[0:00] oh and other stuff all right see you next week bye all right the that sounded refreshing was very

[0:10] it’s a beer commercial now I love it

[0:19] yeah the adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep it is time for new dad gaming a show about gaming fatherhood and new dads figuring out their gaming

[0:28] lives my name is and I have a one-year-old my name is Gavin I have a 10-month old and I’m Jeff I have a 5-year-old and a three-year-old

[0:38] gentlemen welcome again yay hello are we are we keeping you from something Jeff that sounded

[0:47] very we gotta get do this I gotta get back to work no I’m this is this is work this is left E3 it

[0:58] happened is a bit more exciting than I anticipated and I I I just found myself watching the news I don’t and just trying to find like what the latest

[1:06] release was trying to watch the trailer did you guys find like a similar outset throughout the week yeah I didn’t really watch any of the live streams like I

[1:15] checked into a couple of them here and there um but for the most part it was just kind of like I’d wait for the dust to settle and then see what was there

[1:26] also like my Twitter feed has a lot of uh people who are either part of or very enthusiastic about game development um so that was a pretty steady News stream

[1:38] for me so I just kind of let Twitter digest everything and then then I go to a few blogs and see what was there but yeah for the most part it was just kind

[1:46] of uh Pleasant to see some some interesting new IPS but also like some iterations some new stuff but yeah yeah I had a um I had a stream running but it

[1:59] was from um some YouTubers that were doing reactions as it was happening so I kind of got theirs as along with the news so that was kind of neat I like a

[2:09] liveaction fleshy Twitter with more with more characters yeah yeah that was good though yeah the so us dads three had discussed trying to

[2:24] just go through the list of all the stuff that had been announced it’s not even all the stuff this is just what we had captured

[2:31] through two week in a list and should a dad find any of these things interesting from a dad perspective then they’ll say as much and

[2:41] we’ll see kind of where that goes I’ll say I’ll say this like it is like it’s just floating on a sea of like look at all of these things I won’t be able to

[2:49] play yeah these all look amazing I don’t get to play any of them it’s like looking at my Netflix queue oh je it’s just like here’s all the this stuff that

[3:01] I find interesting in this immense library that they have available for me and even though I’ve bookmarked them all and put them in a nice little list I am

[3:10] never getting through this that’s why it’s like a sense of relief when they uh they show like the release date of like 2017 and like fall 2017 I’m like yes

[3:19] there’s time I don’t have to like run out and get it I love that optimism as if you’re going to have time at that point well yeah 2017 clearly I can block

[3:29] it out they’ll be like halfway through Witcher that’s right they’ll still be on Witcher let’s be let’s be honest it’s like as soon as you get to the end they

[3:37] just shovel another batch of DLC on you you’re never going to be done no like the next one has like 30 hours I don’t there’s no way yeah plus when they

[3:45] released that DLC for The Witcher like were you happy terrified like happy terrified yeah sad that I won’t be able to get it because there’s no way well

[3:55] I’ll yeah okay I’ll probably get it but I don’t want to the world is beautiful but I another what 40 hours with the two dlc’s I’m trying to figure out when you

[4:06] refer to the world is beautiful whether you mean the world in the game or the world like that side that you’re game I don’t know anymore yeah which world is

[4:17] more beautiful jeff which one are you leaving what for I go into houses and just loot everything in the game he just yeah just saying reset

[4:28] reset oh oh this is is real life again isn’t it this is real life I’m a horrible neighbor there kids running around yeah I’d love to see you try to

[4:35] pull one of the lovec con quests with your wife see if that see how fast that gets rejected yeah well if I I I got you that vase you

[4:45] wanted so your wife comes home and there’s a Taxidermy unicorn in living room and you’re just sitting there with a smile

[4:51] on let’s let’s go what are you doing oh man speak as like remember when I clean the garage and you said you owe

[5:03] me so the this one’s not even on the list but speaking about hours um I’m somebody who put in over the over the course of like a year two I think it was

[5:13] like two years I put in a 100 hours into Skyrim and now they’re a hor yeah they’re as if that’s a big amount but they’re re-releasing of what I’ve put in

[5:25] with one of my many playthroughs I put way too much into that game wow to that’s perfect from your perspective then like what are you are you done like

[5:35] would you re would you dip in again on the remaster no no no no my my toes are staying near that pool it’s free like you got PC right hey you got it on PC

[5:45] right and Xbox 360 that was the first like I played it when it first came out and then I got it on PC and then played it again because I just could wait did

[5:56] you say it’s free on on PC if you have the legendary Edition it’s free or all the DLCs it’s free so might dip back in eh well I

[6:06] haven’t I didn’t I never beat it like I I spent that entire time no one’s ever seen the end state so what that’d be perfect I can go back in

[6:17] just spend the extra 10 hours in the new pretty version and wrap it up that’s man that’s genius there you go perfect this is for me it’s basically encapsulated

[6:27] all the mods that have been going on for the last to make it really really stunning they’re just like Cherry Picked best of and then put them together and

[6:35] be like okay let’s let’s send this back out again but like hearing the theme song for it and just that like roaring choir I like I was like oh I could feel

[6:47] the itched it away F start going for the buttons yeah oh that’s right I I got it on P

[6:58] don’t I got it on PS3 and it was the most horrible experience I’ve ever had yeah it was so laggy like if you got into the world a little bit like the

[7:07] architecture of the cell processor or whatever they couldn’t they couldn’t figure it out right so it was so the frame rates were like sub 20s and then

[7:16] every door I hat it going into houses and it load and you’re just sitting there like oh God I can’t do this I can’t go back in and out yeah so I’m up

[7:26] for a remaster I am interested yeah for like an optimized experience yeah because that’s the thing is like I played it on 360 and it ran pretty good

[7:36] um but when I ran it on PC it ran very well and like I could walk into a house and there was pretty well zero load time it was just like and it yeah that’s what

[7:46] I want um and it didn’t take too much horsepower CPU wise or uh graphics card wise to do that so I’m really curious to see what the this generation of consoles

