Episode 20 | New Dad Gaming

[0:08] the adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep and it is time for new dad gaming show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers trying to figure out their

[0:17] gaming lives my name is trevor and i have a 10 month old and i’m jeff i got a five-year-old and uh almost three-year-old

[0:26] damn hey a week of updates after our last week’s episode and i guess in many ways we should start

[0:34] with a summation of what transpired last week but before we get into that we’ll do a quick update

[0:41] just generally jeff how was your week in fatherhood and gaming uh fatherhood

[0:48] uh it was okay don’t talk about the one training thing yeah no i won’t touch on that i want to say that for the update no

[0:56] but otherwise uh we’re into um a couple we we took monkey nastics which is a gymnastics course for uh

[1:05] my youngest what he just thought of that name well i know gymnastics because he can’t even pronounce it right he goes

[1:13] like it’s just say a course that the kid that you’re targeting can say i get to do it i get it it’s just like that man that feels like it’s trying a little bit

[1:22] it’s probably a branded thing so you can’t copy it don’t don’t even try i assure you i have no interest in copying that

[1:29] yeah now we have that and uh swimming lessons took over for a bit and we got a couple birthday parties coming up so just preparing for that

[1:38] but i won’t touch on the other items at hand we’ll save that for later but otherwise it was good gaming wise um

[1:47] i dove into a couple other demos and games that um one was final fantasy xv

[1:57] but i don’t know if you want to talk about that now but so let down but anyway i’ll go into that detail a

[2:06] little bit but um good good time gaming got some time alone um and the kids were off to bed pretty early so

[2:13] uh good in fatherhood and gaming but how about you yeah okay so

[2:20] we’re terrible at these shows because my gaming update would so perfectly fit into the update from last week

[2:29] of course it would so i’ll get to that shortly i played a lot but as a summary or as a preview i

[2:36] played a lot of street fighter 5. and i’m terrible at it i’m really bad at that game so bad at that game

[2:44] um yeah i’m playing otherwise like a like a little bit of two dots on the phone and experiment with a few other things and

[2:51] something i think i was spending a bit of time on the on my phone trying to find something with a good amount of depth but not

[2:59] but a decent amount of approachability where you know it could be something that’s casually ongoing and that would keep my

[3:07] interest and i was thinking of something like and i don’t i don’t know that fits into casual but some of the effect of don’t starve

[3:13] or splunky or sunless sea oh yeah which are all kind of generally

[3:19] i think they’re all procedurally generated i’m not so sure about uh sunless sea let’s see i don’t think so but yeah the other ones and just that

[3:25] one where it’s just kind of it’s you versus like the environment and you keep on going and you keep on getting to go i think there’s one down well seems to

[3:32] kind of fit that bill but it’s a bit more arcady than i was looking for um search continues all the time i don’t think i’ve quite found it um

[3:42] go ahead i downloaded uh i didn’t mention um the hitman sniper thing because it was on sale for like 99 cents

[3:50] man it’s worth 99 cents like it’s fun but is it it’s like hey man it’s not hitman hitman go is the one

[3:56] where he looks like a chess piece right yeah yeah no this is like you’re just sniping so there’s like this one it’s one level but it’s got multiple things

[4:04] going on and you have to do certain like uh like missions so you have to snipe one guy without the guard knowing and hide

[4:12] you don’t hide the bodies but you have to like snipe them into the pool so it’s not like or like turn out the lights by shooting

[4:20] the power and stuff so you have to shoot the you have to shoot the bar open sign so he gets thirsty and

[4:26] then he walks

[4:31] um no but it’s worth 99 cents i held my interest for about three days then i had to delete it i had no room but anyway that might be worth it

[4:40] for 99 that’s not bad yeah it’s a coffee there’s actually there’s a humble um this is one of those humble bundles uh specifically for mobile

[4:49] and one of it actually included the lara croft go so like the chess piece version of someone that alone looked pretty interesting but i think there’s like

[4:56] this list of other like i think there’s like 10 titles that ultimately comes in for like about six bucks nice it’s pretty and given that recent

[5:03] search i just had like it felt so like so pointed like hey i heard you look and we got this like

[5:11] fresh batch not that expensive and there’s charities yeah the um yeah fatherhood the

[5:19] man the kid is in a weird place right now oh that’s awesome because it’s it’s as if his ambition outstrips his ability okay yeah where i think a lot of the

[5:29] current stuff is kind of boring him it doesn’t help too he at as a base level he’s sick um so he’s had a bit of a cough and

[5:38] almost like a fever but not really hard to describe he’s just he’s not been well uh for a couple days and yeah it’s he’s just at this point

[5:46] where he is like almost like standing taking steps

[5:52] he’s quite good at like uh his dexterity is getting much better and his reasoning but you can see like that development of it but it just hasn’t so he it’s like

[6:00] he’s developed enough to be bored of certain things but he hasn’t developed enough to find out other things to do to be happy

[6:08] like it’s this weird like cycle of just him boring himself and like being upset about it right so yeah it just tends to be on a bit of a

[6:16] roller coaster as far as emotions because one woman will be happy and playing and then just plummets down into upset but then a ball rolls by and he

