the game but this one is just

[28:28] you have to just keep banging your head against the wall until the illogical puzzle fits together

[28:35] and it’s like man i just don’t i’m not gonna get a lot of enjoyment from wasting that time so

[28:41] i think my plan i don’t know if i’ll maybe try it next week but i’m going to just burn through an f faq and

[28:48] beat enjoy and experience it without having to actually play it i think in many ways like that’s much like the

[28:56] well this is this is a tough comparison but like when you talked about final fantasy vii and it was like what the no random

[29:03] battle mode yeah yeah see now as a guy who’s played it like i’ve beaten it legitimately back on

[29:10] playstation right and i could see myself wanting to just get into the world again like go to the places

[29:18] like enjoy the story see the artwork and appreciate that again like that feels like it’d be enjoyable yeah grinding like having him just run in circles

[29:29] until he’s level 30. like i just man i just don’t have that kind of time as a dad but

[29:35] but for somebody who’s never played it before yeah see that’s total cheat because then you’re

[29:40] not experiencing it right but if yeah if you don’t want to go back into the world turn off no encounters but then you have to activate the other cheat which is the

[29:47] hit points because you won’t have enough experience oh yeah to fight the bosses so you have to activate both i don’t even know why

[29:54] they separate both out yeah why would you buy you might as well where’s that gonna go like turn them both on um

[30:01] so yeah i could totally see that and i’ve been playing the retro version i call it retro version whatever like the remastered version

[30:09] um on ps4 uh because i bought it during that sale again stupid but um what is that like

[30:17] the sixth time you probably i don’t know i’m almost up to seven of seven that should be great but save that for the remaster all right

[30:25] exactly um but with that one it’s just uh it’s good to get back into but i can totally see where like i consulted a guide as a kid just to see

[30:36] you know where do you find a yuffie and where do you go for the condor egg and how do you be golden saucer and

[30:43] again it’s kind of like that grim fandango kind of area where you’re like i just want to get into it see the story again

[30:51] uh see sephiroth again and beat the game without worrying about it if you had to like gun to your head you could figure out how to get a golden chocobo you

[31:00] could yeah yeah again it’s better you just read it online but this is like from the days of when these games were built where you could

[31:08] lock yourself in a room and game for six to eight hours sometimes more if you wanted to now it’s just like i get free time at like nine ten o’clock

[31:17] at night and i have to turn things off at you know midnight one o’clock so i’m not gonna man one o’clock you’re

[31:25] pushing the man that’s like i well because you’re so wired after that you’re like i’m tired but when you get to that state

[31:33] of overtire and you’re like i don’t want to go to bed i’m i’m still young again yeah so i could imagine like if you were

[31:41] a parent so when we were kids and if our parents were into games much like we were like that would have been a really hard

[31:48] time to be a parent i think and be a lover of games because that that was a very hard difficult area

[31:56] a time of video games like they were really relentless like it was really the time sink like you had to put it in it feels like now like so with the stuff

[32:04] we just talked about with final fantasy quote unquote cheats the um quick matches with um

[32:12] rocket league and battlefront the grim fender like the fact that able to run through the entire thing probably with a speed mechanism too like it’s

[32:20] really catering to which i don’t know if it’s necessarily on per like where the target like where the industry is so catered to

[32:27] dads but ultimately if anything it’s like we can think like the youths short attention span that

[32:36] they don’t do it because they you know they can’t focus on anything we don’t do it because we don’t have goddamn time to spend

[32:42] so this is a perfect cross so it’s a in many ways it’s becoming a great time to be a dad for that reason it is and but it circles back to your

[32:50] point with um what’s the space game that you’re talking about uh elite dangerous ellie dangerous with some people just not like

[32:57] what do i do like why do i care to be in this world where it’s exploration and maybe you know that’s the wrong wrong genre for that person

[33:05] but i think everybody is so like twitch oriented like everybody needs their info now like the world’s fast moving things are going on if you’re not on trend one

[33:13] day you’re you know missing out the conversation the next day so maybe it’s

[33:19] you know these cheat codes are making it easy on people and even like some games that um i think some games that come out now

[33:26] that don’t hold your hand are actually uh more talked about saying hey look there’s this classic game that doesn’t have these cheat codes or an easy way

[33:35] out like i was looking into divinity original sin which is like a diablo-esque thing and it doesn’t explain any of you know where to go or

[33:44] the arrow on the map like you have to read and pay attention and and go towards that area where

[33:50] you know those were all the old games like there was no internet in our time like we had to figure things out or go buy

