[0:01] super oh dinosaur yeah exactly exactly that sort of attention span to just be like whatever next I got this stupid adult brain that

[0:12] just fusses [Music] and the adult beverages are poor the kids are asleep welcome to New dad

[0:25] gaming a show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name is Trevor and I have a

[0:32] one-year-old my name is Gavin and I have a one-year-old I’m Jeff I have a six-year-old and a

[0:40] three-year-old gentlemen another week welcome to it we survived yay that’s just about the appropriate

[0:48] response yeah sure yeah that’s right yeah cool it’s like that quiet period between so Halloween’s over uh Canadian

[1:00] Thanksgiving already came and went and it’s just the slow and steady March towards Christmas oh we’re there daunting

[1:08] daunting that daunting holiday in the distance yeah the you know maybe to start it off Gavin like I’d like to hear your full update afterwards but if you

[1:17] could perhaps start in last episode me and Jeff got a chance to talk about Christmas um which is especially funny to hear Jeff’s current situation with

[1:26] two kids that have now kind of become aware uh but yourself and the little one um is there any particular angle you’re taking have you discussed with family

[1:35] not getting her things or are you planning Christmas outings like anything in particular with you and the new family around Christmas uh we usually

[1:43] have a pretty regular Gauntlet of travel uh we’re starting to host a little bit more here so like because there’s a lot of branches to the family tree uh we’re

[1:54] trying to get a few of those uh Gatherings like at our place um because frankly I would rather cook than drive um that’s where you and I differ

[2:06] yeah I’m opposite oh know put put me in the kitchen I’ll I’ll I’ll totally baby that bird all day I don’t care I’ll base it the new dad Christmas is at Gavin’s

[2:17] Place sounds like it we’ll drive there I’ll bring the psvr it’ll be all good so uh no it’s it’s it’s been last year we ended up doing a little bit more hosting

[2:28] and that that was great um because we have family kind of on like a couple hours out of the city on either side of the

[2:36] city so to like do that Gauntlet is is quite a bit so yeah that’s that’s been it went well last year we’re going to kind of try to do the same thing this

[2:47] year um as far as like the the baby and the gifts and stuff last year we didn’t really do much in regards to like too many guidelines um because we knew

[2:58] nobody would listen anyway ways so um pretty much yeah exactly but now that it’s later on uh we’re going to kind of we uh my wife’s already put together a

[3:10] really thorough list of just like okay here are some types of toys that we’re really thinking for her and um mostly also because we know they’re ones that

[3:20] can get put into a toy box U which is really important to us because our apartment’s not huge so we’re trying to you know

[3:30] suggest to to the family and and friends and that it’s like well if you want to get her something or if you want to go off list just make sure something small

[3:38] that we can shove in a toy box when the day is done you’re getting don’t need like yeah exactly or like one of those little ball pits or it fits in a toy box

[3:48] exactly when when you dismantle it so yeah we’re just trying to like those sort of things but for the most part I think we’re just going to kind of

[3:58] roll the punches um um something that we El we’ve been contemplating doing is a like a education saving plan and get that set

[4:07] up and also encourage people to to contribute towards that um that sounds so very adult we have it no one’s ever

[4:17] contributed no they’re like no I want the gift because I want to see their face I don’t want to see your face yeah yeah cash donation isn’t any fun I got I

[4:26] gotta buy the creepy clown doll come on unless yeah if it’s an in addition to by all means but yeah but uh yeah no honestly our family’s pretty good

[4:37] their their um understanding of the fact that you know we don’t have a pretty big house or anything like that and they also understand too that we’re really

[4:47] trying to have her engage with toys and stuff but also making sure that it’s stuff that’s going to stimulate her properly as far as you know brain

[4:56] development stuff like that uh it’s not like she’s just playing with an abacus but like it’s uh we’re trying to have a good balance for her as well so um but

[5:07] yeah uh that’s about it for us as far as that goes um I I we otherwise in fatherhood and gaming for that matter fatherhood and

[5:18] gaming fatherhood pretty good uh baby’s been a goofball this week which has been adorable um she’s strong as an ox like she’s not a very big baby but like she

[5:30] can move furniture and just like she doesn’t care so uh for for someone her size like she’s she’s pretty good at moving stuff around definitely a little

[5:40] Mighty Mouse um because I I came home from work I think it was the last night and I came home and it was like her toy box was by the front door and there was

[5:49] like another toy bin over by like she just took all the bins out of her room and just dragged them down the hall and like she had one it was like filled with

[5:57] clothes like one of those like square foot cub bins she dragged it all the way down the hall then dumped it and I was just like okay like that’s impressive

[6:05] I’m actually I’m not I’m not even upset about it she wasn’t angry or anything like no she was just like yeah she was just hul on a mission she wanted the