[6:24] just like skyrockets up to happy again what what is this but uh yeah i don’t know from

[6:34] my experience now as a dad like 10 months it feels as though it’s just like it’s kind of just this weird weird point for him and it’s something

[6:42] he would grow from or grow out of so curious curious to see what it is but it it made for a certainly difficult week like it was definitely trying yeah which

[6:51] again the sickness of everything like the sickness alone would i think be trying enough and i think parents find it quite trying

[6:57] because yeah they’re sick and then you get sick after they’re good and then you know your partner gets sick and it’s like a

[7:05] cyclical thing just a new sex appears oh man because he had the uh geez because i had mentioned to you before the show but

[7:13] like i saw i’d taken a work trip and just as the work trip ended like i just fell off a cliff and got just the plague like the worst plane i’ve

[7:22] ever seen i was so sick and i i was ended up being physically sick on the plane which is

[7:31] awful imagine everybody at home like imagine how horrific let’s not imagine let’s not imagine your mind how terrible you would

[7:38] feel if you had to be sick on a plane and then in real life it’s twice as bad i guarantee it it’s so bad

[7:47] to be in that scenario and you’re just sitting there and it’s happened and you’re like what am i supposed to do now

[7:55] i’m still in this little cabin in a box the guy beside me was super like relatively compassionate he kind of just like minded his own

[8:03] business and when things were in the clear he kind of quietly said are you okay he’s patting your back he’s yeah like

[8:09] well what it would have been he played it perfect now that i think of it because because if he was if he’s over compassionate like oh my god oh

[8:16] what can i get for you what can i do and i’m like that that wouldn’t have helped but if he was like under compassionate like you jerk like why how dare you do

[8:24] this to me so he played it pretty well but um anyway so i came home that’s how ill i was i lost an entire day i was just

[8:32] feverish hell dreams for an entire day and this evening i’m finally starting to get back on track today and my wife has now got the same thing

[8:42] of course she showed all the same signs when it started for me that’s what people don’t know it’s like when you have a kid and they

[8:50] like especially when they go to daycare it’s called daycare plague they come back and it’s it’s a three-week uh ordeal of just them getting sick and

[9:00] then transferring it to any other siblings and then to you and then to your partner and then back again because the immunity is lost it’s

[9:07] like it just it just morphs just enough to get you sick a second time you know it’s like a video game when you like you hit something and you flash a little bit

[9:15] and then you’re back to normal you’re back to solid it’s just that’s when it hits you again it’s that’s a perfect analogy that’s amazing

[9:26] yeah so we’ll we’ll see i’m left here oh yeah if we can get out of this one because this one’s a particular this one’s bad oh my goodness you just feel

[9:34] like every joint is just like crying out in pain and just fever like man i the the bed was so soaked last night

[9:43] like it was a swimming pool i was sweating so bad yeah you puking sweating you’re just getting old and falling apart everything just at the seams i’m

[9:51] just ripping a part of this i’m not in a good place yeah like i said i thank god i’m feeling better uh my wife was an absolute champ

[9:58] helping out which means certainly now what’s great is the timing i told her if there’s any silver lining it’s the timing because

[10:06] you’ve waited until i’m better so i don’t know if we were both in that state like i

[10:12] don’t i don’t know what on earth you do you just watch your kids water into the kitchen you just just take yourself just go

[10:21] go baby go to the world bring help um yeah jeez

[10:27] let’s see yeah i think i mentioned gaming so yeah on to the updates from last week so when we last left our valiant new dad heroes

[10:36] so quick update on the bmw thing i’m not gonna buy it oh i

[10:47] like my so my wife is um she’s she’s really incredible and like she never she would never stop me from doing something like that like if i was

[10:55] really heart set on it um she’s always really kind in that way as far as like and i think we are to

[11:01] each other like if you really have your heart set on something we’d let him go for it but

[11:06] you know she just asked some really pointed questions and brought up some really pointed ideas around the whole thing and it’s

[11:12] just like it gets it becomes really hard to defend being able to do it so

[11:20] yeah and just and ultimately i think it kind of exposed my own nagging doubts about the whole enterprise so no no old old dusty

[11:29] beat down bmw for myself i got to cancel that leather jacket i ordered you and bmw

[11:37] it was like the ace or something on the back it like ate like like joker’s like sewn on the sleeves or something exactly just

[11:45] like that how’d you know zero for one there for one but um

[11:51] it’s for the best you know i think uh we’ll see if some great fortunes come in the future and you know i can but it’s probably better to wait for a true

[11:58] mid-life crisis right like that we’ll save that one

[12:07] when this show continues on and i’m fully bald just like you know what i’m going to do this week my kid’s 14 damn it i deserve the bmw

[12:16] the same one it’s now 40 years old yeah the um see so secondary update the uh so i’d like to clarify a state so my statement was at the time i wonder what

[12:28] it would take to become right top hundred and street fighter yeah so i’d like to play plead some ignorance all right no this is your

[12:36] journey this is your new career and jeez like you know you know what it takes to be it is on par with me stating something