[7:58] uh could do but ah from a distance probably we’ll see we’ll see yeah justes gav install it another one the uh okay let’s let’s

[8:11] start PL through this list as we say will note that one’s not even new let’s go we even started E3 2012 jeez I don’t I don’t this is

[8:23] probably going to be multi episode I don’t think there’s any chance we get through this but it’s going to be multi-month cuz my hands up for this

[8:28] first one so Dishonored Dishonored too yeah um yeah yeah okay for me interesting I didn’t get a chance to finish the first one yet still working

[8:40] on that but was curious is like I I was playing the first one and the entire time I was thinking to myself I should enjoy this a lot more than I’m enjoying

[8:47] this like I enjoyed it but it just wasn’t thrilling like I expected it to be everything is so tight like it’s such a great world but I’m like why don’t I

[8:57] like this and I’m so I don’t know if I would dip into this second maybe on a deal but so that’s it I want finish the first one before I try the second one

[9:07] yeah that’s a that’s a good bet looks like it’s much more of the same but just more intricate female lead that’s fun yeah okay now Titanfall

[9:16] to did play that was only Xbox right yeah Xbox and PC NPC um I want to try it sometime but

[9:28] like it’s not on PlayStation and playing it on PC means EA Origin and I don’t want to do that

[9:38] so yeah I I had Titanfall went through the tutorial played a match never went back to it and now and with everything else out currently I would have a hard

[9:48] time it’s just I can’t do another shooter I’m more interested in the um hawen console release that’s coming out this year well that’s been a while yeah

[9:59] yeah they I guess they went through a lot of trials and tribulations to try to get this thing ported to console but they’re doing a console release and I

[10:07] never got a chance to check it out on PC but it’d be great to try it on Console because I’d be getting into a a group of people playing it who are just as new to

[10:16] it as I am um as opposed to trying to hop onto PC now with a bunch of like multi-year veterans um so it’s like I get another window of opportunity to hop

[10:25] into multiplayer experience without just getting you know stamped as a noob and shoved off to the corner of the room so as far as ma combat goes I’m

[10:36] kind of more curious about that although Titanfall to the single player really intrigues me um I would pick it up for that yeah I’d agree with that for sure

[10:47] uh Doom DLC a bunch of Doom DLC was announced now I downloaded the single player Doom demo okay and amazing amazing m multiplayer was crap

[11:01] to me because you had the loadouts thing things didn’t work properly rocket launchers didn’t blow people up into giblets um but the single player wow

[11:10] like night day I’m interested you know the difference between the reason for that is the multiplayer was done by an outside studio right and apparently

[11:17] Bethesda since the success of the game has pulled the contract work back from them and has taken over the multiplayer because it was such a disaster yeah so

[11:28] it could be thing where in the next little while you might see um a complete overhaul of the multiplayer experience to better match the intensity of the

[11:37] single player um but that was sort of the disconnect it was like DSX all over again so yeah so you yeah so you might like the multiplayer again but yeah the

[11:47] single player is just it’s unbelievable incredible yeah I can’t wait to try it that’s on my list okay the prey or prey 2 I guess

[11:56] would be they actually call it prey 2 they just no they just went back to prey um I’m curious about it it looks neat it’s got this sort of like

[12:07] uh uh almost like this 2001 Vibe with some of the aesthetic and like this like like 2001 meets like portal Meet The Killing Floor it’s like this weird

[12:19] hybrid I’m curious about it I’m still sad to see that space Bounty Hunter prey will never happen cuz that was so cool and it looks so cool and I wanted it so

[12:30] bad but unfortunately that game is Dead um that said this new one does look really intriguing I want to it there’s enough mystery behind it that I’m

[12:42] excited for it and given the first person shooter experiences that we’ve been seeing coming out of those groups making it uh I think it could be a

[12:52] really fun experience so I’m I’m excited and plus uh Bethesda also teased uh Wolfenstein uh one coming out as well in like some

[13:02] little text thing they never really announced it but they alluded enough that I’m happy so this would be definitely for

[13:13] Jeff and I’m trying to remember Gavin if you’ve ever mentioned but Quake Quake Champions specifically and this looks like straight up Quake that could be the

[13:22] multiplayer you’ve been looking for Jeff I don’t know they made it OverWatch it’s Heroes like it’s champions see like quick Champions so

[13:32] I’m thinking they’re going the hero MOA kind of I’m not sure I could be wrong no could be very because it seemed like

[13:41] they were very um but there was different people right and they all had like ability no don’t do this to me yeah one

[13:50] thing is like there was something interesting about the Level Playing Field of everybody having the same yes yes I

[13:58] think that’s one of the stank power components of of Halo is that everybody has a Master Chief and you can have like these special abilities now but for the

[14:06] most part everybody’s Master Chief yeah um and like the original Quake um you know that sort of uh even like uh Counterstrike you know

[14:19] with the exception of the load out of your weapons everybody had the same sort of abilities like it’s not like you could pick one person it’s like oh he’s

[14:27] got green pants he can see through walls like it’s none of that fanciness but I don’t know we’ll see we’ll see yeah I’m on a maybe list this

[14:37] like La launch into this current landscape if this thing came out like last year early last year it might have been something right like hey it’s Quake

[14:45] it’s back that’s incredible but again now with Battlefront out battleborne out um OverWatch out uh there’s like there’s two or three other ones actually that

[14:54] are coming around uh God what’s the name of it there’s it’s it’s map based there’s a bunch of like jeez I can’t remember there’s two

[15:04] two or three other ones very similar to this and like now this one enters the fry seemingly having forgotten some of its roots like I what do you do man it

[15:13] does not have time I don’t know if it is evolving with the times and I’m not like I’m the crazy old man yelling at people you’re

[15:21] crazy if this is a new genre right like it’s a maybe it’s a thing well it’s a thing they have to also remember like who’s going to be buying the game and

[15:30] there are a few like holdo purists who enjoyed it back when it first came out but they are also trying to snag a new generation and that new generation is

