[0:08] so a sneak preview into the episode the trick to having your kid fly well is to make them terribly sick welcome to new dad getting it I gave up a whole

[0:19] fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name is Trevor and I have a 10 month old my name is Jeff I have some sort of virus

[0:28] five-year-old and a now three year old maybe were delayed a number of days so did you get this illness from your kid yes there’s no question yes oh it

[0:40] doesn’t matter where it came from yes my oldest one had it and then Carse the hacking coughing in your face that’s just a matter of time so it was 42 like

[0:52] you’re holding them up like you know you’re holding or playing with them and they just cough in your mouth and you’re like done come on I’m not gonna survive

[1:02] this I don’t have that I don’t have the strength of like overcome this now ya know you start popping like vitamins think it’s gonna help it’s like a god

[1:10] something’s in me I need to get it out there’s no repercussions it’s just like look kid like the worst factor is I could less take care because of how ill

[1:18] i am but i have to i’m going to know it’s almost like they should like it’s like you made me sick you’re on your own for four days like I love it they love

[1:28] it I just like I’m sorry I had to put on netflix here sitting for the TV I don’t I can’t move actually how is so you from the last episode that is the same couch

[1:42] behind you it is that you had on the previous episode it might assume that your potty training events have gone or train as your potty training has

[1:52] proceeded well it has he’s he’s actually well for lack of better word he’s pooped on the potty at school so that’s a big step big aha he’s been dry most of

[2:04] context for new viewers the Jeff isn’t was employing a cold turkey method to teach his kid how did you go to the potty training

[2:14] literally just addiction right like yeah literally Friday diapers Saturday no diapers right and it already survived and then yeah I survived and then it

[2:28] went downhill but now we’re back up for where we need to be so we’re getting close he’s had years and there’s but most of the day he’s dry and go to the

[2:37] bathroom and he tells you his great I can see the light hopefully what’s how long does it usually take didn’t do cold you’re on like week three it looks like

[2:47] you’re always ruined how long does it usually take for a kid when you’re really applying it to months it’s it’s gonna be definitely every kid like I’ve

[2:57] seen some kids in his class that um parents have diapers on the Friday they don’t have a Monday and that kids fight like you’re walking around doing

[3:05] whatever my kid my oldest took a couple months just to get everything down pat but now I don’t know after that you’re just so grateful without diapers so it

[3:20] seems like forever when you’re doing it but yeah I know it gets better it’s a it’ll take a couple months to get everything down like nights to wear my

[3:28] oldest had some problems with that but we got past it and now everything’s on to number two just focusing on number two I want to get out of divers

[3:38] completely the peace beautiful future I know so yeah it’s got to be them on the big last big hang-ups cuz man i get there sleeping on their own and the food

[3:52] feeding is kind of normalize like the thought that they were just you don’t have to change diapers anymore like that Wow what’s that i receive so be it would

[4:01] have this point with with the first one we did cloth diapers which is good in like protecting the environment but then holy when they get you know little kid

[4:13] poops that sucks we moved over to disposable screw you earth i don’t care look I’m sorry no so we actually did we do cloth diapers

[4:26] although that’s more its vit there’s been great like the savings is wonderful the environment part is great the one great thing we notice is he’s really not

[4:36] had any rashes or any issues down there the entire time and that’s like that’s going on oh yeah a 10 11 months like that it seems to handle it much better

[4:45] but it’s like right like the other diaper just kind of collects he’s getting bigger and bigger car to stop it says no I think it’s by the grace of my

[4:58] wife so let me do that because the she’d she’s one who washes them so oh yeah so go do my part in changing when everything but she’s the one who’s no

[5:06] knee deep and oh God unmentionables so who but I so I’m curious if it was left to my own devices if I would have the fortitude to see it through what else

[5:17] early i’ll certainly vouch for the benefits of it numerous the so nice nice segue into from caca into video games just just to jeff us off of this what

[5:30] the what did you play this week uh well as we can kind of tell and kind of under the weather so i downloaded down well on iphone i think we mentioned it last week

[5:42] a pretty cool game just to kind of sit on the couch and like being a drug trip and do this little game on a um so no i’ve been playing that a little bit um i