[12:45] like i want to become an olympic diver like these people are friggin elite man like these people they’re world known

[12:54] like they get invited to tournaments like there’s websites talking about the top ranked players the pool is massive like there’s guys

[13:01] celebrating when they make like 50 000 or like 20 000. like it’s not when i made this statement i think it was moroccan

[13:09] what’s that top 100 let’s do it i just yeah this there’s some part of me that almost wants to just stick to it and

[13:16] have it as a this like overarching life goal and let that keep on rolling which by the way this would take years like this is not

[13:22] gonna happen in like a matter of months well maybe it’s like once you make top 100 you get the bmw come on make it two two goals

[13:34] so i just got yeah yeah so i have this podium with a hundred like stages down and they’re on the top of that 100th podium because it’s like old-ass bmw

[13:46] i don’t know i think it was more akin to me saying something like i don’t want to like walk in some ways i don’t want to walk back from the goals but in other

[13:51] ways i don’t want to stick to ultimate was an ignorant statement i think it’s a more kind of saying like becoming like a hundred or a thousandth

[13:59] place if i was like a thousand thousands in the world thousands how many players are there like what’s

[14:07] the ranking system it’s like one to how many players are online like 50 000 i don’t know i have no idea no clue geez that’d be a

[14:16] good number i just know that like yeah there’s this man there’s so many like it’s it’s the community no the community is massive and like the pro

[14:24] scene especially is so mature those are all learning opportunities right it’s not don’t think of it as competition i got a lot of other stuff to do in my

[14:32] life it’s the type of thing i’ve always kind of i’ve always been curious about this and most other things like if you

[14:40] were to we’re able like you’re in some sort of point in your life where for the better part of like four years or two years

[14:46] that was the only thing you had to do you know lottery comes in you buy yourself a cabinet or like the best stick in the world and a coach and

[14:53] for two years you do nothing but train for that maybe i wonder like if you can’t be trusted to see as far as like a new dad gaming a couple

[15:02] times a week that’s your journey that’s what’s going to happen i don’t even know if i want it

[15:09] it was a whim it was a weird thought like like maybe it’ll be in what

[15:15] it might be that might be a cool journey i thought and i’ll say this i’ve been playing the game

[15:21] it’s i’m enjoying it it’s fun like i do like it i get there’s challenges too and you start to see the mechanics and all the

[15:27] things you can do the depth is a little terrifying as far like apparent so it’s interesting with street fighter 5

[15:34] apparently they’ve really lowered the bar and it’s one of those things you even notice all the pros talking about i’ve joined the

[15:41] subreddit that talks about it i’ve you know just started to take some watching videos for education on it and

[15:48] you’re watching with your kid you’re like hey look look at all the pretty colors and my kid likes ryu

[15:58] of course so the um yeah but they talked about like street fighter 5 is a much lower barrier to

[16:03] entry where 4 was like got super technical yeah with all the various elements of it and what’s interesting too there’s a part of me that too like i

[16:11] already had um i had a pretty good discount code for buying number five but i thought i had i had four already previously played it a

[16:19] bunch enjoyed it yep um but and i thought okay maybe i could just play that one instead and like kind of get a taste for it but ultimately

[16:28] uh five like four they’re phasing out they’re not gonna have that like on the pro circuit anymore so it’s just five and like some of the older variants

[16:35] so yeah so dived in excellent like it’s a real fun game like it loved its art style

[16:42] yeah visuals everything’s like it’s really it’s an incredible product certainly it’s kind of funny because it’s actually only half baked like

[16:49] they’re missing a bunch of content there’s no like single-player arcade stuff there’s like a whole bunch of missing stuff that they got in a bunch

[16:55] of trouble for from the community yeah that’s ridiculous thus far it’s great what’s going to be it’s ultimately going to be a grind

[17:02] because as your pl so they have this ranking system i don’t know if this is how it was previously but every win you get depending on who you’re fighting if

[17:09] it’s a much higher guy or lower guy you get points so if you play someone who’s like much a high much beat somebody who’s much higher than you you’ll get

[17:16] like 100 points okay somebody who’s like lower than you you get like five points right okay so you just need a couple of clutch wins and you’re good right yeah

[17:25] just two clutches set up in the top so i just have to bribe like yeah so yeah but so that’s a grind ultimately

[17:35] right because you’re going to lose some ultimately like just like you’re going to have some bad matches so like you know like win win win like lose lose win

[17:42] lose and there’s like stories of guys who’d gone all the way up and then just had like a two weeks of disaster like plummeted down

[17:49] so it’d be a grind and besides just the fact that i suck i reiterate i suck at fighting games like i’m no good at these ones like so

[17:58] this was your goal as a new dad the goal like it’s just a challenge not one to shy away from a challenge but i’ll say this man like i’m

[18:07] just not it’s all going to come down to that grind at the moment i’m kind of playing through some of the um they have these

[18:14] individual story modes those are and i’m doing some practice stuff um really for anybody looking to get into it there’s actually this

[18:22] thread on reddit it might be featured somewhere else but it’s something called geese gym i think keeps being a abbreviated form of zane geef

