[0:00] shocking man I just can’t believe these things exist it’s that that would be a terrible game reviewer everything would just be like

[0:08] oh wow look at neat I can’t believe it it’s so crazy rating is just awesome and more awesome it’s just yeah going by it’s

[0:17] awesome it’s like the rating starts at 10 out of 10 and then goes up according to going to the level of amazement

[0:33] the adult beverages are poored the kids are asleep welcome to New dad gaming a show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives

[0:41] my name is Trevor and I have a one-year-old my name is Gavin no I’m Jeff and I have a six-year-old and a three-year-old I was resisting that joke

[0:51] because I think going back in history we’ve probably done that exact joke now all the time you got to keep actually I think that should be the

[0:59] TR that’s like that’s suffrage so Jeff or if Gavin doesn’t appear yeah his voice is terribly mocked by you and I both yeah though he might appear later

[1:09] right that’s T it tends to happen he just pops in casually late just I think he he probably hears that and then it’s uh he drops in to like defend his honor

[1:20] like excuse me he’s watching us live how dare you no time to record but he definitely listens live on our nonpublic broadcast oh it’s all

[1:32] good actually welcome to we did it another week survived yes and here we are it’s dark outside now the Daylight

[1:43] Saving Times is killing me yeah and that’s it’s there is no benefit to us as parents because the kid don’t care no no yeah know what time it

[1:55] is and especially like I don’t know if your kids I think your kids kind of respect clocks a little bit but mine’s got no clue so it’s just it just means I

[2:02] wake up at the exact same time so it’s like yeah you can hour sleep I’m like I do not I’m dad my son will not respect that and I

[2:13] will wake up at the same time did did you so did you did you achieve an extra hour of sleep no but hey

[2:22] new um the kids are old enough now to kind of stay in the room and entertain themselves so they’re allowed to get out a book and read and do whatever as long

[2:30] as it’s quiet and so we laid in our bed but even we weren’t really adjusted to it so we didn’t get interrupted but yeah it

[2:40] doesn’t help anybody it just undoes everything that you’ve worked you know six months for between the last time change so like just get rid of it please

[2:52] get rid of it yeah but it’s so dark and depressing now no thanks yeah five o’clock and it’s like midnight at least the kids kind of get tired out I find

[3:02] that they’re like wow it’s really dark and the moon’s out and I’m up past my bedtime and it’s really like 6 o’clock and like

[3:09] just that that tricks them that’s great yeah well for a while until they get smart about it so wait a minute it’s not this isn’t now so it’s I I’m missing

[3:21] that loophole when they he’s got to adjust all your clocks one hour forward yeah well well it’s 8:00 time for bed everybody lot commitment let’s check the

[3:32] dad watch oh no still bedtime yeah all the other host is in the clock wrong except for dad watch Dad watch is the one true watch of the house

[3:43] it’s 7 o’clock um we just had lunch it’s 7 o’clock go to bed exactly how was your week in fatherhood

[3:52] and gaming uh gaming I’ll do off the bat I started Witcher of course I did theion pack games yeah um but I will say I was

[4:03] only going to play it for like 5 10 minutes I was like I just want to see the new area they give you a new area um loaded it up probably two hours later

[4:12] way too late for my blood um it just blew me away like the right like this new area is spectacular it just blows my mind how good-looking

[4:25] this game is and it’s kind of done like a fairy tale kind of L like colors pop off the screen and everything’s just like overgrown and ah it’s just I

[4:34] couldn’t get out of it and then I had to stop myself like I’m GNA have to sleep and work eventually yeah yeah but it was

[4:42] nice like I’ve never had a game pull me in the same like I’ve had older games where you kind of boot up like Final Fantasy 7 and you’re like ah okay I can

[4:51] get into this I can do this for a while and that’s one of those games that have kind of been that for me which is great because I haven’t really had that in the

[4:57] New Gen kind of stuff uh even with Uncharted it’s great to get into it but then you’re kind of done so this thing kind of sucks you into its World um but

[5:06] no it was good it was fun to do um flipping into those comfy slippers and just it feels so right except it sounds like though some magical Dam slippers

[5:16] and the sound of it with the Fidelity and the graphics and the storyline yeah it’s and the music just everything just amps you up which is great when it all

[5:24] comes together it’s like it’s perfect it’s good and I escape in my little headphones in the dark room at like 11:00 at night how would you how would

[5:33] you come at it from as a dad though I mean is it not is it almost a sacrifice that you’ve decided that this is this is it this is the thing you play because

[5:42] there’s no way you have time yeah for other other gaming I did I did touch on another like the deadly Tower of monsters because it was free with ps+

[5:53] this month so I think Gavin played that before um but my only chance to play that was like quick flashes so yeah I’m totally invested in The Witcher kind of

[6:02] storyline and I’ve kind of accepted that and you’re like uh if something else really catches my attention I’ll I’ll drop it but I

