[0:00] they must just be grinding it right like they’re probably just grinding it all day it’s summer right these kids are like there’s nothing to do see if it’s a

[0:08] kid i would feel better but there’s just some part of me that feels like it’s a fedora like 30 year old just sitting there having the time of

[0:15] his life like it’s more of my concerns like little kids having trying to have some fun and these adults just like smoking them yes

[0:24] back in my day i used to play pokemon and now i’m gonna show you yeah the best part is when they were a kid

[0:32] they probably hated the gym masters it’s like oh these guys are evil like yeah i’m just trying to do it and they have become gym masters they are they are the

[0:42] evil circle now yeah that’s what the game is it’s just poke kids that turn into poke adults hate the world and then beat poca kids

[0:53] at their game yeah oh and uh yeah but again it’s addictive and like i saw pictures of the cn tower uh launch party in toronto yeah it was

[1:04] nuts it was crazy yeah that was so well let’s save some of that we’ll get into that i think i think we literally could just like probably rant about pokemon go

[1:12] and it’s like yeah it is gaming right now like it is the only thing happening in gaming so it’s fine it’s topical i think gavin’s not around

[1:20] to spoil our funds

[1:30] the adult beverages are poor the kids are asleep it is time for new dad gaming a show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives

[1:38] my name is trevor and i have a one-year-old uh i’m sick just stopped good

[1:48] i’m sick yeah i hi i’m sick i’m jeff i have a six-year-old and a three-year-old that probably

[1:56] infected me that’s the reason and more to the point we’re recording this um a day later than we usually do

[2:03] because my household is sick baby baby came home with what we thought was like this might

[2:11] turn into a fever yeah my wife proved it was definitely going to be a fever by getting a hell of a fever herself and then baby woke up sick the next day too

[2:19] so it’s i mean it’s something it’s bad enough when the kid if they go to daycare or school

[2:25] guaranteed every three weeks they’re going to be sick yeah it’s bad though when it evolves and attacks that adults it’s just

[2:34] that’s cruel that’s not fair and it hits harder right like your recovery time is not the same as when you’re a young lad you’re just

[2:44] down for the count and you just don’t want to do anything yeah you are not that elastic like it hurts you so much more yeah and you’re already like

[2:52] relatively sleep deprived guaranteed so yeah and what’s what’s the kid’s responsibility what’s he gonna miss

[3:00] just go to sleep lie there rest but no when they get sick they want to do things it’s not it’s uh my kids will just start to run

[3:09] around they might be delirious maybe that’s it they’re just so feverish that they’ve given up yeah they’ve lost all the grip on

[3:17] reality and they’re running around but oh man now the um cheese is just so sick the um

[3:29] it must be airborne though because you gave it to me there’s there’s weird i don’t know you sent it through what are we what are we like a good hour

[3:36] and a half drive one another i’m like oh that sucks you guys are all sick that sucks in the summer oh god now i’m sick

[3:46] it’s karma karma did it yeah i’m telling you once that yeah once that tylenol kicks in though you’re right like they’re just it’s as if they’re not sick

[3:53] but you are super sick because of them just i assume i’m going to get sick now like

[4:00] it’s yeah it’s just a matter of time you should have a timer like a countdown clock i i should have a really great time tonight because like this is it

[4:08] i’m going to feel terrible really soon yeah just do your immune system in and get it done and over so to like stay up really late uh you know drink

[4:16] um just lower it like maybe run a lot i don’t know run oh man i went to the gym today too [ __ ]

[4:24] i’m already weakened so weak oh great so how was your week in fatherhood and gaming besides the obviously besides the current sickness

[4:33] how was that yeah besides the current sickness um it was great we had a uh we went over to a friend’s who has a pool they have a pool they had a pool party

[4:43] i believe you mean bestest of friends best friends yes i love people that have pools thanks friend

[4:50] but no they had a great pool party it was awesome weather uh super sunny and hot so we spent all the day like uh probably six hours in that pool so

[5:00] the kids were like they might have shrunk a couple inches when they got out picked up like 10 pounds in waterlogging

[5:09] yeah they they were in there all day and uh we had a good time so um and the best part was when they got home they went straight to bed not a peep out of them

[5:19] so uh my wife and i got to enjoy like just a movie uh on the tv without them trying to sneak downstairs and interrupt us and it’s an actual an actual movie

[5:29] yeah like a nice well um an adult movie not the adult adults but something with swearing in it uh maybe a little you know just action

[5:40] really are you like were you on guard as soon as they swore you’re like oh yeah well you are you are you always

[5:46] keep your ear tuned to the stairs you’re like oh no i heard a creek in the stairs they’re coming down but uh no it was good it was a um it was

[5:55] a good time in terms of gaming uh it’ll just be pokemon i am addicted to it so i haven’t played anything else it started

[6:07] i mean your kid is at least old enough that you can kind of pin it on him yeah i don’t want i don’t want to play this it’s just i got it right i got to evolve

[6:13] for my kids yeah but when i’m out there you know by myself at night it’s a little different when it’s two in the morning