[15:42] playing OverWatch so I think they’re trying to find a nice happy medium at the very least it seems like it has the same sense of movement and speed that

[15:52] the original one had um and hopefully there is that sense of like yeah uh because I think in the trailer there somebody picked up a dropped

[16:02] weapon yeah so I wasn’t sure if that was game play that’s probably alluding to the fact that it could be like an OverWatch

[16:11] but you can pick up a defeated player’s weapon even if it’s outside of your like yeah that’s what I want so thing is like you want to be able to get that rocket

[16:22] launcher yeah and that’s all I ask you don’t want to just be stuck with a rocket launcher too if like somebody drops a rail gun

[16:29] like well I want to shoot through walls now so I’m hoping that maybe it’s more like you pick characters based on um like maybe toughness versus agility like

[16:43] yeah because you mention and I’m like oh God it’s like the Widowmaker yeah OverWatch like that’s what it’s going to be so I’m hopeful like like you said it

[16:54] could be different hopefully hopefully hopefully they listen to us yeah they not listen listen this specifically I think it’s I think it’s a little bit on

[17:02] the price I me one of the um we we’ll save it for another show but I did buy OverWatch and uh loving it having such a great time but the price like the price

[17:12] wasn’t so bad I think it was like roughly the $40 for the basic version and you’re like okay okay I could do that like so this if this one comes out

[17:20] and it’s like 20 to $30 you know I think that’s something if some tries to come out and it’s like $60 for online dep what you’re buying it for

[17:28] too it’s coming in on Console it’s 80 bucks OverWatch on console is 80 bucks and you have another 60 bucks worth of online subscription a year to play it

[17:39] online that’s why I found it very thin right like I’m not spending $80 on what’s $40 on a PC yeah if I’m going to get it I’m going to get it on PC as well

[17:48] like it’s um but maybe they go free to play like that’s an option too like Warframe and some other ones yeah warframe’s doing really well and it’s

[17:57] free to play yeah could be that that that would be a very interest waiting and even because because at that point I could definitely

[18:05] just try it right I wouldn’t care about that there’s no way I’m dropping another 40 on another multiplayer shooter so we’ll see see okay the Mass

[18:15] Effect Andromeda I’m hooked I’m I’m I’m curious they got my attention I enjoyed the original trilogy um I’m happy to see the

[18:25] moo back in Action I love driving around in that little buggy so much um yeah no I’m I’m I’m curious uh I’m I’m happy to

[18:37] see this sort of exploration of Uncharted territories um I think it should be a lot of fun and if they keep that I think that’s the one thing about

[18:47] the first game I really liked is there was this sort of exploration aspect to it that was really good um that’s why I like driving around on the surface of

[18:56] the planets and kind of charting them and that so yeah I’m I’m I’m in yeah just thinking about the um that when you think back to the first one and that I

[19:07] like the driving element too yeah but in retrospect like it was so sparse like those Landscapes were just so Barren like it was unb yeah but they were

[19:17] Barren planets like well you know what I it’s not like the Mars has like a Jamba Juice every 20 M like it’s it’s a it’s an

[19:26] uncolonized desert planet but imagine if each time you went to one of those it was something slightly akin to No Man’s sky as far as like there a bit more

[19:36] popular like the even The Ridges or the canyons and every now and then you go to something that maybe has some trees like I I liked the bleakness of the first one

[19:44] because if you look at the statistic probability of landing on a planet with ferns it’s very very very rare most of them are giant balls of rock and gas

[19:57] that all wants to kill you and I like that hostility of it I felt that that made the universe feel like I think aesthetically they could have gone with

[20:08] more variety of like rock formations and perhaps weather effects or things like that um but I wasn’t really looking for as much in regards to

[20:17] variety of like flora fauna kind of thing like no man’s sky is cool but totally not plausible because if you just look if you’re going to go full

[20:25] space nerd like most of them are like Mercury or Mars or Venus and it’s just just so not wanting life to exist on it so the um did you ever have the cow

[20:39] steal your money in Mass Effect the cow there was one planet where there was this cowlik creature that if you turned your back on it like all of a sudden a

[20:50] bunch of inventory would be gone and then you look back around and it’s just standing there like moo and then you look away again like you more more stuff

[20:59] of your inventory just goes away mysteriously so this little Easter egg they included where it just stealing this cow that’s check some yeah there

[21:07] like Steven cow on some random Planet it was I never got to find I only found it like years later as a video but it’s absolutely that’s brilliant he looks so

[21:18] unassuming when you go back and look at him he like what I’m just a cow going on here happen but um no I I’m absolutely stoked with this I mean I think the Mass

[21:26] Effect series has had Ed me some of the most incredible gaming moments I’ve had like just absolutely love the story they were so good at that story this the

[21:35] scope of it you and I definitely agree on that I mean as it Gavin you may remember like after I beat Mass Effect 3 I called you and said can we go for a

[21:44] walk I need to talk to somebody about this ending my God I was so not distraught but it was just like I’m not I I have to talk to somebody about this

[21:54] I’m not I need to settle we went on this big walk we had this Mass Effect this so much money talk me down the type of talk you have to have with somebody

[22:04] where he’s like uh I don’t know I think my my high school sweetheart and I just broke up before going off to college I need someone to talk to like it was that

[22:12] sort of I don’t know what like Up Is Down Down is up I don’t I just let’s just go for a walk feel so empty what do I do yeah I got I got thrown for a loop

[22:23] cuz that uh yeah that Ser was just fantastic so super stoked for this one m really pretty too like it looks like they’re really up and it was already a

[22:32] really good looking series like it was good at raising the bar in regards to that Fidelity and I’m happy to see that they’re sticking to form so absolutely

[22:41] so uh Battlefield one yeah I’m I’m interested looks neat the destruction with that the Zeppelin or whatever going in and

[22:52] destroying the map as you’re playing it yeah if that if that’s more than just the cut scene if like the world that D destructible then it’s

[23:02] interesting with um like Battlefield games where a skyscraper will fall down mid match or like a tsunami will flood the map um there’s one yeah there’s like