[6:10] know this is kind of the game I need to be with and it saves me money I don’t know like it’s I’m buying it’s the one game I play in perpetuity my

[6:21] addiction I I achieved it I’m at I’m at Peak Peak game I’m done out I found it see you later but no it’s been good so uh that was my

[6:32] gaming experience um in terms of fatherhood um the kids started coming up with Christmas lists so so they so the same night that they

[6:43] pack away their costumes and Candy they proceed to bring out their Santa hat and their paper with festive feather on the top to right not my fault though it’s

[6:53] the mail because all the cataloges come in now they wait until like the day after Halloween and they all come in and the kids see them and then it’s the

[7:03] Christmas spirit everywhere so we can get a jump on shopping but that’s so negative it’s a Christmas spirit everywhere well it’s it’s all everywhere

[7:13] it’s everywhere it’s just like off one kind of seasonal thing into the next so it’s and it’s different like with a six-year-old and three-year-old they

[7:22] they like stuff so they want certain things it’s not like I can tell them hey you’re getting um new shoes hey how about

[7:32] that they like their own branded stuff so it’s it’s I don’t know it’s working with that making those lists gez act teaching them

[7:41] right like you have to teach them it’s not all about them they have to buy and think for other people too and that’s kind of actually been difficult to do

[7:49] because kids are just all about themselves they are selfish little people they are so so you’ve so you and your wife actively turn it into a

[8:00] learning experience then yeah yeah we try to um we don’t want them to fall into like because they do get spoiled at uh Christmas so it’s they get a lot of

[8:09] presents and um everybody else is kind of older and they don’t really have cousins that are kind of their age so it’s all about them um so we kind of

[8:18] have to instill in them that no it’s not all about you and you have to go out and ask people what they want for Christmas and and they’ll come with us to the

[8:27] store and and try and pick out for them and we’re constantly on them to say no know what would they like but usually the answer is what they would like to

[8:36] the other person would like so it’s kind of just reminding them they’re not going to totally get it my six-year-old should get it by now um so it’s just you got to

[8:47] keep on them otherwise they just kind of fall into a a spoiled kid syndrome and I don’t want that there’s nothing nothing worse so not not from a monetary

[8:56] standpoint but do you have have you and your wife set l limits for how much they’ll get it’s like look if if they get three from us and then

[9:05] the rest in the family or how do you approach that yeah we usually save well I okay they are asleep but I will say oh

[9:14] wait do I get to find out what they’re getting for Christmas no but I will say Santa is a tool like he gets he gets the best gift to them because you know Santa

[9:26] has to give the best ones to them so he gets all the credit and we go get get the stuff so Santa gets the toy and you’re you’re giving the socks well not

[9:38] entirely but the thing they want D I think I think you uh do a little bit of yeah I think I think 2016 is gonna be a big year for the SMY house I mean like

[9:50] the pump up man like this is it like this is the year Santa starts to go on a downward spiral Santa got you socks kid like it

[10:00] like Santa now but no he gets uh yeah he gets the credit they write Santa the letter for the one thing they want and then Santa

[10:10] will match if he can’t find the right thing so at least he’ll get close but yeah Santa gets the credit we get less but yeah we have kind of a value that

[10:21] we’ve set maybe it’s not necessarily like monetary value but like they get two kind of two gifts from us maybe two smaller things and then the family just

[10:31] buys one um gift kind of thing so and they respect and the family respects that no they don’t I don’t I don’t seem that

[10:41] know any grandparent that would def that would respect that no yeah they don’t and then sometimes they just go way overboard with stuff that I don’t want

[10:49] in my house or them playing with and I we’re getting into like Pokemon cards and all that stuff that I do not want um just because there’s issues with

[11:01] that Pokemon cards yeah they’ve banned them in a bunch of schools cuz kids go to school with the cards and they come home with no cards because they’ve

[11:11] traded them or someone’s beat them at something yeah okay and that’s money right that’s money lost and the kids’s upset the other kids’s probably happy

[11:20] but your kid’s upset so I don’t want that I’m sure someone’s going to get it for them but we’ve set kind of like you don’t buy this stuff but anything else

[11:30] in this kind of theme is fair game so I froz nothing but Frozen no Frozen’s done it’s Peppa Pig now man my three-year-old Peppa Pig all

[11:41] the time man that one’s I’ve watched Peppa Pig I mean I’ve previewed that it’s not I’m trying to

[11:52] I’m kind of I’m on a fence with it’s better it’s not Caillou so it’s not for that yeah but it’s not as entertaining as Paw Patrol

[12:03] but the same way Paw Patrol trying to pretends to have plots which are brutal and awful so like oh no that one kid that causes trouble caus trouble again

[12:13] it’s like yeah again guess he did like you know he was on a boat I can’t imagine what would happen he’s gonna do something bad with the boat I guarantee

[12:21] it don’t let that kid near anything he’s awful why isn’t he in school why isn’t he anyway so yes I don’t know but but it’s it’s easy like it’s soft and quiet