[33:57] the brady games guide for 29.99 and waste your allowance on that i think

[34:04] things like this right that was terrible i hated those things i remember getting them but i never opened them because i wanted like pristine like image on the

[34:12] front and then with the game he likes all the answers in the world to the my terrible question but i don’t want to bend it

[34:20] yeah uh daddy um yeah i know that is yeah it’s funny it’s almost time to be

[34:26] reveled in like the non hand holding uh super meat boy uh button i was gonna say bonnie of isaac but not necessarily um i remember like there was something

[34:35] on mobile that came out called desert golf i remember if you’re saying it’s so you’re talking like atari graphics and

[34:43] it would just be somewhat random generated sand world and you would uh flick it like based on how much you

[34:50] pulled back your finger like it flicked the the golf ball but the score was permanent

[34:56] oh oh so how much so this this was just how much over par are you right forever and it’s just like just constant new levels

[35:04] constantly you could not unless you deleted the game and your account you could not reset it so this

[35:10] there’s this purpose this and it’s a hard game because like you had to really get the physics right so it was relentless and just like the

[35:18] there’s a stigma because it’s on you for life that stink of a high score is going to follow you forever and that just

[35:27] like sensed people yeah well that’s an another interest it’s kind of i remember getting uh like demon souls

[35:36] and it was um it was like an online uh constant universe and like that’s stuck with you and you couldn’t pause and stuff like

[35:43] that where that was praise for being you know here’s your here’s another game that’s not going to

[35:51] go easy on you right and things kind of continue with you um that stuff’s just not for me i don’t like that i like to be able to

[36:00] restart and reboot and save often and i commend the other people to do it but again i don’t i don’t have the time now maybe have two minds to it because where

[36:11] if um like if you’re constantly building your player and you know you’re at 11 and you

[36:17] want to go 12 and 12 until like 13 you’re just constantly putting in that time as opposed to the quick shot of so something like rust

[36:26] something like um what’s the zombie one something 24 ck h1n1 oh yeah yeah well that’s h1n1 it’s

[36:37] a flu uh i don’t know something like that i remember sony buying it or something yeah z1 h1z sum to that effect

[36:48] yeah and you so you it’s impeccably hard to live and then you possibly get like if you finally get a gun and then you’re dead and you’re dead forever and you

[36:55] have to start from scratch like a half wonder about like is that like each time it being a venue as a

[37:03] like that’s just your story arc as a dad and it’s not necessarily i need to spend 80 hours to play this game it’s like just how long can i go

[37:11] before i have to start from scratch yeah i wonder if that would like fit i’ve never played one of those games i’ve never been particularly interested in it

[37:18] but in this conversation it almost makes me wonder is that a good dad game as far as just like it’s you

[37:25] just pushing this one guy far and there’s no you know and it’s not necessarily

[37:33] just wasted hours like hearthstone or battlefront or elite where it’s just time thrown into a void game into your account it’s

[37:42] it’s for this guy to move forward until he’s dead and then it’s either start from scratch or however we want to go about it yeah it

[37:50] would be a curious experiment almost between you me and gavin one of us should try to try one of the permadeath ones

[37:57] come back and report i could see something like that where it’s kind of like you said like a story arc to this character right versus

[38:05] building up uh like say that’s why i never liked destiny i know gavin i think gavin likes it but um yeah gavin’s in the dust he is

[38:13] he is gavin has time for destiny do not like destiny the reason i didn’t like destiny is that it felt very old-school to me and that

[38:21] you grind grind grind like elite dangerous with the guy in one of the bigger ships you grind to get the bigger gun to get

[38:28] the better armor but you’re doing like the same things over and over and over and if a game like that had permadeath where you’re grinding to get this big

[38:36] thing and all some somebody bigger than you comes along and eats you or kills you or whatever and then that’s it i that’s just so much time wasted in

[38:48] my life but if it was more like a survival people are watching the video because like the look on your face as

[38:56] you say look at my life there are people that love destiny and uh great awesome i know it wasn’t for me um i think i downloaded the alpha or the demo

[39:07] um got into the world and i was like this this is it okay well it’s not my bag but well off i go i’ll hop out and you know

[39:16] those people that want to play it great awesome but uh i don’t know i don’t know yeah it’s true i said i’d

[39:23] be we should find a dad that’s sunk a lot of time into a perma-death rust or um

[39:31] man h1z1 maybe something like that right i can’t that one feels like that feels like about it we’ll say that let’s go let’s roll with it

[39:40] that feels like a video about it so yeah i’d be curious to see it the so

[39:47] a baby story i wanted to talk about is yeah like

[39:54] one of the funny so we’ve gotten adrian uh my son into daycare which has been that’s been excellent like just be able to uh put him off and