[18:31] but he gives a really it’s an incredible like list down of all the basics plus some actual like practice sessions you could

[18:38] do so in in the game in the training session you can give you can record movements for your opponent to do

[18:45] oh yeah okay so if there’s a particular combo set that you just keep getting tagged with like you can input it and then just

[18:52] continue to defend and like counter it and figure it out and he gives this like detailed list i think he’s up to like 20 lessons where you put in these special

[19:00] recordings that you practice that particular move like over and over to get the basics so i’ll say all that so far is being

[19:06] enjoyable and if the grind of like actually like working on the ladder and fighting like because it’s real life opponents that’s the only place where

[19:12] you get um these points of course um if that’s fun sure this could be like

[19:19] this would be an interesting subplot okay the whole way along but what the problem is like if if we get

[19:28] next month if you ask me about this and it’s just like i hate like every minute of it right you just you know i don’t i don’t

[19:35] think i’m gonna never have been but i’m just also not going to throw away such precious time

[19:44] too you should level the playing field you should we should create some sort of leaderboard that’s just dads just new dads

[19:50] just parents and you have to like prove it because you’re so bad at it that’s the new dad that’s

[19:56] and the list and the list caps out at 100 people yeah it’s like but there’s actually there’s actually and

[20:02] some of them the community is pretty interesting it seems like it’s i’m not used to engaging with these communities i don’t know if you are but

[20:11] like not really i’m kind of in the bushes yeah right because you’re spying for the bushes with the glasses but um

[20:19] yeah no there’s actually these threads where it’s like hey newbies we’re we’re having a newbie night we create these rooms of eight people and we just fight

[20:26] each other uh maybe we chat and we you know spectate each other’s matches and we learn and we just like you know it’s all about just

[20:33] and i think they have a rule like if you win like three or four in a row like you get kicked out

[20:39] there’s something oh really okay you’re better yeah you’re not a noob anymore you’re just you’ve graduated yeah it’s like you could get in if you

[20:45] could just so consistently beat everybody else like then you don’t belong in that particular group of eight maybe you can switch or you’re just too

[20:51] great yeah so i mean it’s so that it’s that interesting kind of building community again i’ve never really engaged in much

[20:58] of a community i’ve since i’ve missed the whole mmo thing so right that’s interesting i’ll report back so

[21:04] at the moment enjoying it a little frightful i am i’m telling you if i get to a thousand as opposed to 100 i think

[21:12] i would feel very happy with myself hundred is more like that’s impo yeah that sounds like you’re shooting for the moon yeah that’s like me saying like i’m

[21:20] gonna be on a pro starcraft 2 team oh that’s yeah like literally like if you were it’s like saying i’m gonna become a top

[21:28] hundred like starcraft player it’s like you just you’re just not right unless you’re like unless unless you’re 19 and you can dedicate like 20 hours a day

[21:36] you’re not going to do it i feel that you saw the reflexes like sad reflexes are good that’s not knocking the dad reflexes like you know

[21:44] when your kid’s like about to fall or something you can leap in action but usually you heard afterwards like you’re like oh man i totally busted something

[21:52] in my back yeah but that’s that’s also special you’re exactly right firstly that’s special dad adrenaline that already

[21:59] comes out when your kid’s in danger yeah and then you pay for it for days that’s it you’re on the couch playing street fighter 5.

[22:08] good now correct me from so that so that’s that my update now for your update to um

[22:15] would you like me to intro it shall you oh right yeah no last week we talked so well i had two things going on right now

[22:22] do correct me know that seems to be i seem to recall you had a beige couch last week behind you oh yes oh yes and i seem to notice that

[22:31] that is a green coach behind you that’s hilarious uh yeah potty training went horrible but it’s not because the couch switch

[22:41] that had nothing to do with it so i died i didn’t intro the intro the kind folks into what you were gonna decided to go through

[22:49] last weekend okay two things going on last week was we were going through potty training for my

[22:55] almost three-year-old and that consisted of like a cold turkey setup where you put them right in underwear diapers are no more

[23:03] you you follow him around you you tell him to let me know when you want to go potty you give him water you ask him again are you wet are you dry

[23:13] whatever there’s a whole system just madness absolutely for three days actually we got extra days because there’s a really bad ice storm on

[23:20] thursday so all the schools were closed so we got the extra day of madness which is good and bad because we could concentrate again on

[23:29] potty training anyway it went really well for the first three days like he he stuck to it he had a couple accidents which you know fine whatever uh he was

[23:40] dry through the night which is insane like that is a big accomplishment for him and then he had a

[23:48] couple uh number two accidents which in underwear is not the best because okay i don’t want to gross everybody out but you talk about puking on a plane so

[23:58] this is this is bad gaming okay just that’s true that’s true this is this is real talk so so it just you talk about kaka let’s do this okay let’s talk about

[24:08] boopsies um no he just it’s okay an underwear in a diaper it’s totally different it just kind of like it lays out

[24:14] in or in yeah in a diaper and underwear it’s just because he the way he’s sitting and the way it’s formed it’s just a big pancake