[6:21] the only time when the servers aren’t overloaded uh i try to explain myself yeah that’s the other problem is that when the servers

[6:28] are overloaded i look at my playstation i’m like no i don’t i don’t want to play anything right now with substance i just kind of

[6:35] like i just want to catch some pokemon uh what can you say someone toss around some poke balls and uh yeah get myself another rat hat or

[6:45] not what what

[6:51] i don’t know i’m not sure but man i think it’s just phenomenal the um yeah i want us to get into a whole um pokemon discussion because it’s that it

[7:00] is gaming right now the only thing going on with gaming is pokemon go and

[7:06] man and it’s so fantastic just as far as like the breadth that it covers like it’s just kids it’s adults it’s it’s incredible so i want us to get into

[7:14] it i don’t think i want to cover from the previous week was my wife and i finished fire watch nice

[7:21] it’s fantastic and i’m telling you like that was the she stayed interested in it the whole time like we really enjoyed the

[7:27] experience i’ll say it was probably like it was a perfect first entry for us to try to play a game together okay which i was

[7:35] i was worried about when i because i hadn’t played it before so i didn’t know and if it sucked it’s like so this is games

[7:43] games are still awful why did you try to bring me into this not a good first impression there yeah but um it was it was great i mean the the a couple of the

[7:52] story mystery pieces started to fall and we’re both like what the what what is it what is this what’s happening what’s going on what’s that let’s move over

[7:58] there and you know it’s pretty it’s pretty quick game too so i think it’s like i think we we didn’t really putts around

[8:04] very much so it’s like a six hour investment and yeah we were invested we had a great

[8:09] time with it that was that was a great experience and i think now if we i was to suggest something like a

[8:15] telltale game or something of the sibling vein i think like kind of started on that path

[8:23] i had hinted like maybe she would like pokemon go bit of a tough sell you’re kind of cute he’d catch the cute ones

[8:33] look at the little creature oh man just like the like when foursquare was much more prominent going way back yeah

[8:43] oh four four square but when it was heavy into its uh location like the check-in thing mirrors everything else

[8:52] like i thought that was great like i really did enjoy it because it’s it’s so passive you’re waiting in line at uh tim hortons or starbucks

[8:59] you might as well check in and you see other people check in oh i could become mayor um anytime you’re flying it was really

[9:05] cool to check in at that airport after you’ve flown for like six eight hours yeah and get it so like that the type of thing where it’s like you’re kind of

[9:13] stopped anyways and you’re out about in the world and you get this like small little touch point to have interaction that also just

[9:20] includes other people without being full on like multiplayer like it’s fantastic so that man pokemon go

[9:27] so perfectly seems to fill that like you’re just you’re over in the park and you have to wait like 10 minutes because for somebody to come back or like if

[9:34] carolina and uh little guy go into a place i’m stuck there for five minutes perfect time to time just grab me some pokemon let’s get going

[9:45] yeah but you know walk me through your week how was your week because it’s now officially launched in canada yeah so that was a problem because when they

[9:52] finally did that so there’s the first issue it’s as it’s official yeah see i was a good you know what it was seven days or something it

[10:02] was a week or something ahead of schedule in the u.s and canada launched and the servers were toast like you couldn’t

[10:10] get on when they launched for a good few hours and i think some hacking group tried to attack them too so that didn’t help things

[10:19] um so i was kind of stuck um i was into my pokemon i was i was ready to go outside we have been a mention we have been on more family

[10:28] walks like the past two days like at the kid’s insistence or your own it’s not mine good i’m glad you’re big enough to admit

[10:38] that yeah they’re kids yeah they they want to go out and catch it but they’re not so like they’ll do

[10:45] whatever like if it gets them outside to a playground uh their game but i’ll be like no no let’s go let’s go a different route and see what pokemon are down here

[10:55] i saw some leaves fluttering on the map let’s go down these two streets we’ve never been before yeah and like i said in the previous episode i’ve never

[11:03] played a pokemon game so to have this thing kind of uh grab a hold of me and then um

[11:12] you treat creatures that you’ve seen as like a personal vendetta if you don’t capture them you’re like okay i need to catch that squirrel because he got away

[11:19] with me like i don’t know where he’s hiding but i need to catch him i saw him he’s not there and the most um like it’s such a

[11:27] successful launch for a game that has a lot of bugs it does have a lot of bugs and a lot of server crashes

[11:35] and whoa a wild gavin appeared get him get him gavin appeared i just crashed nice the

[11:44] jeez it should be man at the top we didn’t even address your absence we kind of just got so into it with like great we could talk about pokemon with

[11:52] reckless abandon because gavin saw here he was here in spirit he was waiting just waiting i was waiting like pokemon you’re all into pokeballs nice

[12:03] dear gavin regale us with stories of it should be mentioned so father gavin has been fighting the good fight with sleep training this week

[12:11] wasn’t sure if he was going to make it on so dear gavin how has sleep training with a little baby been going for you

[12:23] really well it’s good yeah we’re like uh yeah really it all goes on like it’s mama’s the one who’s been really