[12:33] and they kind of just do funny little things so Peppa’s we can do Peppa Peppa’s okay I don’t really watch it to be honest I’ve watched a couple minutes

[12:42] and then left can sing the theme song Oh I probably could because I’m still around I’m not actively listening to it but oh yeah

[12:51] it’s I don’t know I don’t know how my parents did it with all the stuff I watched over and over my pet monster and all that oh so the okay so two last one

[13:01] to round it out the um quick first one are are your kids at the point where they’re starting to give you gifts now um sort of yeah like um each one of

[13:13] remember as a as a kid I used to like there’s a couple years I remember going to like some of my toys and just like terribly wrapping it up in newspaper and

[13:21] giving it to my parents it’s that’s good though whilst whilst at the end of it then kind of really expecting them to give it back because I didn’t want Happ

[13:30] I’ll take that you’re not gonna play with it right yeah did it yeah I’ll take that right back yeah um maybe not so much like that but um we’ll we’ll try to

[13:40] take you know I’ll take the kids one weekend or something and we’ll we’ll look for my wife and then she’ll take them and look for me but it’s just like

[13:48] a mini gift like I like coffee so they’ll make give me a coffee grind that I like and that’ll be that at least they’ve thought about it they’ll do

[13:57] their own cards which is probably the biggest thing because that’s way more effort on their part um and then we might try to get my six year-old to

[14:07] start investing money in it so maybe he throws a couple bucks to something because he’s starting to save again teaching the value of money and you know

[14:14] it’s just not all for him and he’s got to kind of push and pull with his money so the importance of giving your money to your dad yeah exactly right Dad could

[14:23] use a Fiverr right now because he needs a copy ATT $3 yeah that’s my boy yeah that’s right but no it’s it’s getting complex

[14:36] now at Christmas that’s for sure and to close it off with like would you are you guys at the phase now where you’re buying them video games and would you

[14:43] buy them video games and are you buying the video games that you actually want I totally want to buy him video games that I want I’m I love Zelda is my thing that

[14:53] I your three expansion pack enjoy I haven’t I haven’t played a Zelda game game in like 25 years like it’s been forever and they really want him to

[15:03] get it but he’s just not there yet with the reading um but yeah he has a couple games on the list that are for him um they’re Platformers like Donkey Kong is

[15:12] a great one Donkey Kong Country uh the old Marios have come out again um and even Pokemon XY he can get around in so he’s getting video games which is kind

[15:22] of cool to see as a dad and being into video games and see how he plays with it um so that’s kind of cool my three-year-old is totally not there yet

[15:30] I don’t think he’s going to be the kid that’s into video games whatever uh we’ll see but feel too bad it’s okay don’t

[15:38] worry I failed but no it’s neat to see uh that kind of stuff come out but Russian dollar questions because now because now I think how does that

[15:50] actually when you’re playing a kid the same game as your kid I don’t know if you have yet but I’m thinking on the DS like how does that work with save files

[15:56] like do you have your do you entrust your kid to play where your save files are no there’s no way right like they’re

[16:06] gonna mess with it no yeah this is the problem okay just quickly this is the problem I’ll play on his save file because he won’t know the difference and

[16:16] so when he get wait you’re the one that’s dipping into the other file yep wow and then I’ll progress the story and then he’ll lose it all whatever and I’ll

[16:26] just like give him a side glance like H it’s so much more work for me to do tonight plus you’re Pat you’re stacking the deck you’re patting you’re padding

[16:36] it to help him out I’m having fun with it and it’s just it gets him to that next level where he’s just stuck on the same thing forever I’m like I really

[16:44] want to see that next World in Mario Brothers that I haven’t seen oh look it opened up for you he’s not learning like that’s like

[16:55] you’re pushing him through grades of like four five and six and he keeps like fa bath you’re just doing the homework to get him let Daddy take that and do it

[17:03] for you some of those are hard though holy even I was struggling with him but I can’t do my own save file and have him do it like there’s no way he would just

[17:12] mess it up or take all my Mario lives yeah you think like you would need gez that would almost be a dad like a separate login or like password

[17:22] protected in case they youy to access your safe file right they should do that that would be amazing I totally like that or a hidden

[17:32] save like a dad menu or like almost like a login system it kind of suck for them because they’d have to figure out how to log in and out yeah it’s like Avatar and

[17:41] then if you like you could password protect it so they can’t be messing with it it’s locked down logic it it it should be there because Nintendo’s very

[17:52] good about that I can lock down Netflix so he can’t get to the the the violent stuff so he can watch Netflix on his DS it’s all password protected in like the

[18:01] mature stuff and even the games if he’s if he boots up stuff or the store it’s password protected that way even the 3D mode he can’t view that right now um so

[18:11] if they do that for a safe file I am golden that is great like here’s your Zelda here’s your final fantasy here’s your look at all these games you’ll grow