[6:15] clothes in the living room and that was that so uh yeah she’s been really really cute uh we had doctor’s appointment yesterday that went great doctor really

[6:24] happy uh so that makes us happy uh you took a shot in the arm like a Camp cried it off back to normal way better recovery time than I have

[6:37] uh I wish that my body and brain could bounce back like a baby does like right crazy they’re yeah it’s they’re just so back to normal so fast uh we like I need

[6:51] to dwell on things yeah but uh no uh as far as gaming goes uh I’ve started into Uncharted Four uh which is very very enjoyable I think I’m only on the sixth

[7:06] chapter at the moment um something I’m noticing with the animation uh which is amazing uh but like during the cut scenes and stuff that it’s things like

[7:17] like pillows deforming to the characters uh interaction with them and things like that like the animation and the physics of soft material and and that I’ve been

[7:30] finding like really intriguing to watch like it’s a little uncanny valley at times because it looks so real I think that’s the problem is it’s like it’s

[7:38] really certain brid that Gap uh because things are reacting to physical interactions the way that our eyes are expecting them to uh and like

[7:49] the lighting and everything it’s just texture wise it’s everything about it is pretty cool story-wise I’ve been really enjoying it too it’s just it’s all

[7:56] around I really enjoyed the first three games and in this game is uh at first I was like really you had a Trilogy that was good I was like no this is great

[8:04] this is just give me more this is really cool it’s a good send off yeah very very send off so um yeah that’s about it thanks beut Jeff yourself in

[8:16] fatherhood and gaming uh fatherhood we got all our flu shots too very different story uh six-year-old and three-year-old they know what’s happening um and they

[8:31] like I myself hate needles I hate them I can’t stand them deal with them I hate it so my personal hell is standing in a lineup at a local high school to get a

[8:43] flu shot with my family running around crazy so we did that um it was like the only Clinic around here to get one done so the kids got in they scream their

[8:53] heads off um for a while and then the Poke wasn’t that bad it’s all the work up to it but they know now like they’re mentally like they’re coning up images

[9:02] of this is going to hurt they’re going to take my arm off what are they injecting into me like what do you mean I’m G needles like this big ex stab

[9:11] through your arm and you know the volunteers are work in the clinic like God bless some great people but they move so slowly it’s like can you not see

[9:20] that I myself have anxiety up the wo and my kids and you just ripping over the Band-Aid a little bit you know cotton ball or like a single jar it’s almost

[9:31] like they had a huge jar of cotton balls and they had to like pick one and just kind of take it out and can you just move faster and get me out of here

[9:40] like stab me and go stab stab go but oh it’s like yeah like especially with kids like that I think everybody has an Impulse when you’re waiting in line or

[9:50] something and it’s just like could you just just go why aren’t you going fast especially with kids because like they they have no

[9:57] patience and they also have any no social awareness so they could care less about social norms around waiting quietly in a line so they’re they’re

[10:05] just tearing around yeah yeah that’s so it’s especially then all your anxiety towards it is just pointed at them like bastard God why don’t you going faster

[10:16] just go up and down the line and just start poking people in the shoulder don’t worry about cleaning the W you see do you see these kids God look at the

[10:23] kids look at the children come on yeah no very different than uh we’ve had it done at the doctor’s office maybe that’s the way to go we just didn’t have an

[10:32] appointment lined up at that time but yeah free clinics are just that they’re just free clinics and you pay the price a little bit but everybody’s good

[10:41] Everybody’s Fine recovery time like Gavin said oh my God it’s like we are wiped out the day after it’s like it took its toll on us and meanwhile the

[10:49] kids it’s like gave them steroids to run around climbing walls and stuff like I’m like are you sure it was an adrenaline shot and we got the flu shot or

[10:58] something like um so it was pretty crazy afterwards but um I also um got out the telescope for the super moon and showed my kids some stars and the the moon

[11:11] really astronauts guaranteed yeah no they’re really in into it so it kind of blows their mind a little bit that they can see so close to it um so even my

[11:20] youngest uh the three-year-old um he was just over over the moon to see the moon so it was kind of cool nice a joke dad pun you got

[11:31] it so proud yeah so that was kind of cool to see that they were interested in something kind of I don’t know outside just Lego or you know Ninjago or Paw

[11:42] Patrol so H good good times there um has Paw Patrol gone hold on has Paw Patrol gone to space yet I don’t I wouldn’t doubt it yes they got to they have I

[11:56] haven’t seen it yet there was like a um an astronaut monkey character of course like lands in the water and then they have they talk to

[12:08] Mission Control and they have to try to get the monkey back into space and then one of the dogs accidentally goes up with the monkey or something I don’t

[12:16] know I remember an alien episode that was just like a very classic green little dude but they didn’t fly out of the space I’m just expecting the whole

[12:24] Moon rescue like oh no dribbles is on the moon

[12:33] it’s just sending the atmosphere submit that episode there Trevor about how like entirely useless the mayor is everyone and every episode