[40:04] especially with everything we are going through being able to um have that kind of assistance with him

[40:10] while we’re trying to sort through and find the help that we needed yeah but one of the one of the happiest

[40:16] and guiltiest feelings i have is in the morning sometimes when he doesn’t nap because what would happen

[40:25] is that he’ll wake up really early he wakes up about five in the morning oh yeah he stays awake for an hour or two and then naps for

[40:32] roughly an hour and then we take him to daycare now previously he would um you know when he’s on daycare he would nap and that’s kind of

[40:40] time like you kind of make breakfast you get things ready for the day you’re starting to move and if he doesn’t nap right it’s

[40:48] devastating is overstating it but it’s it hurts because it’s just oh that’s wrong baby i got stuff to do man i got a

[40:53] shower and you’re just up and you’re not sleeping and i know you need sleep and sadly like it also means you’re

[41:01] gonna be grumpy until your afternoon nap so it directly impacts me that you’re not napping

[41:08] and now because there’s daycare some days you’ll be like haha dad i’m not napping and i’m like i don’t care

[41:14] you’re going to daycare then just here you go yeah it’s like literally like a repercussion for his action

[41:23] for a baby that usually there is no repercussions like they just do what they want to because they’re babies but now it’s like

[41:30] if you don’t sleep it doesn’t matter it just means i take you to daycare earlier and one way the other you’re gone and i do it and i feel so goddamn guilty

[41:41] it’s like that is the worst thought because it’s literally like i don’t care baby i’ll get rid of you sooner got my own stuff to do

[41:50] yeah like how how miserable of thought it’s so relieving what it’s done is it’s taken off of that it’s taken the stress away

[41:59] from whether or not he naps in the morning right because that was like you know it’s that’s tense it’s like are you going to give us

[42:07] the necessary breaks so we can set up our day like normal humans no well nuts of course now it’s like doesn’t matter

[42:17] dick you either have a nice nap or you go to daycare faster it doesn’t matter to me yeah

[42:22] choose your poison baby whatever however you want to play this well see like yeah i totally understand that but you know your health is

[42:29] obviously going to be better for him like if you’re being stressed out him not sleeping it’s great to okay here you go daycare lady

[42:38] or male whatever um enjoy your worker we’ve done that to um like when they get

[42:45] a little bit older and they’re you know picking up all sorts of germs and whatever yeah you’re kind of snotty today but

[42:52] here’s some children’s advil and there you go this medication will get you through i know this gives you six hours of

[43:01] relief yep that’s just long enough before i have to pick you up again it is it’s kind of like um

[43:07] it’s it’s kind of like a betting system though like i’ll be at work and the daycare obviously has my phone as an emergency like me and my wife but uh

[43:15] when you when you do make those moves where you’re like you not drug them but but you know drug them yeah like you know not whatever you drug

[43:27] them and you drop them off and you just kind of you look at your phone all day you’re like huh i haven’t called well it’s good

[43:34] all right oh four o’clock i gotta go we made it what’s happening on to tomorrow one more day yeah

[43:45] it’s a good relief you can say that it’s on video it’s out there now how is it no it’s great it is unbelie it’s a phenomenal relief um

[43:53] it makes you appreciate them too like just because the like that feeling is showing up at the daycare and they see you and they like lose their little

[43:59] minds and it’s like this is the most exciting thing every year back like that’s a oh that’s such a great feeling it’s like you have a dog right

[44:06] it’s like that unconditional love right like oh my god whereas before it was like yeah okay you feed me i’m happy to see you i guess but

[44:14] drag me around whatever man yeah you gotta do it that’s a good sight i absolutely love it i think on that um on shirking kid responsibilities and

[44:26] drugging them i think that’s a great time to wrap up new dad gaming yeah you can call the police did he yeah so super yeah this really is uh i don’t

[44:37] think can they admit this in court so that man it’s all that aside you can just imagine if you were able to

[44:46] if our parents had this much access to easy recording of their lives like the type of stuff you would find out like what they did

[44:54] i i think i prefer not to know like no i wouldn’t like they barely had car seats back then i don’t know so i drove my kid in the back of the station wagon today

[45:02] and we got in an accident like i don’t know like yeah it’s like oh your crib looks a little bit hard let me just pour some

[45:07] asbestos in there and just soften that up for you yeah he’s being bad putting him up in the attic it’s not finished he’s just up

[45:14] there rolling around the insulation he’s not gonna fall through he doesn’t weigh that much left him at home and got a pizza i don’t