[24:23] just imagine a pancake on his butt and you have to change him but you have to show still that the poop goes into

[24:31] the toilet so you have to somehow levitate them above the toilet and peel off the underwear and and

[24:40] roll the poop down into the toilet so he still understands that no the poop doesn’t go in your underwear it goes in the toilet even though it’s in your

[24:46] underwear now it’s still going in the toilet we’re not throwing it out like a diaper wow it’s like that said at that age like it’s again it’s not

[24:55] enough to explain it to them they actually have to see the physical and it’s probably just a like a

[25:01] supportive thing to it i’m sure you could just explain it and they they might go in one ear out the other it’s probably like a kid to kid thing my

[25:10] kid is not focused that way so a visual helps it’s gross visual but it helps so he had a couple of those which is just awful at this age with uh

[25:21] you know what he’s eating and it’s not as you know clean as what was it came before it was baby poops yeah it’s gross

[25:29] so he’s okay now it’s just he’s got a couple accidents we’re still on him he’s not fully there yet so our her you know

[25:37] three four day cold turkey thing is still kind of continuing so around six seven day that’s that’s fine we’ll we’ll get we’ll get there

[25:45] um didn’t have any accidents on the floors or couches or anything so don’t worry about this

[25:51] switch so for folks not uh on the video last week jeff had he was explaining this to me and it was

[25:59] just i was looking at his house behind him and his carpet is this nice clean beige

[26:06] and he had this nice white couch and he’s talking about yeah we’re just going to cold turkey take the diapers off my kid and let him run around

[26:14] and it just was mental to me like mental i couldn’t believe it reeve bravery and then he shows up this week and the couch has changed couch is

[26:24] completely different or reupholstered yeah no um no we got a new couch uh from a friend so that’s the couch switch and a good thing he didn’t mark his

[26:36] territory on the other couch because that would have been a problem um but no it’s this is going well

[26:44] yeah it’s just we’re trying to get them there his birthday’s next week so we’re trying to get fully into there but i find i’m carrying

[26:50] more stuff like going around like going to monkey nastics instead of carrying a diaper bag which is relatively easy now a couple

[26:57] diapers and wipes you have to carry clothes so clothes underwear wipes diaper just in case but it’s bigger i’m

[27:06] like i don’t want to go this way i want to go the other way so i’m hoping i’m seeing the light again um but we’ll see it’s continuing i will report back i’m

[27:15] hoping he will be completely unaware run around next week no problem okay so you can yeah so you think you can break them by

[27:23] uh i will break it i will break his diaper spirit by next week because for your first kid though like it the three to four day

[27:32] worked like it was it worked he had a couple accents after but it like he was pretty good at it and definitely no um number two accidents that way

[27:41] um we might had a couple uh in the room which is another story but um that was like i’ll explain that on another show

[27:52] because that’s a very involved one but uh he was pretty good uh the night time was uh another thing so he didn’t get that until a couple years after that

[28:01] but that’s fine like he can you know wear his nighttime underwear and and wake up and be good all day so we’re getting there

[28:08] it’s yeah happen again it’s just exhausting to deal it so we’re talking about that today actually that feels like one of the

[28:16] other huge hallmarks of uh parenting where you can kind of relax and just enjoy things because like the sleeping through the night like we

[28:24] thought about like when adrian started sleeping through the night like our world changed like a milestone yeah like god everything got so much

[28:32] better like just because he he went to bed at six and he woke up at five and certainly that’s early but still like just

[28:39] after six or like 6 30 you you got it like you can clean and then you you already know whatever you want if you’re really tired you just go

[28:47] to bed and then you yourself can sleep until five you know he’s well rested right like he gets a good night’s sleep and yeah so it so

[28:55] that was incredible and we were thinking about like that next one must be when we’re trying to think of something with eating like maybe with bottles

[29:03] but then you still got to cook for them i think it was more i think the next week you still to feed them i guess them i

[29:09] guess but the next just leave like a food truffle and they gotta go do it whenever they want with your dog food just yeah

[29:19] my dog’s bowl he got my kids well if he doesn’t eat it the dog will get it so competition the yeah i was thinking the most second

[29:27] most freeing thing after that must be the diaper changing thing like the thought that your kid of their own volition

[29:34] will just walk themselves into a bathroom and take care of business and it doesn’t involve you taking care of business

[29:40] right it’s great thought right i think one that comes before that is probably walking like without a stroller because then you don’t have to pack the stroller

[29:48] uh that’s a freeing thing because you know isn’t that far so like don’t they just like get tired and you have to carry them anyways well it depends on if

[29:53] you’re doing like a marathon or something like if you just walk in the mall you can they can usually handle it or get a mall cart but there seems to be

[30:00] two truisms around that like one is like if you bring the stroller they will get out of the stroller and walk and if

[30:06] you don’t bring controller they’ll demand to be carried correct you can’t win so you just decided you want to carry your kids how much do

[30:14] kids hate parents like just like we’re just the worst people on earth apparently well they’re seeing how far they can push you before you snap right

[30:22] like i’m trying to break him with his potty training he’s trying to break me mentally oh man he almost had me today because he’s um