[18:22] into it son don’t you worry you got this No it should be good oh that’s that’s fantastic so the um yeah so for myself the fatherhood was

[18:36] good um had a brutal week of work just really busy so the uh poor wife had to pick up a lot of things as far as putting him to bed and waking him up in

[18:47] the morning so the uh that was too that was a bit of a shame but that’s kind of evened out a bit and yeah otherwise he’s just a muscular Terror and

[19:01] SC just the uh no the physicality is just a riot like how how much he jumps like this evening it was just me and him so I think it’s you know we I think dads

[19:11] tend to Rough House a bit more especially with a son yeah yeah definitely so he’s on the couch he’s just like jumping on everything and he

[19:17] grabs this bouncy horse that he has and he brings it up and he’s going all over that and then purposely falling over and I’m like wrestling with him and throwing

[19:24] pillows at him like he’s laughing and yeah just the he to say he all sweaty like he was just he’s just a physical little beast

[19:35] and the problem is like we keep seeing these videos and it’s it’s a scourge of the internet like as we’re now raising kids but you know we’re seeing there’s a

[19:45] group that my wife has joined where it’s people who had babies in the same month as ours so may there’s all these other May babies

[19:53] and it’s like hey can you count it’s like one two three four it’s like man my dad my son can barely say Dada yet it’s like you got all these jerk kids Cam

[20:05] things and there’s some party that’s like okay you know maybe he’s a bit everyone kind of grows at their own pace likely this kid justed a bit Advanced

[20:11] like that happens uh some some kids didn’t walk until I don’t think I walked until I was two some kids walk when they’re like eight months you

[20:19] know whatever they but then there’s some part of you that looks at your son struggling to say anything and you’re

[20:27] like hm is is this fine this is my life yeah it’s like it’s like did you sacrifice brain mass to get the muscles

[20:39] that you got or yeah like is are we not feeding you but oh the so it’s it’s it’s just a ride

[20:50] it’s still like a lot of like I said I think at this point it’s uh surviving to this point is fantastic I think that’s something I’ve said in

[20:57] numerous shows but yeah man this is a lot of fun at this he can almost he can um he’s right at the cuss of jumping I think he can

[21:06] get both feet off the ground oh nice yeah yeah so so he just so he does that he the pattern the patterns are great so and the best part is like when the

[21:16] patterns get messed up so it’s it’s close but it’s not quite specifically there’s uh so when you’re happen you know it clap your hands you know

[21:24] right there’s a you know a very classic Children books where it’s the small white books with the big huge shape Mr long Mr sad Mr uh jump whatever it is

[21:37] and this one’s Mr happy right yeah yeah so so I’ll be reading that book to him like and then Mr Happy and he just he just claps like

[21:47] yeah yeah because of the que oh it’s that song ah it’s like you’re like close that’s close Yeah okay or or bingo you know B NGO yeah and they kind of get

[22:01] to that party just like just starts slamming his hands together it’s like you’re in the Wheelhouse yeah you’re getting there not

[22:09] quite ringing a bell and then he’s hungry kind of like a can I train you to do yeah no beers on the fridge

[22:19] yet uh yeah otherwise I got into Uncharted so finally did so Uncharted Four thief’s end and uh overall it so glad I played this and I so glad

[22:33] I’m very glad I got the PS4 almost to play this game it wasn’t the reason that’s not why I bought the PS4 but I’m glad I did to be able to play this game

[22:42] because it’s it’s it’s a Marvel and I think it’s really representative of how far we’ve come with

[22:52] gaming like you and I talked a bit before the show I mean we came up on Atari and Nintendo and Super Nintendo with which you know there’s a lot of fun

[23:00] games but just cinematically story-wise uh the awkward teen phase with the PS1 and even the PS2 when they’re starting to kind of figure out how to craft

[23:10] stories yeah and you know the first time you saw the graphics in Fall Fantasy 7 oh wow yeah right look at that City that’s crazy or

[23:21] the meteor coming down and then like this like this is just it’s a movie you’re playing in and there’s been a number of times

[23:31] when all of a sudden like he’s just standing there and I’m like oh I can play now okay yeah yeah yeah because because it looks so good the particular

[23:41] part we’re in now I mean if anybody wants an appreciation who hasn’t played it we’re I’m in Madagascar right now oh yeah

[23:49] yeah and the and you can see um classically in video games you have like very static IM is play you know like kind of placed at distances to look as

[24:01] if like behind each other to look as if there’s distance but in this game it’s at the very beginning you see this tiny trail of smoke way off in the

[24:10] distance and you go there you travel you travel all the way through that and the detail in between like of the rocks and the mud and the mud goes

[24:21] flying and that Al just from a tech standpoint that would be blowing enough but this is all encapsulated within a story like this

[24:33] just Triple A Mo Studio I just remember that in that specific kind of region I don’t know if you’ve done the winch with the

[24:43] Jeep so yeah you have to pull the Rope right and the Rope wraps like like physics of the Rope it knows where to go like even that would to me was just