[5:57] play co-op tetris with my wife which was a you know a test of the relationship as i say that you’re still your current wife or yeah absolutely no I let her win

[6:12] no I didn’t say that no it’s it’s a pretty cool game um uh it’s it’s okay like it it drags on by at least that gets my wife into gaming and then she

[6:24] actually a plate our call with me too so there’s green baby steps here so its a bright future for her to dark souls here she comes yeah right what no that’s

[6:38] about it on that I didn’t I failed at my divinity original sin that was going to continue that I couldn’t take the lure of that

[6:47] with this head cold so pretty simple news they become like really during your drug trips they become just real actually it’s not so much of a demon in

[6:58] game like yeah it’s outside of the game now no not gonna happen but no it’s been a pretty chill week I guess for me but how’s your career going in that Street

[7:10] Fighter how God so I had I’m so bad at this game oh and hopeful so slowly so I think like the I played a couple actually add a couple of ranked matches

[7:22] before and someone over just like disgusting blowouts but there’s there’s one that was a great I think you’re somebody who’s roughly in my range and I

[7:33] he 11 I 11 e 11 I think he took the whole set you could do like if you decide you can do a rewrite a best-of-three yeah dude a fun mechanic

[7:42] anyways but it felt it felt great like he start to get that sense of like okay like you could start to feel everything and so I think currently my rank after

[7:51] that I got a rank and I’d like I’m like 300 23,000 like 425 so I’m like sounds like those some in the three hundred thousands like that’s like 10 2012

[8:04] 220,000 ago well I’d respect them seven billion people right there’s that many players i was listening to this podcast for and at the time I wasn’t that far

[8:14] and this one this is tracking somebody’s journey through Street Fighter so I’m finding it terribly cathartic to like listen to someone else going through the

[8:22] same struggle i’m going through but at the time of he was talking about he’s like the two hundred thousands out of like three hundred thousand players and

[8:31] it’s not that it’s not that long ago so I get the feeling I’m in the bottom ten percent well um except for people haven’t been ranked yet if I can count

[8:40] that so see his goal was to be in top 10% of players whoa which see but if the number keeps growing this becomes a bit more reasonable because like again with

[8:49] my ignorance in stating the top hundred which is it’s like literally that’s actually a career okay know that that is a

[8:55] full-time here in the top under you probably make you could probably make enough to just do that for a living so that’s silly but it’s something to the

[9:03] effect of top a thousand or top in the top 10% like that sounds that’s kind of interesting that feels a bit more within a scope of a dad play right and not

[9:14] somebody’s do but it curious enough like so now I’m uh okay now get into the story a bit later but I’m coming to you from columbia in fact birthplace of my

[9:25] wife the incredible country if you ever get the chance and so now I’m mobile and traveling and what i’ve done is i’ve downloaded i found a copy of street

[9:36] fighter alpha 3 and this is back on the dreamcast and also like it released for the PSP so i’m playing at the try to try to practice my off time so i gotta keep

[9:49] on moving that decent parallel because it’s really you know you’re really getting your blocks and you’re figuring out the different movesets spacing

[9:56] there’s some mechanics that don’t translate but a lot of like the special moves and things do and a lot of the same characters and i tried a few of

[10:04] them and i think of all like the old ports three feels most akin to phi right so as far as just like a little bit off line training so that’s what i’m

[10:13] currently playing the most I mean I’m gonna terrible i haven’t beat at once like i haven’t beat the arcade mode once yet like it’s like little our way to go

[10:22] don’t you that’s so far I’m so I didn’t not to like I’m not about to give up but there’s some party that zooms okay maybe it’s not i don’t have it in me like I’m

[10:33] not gonna be an NBA player and I’m not gonna be very good at street fighter I have / aim high cover I mean uh huh I gotta shoot for the stuff yeah so um yes

[10:45] i’m doing a lot of street fighter still continuing on that quest that played a bit of mobile dots like you poke with mobile games sorry two dots it’s uncanny

[10:57] the number of levels that it has like I think there’s something like five or seven hundred other levels as you’re scrolling up like if you could

[11:06] care less to play the game like I swear just as someone who’s interested in games people should download it just to see the artwork yeah because the levels