[12:32] doing it um like we got a good schedule kind of together we had a pretty solid bedtime routine so

[12:40] she already knew the end of the day really the only thing we were removing from the equation was bobbing her to sleep you know and like rocking her to

[12:47] sleep and stuff um so yeah no it’s uh uh

[12:53] one of the first nights it took about maybe 40 minutes um last night it took about 10 and tonight it took a five

[13:04] night so so what’s what’s the method you’re following with it uh

[13:10] basically go through a regular bedtime routine uh then we lie or down um then uh checking in on like different time intervals so like every two minutes

[13:19] and then every five minutes and then every 10 minutes or like i think there’s a seven minute one tucked in there too um so just sort of increasing the

[13:26] intervals of time uh going in and just kind of shush her and console her um layer back down uh get her snuggled

[13:34] with her favorite stuffy and uh and just sort of keep doing that until the time intervals space out enough um and then she just sort of drifts off on her own

[13:43] naps are still a little bit tough because um you know she’s not end of day tired yet but kids are notorious for fighting naps

[13:51] so i’m not too concerned about that and uh i think the only real wrench in the works is that like our dog howls when she cries so

[13:58] um when like the last few nights like i’ll take him out for a big walk and that gets him out of the house so

[14:05] that way as the baby sort of you know crying it out um although it hasn’t been too too bad but still it’s just easier with the dog out of the picture because

[14:13] he makes a god awful sound um yeah i like that the dog has empathy for the baby yeah like he’s trying to help either that or he hates the sound

[14:23] and he’s mad shut up or he feels like he’s getting all the attention so if he cries louder um

[14:32] but no it’s it’s been a uh it’s been going really really well um definitely have to it’s

[14:39] but it’s going well because of the wonderful job mama did i was just running support um we did have a little bit of uh upset

[14:48] tummy with her one night um but i’m not sure if that was related to the stress of the sleeping or the the sleep training or whether it was just

[14:58] something else you know babies baby barf all the time um but yeah uh

[15:07] that’s it i wanted to catch up on the whole like my week okay so it’s been baby training stuff uh we had an anniversary this week

[15:14] which was great we went for a really really fancy dinner uh which is fantastic uh one of those dinners where you just uh

[15:21] you don’t look at the price your wallet’s gonna get uppercut at the end of the night but it doesn’t matter because it’s

[15:27] just an experience and a half we don’t really do gifts we just go out for one really awesome dinner at a really good restaurant that we’d like and we’ve been

[15:35] going to for years you know it’s the type of place where you know there’s at least a couple dishes with

[15:40] foie gras and you know every other dish probably has some truffle in there somewhere one of those kind of jobs uh really really

[15:47] good spot though and uh yes we did that and i beat doom uh the other night so that was fantastic everything with that game is amazing

[15:56] even the end credits the end credits have this motion graphics sequence that i’ve never really seen before and it’s just like the end credits to

[16:04] like a movie where like you see all the characters coming back and like kind of the end credits like a marvel movie where they kind of recap all the

[16:11] awesomeness that you just experienced and it makes you leave the theater feeling like yeah that was good they did that for a video game and it was so nice

[16:18] because like the weapon designer gets a shout out and you see like all the weapons laid out on the floor and they’re like most pristine look

[16:26] um the animators get a shout out for like all those cool glory kill animations and stuff it’s just yeah it was a really good game solid boss battle

[16:34] at the end i can’t recommend it enough it was really really fun i loved it um i’m having trouble playing other games now because i went back into like

[16:42] in games i like like i went back to fallout after and i’m like oh considerably less demons glory kills

[16:53] you know and i feel i feel fine comparing those two because they’re both bethesda so bethesda you trumped yourself

[16:59] by the uh that’s right the dog walks our park is littered with pokemon go players so it’s gonna say while you’re out walking

[17:06] the dog that is ideal pokemon go time you could be you could be up to your eyeballs and uh rattatas at this point trevor

[17:15] no

[17:21] and then gavin left the podcast that’s the last we ever saw with a wonderful burn like that no

[17:31] yeah now we were just starting to get into it because the gavin i don’t know if you saw some of the hubbub around the

[17:38] launch party down at cn tower or the guy that jumped down on the subway track so he could catch a pokemon i didn’t hear that one i saw the big hullabaloo at cn

[17:47] tower and stuff and i’ve been keeping up with all the crazy news but it’s kind of hard to keep up with the crazy news because there’s just

[17:55] a tsunami of it but i did not hear that a man jumped down onto a subway track to catch probably like

[18:03] one of the sleepy one i hope it was worth it because he was just like a rat like i don’t understand because like with

[18:12] like as if like that like three like one meter of movement would have been the difference between catching this thing

[18:19] or not just sounds like i know that there’s a photo of it and everything he’s definitely just

[18:24] looking down the tracks like with his phone out it’s it i’m i’m walking around every time i see anybody

[18:32] standing on the street corner like looking at their phone there’s just some part of me that’s like are you are you playing because there’s a