[24:57] mindboggling like they spent the time and they got rope physics because usually we just clip through the tree and clip through itself but it it wraps

[25:05] around and it acts like a rope like the mud and and the tracks and the um yeah the lighting like the you’re in the at one point you’re in a mob

[25:16] boss’s seller a wine seller and your brother pulls out a lighter and the the perfect shadowing that it casts is just and

[25:27] again like alone that would be you know just you’d lose your mind but then it’s wrapped in this story yeah and so also I mean obviously some

[25:37] bullish on it like I’m I’m happy I think in reading the media’s perception of it I think everyone else was kind of on board with it too

[25:44] but yeah like what a great indication of like the place where we’re at with games like what is achievable now on this medium yeah like what what an incredible

[25:54] experience not at the beginning I was a little bit worried with the game yeah because it takes a while to let you to give you full control like for you to

[26:04] take the wheel like the early life stuff like the childhood stuff or is it like no not even that just the there was it felt for the up until um the mission

[26:13] before Madagascar uh when I was in the ruins it it didn’t feel like I was playing very much like it’s just like they’re kind of letting you like okay

[26:21] here’s a little sample and back to movie yeah like okay so my worry was that like that’s going to be the entire game is that to cut down the actual work they

[26:30] had to do was like 80% cutscene and 20% like Tech demo with movie yeah like it kept coming back like when is how much of a gain is this like

[26:43] I was really conflicted because it’s yeah it this is getting into like Dear Esther territory or um everyone’s gone to the Rapture It’s Kind like kind of

[26:51] floating through this game but no no that that picked up and now with this Madagascar section it’s full game yeah it opens up welcome awesome and you play

[27:03] Crash Bandicoot for God’s sakes crash band there’s a PS1 in one section of the game I had no this took this was a complete slap in

[27:11] the face shock I couldn’t believe it the you’re at home I don’t think this is considered spoilers even if it is screw it it’s amazing So

[27:22] you you’re in your house and you load up a PS1 and I think like a the little white version I had that version as well yeah

[27:31] yeah and you load it up and the sound and everything like it’s it’s one to one it is you are actually just playing the old Crash

[27:42] Bandicoot game like I think the first level as far as I remember a game within a game man I don’t know but a G like how it’s I would I almost feel insulted by

[27:53] it because that’s like that was a full game for me back in the day and now it’s just like tiny little mini game within a bigger game like it’s it’s borderline

[28:02] insulting to see it to me because that was that was a full game like like you paid $60 for that now they just kind of tossed it in as a little wink and Nod

[28:14] whatever I I can’t believe you weren’t spoiled on that though because that was pretty well publicized when it was I I didn’t read much about the game honestly

[28:22] I heard that I heard just good reviews like oh this is a fantastic game blah blah blah blah like I I don’t think really saw much on the way of plot

[28:29] points so okay yeah it’s good yeah it’s fun yeah whatever I’ll say this the one thing is like he uh he sure murders a lot of people oh yeah with like no

[28:45] regard of like life it’s like his mission yeah just like it’s so much murder he’s killed so many people y like it’s it’s shocking like I mean it’s

[28:58] obviously a lot more fun like you know I’d hate to be like a talking simulator we gotta talk but there’s there’s something about where he’s you

[29:06] know funny funky little Drake and he’s kicking around and like oh my buddies were explorers and then next thing you know he picks up this gun like head

[29:14] shots to like I must have killed like what a hundred people probably that’s mass murder that’s unbelievable that kind of yeah leave

[29:24] your mind on that one because it’s like look at all this story it’s got all this detailed and it interweaves and it threads and then you’re like I just

[29:31] murdered like a city and nobody’s after me right now except the like classic bad guys no local Poli it’s totally legal somehow

[29:42] like it’s totally legal and I mean just Nathan Drake whatever just let him do it never this is never really you know I think with video games that’s always a

[29:50] bit of a wink and a nod right where it’s like you know pew pew peww you’re going to kill a bunch of guys like manly man okay

[29:58] but I think the problem with this is that the storytelling and the characters the way they’re fleshed out like these these are

[30:07] you get a real sense that these are people like you have an appreciation for who they are and their motivations and their you know flaws all that stuff and

[30:15] same with the storyline like that is so filled out it’s kind of like if you were watching gez I don’t know let’s say something like Rocky film and then he

[30:24] just at one point he just pulls out a gun and kills like 50 people you’re like that’s a murdery this is crazy what are you doing he should be in jail yeah

[30:34] that’s like that’s but because he and I do that one because even with like a lot of cop movies or like let’s say die hard like die hard he’s gonna kill like yeah

[30:42] it’s set up that way right like he’s just this macho guy with the big gun and he’ll go and kill a bunch of people but yeah Nathan Drake is more like he’s

[30:50] having problems at home and his relationship and he cares about this stuff and here’s all his memories and here’s him as a kid and