[11:15] are presented in a vertical scrolling to keep going up yeah but in its entirety all the way up from one to seven hundred is custom animations and illustrations

[11:24] I’m scrolling up and you’re going through a cabin and then you’re underwater and then you’re in like an ice world and every time you’re

[11:31] scrolling up things are coming in to the side and as you win certain levels like there’s pieces that get placed online it even if you’re not next to into the game

[11:39] like that like it’s so impressive from a visual standpoint like just the depth like of the artwork yeah it sounds pretty cool look yeah you would you do

[11:48] it swishes illustrator yourself you would appreciate it just from that standpoint and the game itself is very just mind numbing you not to think about

[11:56] it very much I dragged on so it’s quite quite relaxing in that sense so I coach her on without a whole little whole bunch that was great something most of

[12:05] my gaming has been yeah a little porter street fighter trying to Train yeah can’t keep whatever skills I have sharp and then just mobile dots or two dots i

[12:17] should say otherwise just i look into the future and in so doing the you’ve mentioned that you downloaded off before we start the podcast you mentioned that

[12:24] you downloaded a doom beta yeah i did for ps4 so i shouldn’t assume it’s friendly for your kids you cannot replace yeah totally there’s no blood in

[12:33] it at all or demons or hell before you get into this like isn’t like tea fine legged would you actually let your kids see this like given that that that

[12:44] amount of blood is almost cartoonish or is it still realistic enough to be traumatizing no i think it’s kind of cartoonish like it’s splashes of blood

[12:53] it’s like if you ever think uh the other game would be unreal tournament or something where it’s just it’s kind of like there’s no Gibbs is what they used

[13:01] to call it where it’s like chunks of parts that kind of splatter all over the place it’s just uh it’s almost more cartoony looking to me or so surreal

[13:12] that I don’t think they’d be able to process what’s happening if there’s something like more defined like Call of Duty where it’s like

[13:18] human people with guns and stuff I think that would be way more traumatizing than something like do so but I still won’t show my kids it i don’t like five years

[13:27] old is not the time to show him that but have you ever played the old doom quake stuff have i ever played the old ooman quick yeah will you yes like I was

[13:40] totally into it yeah I remember not so much like it I played I never finished doom I think mostly because I only ever had like the beta where other demo discs

[13:51] were eventually ome weekend you make your way through the map and then you just get put into a room you just instantly die yeah there’s no yeah yeah

[13:59] shareware version I never had the full one yes i love my whole experience of doom i didn’t play the somewhat recent release and then with quake I think

[14:08] anybody who’s ever played games is like touched it a little bit I never really got deep into it cuz even back that is never particularly into twitch shooters

[14:16] it was always our RPGs so I never really held that appeal for me I love quick too I was in a quake and quake arena quake 3 arena was even fun an unreal tournament

[14:27] was my jam for like ever so when people were saying oh they’re gonna reboot doom and then Bethesda took it I was like well that’s odd because they’re not

[14:37] known for first-person shooters and so with his beta now you know granted a lot lot of this can change but they have power-ups and load outs they have a load

[14:51] out for doom so if you haven’t played doom ER quake where you go around the map and you can find a rocket launcher and then find the shotgun and you have

[15:01] infinite number of guns that you can kind of carry because you find them through at the level kind of creates that strategy to it now you’re limited

[15:08] to two guns as you go into battle until you die and then you can respond loadout I’m like you just made it like call of duty and then you get little

[15:18] achievements and like modifiers that you can apply it’s not what gene is to me just seems like they took away my childhood a little bit cuz look just rip

[15:31] it a little bit just like yeah it’s kind of you know like the one part you decide to be realistic about so you’re diving into the depths of hell to fight demons

[15:40] and float fire monsters but you know you’re only human so you can carry two guns yeah like got to maintain that realism right and it’s just the there’s

[15:49] one power up that you can find in the map that turns you into a demon which is basically unstoppable so then it’s aa like everyone’s racing for that thing

[15:58] and you got other people run around it’s the same guns if everyone shows the same load out so it’s just it’s not it’s fun is what I remember quake being or you

[16:11] know dhoom3 even so it’s a disappointed me is it speaking he’s not speaking a disappointment with the yeah so with our limited play time you know his dad’s I