[18:39] there’s this one woman there’s there’s a very very active gym near my house like just down which is a shame i’m just out of range so i’d have to leave my

[18:47] house but it’s swapping like every like 10 minutes it’s a different team and this this woman she had to be like

[18:56] 60s 70s and she stops so specifically right near this gym and she’s faces it faces it where it is and she pulls it

[19:04] out her phone she’s holding it up like that i’m just like yeah man lady are you playing are you doing this are you playing

[19:10] are you in on this are you a pokemon mother-daughter uh combo out tonight and uh they’re in their pajamas

[19:21] just walking down the street in their pajamas playing pokemon go right on yonge street just like one of them care

[19:31] and they weren’t clean pajamas like these were left in like these were weak old pajamas that’s the

[19:42] i think it’s been one of the i almost find it the bizarre how much negativity has been surrounding it too because yeah i understand if it’s not

[19:50] your thing fine it’s kind and it’s always fun to poke a couple jokes a couple of like barbs at the latest greatest most um popular

[19:58] things certainly but like i mean the there’s a i’ve so many people on my facebook had posted something to the effect of like oh i got adult stuff

[20:06] to do i can’t play this game sure i guess are you gonna go watch orange is the new black like is that you know what i mean like

[20:15] the same the same type of folk who would post like i love this show and i’ve watched the entire thing or i binged on it yeah

[20:21] and like is that adult like that that’s that’s what’s so adult that you can’t just let some people have some fun or enjoy yeah it’s not like they’re out

[20:27] like cleaning laundry at the riverside by hand like like

[20:34] you know it’s not like you’re not doing it because you have more chores in all these pokemon players like

[20:40] you if it’s not your cup of tea then that’s fine like my one friend made a really valid argument because he’s a big

[20:49] trekkie and he was like i could make fun of all these people like in their mid-30s going out and

[20:57] playing this child’s game blah blah blah but i have a i have three starfleet uniforms in my closet so

[21:06] like i’m i’m in no position to ridicule and that’s the things like we all have that thing the one thing that i like my only

[21:14] kind of the only absurdity i see in it is not the the age thing or it’s like oh you got

[21:22] better things to do it’s the people who are like so like they can’t compartmentalize their brain enough

[21:30] to understand that it is it’s just an activity you know don’t drive your car into a cop car

[21:38] don’t go onto the subway tracks you know don’t walk in to a highway like don’t try to walk into a post like i know a guy who who almost tripped on a homeless

[21:50] person going down a dark alley to hunt a pokemon like it’s these that’s the time where i’m like okay

[22:00] now you’ve you’ve kind of gotten a little too invested and it’s like you might want to step back it’s not that you can’t be

[22:06] playing it but like especially the adult players out there it’s like okay if you want to play it play it yeah that’s fine but you

[22:13] can’t you’re not supposed to also check your common sense and like adult logic centers at the door to play

[22:21] it like you can still maintain those survival skills like avoiding danger and enjoy this game they’re not mutually exclusive

[22:32] yeah i think um i talked some of that up just to some foolishness and some silliness interesting enough like toronto i don’t

[22:38] know if similar things exist in other cities but toronto had snuck in a new law where you can’t be checking like texting on

[22:46] your phone as you cross the street like that that’s actually a fine you can get now really yeah like they snuck it in on the

[22:53] attached to another bill i didn’t uh make it past though that one didn’t get through okay because otherwise like thinking now pokemon go would be such a

[23:01] boon for the city coffers just thousands of dollars like rolling in but i think some of it i chalk up to yeah like just foolishness and silliness

[23:11] and you know to some regard i think even texting you’ll see that same type of thing oh yeah i’d agree with you though with um

[23:17] the concept of the adult driving around in his car zip around to all the different stops and like take

[23:24] that really seriously i think in some ways that kind of it’s not in the spirit yeah of the game necessarily that’s a bit and the velocity i’m curious like

[23:32] what what’s the target of that velocity because you’re going to you’re going to just wreck things like it’s going to be

[23:38] incredible your pokemon are going to be so powerful why like but what like what where are you getting you know like i think this

[23:46] might be one of the things where it’s part like some of the funds the journey too like there’s not really a destination here

[23:52] yeah it’s it’s just a new form of cheating really it is and people have found ways to cheat right yeah they’re using like

[24:00] drones and id packing and drawings there’s a kickstarter program called the uh the pokey drone or something like that

[24:12] and it’s it’s so you can like you basically it syncs with your your device over a bluetooth connection

[24:20] and so it has like a limited range but like yeah it’s webcam on like a quadcopter drone

[24:27] fairly compact like maybe about yeah um and yeah like they showed a demo where like somebody used it to

[24:37] it basically just overwrites the camera on your phone so you still just played the game on your phone like you would but it’s also like you have like a

[24:45] a a controller attached to your phone that controls the drone so you can like flick and

[24:52] catch like water pokemon in the middle of a lake perfect

[24:57] i need something i need that type yeah so like there’s there’s and it’s actually like it’s it’s colored to look really fun and playful and toy like and