[30:59] like Mur Mur I’m trying to think of like some uh like quiet character piece movie and I can’t no it’s just a it’s a little bit

[31:10] of a disconnect there for sure it’s just and you use like like explosives to semi-automatic pistols and machine guns and uh even like you crack like I’ve

[31:21] cracked so many necks and that which is so satisfying I don’t know it’s just the vibration of the controller and oh I love the no like that’s the stealth

[31:32] part is actually I’m loving it like if you’re able to kill everybody without being detected like that’s a blast that’s a lot of fun I try that for like

[31:38] two minutes and I’m like ah screw this in my old life I would do a playthrough where I would hold myself accountable for that where I have to do

[31:49] everything stealth right but not now I don’t have time for that so IED go yeah then at some point it’s like all right well Dynamite

[31:58] everybody’s gonna die dral murderer yeah no I could totally see that but I’m glad you’re enjoying it

[32:08] because it’s it’s a great experience and it’s pretty lengthy lengthy in the single player multiplayer I never return to it but

[32:17] that’s a weird yeah that that’s it strikes me as weird like that it does have a multiplayer mode yeah it’s it’s not really anything to commit to memory

[32:26] I would say um their other game last of us they did it really well because there’s a dynamic to the to the multiplayer that works uh

[32:35] within the game itself and Nathan Drake is like again kind of like the superhero that goes through a level and is almost indestructible so when you get that in

[32:43] multiplayer it’s uh it doesn’t really work you’re just it’s just bullet sponges to each other so it didn’t really work that way Uncharted 2 did

[32:53] agre with a co-op mode and you just fight waves of people with friends online that I found was kind of kind of neat and I don’t think they came out

[33:01] with that yet if ever so but yeah single player great yeah that’s um yeah shocking man so um yeah I mean other than that it was uh played they

[33:17] found they released a demo for Super Hyper Cube finally oh yeah VR yes yeah good old VR still returning like I still get dra

[33:28] to like get into it um quite a bit which is still a blast so Super Hyper Cube I think is much like a thumper which is another one uh another good example of

[33:38] this but with Super Hyper Cube It’s a and this isn’t my own necessarily my own thought this was kind of seated but a lot of VR what you’re seeing with a lot

[33:46] of VR is they’re trying to put you into a reality but like based in real life so you are in a car you’re in a spaceship like you are it’s you but in that other

[33:57] physical presence right with Super Hyper Cube like that’s just out the window like in like you this is just digital like you

[34:04] are a digital entity now floating like in space in this like particular space and you got this one task to do and it’s actually really exciting because like

[34:14] instead of trying to you you don’t have anything to deal with as far as like okay what do my in-game feet look like what do my you know what of my weird

[34:23] shoulders like if I if I lean my head too back can I see my neck stump type of thing like you’re not failing an immersion as

[34:30] far as I know that this isn’t life in said this is like you’ve just warped into a digital video game from like the 90s that’s and on top of that like the

[34:40] the effects and the sound and everything it gets just topnotch that one’s great the problem is I think it it’s a $40 game oh okay and it’s a Puzzler I mean

[34:52] like it’s you um if you’ve never played it it’s a you have a shape it’s a in three dimensions so it’s like a Tetris piece in three dimensions and then

[35:01] there’s a wall coming towards you and you have to twist it like in every single U way and every single axis to try to figure out how to get it through

[35:09] that wall without hitting it but I mean that’s kind of it and that’s that’s the it’s kind I enjoyed it like I’d like to show it to other people

[35:19] but I don’t know that I would keep coming back to it every night or like I’m going to get $40 worth of experience yeah 40 40 bucks for kind of like a

[35:27] Tetris is kind of yeah there’s some part of me of course I think some people just like live and die for puzzles so I think for

[35:35] them like this is this is going to be their jam and this is great and as I said it’s such a great example for VR like it looks and feels so

[35:42] cool but it’s kind of it’s a bit of a thing happening with VR right now I guess it’s I don’t know if it’s a matter of everyone’s trying to because it’s new

[35:52] and fresh everyone wants to kind of take advantage of the hype or it’s just super expensive to develop for VR right now because it’s a new medium but uh yeah

[36:02] the pricing on the games is just a little bit hard to swallow unfortunately well especially in Canada too right like you’re we’re paying upwards of I think

[36:10] it was like 80 bucks for um one of them one of them that I wanted to to play but I’m not spending $80 on what some reviews say you know they say glorified

[36:22] Tech demo because you probably get four to five hours out of it and you’re kind of done um which I can see because there were no

[36:31] VR headsets right so to ask companies hey invest in this new technology that we don’t know is going to take off or just flop it’s that’s their money like

[36:42] they can do what they want with it so I’m glad that they got so many people buying into it and even Indie developers developing for it I think that barrier

[36:50] of Entry will come down as soon as it gets more popular and um more models in the homes but uh I don’t know it’s uh I’d want a

[37:01] full-fledged game but then I worry about like do you get fatigued like sitting there like is your eyes just like popping off the screen because I’m just