[23:13] one map I remember in Battlefield 3 or 4 where there was like a rainstorm and like a flood happening in real time so the map went from like being very

[23:23] pedestrian heavy to very boat Canal heavy like cuz the streets just blood and then people are zipping around in dingies or fighting on the rooftops so

[23:32] it’s like this sort of the way that you have to tackle the map had to shift as you’re playing it which was really interesting remember the cheesy

[23:40] trademark it was Levolution oh yeah they made up a word I don’t know if it’s the same thing with this one but see uh I don’t know I

[23:51] think that person got fired I think they dropped that real quick or promoted Levolution high fives all around

[24:00] god um Injustice to it looks fun um I think that that Studio’s been doing great stuff with fighting games um and I’m happy to see

[24:14] like a nice variety of characters even though you know it’s DC um I’m just joking uh Supergirl looked pretty awesome in it um I don’t know but this

[24:27] armor thing but I’m sure they’ve written it into the narrative somehow but like that weird sort of like you your Armor gets better you kind of ir yourself or

[24:39] who you defeat like you get different armor yeah so I don’t know let me fight them like I think sometimes they try to

[24:50] justify the combat between these superheroes and the plausibility of it too much um which I commend them for doing uh but at times it kind of just

[25:01] takes the mysticism out of it it’s like it’s just make Bel it’s just make believe like I do understand that if Superman punched Batman in the face he

[25:11] would turn his teeth to Ash I understand that but we’re just playing a make believe make believe thing it’s just fun it’s just fun just have fun with it just

[25:20] have fun so the Star Trek VR yeah no but fun concept that would be yeah I think

[25:31] they had uh like Lavar Burton play it and stuff they had four yeah you got to watch it it’s for the previous it’s the captain I’m I’m

[25:41] I’m very sorry I don’t know these guys but it’s the captain with the beard that always like stepped over the chair oh that one must have been the

[25:48] newer one right yeah the new generation I didn’t yeah the the female Captain they got they got four like legit Star Wars

[25:57] guys they Star Wars uh oh oh god what have I done end the stream I literally heard a bunch of torches light up and pitchforks get sharpened as soon as you

[26:08] said that that is yeah CU they got Mark HL to put on the Star Trek VR set yeah was a cool time wrong uh wrong set guys je got a bunch of legit Star Trek

[26:24] characters to come in and play it and they were they were just boasting it was unbelievable it does look like it’s not my

[26:32] reservations about the game the game looks interesting I’m just not that tickled about VR yet so if I do finally get snagged and bit by the VR bed bug

[26:43] then then I that will be one I will grav gravitate towards you know if if they can make it as brutal as FTL I’d be very happy like if I have to like sit in VR

[26:55] and watch like suffocated and watch my number one next to me like if I have to sit and just watch like Riker’s pupils

[27:07] dilate as the oxygen leaves the room um then I think that would be a very interesting experience sounds like DLC or a

[27:15] mod that’s exactly it the um the FTL level of difficulty it’s like just above hardcore it’s like yeah everyone’s going to

[27:26] die horribly in the C vacuum of space where there is no such thing as love so I think some of the best times I have with this type of

[27:36] thing would certainly be well ideally in the same room with people that you know friends um or even at least friends online but if you require four your

[27:46] buddies to have four VR sets and four copies of this game like it just it starting to become a bit onerous to make this thing happen I mean

[27:54] if they do something smart where well honestly with that amount of money you could rent a convertible and like go down to like isn’t there like a Star

[28:03] Trek like theme park exhibit thing in bagas or something like that either way like you could do a onewe trip to like fa star Fleet with your friends for the

[28:16] price it would cost to have all the materials necessary to do that go to the Science Center I still think they have the teleporter where you can go in and

[28:25] race yourself and yeah yeah but no I get what you’re saying like that’s a lot of money and a lot of friends that have to have that money or dads that don’t have

[28:33] that money and their kids college fund to or or dads trying to set up times with other dads like yeah this already this like this this a this is a podcast

[28:42] online and it’s a nightmare to us three in a room imagine us trying to set up a VR attempt three for us this week or is this four well sunay doesn’t really

[28:52] count I lost count it’s blurring together it’s a lot it was a lot so and one them was Tech proms right and just like imagine the tech proms that exist

[29:01] with VR sets I’m like how I I applaud your ambition but damn you better find ways to make this easy I think it’s it’s really intriguing right now but the

[29:10] technology is still so much in its infancy that for it to become like a household thing I think it’s still a little ways

[29:18] off um you know there there’s there’s connection issues and lag issues from just picking up a controller and wanting to drive a car next to somebody else so

[29:30] sharing us holographic virtual world together that’s another of difficulty so yeah but you

[29:39] know that’s my reservations with VR rather also they also say they I don’t think it was a it was shown but one review I heard said that this would

[29:49] work very well just even on a screen so the four of us got together with laptops it sound you have to imagine they have to think through that a little bit as

[29:57] far as well all VR really is is an FPS but like you’re using the accelerometer in the helmet

[30:08] to dictate where you’re pointing your camera um that can work though like the tablet thing I think of the Jack party pack where it’s um everyone’s got like

[30:20] their phone that can play so everybody has a tablet and you each have your own like one has the Shields and one has whatever and you have to even if they

[30:28] set it up where it’s on a tablet like a second screen thing so like it’s running off the console and use a tablet as a second screen and you lift it up and you

[30:37] can look around the environment use a tablet as a window rather than the VR goggles and then you can use a tablet to tap on things in the environment move

[30:45] them around something like that would be or the or the um or the TV is your window out of the spaceship exactly and each of you is just sitting at your

[30:54] console with your phone y so that yeah there’s probably way there’s a augmented reality thing that you could do with a room full of people

[31:03] with tablets synced to a console linked to a television um but because that’s the thing is like for four different people

[31:14] to have that expensive of headgear in the same room in the same room yeah in the same room you have to you have to issue commands right you have to say hey

[31:24] Shields up or that’s hilarious to be in the basement with a VR headset on shouting out commands if you weren’t in the same room and it’s just you