[25:05] it’s just like oh wow this is a thing this is really a thing that people are gonna get but it’s like where you’re gonna like catch pokemon on

[25:12] like a neighbor’s balcony like why do you need this thing probably in a neighbor’s house it would be even better

[25:22] i looked the whole uh there’s like this one little girl who decided to like set up a lemonade stand because oh yeah i saw that yeah yeah and it’s like she had

[25:30] like the three different teams and they had like all of her beverages and snacks were color coordinated to the teams and i bet she made a killing like

[25:40] that that little girl’s gonna be like a business executive supply and demand how do i capitalize yeah

[25:49] yeah yeah nothing works up a thirst and a hunger for doritos like yeah but still think like the i mean the the mention of the the pajama party that

[26:00] you saw and just even the fact that jeff um has taken his kids with it and i’m just noticing a lot of people in groups like like groups of anywhere from

[26:08] two like i said it’s kind of cute when you see a couple yeah clearly kind of like a younger couple that like that’s that’s darling but then

[26:16] there’s all there’s groups of like six to eight like folks just kind of zipping around and then they run off to the next one

[26:22] there’s obviously like the family angle of it like it’s it’s it’s kind of wonderful like that’s kind of nice like it’s all kind of based

[26:29] on a really cute and like simple fun mechanic that like i’m greatly enjoying i’m having a great time with it what’s hilarious

[26:36] though is like a few years back i think it was in like 2011 or something uh there was a ghostbusters augmented reality app which was essentially the

[26:44] exact same thing oh it was geolocation and you would go to these different like geotag spots and there were ghosts that

[26:52] you could catch and you could compare your ghost collection to your friends and that that was it was just your

[26:59] hunting ghosts but because the property wasn’t as like it had a big fan base but there’s

[27:09] something about pokemon i think that just has that uh appetite to it i don’t know

[27:15] i’m not sure it’s also nintendo just being nintendo i think it’s the i think it’s part of the battle thing too though because even

[27:21] like catching him and hey look what i found yeah has some interest to it but the thought that you can also then take these and

[27:28] evolve them battle them there’s gyms you’re part of the team it’s the it’s the best dog fighting simulator around that’s all it is

[27:39] you take your you take your beloved pet and you fight it against somebody else’s beloved pet and crush somebody’s soul that’s all it is well the 12 year old’s

[27:48] gonna get it you’re welcome kids ruined dreams crushed yeah you just killed somebody’s precious spot

[28:02] but the murderer i find interesting too like i’ve been i didn’t know that how many

[28:08] i’m curious to know how how they’ve gotten all this data because there’s especially in my head there’s

[28:14] parts of there’s graffiti that apparently has names to it it has recognizable symbols like there’s this one

[28:22] rose that has like an eyeball in it it’s called like the watchful rose um there’s one down the street called like stop walmart’s this graffiti on a

[28:29] garage in a back alleyway but its name and that’s and in fact like that particular piece had been put up as

[28:36] protest to a walmart opening nearby so it’s on point so it’s just like where did where’s that data like who the heck it

[28:44] was from their previous game they had a previous game called ingress so i think people have inputted these spots so that’s a huge interest

[28:53] okay so if you go to a small town that never really experienced in

[29:01] some sort of like uh hidden alien threat game or something yeah yeah yeah yeah oh and so that’s the architecture for pokemon go yeah it’s

[29:10] overlaid with that data so and i guess that was pretty big so yeah it was quite popular and it didn’t take off but it did it just

[29:19] molded its skin and grew feathers that was one of the cheats because you could use ingredients to figure out yeah you could

[29:27] figure out on their map where somewhere things would like show up and i think the creatures pop up with like cell phone traffic or something

[29:34] like it knows yeah certain like hot spots so you’ll get more creatures around where more cell phone signals are kind of i think

[29:41] they also test too it’s like what percentage of those signals uh are currently stocked with pokeballs and which ones aren’t

[29:50] yeah and then to help trigger an impulse buy it determines whether or not the one they’re going to spawn is rare yeah if you imagine you have a huge group of

[29:57] people and then let’s say 60 of them are short on pokeballs and then you’re like all right let’s

[30:05] spawn a rare one what amount of that 60 will just impulse buy the micro transaction right there and then to catch that one oh yeah for sure

[30:17] that’s and i would not be surprised if that’s what determines almost like you could lure out the rare ones by just making sure that like you and a big

[30:25] group of friends show up at a location and make sure that you create a high percentage of no pokeballs and you’re like okay

[30:32] man is there anything is that a nintendo move though is nintendo that devious

[30:38] yes well it’s not super devious like it’s just how micro transactions are there they base off of impulse and it’s like

[30:45] yeah but i mean putting a rare one only near people who don’t have well not necessarily only but like the likelihood is higher

[30:54] yeah i would like to think about in this dog fighting simulator that that nintendo

[31:02] wouldn’t steep to that level because i don’t know that seems very unfamily but to pair to pair with that point there’s no tutorial in the game so i’ve read up