[37:09] relating it to Virtual Boy which again 20 year old technology just like there’s no way to bring up VR without remembering virtual boy boy and like

[37:18] everything was red and I’d like pull it would stop me and I pull out and it was just green like your rods were burnt right it’s just like I don’t know if I

[37:28] could do this for like hours like an RPG like I don’t think I could ever yeah space I’m curious what I don’t know that

[37:37] um there’s probably a few examples but nothing that’s really grabbed me yet well I mean even with like battle zone is um and I played that a bunch more

[37:46] there was a it’s that is a hard game like it is to the point of which there was a lot of you could see a lot of feedback coming on it’s just like you

[37:55] know this is you’re supposed to die you’re not really supposed to beat it but it’s just because people hadn’t really embraced how difficult like I

[38:02] don’t want to call it it in in the vein of Dark Souls without trying to pull out that comparison too much in a sense that this is a hard game you’re not holding

[38:10] your hand you’re gonna be difficult like the best advice I saw for that was do a short campaign and um go use the heavy tank because I guess

[38:21] one of the easier ones to go just so you can kind of get through it and see it and uh but that for instance like it’s a Rog like it’s random generated every

[38:29] single time and then you can choose difficulty and then length so you can you got this big map and there’s grids where you have to go in to this grid and

[38:37] you know hack these four things or kill these six tanks or it’s a boss battle whatever whatever and it’s random kind of every time you kind of if you’re if

[38:44] you get into it and you put it set it to like hard difficulty there’s actually a bunch of strategy too because if you you can either kind of just beine it for the

[38:53] end boss but he if you don’t take out any of the towers he’ll be slightly powerful in one way but because of the time not so

[39:02] powerful for every turn there’s like they put out Nemesis or they can build towards building a nemesis and put out this like super tank that tries to kill

[39:10] you yeah so it’s a lot of like it’s a lot of interesting things and the map again kind of varies and where you can go so you know that I’d say that’s

[39:19] probably one of the I’ve probably played there’s that one and then of course a drive club which is just a driving game like I’ve probably played those for one

[39:27] or two hours straight on different occasions and it was okay not not too much strain not too no sickness no dodging probably actually e Valkyrie too

[39:36] I probably put an hour in but just the same I’d be curious about the eight hour like RPG session yeah which that which by the way I

[39:47] haven’t done I haven’t been able to do that in years so like exactly like maybe that’s maybe it’s geared towards us then you’ll have an hour or two to spare and

[39:53] you can jump into VR and kind of get it done because yeah I haven’t had that kind of play session in forever so you imagine

[40:02] you know man that’s not a bad that’s not a bad angle in fact because it’s it’s not just a gaming experience it is a it’s like that next

[40:12] level crazy experience it’s all-encompassing like that’s amazing and if you have but half an hour if you have but maybe an hour you can spend it in

[40:22] this virtual space which is super amazing as opposed to you know you know maybe something a bit

[40:28] more normal or basic might it might be there it is psvr for dads it’s it may just be for us the that

[40:42] is an interesting Market segmentation I guess the that makes me think oh they come out um I think if we go through this we can

[40:50] probably wrap it up for the week but they a big stream of stories I was around the PlayStation Pro and how it renders VR better do you have any

[41:03] inkling to buy a PS4 Pro um not at this point just because um I don’t really have the TV to get the most out of it they’re talking

[41:14] 4K which I hate upping resolution when we haven’t got to 60 frames a second on the resolution that exists now like some of those like when again Witcher when it

[41:27] launch it did not keep 30 frames a second in all areas they had a patch patch patch which thank God they did because at least it runs 30 but if

[41:36] you’ve ever played a game at 60 frames a second like a lot of PC Gamers do normally um the remastered versions of like last of us has those options where

[41:46] you can pick 60 frames a second slightly lower resolution or um less detail or you can play 30 frames a second just max the detail out so your shadows are

[41:56] gorgeous everything else but you’re playing at the normal 30 frames I don’t have the budget to buy another PS4 if I was going out as a new like new PS4

[42:09] owner I’m looking to buy one I would probably invest in the Pro just to get that longevity out of it but I don’t like this midc console upgrade stuff

[42:17] like we’re going the way of cell phones now where it’s like Apple’s gonna push out you know every iPhone every year this is the PlayStation S I can totally

[42:27] see that happening cuz you do get that you get the slim version probably two years after launch and now you’re going to get a pro version a year after that

[42:35] and then gen next is going to come out maybe two years after that it’s just I can see it segregating and separating a lot of those games where they’re not

[42:47] they’re supposed to be played on both versions right you’re supposed to get the greatest out of it on the PS4 Pro which they might show in commercials and

[42:55] then you get it and it’s not quite there like I don’t know I I don’t have the budget I don’t have the TV I’m not going to do it

[43:02] I would love to have it just because to see yeah are be curious with um so as our kids come up and they start asking