[16:25] could see the breadth of games are coming out their doom and so it was a decent push for multiplayer but didn’t seem like they quite hit it now battle

[16:34] boards going through another beta okay which is like that thought about learning that was the sea like my view so there’s battledore on an overwatch

[16:42] right anyways coming up at the same time battleborn coming from the makers borderlands and overwatch coming from Blizzard makers of Diablo and her stone

[16:53] might my old jam except still have not

[17:01] oh you got it those two coming down like so so you look at your limited time frame you look at these two games which have yes some even of the have to say

[17:16] from look from our vantage point if you’re not going to pour everything into it like something like overwatch looks a little bit when we pick up and play i’m

[17:22] sure those custom advanced but just to jump in around and play it looks like overwatch is going to be the one to beat the one to play it kind of felt like

[17:33] doing could have been that in that old quake it’s just run gun shoot blow up demons you know fun and fantastic but sauce how’s it

[17:44] try to make it a bit more gritty realistic so I’m not sure that’s gonna be it is no such likely you know in limited time frames like with an ability

[17:52] to learn mechanics and nuances of team-based shooter name like that these ways speaks to a new father and like which one you could pause be good too I

[18:04] know and like it from my perspective battle bloody well see would do my thought they would have a single player component I could be wrong but maybe

[18:13] that comes out later or it’s not part of the beta but it should have a single player and then you get good in the single player to go to multiplayer right

[18:22] there’s no like training anymore they just these games throw you into multiplayer with seasoned people sure they kind of match up your teams but

[18:30] you’re running around and you can’t experiment with the with the guns yet or power-ups you get I remember older games used to include box so you could

[18:38] experiment with bots and just get good at the game before you jump in head first and then go on a multiplayer binge and you can’t do anything and then again

[18:46] with that time as a dad I want that time to be kind of fun and worthwhile and not jump into match and get killed like instantly because I don’t have the same

[18:56] power-ups that this guy is earned because he’s on level 4 to me I don’t know and that’s Iran Mr Graham is enough yeah man you know it was you know maybe

[19:11] was disappointing for that oh we’re like he took man like the current rewards for certain level who’s good now has access to this even better gun right making him

[19:26] even more efficient at killing me who’s new look at that seems so right guru players who aren’t going to be able to dedicate a lot of time right and that’s

[19:35] what they did with doom so again level up you get a new gun like seriously don’t do these to this these kind of games or you can buy buy all the weapons

[19:47] right of course I’ll have that

[20:34] get Trevor’s back to know it sucks with multiplayer is that when one player legs and they cut out of a game all of a sudden you just can’t hear them or see

[20:51] them or that’s that’s the worst or doing a podcast oh yeah and stuff so slow poke the shotty an internet connection i’m on the i will say one thing we the mobile

[21:08] network in colombia is phenomenal yes that’s good well sort like the terrain lent itself more to wireless networks as opposed to wired I mean a place like

[21:20] Candida you just you know you got big open field you can just lay down wire but Colombia is not quite so easy so as soon as like Wireless came they seem to

[21:27] really jump on it so the the wireless coverage in this country is incredible so it’s what i’m doing the money symbol money money money here see that that’s

[21:39] the SEC the sacrifices I make for the show but cereal anyway don’t don’t play multiplayer with people terrible connections don’t do podcasts with

[21:49] people with terrible terrible connections either that’s how those words to live by yeah so speaking of Columbia and getting here as I alluded

[21:58] to in the opening lady so we we had a flight the first time we’ve ever taken our son on flight look at that no I was just

[22:11] terrified like the thought of it of like you’d have to and if your kid goes rogue and it just dies off a cliff and like there’s no consoling him it’s like you

[22:22] were it is this it’s a six-hour flight so for sighs now for six hours if he wasn’t playing ball like it was gonna be miserable for everybody and I and you

[22:32] know I’d feel bad for other people to like it’s awful for me sure but like you know everyone else has to suffer along with me it’s like well well yeah no one

[22:42] opened up for this right yeah I think I think that makes it better that I was like modern-day airplanes like I’ll have the videos sounds like aah babies crying

[22:51] on go the headphones like there’s that saving grace but before I get into like they have you ever flown with your kids yes and my second son was eight months