[31:11] on people that have gone to pokestops to try and get you know pokeballs but they didn’t know how to activate it because you have to spin it well that took me a

[31:19] while yeah so they just bought them so one guy asked him like well you can’t be that far then you’re you know given 15 to start or whatever he’s like no i’m

[31:27] like level eight and i bought like maybe 60 70 balls so maybe that’s working in their favor too

[31:35] they just they don’t have any tutorials yeah go into the in-app purchases start purchasing thinking that that’s part of it

[31:41] and just like when a fast food joint hides the extra value menu yeah they’re just like

[31:48] all right you know 99 cents whatever i’ll do yeah the first like um the first three or four

[31:54] i tried to tap on them i guess i got i guess you don’t get anything like maybe it only spawns and then one it actually the server

[32:00] glitched and it’s like i’ll come back later and i noticed you could spin it oh my god that’s kind of fun and then next time i actually got to when i spun it

[32:06] i’m like hey there’s stuff oh my goodness i sped up the stuff stuff here there’s things for free wonderful

[32:18] but it’s uh i don’t it i gotta say like it meshes really well with uh the kid and the dog because we like i tend to be outside all the time now like

[32:27] i walk them to daycare i have to walk the dog um today despite being sick he was on a uptick so he we took him to the park and

[32:36] it’s just like i’m out all the time and then you have to stop at a stoplight now you have this 20 25 seconds of wait time

[32:44] it’s like all right let’s uh yeah lord forbid you spend those with your thoughts no those are i don’t want to think i want

[32:52] people to do that for me come on my brain’s a jerk and i have to spend every waking moment with them this is these are many vacations damn it

[33:04] yes i just stroll in a boat and uh man i like the thought that like stores have been putting the lures yeah so for the stops or anybody doesn’t know you

[33:12] can put a particular lure on it and everybody in the world gets to see the lure and it brings in more pokemon and ideally

[33:20] more rare ones apparently stores have glommed onto this so like if there’s a stop in their store they’ll put a lure so like

[33:28] bring in all these kids and everyone else to say like hey like coming by we got some great pokemon over here well it even happens with like food service

[33:35] establishments i know my one friend him and his wife were out for a poke walk and they decided to just stop at me that was great

[33:47] and they um they stopped at this one pub because they had a lure and they sat on the patio and had a couple beer knowing that they can sit and enjoy a

[33:56] beer and the lure is out and they just they just let the pokemon come to them yeah see they they sipped on their pokey beer and they loved it and they just

[34:04] enjoyed

[34:18] anything else yeah well yeah well you had missed as i mentioned to uh

[34:24] jeff at the top that i had finished a fire watch with my wife oh nice first time we’ve ever played a game and that one was pitch perfect that was an

[34:31] excellent first game for yeah i will um i will be sure to try that out with my wife i think that she would uh enjoy that one as well as far as just like

[34:41] exploring a narrative together and unraveling it because i know she really likes watching games with really good stories but especially with this one

[34:49] like being able to choose responses together yeah be ready though because you have a time limit on when you can respond i

[34:56] blew the first couple because i didn’t respond in time so it’s like yeah well i thought you know at mass effect style i thought i had like

[35:02] infinite awkward staring time to consider my choices like now you you got to get in there i like that though like i think that i think i’ve

[35:11] mentioned uh alpha protocol in the past too and they literally had a bar at the bottom like oh you gotta finish this up um i really think that that adds a

[35:20] certain pacing to the conversation and a certain amount of stress that public speaking provides it’s like i gotta see something clever

[35:28] and i’ve got like so much time to think of it before it’s not clever anymore and i just look contrived and yeah it’s it’s a it’s a cool thing so

[35:36] yeah i’m i’m happy to hear that uh you two finished it start to finish that’s that’s great that’s first time ever so congratulations

[35:45] congrats and that’s how our second baby was made

[35:55] what’s my name firewatch well little little debbie we have a story for you yeah no but i think it’s great because i think it opens the avenue this was a

[36:05] great experience that means in future similar experiences i think we can both get into so i’m

[36:11] not that very excited about that i was really happy that kind of worked this way to convince her to play until dawn oh yeah you should do that

[36:19] is that like a story heavy thing yeah it’s basically like it’s a narrative choices kind of game but it’s like a slasher movie where you’re trying

[36:28] to keep all the teenagers alive yes probably better if you didn’t say that well i will say that to her we’ll see

[36:34] what happens oh yeah i know him to convince her okay yeah maybe we’ll give that a shotgun

[36:41] like tucker and dale versus evil at your place so that’s true that was a good movie yeah anyone listening to the show you

[36:48] should check out that movie that that was fantastic that was underrated that was a good movie um

[36:54] yeah but jeff or you’ve just been playing pokemon uh yeah yeah basically i go for a walk come back

[37:02] and that’s it there you go go to bed but i just recently cracked into hell divers okay it’s from uh arrowhead studios i

[37:13] believe and they’re uh the team behind magicka it’s fun it’s like starship troopers very much like it’s so it’s starship