[31:33] online Captain thrusters the full all right I I I knew a kid who did that back in high school he was a nice guy but rhymes with Maven

[31:46] or wasn’t that enthusiastic luckily actually no like I like this sort of this pull to back towards like playing make believe because essentially

[31:59] what VR is it’s like a socially acceptable make believe that you have very expensive Tech to justify um but in reality it’s just like

[32:09] trying to encourage people to just improvise together in a fantasy world um you know whatever kind of gets people

[32:19] doing that and having fun without any sense of like I look like an idiot because let’s face it anybody with a VR headset on their head looks like an

[32:27] idiot um they are not flattering whatsoever they’re clumb some I keep wanting googly eyes to be on the

[32:35] outside oh that should be mandatory and your kid walks in the room like while just like knee deep in one of these games yeah and you’re yelling

[32:45] stuff about Shields and looking around a [ __ ] yeah I like having my wits about me and it’s just something about this sensory

[32:54] deprivation technology that drown sounds out your surrounding world so much there just I don’t know I it’s not that I don’t trust the world around me it’s

[33:06] just I like to have an idea of what’s going on around me someone’s about to get Gavin over shoulder it could be ninjas

[33:13] at any moment any moment so yeah I just don’t know about I like trying to keep myself connected to the world that’s why I tend

[33:22] not to use my phone too much um so I think like VR is like very Beyond me because like I I find using my phone too much of a disconnect from the world

[33:34] around me so the VR thing is just like it’s so down that rabbit hole I don’t know if I’ll ever get to it so but you have a fun Star Trek game please

[33:48] deliver it let’s see if we can get it on other um media other than just like a tech demo for a headset yeah yeah yeah it’s an even better um it’s an even

[34:00] better babysitter just like slide on top of your kid he’s now in a virtual world without having to leave you lock away for a couple hours perfect perfect

[34:09] didn’t have Resident Evil loaded on beforehand God oh God no way that’s a lot of therapy bills so Resident Evil 7 um is it only VR or just that you can no

[34:21] apparently you can play it like first person style okay insane that’s a heart attack there’s no way no yeah did you see it like the person

[34:30] walking down the hallway and then the person in the VR headset like goes to follow them like no no you wouldn’t do that no that’s terrifying see you later

[34:40] yeah yeah that that’s a lot of nope um no I want to play the game but just like in that method it’s like nah that’s I when I play like Outlast or alien

[34:51] isolation with headphones on and a monitor that’s immersive enough that I get freaked out so I don’t know if I could do the full like with that because

[35:02] they they got some really nice lighting effects going on there like some really creepy stuff where you’re like oh this is the kind of dark hallway you don’t go

[35:11] down and the game’s like pushing you down it yeah no I the VR thing is interesting but I

[35:20] don’t know if I want to venture down it but I’m happy to see Resident Evil kind of shaking up their aesthetic I thought Resident Evil 6 was little too action

[35:29] movie based I’m happy that they’ve really really gone back to the horror Roots um you know I I I I think they needed to do that because that was one

[35:39] of the biggest critiques of their of the last iteration was just it felt too much like this sort of Michael Bay explosion f f Bonanza kind of thing

[35:52] it’s just like yeah it’s just it’s supposed to be scary and when you’re like you know you know surfing on a tsunami uppercutting zombie sharks it’s

[36:02] kind of like this isn’t horror anymore this is just spectacle it’s not immersive zombie sharks imagine that don’t think that game’s on the list

[36:10] zombie sharks but it should be next year at least the uh okay so there’s one called um was it skipped on a list so this is

[36:21] the Xbox and PC buy it once play it everywhere so if on PC you bought let’s say Forza Forza 7 I don’t know if it’s an actual one but we’ll

[36:32] roll with it you buy it for PC you can also play it on your Xbox and vice versa which I like because as a PC if I did decide to buy a console it would be

[36:43] cool to know that if I’m traveling with like a gaming laptop my whole Xbox well I know it’s not the whole but this let’s suspend believe for a bit much of my

[36:51] Xbox Library Travels With Me much like a steam account as opposed to oh no that’s that’s this game for that place like that console but this is this game for

[37:01] this other place and no you a not cross it and you know Microsoft why not Flex those muscles so espe considering that they have the windows platform like you

[37:13] have this whole other game space that right now is being dominated by a non Windows company um by way of steam and like goodness sake even like good old

[37:23] games and EA Origin have a larger foothold of the PC market than Microsoft does and they’re Windows like they they make the OS for PC um I think it’s a

[37:37] great idea like you kind of have it already with um PlayStation because they have the PlayStation crossplay where a lot of games you can buy and it’s

[37:45] functional on your Vita and your PlayStation like it kind of trickles down to all your devices um but to see that on a PC platform is great because

[37:56] what I like about that is a potential for backwards compatibility because a PC version um as long as your driver files

[38:05] can do it it should be able to run it it’s not like an Xbox 360 versus an Xbox One where there are certain DRM things in there as well like realistically the

[38:17] hardware of that should be able to just grab that disc and go um but there’s some software stuff and there’s probably some Hardware stuff as well that I’m

[38:25] just not an engineer so I don’t know but there’s these sort of walls that prevent you from carrying your library over with you so if it’s backwards

[38:36] compatible enough on the PC version and it’s crossplay compatible with the console then one would believe that when the next iterations of the consoles come

[38:45] you had that Library come with you and I think that could help build up brand loyalty as well um part of the reason I felt very comfortable hopping over to

[38:53] PS4 is because I knew my 360 games were useless on an Xbox One um back when I made the decision so if that was the case back then um I might

[39:05] have been able to I might have been more likely to stick with Xbox thinking well I have all these other games I can take with me and experience their new ones

[39:13] and if you think about that gaming Legacy as far as um if you do have a library and it’s stuff that you and your kid plays or something you want to kind

[39:21] of allow your kid to experience but you’re you’ve kind of stopped at a console like the PS2 to PS3 thing was great as far as continuing with it with