[23:04] at the time I can go into my story too after you’re done yours okay / via I would love to hear the comparison so we the day before we fly fever our arms lv

[23:18] and i am looking at him like you have got to be kidding me you’re gonna pull you’re gonna pull this you know that is and just like just horror stories

[23:28] running through my head of sick baby just inconsolable yeah oh god because is gonna happen and he wakes he wakes up the next day we had to wake by the way

[23:37] we’re waking up at like four in the morning this is an early damn flight so I’m going on my baby up which feels you know counter to him enough as it is wake

[23:46] of up he is boiling so no I’m just like Oh God so I’m waking you up from happening hey dick and your fever you’re basically on fire like this is Oh

[23:59] redness so the good news is and the beautiful silver lining is that he was at the point of sickness of being cuddly and sleepy Oh perfect they not sad and

[24:13] irritable so on the way to the airport and through security he was kind of dopey from the being woken up and otherwise was kind of pretty

[24:22] as usual just woke up good mood so BAM first first tear apart taken care of second side note actually family lines and airports or the bomb I can’t put

[24:33] that we rice gift we skipped everybody I felt so good no it’s great is it an underlying would not being without a word of exaggeration we saved at least

[24:46] an hour off the time of getting to the security line because it’s like the family line and no one was in it it was it was not a hundred people it was oh so

[24:56] beautiful it was super easy family that before I am anyway planned except it was dumb enough so sick baby first phase beautiful like he did sleepy and dopey

[25:08] and get him through so now we get onto the plane and everything’s still kind of going well going well Paul gives it we give him a bottle he goes to sleep kid

[25:18] sleeps through the first two hours of the flight couldn’t believe it just just wow halation luck Yeah right and then he wakes up and he’s just had a wonderful

[25:29] nap so he’s in a pretty good mood get a little bit of tylenol to bring down the fever and so we gave him some toys we gave him kind of got a little bit of

[25:36] extra food so he’s playing around doing great falls asleep again was exposed to sleep again for another hour and a half he slept basically for three and a half

[25:45] hours of the flight and otherwise was in the post sleep good mood it was the wow I’m almost afraid of it because like the thought of like how bad my next flight

[25:57] is going to be because I thought this one was but what I mean what I’m hearing is that you everyone should go grab their kid and just drag them to the

[26:06] streets to get all the bacteria in them right put a bit of multiple knickers yeah have a sudden take one hour in a day like in eight different day cares

[26:15] let’s pick up everything so see what this is now that this is risky man because like it’s either your kit you’re gonna get cuddly wanna sleep sick baby

[26:26] we’re gonna get inked it syllable disaster baby which we lucked out I don’t recommend they get your kids sick on purpose for the flight

[26:36] but manacle flight man Wow here so lucky it was I yeah I like I said I’m just worried about it now like I’m worried that I’ve used up all my good flight

[26:48] karma on the way down here and then the flight back is gonna be just an absolute nightmare so man i’ll keep you posted on that yeah yeah then get you huh yeah if

[26:59] you want to have your gamblin man like get your kids super sick and put them on leave super early so well something like how about your experience our gym my

[27:09] experience was a little different so at the time I had it a month old and I guess a four year old at the time almost four uh or four if I that’s right I

[27:23] don’t have to double check anyway um so I’m expecting about my eldest to do fine right so in the light ups again the family line great because you have the

[27:31] stroller and all the bags I guess they feel bad for you whatever so you get through that part was fired in the waiting area I thought my youngest eight

[27:41] months is gonna be like just ah get me out of here bananas crying he was fine great wicked my hey my oldest decided to look the planes you know oh look how big

[27:55] and giant these things are awesome turns around for no reason he just he wants to go now and I’m like no you have to wait we’ve got another hour of waiting me I

[28:07] here early because we have to get mine and wait he is on the floor eating pouting of the carpet arrows looking at us i migrated of the one kid I didn’t

[28:18] expect to do that because you just interested asked questions he was screaming like chaos in the waiting area so people just you know how they give

[28:28] you like that side I like they’re like oh god like I’m going on a flight with these people know this is oh this is gonna be great yeah there’s there’s

[28:36] gonna praying like please please not my flight please not my flight please lethal be in my row please don’t be behind me okay so anyway we get on the