[37:20] troopers it is it’s just it was fun but the only issue i’m having with it right now is that it’s not great single player um you can tell

[37:30] it was made for a group so until i get people together and the time to do it i’ll just play a mission here and there and and stuff but it has some really

[37:40] cool mechanics in it but it’s definitely like you need at least another person to watch your back when like calling in air

[37:47] support and stuff like doing it all yourself but like realistically i kind of knew that going in like even if it’s going to be starship troopers a game

[37:56] anybody who was alone in that movie was dead dead they were dead and like even in the novel like

[38:03] if you try to go it alone you’re probably dead so yeah i’ve played it with i’ve played with four friends yeah or well three

[38:11] other friends it’s uh there’s friendly fire so it’s chaos like it is nuts there’s like friendly fire with the turrets yeah so everything that you

[38:21] plant yep can kill and there’s like mech warrior type um suits and you just crush your friends accidentally because the

[38:31] like this the turn radius is like awkward it has to step right to get around so you don’t mean to but you’ll squish one of your buddies and you’re

[38:38] like what the and they come in on um ps4 yeah yeah so when you when you respawn and stuff you come in

[38:45] like a capsule and if you don’t aim it correctly and it does not hit where you put it exactly you could just get killed by your

[38:54] brother coming in you’re like dude take me out but you’re that’s hilarious respawn that sucks

[39:05] geez i don’t that’s a tough it’s always a tough call because it’s on the one side it’s hilarious like the results killing your own friends killing that

[39:12] yeah landing like spawning and landing and killing your co players which is hilarious but it’s like a drop ship crushed an entire team yes the squad got

[39:21] crushed with the drop ship yeah and that’s the end we’ve yeah that happened you’re like we’re so close we just gotta wait for

[39:28] the drop ship to arrive and we’re gonna get safe and sound it’s gonna be crunch yeah i think the um

[39:36] the only one i can mention is uh i’m still going on overwatch still having a great time with that i was actually prompted to buy a gaming mouse

[39:42] because that’s funny like on my way to being pro over here because

[39:49] my fingers were so feeble in hitting the keys to like get all the various um like i wasn’t i could not keep

[39:58] good movement and also hit the key to do like whatever special was like i was finding it way too awkward so like now that the mouse has a few extra buttons

[40:05] like that’s been fantastic but you need to get one of those have you seen those things for like your left hand if you’re a righty where it’s like

[40:13] a keyboard hunk it’s like just like this it’s basically just like a hot key peripheral power glove um

[40:20] is that what it’s called i don’t know very cool if it was the power club it’s um but yeah it’s it’s basically like a little mini it’s almost like the

[40:29] numpad yeah but separate from your keyboard and it’s just remappable hotkeys and apparently those are really fun and

[40:37] what’s funny is that a friend of mine who’s also an illustrator he uses it and maps it for his hotkeys for like his adobe software

[40:47] oh really so it’s like he has this little like mini keyboard things like typically that with his one hand and he’s got his stylus with the other hand

[40:56] and it’s really really cool this is how this is how we art people this is how we professionally art all the time this is it this is the

[41:03] magic right here minority report give give that man your money like let them go oh yeah look at them go look at them all the way there

[41:12] it’s a perfect excuse look it’s um this isn’t about gaming this is this is a work piece i need this work peripheral yeah

[41:20] maybe it plays games too i don’t know but i’ve been slowly trying to convince my accountant that uh video games that i

[41:27] buy are market research you know being in game development why not why not yeah it’s not it’s not your accountant you have to worry about it’s tax man

[41:36] that’s that’s true account you can pay them enough to just do whatever you want yeah

[41:42] it’s when they decide they do the audit that’s when you gotta yeah yeah here’s a stack of receipts for chicken bones can i write them off

[41:49] whatever you want to do man it’s your money i’m not going to jail sure whatever they’re not going to size me up for the

[41:55] orange jumpsuit it’s up to you nice everybody now the gavin did you happen to have a beer pete beer pick for the

[42:04] week uh no because i wasn’t entirely sure if i was like i i had kind of

[42:12] reserved the idea that maybe i might not make it in this week so i’ve been drinking railside i think i’ve had it earlier in the podcasts uh it’s leyman’s

[42:22] uh session ale um it’s good it’s so good it’s still good it’s still good just a little hoppy it’s still good

[42:32] now you had sent a message out to the other dads here that side launch was back in store yeah yeah at our location i forgot to get one um

[42:40] but a side note my wife bought me a guinness blonde um which is basically like their american

[42:47] lager style which is basically them trying to market harp to north america either way delicious it was really really good wow

[42:56] really i wonder surprising yeah well i would not have i’ve seen it but it’s just like could not imagine it like guinness doing a

[43:04] anything but the black tar that they do delicious delicious delicious i like it i like it so

[43:10] no because like like harp lager is like it it’s brewed by the company like within the umbrella um and yeah so yeah i know the guinness

[43:22] blonde was it was refreshing it was tasty um it’s not even in the same realm as guinness but that’s because guinness is