[39:28] um and now if they continue that lineage like you could start to amass this catalog that you know it could pass on pass on as inheritance to

[39:37] your kid but but more than that too just like it would be something that it’s a library that your kid can play because if you continue to upgrade your console

[39:44] much like a PC like you said yeah so that could be the host’s game like the host’s game library now seems more extensible kind kind of what I found is

[39:53] that um like with Super Nintendo I could have kept all those games but I could just download an emulator right because technolog Advanced so much that I could

[40:00] just emulate the games that I did have but don’t anymore and share them that way but Jee we’re talking about legal things yeah no that’s I bought them once

[40:11] uhuh um but with this one I thought like and I think a lot of people were thinking that this was kind of the White Flag like they admitted that okay Sony

[40:21] you won this round uh we’re going to make all our exclusives available on PC yeah right so why why even get an Xbox like I don’t I just think there’s gonna

[40:32] be there’s enough households where I just as there’s enough PC Gamers certainly but even even me owning a gaming PC I still look at these consoles

[40:41] with lust sometimes as far as it’s there it’s dedicated it connects to TV it’s got a bunch of other great stuff it can do but it’s a great media tool yeah and

[40:53] there’s something nice about sitting on the couch and putting your feet up and enjoying a game on like a nice large TV no drivers

[41:03] no internet like right you have the $60 a year internet that’s if you want to play online yeah maybe maybe that goes by the

[41:12] wayside maybe not I who knows but it just the same like it even I will say even as a dedicate not dedicate someone who’s getting all his

[41:21] games right now dedicated yeah sounds ter I’m dadicated to my PC oh Revolution D my high F where’s my high F when you be when you have a son

[41:33] you gain you have to step up you need a certain level of D dedication keep saying it Gavin’s going to

[41:42] melt dedication but um no like I’m I’m very interested in consoles for that reason right now like I’m so interested in VR

[41:52] I’m so interested in no man’s Sky which is also releasing on PC theoretically I could get the Oculus or the Vive and play No Man’s sky on my PC but the

[42:04] thought of how damn complicated that’s going to be and how much can go wrong by the nature of PC like it means I will buy that as a console so I think I think

[42:16] it’s a position of strength well no no I think it’s brought on by heavy competition and they’re not doing so well in this console w war but I don’t

[42:23] know that it’s so much like just White Flag as it is you know this this is the market this is the potential let’s do it well and

[42:30] it’s also they see territory that Sony can’t grab like it’s really difficult for Sony to expand into the PC market but Windows already kind of has the

[42:39] backend stuff ready so it’s it’s a lot easier for them to be like okay well we’re going to start doing gam like they experimented a bit with games for PC I

[42:47] think with like gears 2 and uh and that like years back trying to get people more into using um XBox exclusive material on a PC

[43:00] um but I don’t think the experiment really took but I think now is a better time to implement it and like that’s the thing is I I would I’m curious about the

[43:09] new Xbox especially that new slim one that got announced that looks nice to me like I do like the idea of a dedicated piece of equipment that I can hook up to

[43:18] my TV and it’s not my computer I don’t have to sit in my computer chair I can just relax on the couch plus the plus your kids right like like the p

[43:27] it’s AIT more complicated that’s Daddy’s machine and then the Xbox is the family machine in the living room yeah something kind of nice about console

[43:36] like it’s streamlined Jeff is so it’s another gamble which I commend them before right because they gambled with connect it failed they gambled with

[43:46] Xbox one being a media center and I think that’s kind of torpedoed now uh with the slim it doesn’t friends do that I have a couple friends and they have

[43:55] twins actually who just a little younger than uh our baby and because they have twins her arms are always full with babies and they use the Xbox one as a

[44:06] media center and use the voice commands on the connect like they use everything that Microsoft has tried and hasn’t quite stuck with the hardcore Community

[44:15] there’s their target their target market is a new family with twins who are like Xbox play Netflix orang just New Black episode 4 and like that’s it that’s what

[44:28] they would and it’s working they love it they absolutely love it but it’s like they’re that slight percentage of it working and actually taking because like

[44:39] the the material works it’s just the seems like the audience isn’t there enough for their shareholders to be happy

[44:50] so but it exists there’s people who like that stuff okay we’re actually almost through the list we’re doing pretty pretty good

[44:58] uh game called for Honor oh that melee combat one by Ubisoft yeah with knights running around that looks interesting it’s like Knights

[45:07] and Vikings and Samurai but it’s just like man with all the games like God like it’s again another online thing you have to learn

[45:16] yeah another game it’s just and in a genre that’s similar to some of the other ones as far as it it’s certainly different in that it’s Knights it’s four

[45:25] a team of four it’s feudal shivalry that one that came out by Tor Banner Studios of a little while back um they’ve actually moved on to a

[45:35] new multiplayer one with um like Mages and wizards and stuff fighting each other and it looks pretty cool um but yeah shivalry was a

[45:44] firsters uh melee medieval combat um they also had like bows and crossbows and stuff but it was mostly just like dismembering each other with axes and

[45:53] swords um but it has existed before but not to not in like a third person space and not as quite as stylized as as we’re seeing in for Honor but um yeah but a

[46:06] lot of it’s the same formula just as far as like capture this flag and then go to this other place and like get this Zone it’s just it it just feels really

[46:14] saturated right now with this stuff yeah it’s all about just the main mechanic is you and your team overpower the other team and capture their territory it’s

[46:23] that’s it like it’s very very basic um there’s not a lot of like asymmetrical combat going on it’s not like you have like evolve looked really

[46:36] interesting to me because it was one being hunted by four except that one was more powerful than the four um or like with the Alien versus Predator game that

[46:45] came out years ago the multiplayer on it was actually kind of intriguing because you had three different species who all played different mechanics wise um and

[46:55] different game modes that would play to that uh and one of the really interesting one was uh called infestation where like you would have a

[47:03] group of Marines in one alien and then that every time that person as an alien would kill a marine they would turn into an alien on their respawn until