[28:46] flight my oldest calms down which is perfect cuz have those in-flight movies it just watches the movie great now my 8 month

[28:55] old uh doesn’t do so well and we’re going to like Cuba or something so it’s like a three hour flight not did you witness the tag liked it did they slap

[29:05] hands at some point like I right your turn let the transferred it right like they’re like okay now it’s your turn okay i missed thumb up i did my part now

[29:12] it’s your turn so my 8 month old do not do well so he he was crying the entire way and my wife is trying to feed them and just call them down and I it just

[29:25] didn’t end well I’m my job was to get up and like apologize all the people around so I’m going to like every everybody in like audible distances like okay you

[29:34] here right sorry that’s my kid I did I’m sorry and there I swear we’re good like I’m suing lucky enough of most of the people that were on the flight were kind

[29:44] of going to the same resort which is like a family resort Jeff was like oh no don’t worry I’ve been there good luck to you Godspeed like so is more like well

[29:52] wishes and we were going with friends and we like trade-off kids just so that you know we had an earful and we like can you please take him just to the back

[30:01] for a little bit so it wasn’t the best experience and that was like two and a half hours three hours of just hell and it probably felt like six hours at that

[30:10] time but uh it was not good so playing karma can come back on you for sure see them oh man listen yes that’s what I just picture that that was the nightmare

[30:22] that’s what I have C for being the flight back I don’t know just is this we’re like this miss Gummer right I guess it’s just weird to be in this

[30:33] position now because like I was always I never i always had sympathy for people when their kids crackers it’s like you know what babies cry it’s just how it

[30:41] goes sometimes you know they’re small they don’t get it but that’s just illinois’s yeah so I never I never I never hated the parents is more just

[30:49] like ah that’s too bad poor kid and I put on my headphones but like a man like being in this spot now like it’s so stressful like I don’t want to burn

[30:57] people and I I don’t want to deal with the bed crying baby for six hours Allah and a can in the sky that I can’t do anything about can’t take him

[31:06] for a walk like I can’t don’t know and that’s what happens when they’re a little old or two they get fidgety so they can only watch movie for like 90

[31:14] minutes and then they want to like run up and down the aisles so with that my the little trip we took was to the washroom which was totally neat because

[31:23] there’s no water in the toilet and all this other stuff that that was the interesting science experiment that he got to partake in but yeah man like you

[31:32] are stuck and you just you really start to meet people it’s just uh you get to know them and apologize and kind of go into their lives a little bit you could

[31:43] become friends it was passed around some I promised he like what the at his eight he still hasn’t clicked on the TV yet like he doesn’t watch her he doesn’t

[31:54] zoned out yet to show so that that’s not an option there’s no room in like vonage so it’s we’ll see see as soon as he can play video games I’ll get him like a des

[32:06] and I get a day yes like it was just like well link play or something like that just have ourselves a nice little game session in the sky but manito huh

[32:17] that’s about the name for it I like it she’s really lousy selfish thought as a flying to is that usually I find flights to be a pretty good time to like play

[32:29] like some mobile games i gather phone or on gaia nvidia tablet that i have just could you know I but I this entire flight i’m on a call like I’m on duty so

[32:39] there’s yeah no there’s no personal entertainment that way so it’s no I was just gonna say on my flight they were screening Superman movie the new

[32:51] Superman movie at that time and it wasn’t it on DVD yet I’m it was like first into the flights i guess for some reason and i was like i really want to

[32:59] watch this i got a deal is my kids but i really want to watch it yeah there’s no babies of it would stop just cuz i saw the ending is like I’m not gonna bother

[33:10] give it clown nothing to it how’d this guy get here what does I know I just gave up yeah yes that that’s the flight story

[33:21] will see you know keep you guys posted on returns back but got ya up to him when one down one to go so far wonderful six hours though six hours has six our

[33:37] man just done if he he if he would just play a video game it would it would all be better I think you should if it does happen just a little clip just record a

[33:51] little clip uh this is my life in a plane because my son right now you’ll just like record that Ike hold it against them in future like that’s what

[34:03] you did to me this is this what you did do a whole flight of people I want your place don’t max in the other elements in the good way and yeah with that um I