[12:47] simple things it’s like her chicken is getting carried off by ants and it’s like this is a problem like just pick your chicken up and wipe the ant off his

[12:55] butt fine like how is this an emergency you have have to call like 911 for like it’s just you’re your child labor

[13:08] [Music] force they work for treats that’s it yeah so it’s it’s got to be some easy plot to write because it’s like all

[13:17] right we need some we need to sell some spaceships how can we get these guaranteed guaranteed that’s what they do so what’s the what’s the name of the

[13:25] the awful inept kid that’s terrible he keeps getting in trouble with everything he doesn’t deserve a name jerk kid the tiny kid that keeps like he’s not in Paw

[13:35] Patrol but he’s a tiny kid he just ruins everything is that ruins everything so they are going to do an experiment about sending uh message to

[13:47] the moon and jerk kid falls into the pot somehow and that gets sent up to the moon and now P Patrol has to go up there there done guarantee just like it’s any

[13:57] story is basically they’re gonna do this and then this kid ruins it and then they have to save this kid it’s like that kid would should be a juvie that kid should

[14:06] be like under constant supervision we’ve never seen his parents by the way yeah I only have a grandpa so I don’t think he has parents but like I compare it to

[14:16] like Looney Tunes right I watch Wy coyote and the Road Runner all the time and I I don’t know why maybe I expected a different outcome each time but it’s

[14:24] the same kind of thing it’s like you’re going along and then you a trap it doesn’t work and then he gets trapped Paw Patrol

[14:34] light yeah something more honest about that though because just like they’re not solving a problem they’re trying to overcome an obstacle and failing at it

[14:41] this is just in a city of the most inept unable humans you’ve ever met like a a series of super dogs has to save them

[14:52] constantly maybe that maybe Paw Patrol is set where it’s a prison Island where the humanity has sent just the the worst humans to live because they couldn’t

[15:01] survive in normal society so there’s just these people bumbling around like morons and they set these like super dogs they just like look just make sure

[15:09] they don’t die okay here’s a phone they’ll call you from time to time just answer it just just help him get just help the chicken

[15:18] from the ants like why does the M of a chicken just don’t don’t like she used to be a May and she Lo she turned out to be awful we sent her to this island just

[15:27] save the chicken from the ants and don’t ask questions I can see it so I just it’s it’s like it’s like lost really you just

[15:36] had to keep peeling back the layers and complexity of the show God it ends

[15:46] poorly so so Adventure Bay is Purgatory whoa spoiler alert holy yeah whoa come on I haven’t got you last season yet it’s like 10 years old

[16:02] yeah no but that that’s fun games this week in yeah in terms of gaming I hold on Gavin do you want to take a guess as to what Jeff played this

[16:23] a PAW Patrol VR oh God no don’t even suggest that that will that’s into ether now

[16:31] no no I played a game called abzu that underwater game oh I’m jealous I’ve been wanting to try that one yeah I got it on sale a while back I

[16:42] just played it with um actually my two sons so we kind of sat down it’s if anybody doesn’t know it’s just an underwater kind of diving game um almost

[16:53] like in the vein of in the vein of flower is it not yeah um flower Journey people I think work Dev Journey yeah yeah so it’s quite uh quite calming like

[17:05] the music’s all there the something about being underwater and the fish reacting to you and you can control the fish and ride a whale and all that other

[17:13] stuff um it’s same kind of idea you just go around to each location and you kind of open up new locations and you just go about your way you can’t die or anything

[17:22] so it’s fun to have the kids kind of watch it they can’t really control it though cuz like the swimming is great uh like the controls for swimming but

[17:31] holy like I’ll get motion sickness if they try to do it again it’s just like all over the place like they’re up they’re down they’re turning around in

[17:38] circles I’m like okay no I can’t let’s just we’ll work up to this one you guys can watch for a bit let Daddy play but they t on the unconnected

[17:48] controller yeah yeah you’re controll you’re winning with the fish but no really really cool game uh so if you can pick it up it’s I don’t know it’s it’s

[17:56] almost like a good screen saver just leave it on and have the music and the fish go by um but it’s really well done nice colors on it and stuff so it was a

[18:05] it was an interesting one it was non- Witcher so let’s just put it that way but that was about it for me like The Witcher dives into a lake and it

[18:17] just turns into that game turns into that game yeah I’d spend the entire game down there yeah too too much adventuring with Griffins so you know you have to

[18:25] dive down and just relax a little bit wh exactly yeah so for uh for myself we actually ended up taking a trip uh for work I had to fly down to Los

[18:39] Angeles and given some Canadian lousy weather uh and I was down there anyways we decided to have uh my wife and my son join me uh the next day after all my