[43:13] for um when they’re driving it like the kids are like oh like Dad you got to get me the PS4 Pro please please please the like I

[43:23] wondered so as kids I can remember like asking a lot for oh the PS1 came out I want that or the N64 or the PS2 or you know like the big console releases you

[43:33] had to get that one right I’m curious about a kid’s desire to get a PS4 Pro versus a PS4 because it the games he would be you know wanting yeah would be

[43:46] on both yeah um it’s you know in many ways like I try to think about the benefit of playing this um uncharted on a 4K TV with a PS4 Pro if they did a

[43:58] remastered version I’m sure it would be even more beautiful but I’m just I’m already I was already here spell binded like I’m sitting here talking with my

[44:06] eyes wide about amazing it looks so it’s not hurting yeah so I’m I don’t know would are is it gonna be a good big enough for kids to

[44:14] drive parents to get new ones or I think the parents are gonna be driven to get the next best thing do you know what I mean like if I had the option to get one

[44:26] now I would push them to get a pro just because I know that it’s it’s going to last longer and you’re going to get the most out of it if by chance the other

[44:35] one were to go away um so I would almost kind of direct that um but again pricing is an issue too and it’s only I say it’s only like $100 over the base version but

[44:45] they’ve already made me believe that that’s the best thing to get do you know what I mean like the marketing is that good and Microsoft’s not helping because

[44:54] they got their next one coming out so it’s we were happy as kids yes you had to get the Super Nintendo Yes you had to get the N64 because there was like seven

[45:04] years in between them or something like it was long I don’t know trying to think kid time Super Nintendo to

[45:14] N64 and we could never we definitely could not afford when it first came out yeah no neither can I so it’s always like a couple years after alth I

[45:23] remember playing 300 bucks for the PS1 with my brother $300 for PS1 $300 yeah we pulled our money oh man you want you want talk

[45:35] about Jesus you want talk about save files we did for some reason the one of the first games we got was Resident Evil the problem is like and I kept like

[45:48] there was two or three instances where I overwrote my brother’s save file oh my God you did and he had gone so far I was banned from playing it until he

[46:00] was finished until he beat it we got this hu huge argument I was not allowed to play this brand new system we bought together until he beat it because I just

[46:11] kept ruining his safe it’s just oh that was torture I just so badly wanted to play this thing like I kept playing the demo disc

[46:21] like I really want to get into it can you let me get into it please let me play it it’s just standing

[46:33] and sparkles oh the did you have a beer pick for the week um yes so I tried Trafalger APA I think this is one gav tried hold

[46:47] that label up to the camera and audio listeners enjoy this yep so locally brewed in that really looks like wine right does right are you sure it’s not

[46:59] did you just drink a bottle of wine yeah that’s right uh it sure doesn’t taste like wine um I didn’t really like it I’m not really in for citrus kind of stuff

[47:10] so oh not did hold on did you say Gavin I think he recommended this for you there’s no way he recommended a citrus beer for you I don’t know it’s got a

[47:18] citrus taste on the end of it I mean it was okay it was good like I drank it all it’s quite a big bottle looks like a bottle of wine that’s why you so made

[47:27] this episode um so it’s okay I I’m good with one I wouldn’t necessarily have another um and I might just kind of stay away from buying it again like

[47:41] if it’s given to me yeah sure I’d take it but it’s not I don’t know it it didn’t blow me away and I can kind of tell it’s

[47:50] local if that helps I don’t know it’s it’s got that brewery’s first beer kind of taste well it says every bottle is handmade hand labeled so I’m like

[48:01] dude just invest in like do that don’t do that like it kind of tastes like it tastes a little bit of Cherry in here I don’t know um okay so

[48:12] so you might say um good beer not to your taste yeah no I can definitely appreciate it it’s just it’s not quite for me so with that kind of seals it now

[48:24] if you want to talk about cheap labeling I don’t know if you noticed in the LCBO but they just it seems like a whole new batch of cans have just like fake quick

[48:37] like plastic labeling put over the edge of it like you pick it up you’re just like oh this isn’t yeah then you pick up the other one you’re like this is for

[48:44] all I know this is the same can different artwork because it’s just got these like sleeves on it this is one of those um so it’s called um lost craft

[48:55] Revival okay is the type confused me because it’s called a premium logger ale so are you a logger or are you an

[49:06] ale are you an ale that got logger or did you did you logger the but okay but it um but it was good I I think it was not um very very clean

[49:18] just very straightforward I think in fact you might enjoy it because there’s really just there’s nothing but beer in this beer that’s good but yeah very

[49:25] approachable very simple there’s not really any super flavor characteristics that jump out at you but um yeah nice a basic pick so enjoy lostcraft Revival

[49:37] premium logger ale that is a mouthful man I don’t it’s one of the surp I’m glad they restrained themselves and didn’t throw in like other types like

[49:48] premium portered logger bigger label for that they’re like no no we can’t do it can’t wrap it around just by the letters folks this is