[30:30] he’s biting oh no oh god right he’s got cause he’s got he’s 10 months but he has all these teeth like he has

[31:41] well actually no my four-year-old take out a like a neck piece of my back neck like he’d bit like and that’s full set of teeth and he

[31:52] had heavy punishment for that one but holy you’ve never felt anything but a kid’s bite it’s just yeah that’s terrible oh

[32:01] that’s terrifying see if at least again for me at least like uh well not at least like that’s still that’s horrific but i mean

[32:07] at two years old at least he can i think they have some concept of like i don’t say punishment but like still just like you something right yeah yeah you

[32:15] can do you can hear through explanation or action you can convey wrongness and at this point i just can’t like there’s he

[32:23] doesn’t get it yet like and i think i hope he has some empathy towards emotion a little bit but you know i can’t punish him like

[33:18] yeah just like the slapping and like the hitting in the face like as i’m holding on them it’s just like like i i’m trying to change you like i’m

[33:26] trying to do this like if you’re just punching my face like this you’re not playing street fighter in front of him right maybe that maybe he’s

[33:33] trying to his first first words hadouken maybe now yeah no that’s brutal and they do grow

[33:43] out of it but they need to go through that phase of violence just straight up violence survive the wild

[33:49] i’m actually man i’m kind of happy to hear two follow-ups on that so first i’m very happy to hear you say that

[33:58] word is like oh i wonder if uh little beautiful sunny is just a little bit on the violent side that’s

[34:06] not going to be good no no the worst part is when they go to daycare and they’ve done that to another kid

[34:11] and and they don’t mention the other kid’s name because they don’t really want to um single out anybody or get parents mad

[34:18] at each other so you’re like oh crap like that kid is old enough probably to repeat the name of my kid or vice versa

[34:26] and you’re like i totally know who it is and that’s gonna just suck at a birthday party invite or seeing them in the morning oh he did i don’t know if i

[34:33] mentioned it he did that he bit a kid update oh see yeah just crawled over and like at the time he wasn’t really doing it at

[34:42] home and they asked us like you know is he doing this at home and it’s like not particularly and now it’s like yes like all the time it’s like one when he’s not

[34:50] busy punching my face like yes he tends to bite me a bunch the um yeah so the second yeah so firstly

[34:58] wonderfully relieving to hear yours as well and it’s like kind of a little bit normal the second one is like i was wondering if

[35:05] it’s and unfortunately you won’t really be able to answer me but the if it’s just a male thing is it just little boys or the little girls go

[35:13] through a violent face like this well just just from daycare yes like girls have bitten my boys

[35:20] um but i don’t know you know firsthand i know that from having two boys they have a lot more energy it seems

[35:28] just from uh basic observation um girls tend to like in the classes that i’ve kind of gone and dropped my kid off the girls

[35:38] are sitting at a table coloring or like putting stickers on a page or talking normally to each other and my kid goes in with a batman shirt

[35:47] screaming batman and he goes around and just like flies around the room and he does a circuit like like he has to do it as a

[35:53] ritual and then he like goes into his ring like a like a wrestler coming with pyrotechnics and he’s just up in some kid’s face just so that’s my car

[36:03] that’s those i don’t know maybe it’s maybe it’s boys maybe it’s just my kids but uh there definitely is just

[36:10] a sense of uh it’s a different energy i do think girls though still like just kids of that age go through the

[36:19] the biting and the violence and then you curb that but they uh they test their limits and yours

[36:28] yeah it’s just again like it’s just weird being a parent at this point because it’s just not you know you’re essentially powerless

[36:34] like there’s just nothing no no yeah just wait until you get into like a like a grocery store and they’re talking and they talk honestly

[36:42] like to other people about them and you’re just like just shut up just shut up don’t don’t say his hair looks weird or that

[36:50] guy looks like santa claus like those are you know whatever like bare minimum comments he said some other worst things but

[36:59] do you need braces like okay kid she’s got that teeth don’t say anything please that guy looks like an errand like no dear please don’t you know they’re just

[37:09] honest kids so wait until you get into talking it’s just you have to face that person yeah

[37:15] jeez just like quiet yeah that’s stressful even there’s just no

[37:22] end nope but the uh yeah i think that was like the

[37:29] conversation i was having with my wife today and i think it’s just the um well i mean actually i could pose as a question to you like i think my

[37:35] assumption is is that each new age brings obviously new challenges so it’s not like you surpass something and it’s like okay

[37:43] well now it’s fine like it’s easy right no there’s some part of me that assumes that like some of the worst challenges are front loaded like namely like when

[37:51] you first have the kid and you just can’t sleep and you know that you’re desperate to keep them alive and then now in the

[37:57] toddler phase when they’re just learning stuff and they’re still not sleeping or eating quite right and you’re going to and then they figure

[38:03] that out and then they stop soiling themselves like at any of those phases like that obviously new things replace them but i

[38:10] still think that like is it would it not be like aren’t those some of the most difficult ones or do you find like

[38:16] these they’ve surpassed um they don’t go to the washroom they don’t need

[38:21] diapers they yeah kind of feed themselves nicely i mean you have to provide but i mean they it’s up to you know what i mean when i