[43:29] a different animal and delicious one of that but no guinness bond was very very satisfying

[43:36] wife took the risk for me and i thoroughly enjoyed it and uh yeah i would yeah i didn’t drink it this evening but that would be uh

[43:45] my suggestion uh for this week is uh try a can of the guinness blonde it’s good to know because yeah i would not have thought to try it but i might have to

[43:53] now i do i do so enjoy my guinness i’m a very much a guinness purist and i thought why not let’s give it a go and it was good

[44:02] so but then again like that brewery’s always had a good quality control and it seems a little weird but like yeah it’s worth a shot and uh

[44:11] it’s refreshing i saw you drinking something nice and amber well it’s gone now but yeah just finish it up in fact so the so

[44:19] this one i’ve been trying to get my hands on for a while a friend and colleague had been telling me about it for ages and just couldn’t

[44:26] classically again just could not find it anyplace so this thing is called triple bogey so so that’s for the folks

[44:33] who are looking at our wonderful faces triple bogey uh the if it’s and i think this is their only

[44:41] one because it’s actually called like triple bogey brewing co apparently in toronto which i didn’t that part i didn’t know when i was searching it so i

[44:47] could have gone to their website or like heaven forbid perhaps they’re selling it at the actual brewery uh

[44:53] this is delicious this was fantastic like it’s a it’s a lager so you know it’s kind of your straight and basic type of beer but it’s

[45:03] so smooth yet has uh such subtle flavor to it in a very great way so it’s not trying to tell some amazing story with crazy

[45:13] uh flavors like it’s not like maple or like grapefruit or like it’s not trying to go over the top and yet it achieves such a great flavor profile all

[45:21] the while still remaining fresh um and like super smooth like like i imagine a good part of it if unless it’s

[45:31] completely disconnected which i have a hard time believing like triple bogey like has it the golf term like they got golf all over the can and the design of

[45:38] it so i think in many ways it’s built for golfing and that would be a perfect beer for golfing just like for the opening

[45:49] open isn’t the rbc canadian open uh this weekend or next so i wonder if it’ll be there perfect well this but this would be an ideal one for it so it’s like like

[45:58] i said flavorful smooth like just a fantastic beer triple bogey from triple bogey brewing co toronto based unless

[46:07] if i had it came out a few years ago i probably would have been sweeping out of golf carts yes

[46:14] uh my old teenager job you would have been sick of the smell by now yeah oh the number of cans i had to power wash into the back of a golf cart

[46:24] you’d be shocked those things it’s like it’s like don’t drink and drive unless you’re in a golf cart and then whatever you

[46:32] don’t care so jeff as i understand it unfortunately you could not succeed in your dad challenge of side of

[46:41] drinking a side launch no it’s not where it’s nowhere to be found now i could not find it crate

[46:50] yeah it’s the one that’s the one crate in ontario i think you said none of them everything i should have got one

[46:58] it i saw every every grocery trip it was always in the fridge um at lcbo saw it everywhere because it’s

[47:05] really distinctive yellow can right with that lettering um so yeah i didn’t get that uh and this

[47:12] week i’m kind of under the weather so a lot of water and vitamin powder delicious taste um hopefully mixed into water but uh

[47:20] yeah just straight straight to straight powder like like one of those old um the candy pops were you oh god yeah oh wow that was great

[47:30] with the powder you just stick the little stick in there the kids in my school yard weren’t as well off so it was usually just a packet

[47:37] of jello powder and a finger okay

[47:47] then it was always that one kid would bring like he’d think he was just like oh it’s the same stuff so we bring kool-aid

[47:53] oh no yeah unsweetened see if all these kids just like they just dip their finger in the packet of kool-aid and just like

[48:01] make this horrible gross red tooth stained vase in real life they just had like sour

[48:09] cherry powder with zero sugar in it you make that mistake once now jeff i had you had mentioned you did try a side launch

[48:18] yeah i tried their dark lager which is not bad that one i don’t mind um it’s kind of got a

[48:28] little tail end to it when you drink it it’s pretty good i was scared to drink it because of my notes from the other

[48:36] side launch that i had previously uh reviewed but uh no it’s not bad um so that’s another one for the books

[48:45] i might do that one but we’ll try the yellow the wheat one the wheat version this is the dark lager so the wheat one scares me yeah let’s have

[48:53] any if any of us find it while to uh buy one and ship it to you yeah figure some way to get it out there so you can’t avoid it next week i’m gonna

[49:01] go to mine and it’s probably still gonna be in stock and i’m gonna break three and i’m gonna drink all three at once one can at a time just pure

[49:12] gluttony it’s it’s not even good though you just pour it out you’re like yeah yeah like one sip and then the rest of the

[49:19] podcast is me just pouring it in the toilet i care not for this beer anymore it’s all downhill after the first sip a full can is for peasants

[49:31] only the only the first sip shall touch my lips i refuse to drink backwash even if it’s my own wonderful

[49:40] gents i think we shall wrap it up then again for this week gavin thanks for the surprise drop in that was fantastic