[47:13] eventually there was one Marine standing it was such a good game and yeah there’s like or like there was like a predator one where everybody got turns being the

[47:22] predator and in order to be the predator in the next round you had to take them out so like that sort of sense and that’s something I wish I could seeing

[47:31] more right now because right now it’s all about team mechanics and very unique character loadouts and builds and styles but that sense of

[47:40] like how do we uh how does this team versus that team how are these teams so different but how

[47:50] are they going to one up each other in combat and there’s not enough of that asymmetry going on it’s just very much like two evenly matched teams and it’s

[47:59] very much like rocket league in the sense of got to score a goal you’re all the same just score a goal um so yeah I don’t know

[48:09] like we’ll see but yeah that’s I do agree it does feel a little tired right now in that sense and just like and just like Quake again it feels like if it was

[48:17] launched two years ago it’d be pretty fresh like it just be this is a pretty interesting take on the multiplayer space but at the moment like man we’re

[48:26] being bombarded with this yeah not you know you can’t you can’t sit down and play this with your kid so it’s like it’s very much just gonna be a

[48:35] dad solo game yeah yeah and I just honestly I’m kind of they don’t intrigue me as much as I used to because like the

[48:46] videos always make the experience look better than it actually is there’s a lot of times where I

[48:55] see I I experience a better or I experience it not as enjoyable of an interaction with people I’m playing with online it’s just like look at division

[49:05] remember when that came out and they showed a trailer and people were like yeah let’s go we’ll line up at that door and then you go through I’m like yo yeah

[49:12] that’s what people do on the internet one guy’s probably like spinning around you like firing up in air yeah it’s it’s not as well composed no yeah well

[49:25] composed So speaking of that next one is uh ghosts Recon wildlands which I’m done with Tom Clancy I’m done it’s a tactical so it’s a one

[49:36] player thing but apparently your buddies can join in you know like all of the buddy all all of us dads who have tons of buddies online and you play levels

[49:45] and you’re going against drug kingpins it’s all the same to me now I don’t know it’s just too the world is Je like Jeff’s attitude is like

[49:54] dropping he started with so much yeah it’s all the fpss right and they all like very similar very or they’re like rebooting so quickly now it’s like

[50:05] I know they do an annual thing but it seems like now there’s like six seven of them that all do an annual thing so there’s like the Call of Duties and the

[50:12] ghost Recons and Call of Duty ghosts and yeah let uh I think we can move on for that one so the here’s one for you this this is a good one for kids Just Dance

[50:23] they launched a new one yeah another one like how do you how do you iterate on something that’s about are just new song libraries that’s

[50:34] all really is do they not give you that ability to purchase that they do by way of buying a new game like make it like Guitar Hero where they just put up songs

[50:45] new dances maybe like perhaps no sport okay uh South Park and the jeez what what was the title of it it’s a

[50:57] super it’s a it’s another RPG and it’s a rip on the superhero genre yeah I can’t remember the title The fractured fractured hole oh

[51:06] probably that sounds about right I think fractured butt hole or like the fractured butt hole oh but okay did it s like I never even

[51:17] connected that dot until I said it out loud I’m like oh oh I see what you did no made me look like an idiot darn it I’m out of South Park I don’t know

[51:30] that’s that’s a different Target I think yeah I start Play really good so I was I had it I I was been I had played a little bit of it I didn’t haven’t really

[51:39] gone back I keep every now and then I think of it like I might be kind of fun to do it but there’s just some elements where it’s

[51:46] just they’re so clever and sometimes then there’s other parts where you can literally just go to the washroom and every toilet you found and you have to

[51:52] mash a button to make it happen and it’s just like I just just I’m dealing on this dealing with

[52:02] this stuff on the daily man I don’t know if I want to game with it as well but it it it is it’s an incredible amount of depth it’s actually like a surprisingly

[52:09] good RPG as far as those mechanics so I don’t in some ways I might proceed through it we’ll see um Watch Dogs 2 lies wow initial okay yeah see this we

[52:24] losing we are losing you quickly yeah Jeff’s done Watch Dogs the original they showed off this amazing trailer all the stuff you

[52:31] can do when it launched it was not that it was broken it looked awful or at least worse and the graphics got nerfed too like there was all

[52:42] this like Apparently one person went into the back folders of the game and found all the proper resolution textures God that’s even worse

[52:53] existed but they just decided for the sake of the build functioning better that they would just knock the tech they just nerfed all the textures but they

[53:01] didn’t delete the old files oh my God that’s like seeing all like the mods for Skyrim and it’s like look it’s like real life but it runs like 10 frames a second

[53:12] right yeah it’s like anyway for watch do I believe nothing they say yeah it’ll be it’ll be an interesting launch because like the that

[53:22] that was very public like that that backlash that if any think that is like the the biggest e well in recent memory that has

[53:33] to be the biggest E3 uh lie controversy we’ve seen like of note right yeah it’s a combination of that and I think alien colonial Marines

[53:44] that one had a huge stink behind it too because when it came out everybody’s like this is not what you showed at E3 so it’ll be so interesting to see

[53:53] what they do to it because if they don’t know that that’s the case well they’re going to read it online they’re going to see the reactions everybody’s going to

[54:00] basically be Jeff and worse I don’t know if they care it seems like they just I’m I’m I’m hoping they’re not lies if they’re not lies it

[54:09] will be a very fun game um I’m happy it’s not a brooding white dude in a trench coat like it’s colorful right that’s at least that up the protagonist

[54:19] looks cool to me and I like this sort of activist thing that they got going like narratively it looks more intriguing than a lot one the last one was just

[54:28] like a little bit too Neo with an iPhone yeah um and uh yeah I think with this one it’s yeah but that said like I don’t

[54:42] know you know and it’s also it’s another open world game and like yes they’re fun but I don’t want to make my own adventure just give me an

[54:52] adventure give me a tight Story godamn please exactly yeah all right so the okay Jeff if nothing gets

[55:01] you gwent gwent a stand long game you have to play gwent got him we got him he’s happy happening you got him with the