[38:29] say they’re not making sandwiches food bowl yeah food bowl thank you um is that it they sleep yeah it

[38:40] do you find it like kind of harder compared to like to say the 10 month stage or do you think like genuine is still it’s a progression that’s

[38:46] somewhat easier i do think that like in the beginning so when you’re laying the foundation where you know they’re they’re sleeping through the night

[38:54] they’re going to the bathroom by themselves they can ask for a snack just talking alone is a great communication tool once they learn it

[39:02] all those were very hard to get through and very exhausting for you to get through right so it’s stress on you stress on them because they can’t

[39:09] communicate can’t you know take care of themselves which is the hardest part i do think new challenges do they replace those but

[39:18] they’re not as difficult like right now um like i have to worry about my kid uh my oldest kid in school to see if you know is he hitting those milestones for

[39:27] math and science and english so those are different challenges that i can talk to him about right so i can communicate

[39:34] um you know as he going around you know punching a kid i can communicate to him right where those basics of him going to the washroom and sleeping and

[39:43] not talking to you uh are taken care of like i do think that uh you’re in the worst part

[39:52] you are in the worst phase it’s just laugh all you want but that is like that is really reassuring because it’s like as far as i know right maybe

[39:59] after five check in next year and jeff is there like yeah just wait until they’re teenagers and i’m sure that it’ll be a

[40:07] different story then but like like i think you’re always going to worry like you’re if this you know how your parents say that you know we’re always we’re

[40:15] your parents we’re obviously going to worry about you and i said to myself well yeah no once they’re got the basics down you know i’ll be kind of loose and

[40:22] whatever but you do worry all the time about them just like are you doing enough are they getting enough are you reading are you you know reading enough

[40:32] you developing skills to get a job like i don’t know like you what are you getting into like yeah yeah yeah so it feels

[40:40] like a bit of a curve actually because like where it’s like the absolute like a dip like it’s absolute hardest and it kind of eases off and let’s put

[40:47] that at anywhere from like five to like not like even 10 12. yeah you know like like eight-year-olds 12 years old they’re darling right

[40:56] and then they just become teenagers and it just feels like all the like like

[41:02] god all the hormones that come in and the pressures that they have in school homework i’m not gonna have any idea what the hell they’re looking at

[41:10] well yeah and then you know they have the ability to generate their own life at that point so that would be a stress inducer

[41:19] we basically get to go through high school all over again yeah and that’s going to suck hey i don’t want to go back to school

[41:25] yeah i i don’t want to go back to high school man homework i don’t want to don’t forget i have no idea how to do this

[41:32] you’re on your own oh high school i hated high school homework like easy to come back and like i don’t want to do this i’m like i know

[41:39] oh my god fighter five hold on you do your homework yeah you just agree like don’t still going you got to do it but uh i

[41:49] agree i sympathize yeah yeah just to wrap it up though the um

[41:56] yeah so you were this is worrying to me so you were disappointed in the new final fantasy demo is it 15

[42:04] final fantasy 15 yes final fantasy whatever they called it now no 15. um i wanted that to be good there was a previous demo called duskey

[42:13] or deuce okay but you had to buy like final fantasy type zero to get it so i never did so i never played that demo so they released this other demo so it

[42:23] paused quickly so type 0 was something you could actually buy i thought that was i think it was a remaster or something

[42:30] and it came with a final fantasy 15 demo code or something like it came along with it available in north america like type zero maybe not i don’t know

[42:39] i don’t know i like i wasn’t interested in the game that they were pushing to get the demo so yeah yeah so yeah so go on

[42:47] so they released this other demo like kind of unexpectedly to the public they said here’s the platinum demo um available now and it’s like four gigs

[42:56] i’m like great i thought i would like be 50 gigs knowing kleenex to load it with cgs cutscenes and stuff but uh loaded it up and i

[43:06] don’t like the direction i don’t like okay it plays like kingdom hearts so if anybody hasn’t played kingdom hearts think of like

[43:15] almost like mario going around with a weapon and the enemies pop up on screen and you have to fight them like you

[43:23] would real time right and i’m used to turn-based or even like um like active but then you could pause and kind of figure out your strategy i

[43:31] think final fantasy 12 had that where it was active but you can kind of slow it down i love the system 12. that’s one of my favorite final fantasy systems so

[43:40] this one you just mash buttons to kill these little enemies and it’s it’s i don’t know if it’s part of the

[43:48] game uh like the final game or if they’re kind of giving you like more of a tech demo but you’re a little kid with like a plastic hammer

[43:54] and you’re going around fighting guys that appear of shadows exactly like kingdom hearts like like almost to a t and i don’t like the

[44:03] kiddush kind of stuff like that like i don’t i don’t mind being a kid and going to this you know

[44:09] tech world and fighting actual monsters and having magical powers and stuff but it’s literally like a toy hammer and you’re going through this dream that

[44:17] you’re having that changes when you like hit these pads and these pads change the day from you know sunlight to

[44:26] darkness and then it changes the weather from sun to to pouring rain and then you’re going through in this