[55:11] Witcher doesn’t matter it’s a card game card game and Witcher it’s amaz big smile on his face oh it’s awesome it’s your Hearthstone it’s it will take your

[55:21] life away it’s fun it’s fun but again like that’s a selling Point yeah it’ll take your life away no I find it very I don’t know it in the game it was a good

[55:31] distraction just for like a fun I don’t want to fight monsters anymore and play some cards and you go around collecting cards whatever and I’ve never really

[55:40] been a card guy like I wasn’t really into Hearthstone I it was okay um but this one I really enjoyed and I’m not sure what platforms are launching on but

[55:50] it better have an iOS like mobile yeah it’ be so foolish if it’s not on iOS yeah it’s built for that it has to be so that y I’m

[56:03] back I know I kind of drop it there there’s more there’s more to talk about but uh’s happy so let’s end on a happy CH there’s all of the Microsoft

[56:13] conference and all the PlayStation one but I think we’ll save that plus whatever comes out I think this thing is wrapping up today and tomorrow however I

[56:20] would like to quickly so two two things on the beer so firstly I’d like to see what were your beer choices for the week and maybe Jeff is maybe Jeff’s beer is

[56:29] bad and he’s just been sipping on awful ale this whole time and just ruining his mood you know what it’s ruining my mood because I already drank my

[56:39] beer and I’m out so we were supposed to do this podcast a couple days ago I couldn’t hold out so so we so you’ve been moving further and further away

[56:47] from your beer yes okay but this one’s a really good one again it’s like a it’s a local one uh GF Ontario if anybody’s familiar called prison break pser really

[56:58] good one really hoppy say isn’t that super hoppy um it’s not super hoppy but it’s it’s got some got some kick taste to it like you need to like it but you

[57:09] know it’s a good one you need I’ll get it again need to like it you need to like can yeah you need to like it have to like

[57:18] it um I had a beer um but I’m totally blanking on the name of it now not the one I just had that was just a standard logger I kick it around um but uh I had

[57:32] one on the Sunday or no Monday and uh it got consumed while we were having technical difficulties uh it was hoppy it was good

[57:42] I will um it was a ale oh the the hoppy the hoppy good beer yeah cool uh s City I think was the name of the brewery okay and it was their uh Gold Beach session I

[57:55] think it was called uh local beer out of um ah like it’s small Ontario Town um but yeah it was good I liked it I I’ll

[58:06] have more information about it next week this week I was just drinking uh uh like some sing

[58:14] yeah you said yours um you said yours is from galf yeah yeah yeah mine’s from gal nice good go go so this is uh Wellington oh I oh yeah well yeah except

[58:27] now this one in particular so this is the Wellington Spa the special paleo of their beers this is my favorite of the one that they do just it is an

[58:38] incredibly tasty ale like it is there’s so much to it without being overbearing or you you could have a couple of these but it’s that perfect mix thing where

[58:47] it’s like you’re not going to kill yourself if you have more than one but you could appreciate it if you only had one well there’s some people much like

[58:54] Jeff or sorry Gavin just said like a session a like you have one of them and you appreciate it and then you go back to like San and have like a nice easy

[59:03] beer uh you could have a couple of these but at the same time if you had one you’d be happy and satisfied the best part too is like it’s what my dad

[59:12] laments about this is that like Wellington is named for the Duke of Wellington like this Old English dude but instead they decided to go with the

[59:20] Wellington boot Y which because I understand it’s more marketable certainly than some old British Lord or British Duke TR were the Wellington

[59:30] Boots not named after the Duke of Wellington think so I wonder I wonder I don’t know oh um I will make a quick note about beer last week I got to try

[59:42] the vanilla porter on tap um on tap it was really good it was a little more deserty than I usually like but uh I really enjoyed it but it was definitely

[59:53] for me like a you have one and you move on to something else but I was at a bar the other night and um they had it on tap so I’m like oh there it is let’s

[1:00:04] give this a try as per Trevor’s recommendation and yeah it was tasty it was good Hardy working look at that man piece by

[1:00:11] piece those stocks in uh mil Street are going to finally pay off you mean the empties you have in the garage yeah yeah collector’s items once

[1:00:21] this thing blows up all right so a new dad challenge for next week this is a challenge for you both and I’m not sure how it’s going to

[1:00:30] turn out so so this we’re going to go on a journey together you might have noticed that this year a bunch of places have introduced what they’re calling

[1:00:40] hard root beer oh I’ve already had one oh God n don’t do it come on oh you got to do it on air just the same try a different one and see if it’s

[1:00:50] salvageable and Jeff I want you to get one too and on air we’re going to try hard root beer I love root beer like I’m going beer

[1:01:02] cocktail um with like some rum because that was really the thing I like I’ll drinking it I’m like I could do this with like a better root beer as a base

[1:01:12] so I will make a root beer drink and if it turns out good I will share the recipe okay I don’t know that feels like kind of a cop out I want you to try this

[1:01:21] stuff cuz it ends up being garbage and the three of us hate it then we can just write it off but I already know I saw like I saw a tweet today and apparently

[1:01:30] Mill Street even has a hard root beer that’s the one I tried you tried that oh man you tried mil Street and it was bad it was just it was it wasn’t bad like it

[1:01:41] was tasty but it just tastes like root beer yeah exactly so you have root beer and you’re getting drunk it’s perfect everybody

[1:01:49] wins that’s some ice cream in there for a nice root beer float you’re laughing that’s a hangover drink it cold or is it warm like

[1:01:58] A&W you know how they serve it warm you’re like oh God this is even more horrible I think it’s supposed to be

[1:02:05] cold all right but Belly Up Jens this is happening I want to see this so we know not to try apparently the Mill Street one is bad which I’m sad

[1:02:14] to hear I could be wrong maybe I’m mistaken and I tried any other one it’s just hard I’m pretty sure that we tried the Mill Street one and it was like it

[1:02:20] wasn’t bad it was tasted like really good root beer but kind of reminded me of like the same reason drink a smear off you know it’s like you it’s the type