[44:33] little animal character that is following you is squeaking to you but the squeaks are transmitted to your cell phone in game so you are

[44:43] this kid with a cell phone that’s getting texts from an animal character does this sound weird yet because it’s just like the kid

[44:50] with a hammer fighting the shadow it’s like yeah that that is yep kingdom hearts

[44:56] right instead of the keyboard or whatever yeah man that’s a weird decision as far as like the active

[45:02] yeah like an actual act of combat as opposed to yeah and i i don’t i don’t like you’re even collecting

[45:09] gems so you’re platforming collecting gems to open up these little platforms that will change the day or change the location or

[45:17] whatever or activate certain events i and it was just sure you got the right

[45:24] man this is like hold on no but this is so this is fun fantasy 15 and it’s like like four bros in a car

[45:31] yeah well you know how what on earth are you talking about i know and they don’t give you any of that and it’s just wait a minute hold on

[45:40] so the demo does not feature the car or when was the demo released like yesterday yesterday maybe april 1st yeah yeah it’s not april fools

[45:53] march 31st because there was a previous demo in the previous demo i saw videos of it you were it was insane it looked like an

[46:00] active it looked like an act about like the battle system from 12 almost and you were the four bros and you’re running around i think they even had

[46:07] some car parts that it featured yeah and you could conquer up and summon people not this

[46:14] no so i don’t know if it’s i’m hoping if they fix this or at least provide the option because when i ended it up like

[46:24] the final battle not to it’s not really spoiling it it’s just this big monster comes out and you go from boy saying i’m not afraid of my dreams

[46:32] anymore and you grow up into this like the person you see in the other demo so you do an adult now you have a bigger sword

[46:40] and uh a couple magic spells if you found the magic spells like you need to go through the world and find the magic that you’re going to use

[46:48] which okay like i like learning them right you gain levels you grind let me try to give you a sliver of hope

[46:56] of what i think this morning no not you’ve decided you’re out uh i just don’t i don’t know so the i’m hoping to hope i want it to

[47:04] be good because that scene because if if you go back go and watch some videos of the first demo

[47:10] right which looks like a more very much a classic um final fantasy style and i thought that they would completely just throw that system

[47:20] and go into this new real time plus like platforming stuff and things like that yeah i would bet that this is like a one-off

[47:28] um what’s the snow world called in not the playground theme park in final fantasy vii

[47:37] oh golden saucer yeah it is a golden saucer like dream sequence as far as it’s just it’s a it’s like a funny platformer thing that is only in the

[47:47] dream sequence because like i’m not afraid because otherwise like it’s just so bizarre

[47:54] yeah like and i don’t know maybe it’ll get better maybe they just sampled part of the game that

[48:00] was not a good choice i literally think that might be that dream sequence or maybe there’s a few more dream sequences that play like that

[48:08] but it’s just like hard to imagine that they would give up the battle system they had but why put it out then like you’re

[48:14] pissing me off like you just turned me off from the game right like i know that’s a risk with any

[48:19] demo but holy like it’s such a disconnect like you’re running around just smashing things with a toy hammer that’s not

[48:26] you’re trying to target an audience that’s i don’t know either nostalgic or a little bit more grown

[48:32] up the battle the boss of battle was it also fought with the old guy the older guy in the same manner

[48:40] um you had a couple more options so you had uh like you had a dodge attack and you had an actual like fire spell and with that one which again weird

[48:49] uh your one story i don’t know if you’ve seen it in a couple of videos but you can fire it up vertically and just hang like hang out and so the enemies are way

[48:58] down down on the ground and you can just keep firing up this building like vertically just keep going up and

[49:04] just sit there not do anything but you’re supposed to find other stuff in the world to help

[49:09] you again it’s like i don’t know i don’t like it i’m gonna check out some videos because yeah that’s

[49:15] some part of the hopes that it’s it sounds like such a like the platforming with gems feels like such a departure that’s

[49:22] that’s so much kingdom hearts it’s like either a terribly fools joke or it’s like i said

[49:30] just meant to be a one-off dream sequence which would be weird yeah that was your demo like just throwing off of what’s

[49:36] supposed to be a demonstration yeah okay well and you have to you have to do it

[49:43] because the little animal character that’s following you around is carbuncle so you know the one you can summon in a

[49:49] different final fantasy and if you don’t do the demo you don’t get him in the actual game which

[49:55] wait so if you don’t play the demo you don’t get you don’t get him that’s at least what people have said right now they might just patch them in later but

[50:04] that’s kind of lame and they’re aiming for like 10 million units to make it worth their while 10 million

[50:11] units well this has been like a decade of development this thing was announced 2005 2006. good luck with that and i don’t know how they’re going to do

[50:22] it when i’m not going to buy it right under come on i’m your key audience let’s say final fantasy all they need to do is

[50:29] to show a video though with sorry speak so the camera’s on you then make that motion again

[50:35] give me there it is perfect yeah all i need to do is show you a video with the the proper battle system

[50:43] in and i bet you’ll be buying that game i am so worried for final fantasy 7 now though the remake because if it’s the same system i am