[18:49] meetings and everything were finished uh now the terrifying part about that was like she to get down uh from a logistical standpoint she would

[18:57] have to take him on by herself to no end just because if like the kid flips out and then you’re just one parent trying to deal with it

[19:09] like it I wouldn’t wish that on anybody so we did our best to mitigate it because I I with me I I mean I really don’t need that much to travel with I

[19:17] travel very light so I just I took everything of his that I could so she’s going to have minimal bags like I made it so she didn’t have to check in

[19:24] anything just like one backpack for her plus you know baby bag to try to distract him yeah but uh fortunately it all went well like it uh turn he’s so

[19:35] far been a very good flyer I think this is now his fourth or fifth flight that he’s taken uh so he’s done very admirably

[19:43] well man that’s tough I just can’t believe I can’t imagine what it must be like for a kid it’s just everything they hate like sitting still confined spaces

[19:53] being quiet yeah oh yeah being just like not being able to move like man this is everything they hate they just compacting it long periods of time like

[20:03] that’s a five hour flight I like how yourown more in his like year and a halfish than I have in like five yeah yeah me too he’s he’s Trav

[20:18] he’s traveled more than my parents ever have like like it’s yeah he it’s funny that we’ve kind of dragged him around it’s kind of a perfect well I put it

[20:27] this so it’s he’s still free yeah so you can just take him on the plane that’s great um it’s awful age for him to be traveling at because he’s old enough for

[20:38] Mobility he’s starting to understand things like verbing just like likes to play with things but he’s not old enough to comprehend anything like you can’t

[20:46] sit him down and explain something to him or talk something listen we just have to be quiet for a little bit because we’re Landing you know like you

[20:54] can’t attempt to have some reason able conversations with him I know the kids don’t take it but for instance let’s say Jeff if you took your three-year-old on

[21:03] a plane um and he needed to just chill for 20 minutes do you think you could have a conversation with him yeah oh yeah do that but yeah he might Trail off

[21:14] I it’s more effort on my part to kind of keep him interested but yeah he would he would talk to me and kind of be distracted that way but um or I could

[21:24] just say you know make a game out of it or you know after 20 minutes if you don’t talk you I don’t know get a high five or something like it’s easy enough

[21:33] to make a game but yeah I could totally talk them down but yeah with yours there’s no way like they have no clue because if they’re small enough it’s

[21:42] just you know it’s just a baby it’s just just like infinite you’re jumping you’re holding around if it’s this this a if it’s older you can speak to them a

[21:49] little bit like there’s a little bit of comprehension and at this point there’s just nothing yeah he walks like a He Walks Like a Man he does not talk like a

[21:59] man he does not think like a man so it’s hard to reason with him but luck out it was great and otherwise just an excellent trip and we had a lot of fun

[22:07] kind of traveling around as a family not uh not a not a moment of relaxation no you know in trips there’s always like

[22:15] maybe a little part where we get to kind of decompress and relax like no yeah that that that’s dead now that that’s that’s died that doesn’t

[22:24] exist until he goes to college those days will never return ex but that was great I know I’ve generally taken to calling him the

[22:32] little Rhino because he he just barges through everything with such Reckless disregard for other people’s safety for his safety for the value of things a

[22:45] little Juggernaut just a little Juggernaut basically Jugger and same same thing with Gavin’s kid I me it’s just like The Uncanny strength of these

[22:53] little people to like push over bookshelves push on throat oh that move does your kid do that move where like you’re holding them

[23:03] and they don’t want it anymore and they just put full force on your Adams Apple oh yeah he’s he’s he’s taken to just like taking both his hands and grabbing

[23:10] my neck skin just like or like when he is getting excited and because he doesn’t have ways to express it he’ll just start

[23:22] to like bang in quick succession against something which at one point was a person’s seat in front of us where it’s just like

[23:31] I don’t want to be that guy please don’t make me that parent too late my my darling little rhinoceros but uh no he’s good so it’s

[23:43] it’s been fun but generally like you know it couldn’t uh could have asked for that to G better all things considered gaming wise U much like yourself Gavin

[23:51] I’ve been going through Uncharted we’d actually spoken of it uh the previous week the the murder is still not sitting well with me like it it’s certainly fun

[24:02] but it’s just so it feels like in some ways some at times feels like two different games where you’re watching this um jovial lightweight happy guy as

[24:13] he transitions through some certain life things and he’s wrestling with some uh Coming of Age oh not coming of age story but like dealing with letting go of a

[24:23] past as he tries to settle into a future life and like with his wife and everything and then the next moment he’s throwing grenades as he like hurdles

[24:30] himself off the side of a building and four guys in the face and it’s just like that’s I’m not sure I just saw that guy in the cut scene that’s familiar to him

[24:40] though that’s what he holds dear shooting dudes in the face it’s an automatic response that’s funny because I think with like James Bond like

[24:49] you like he’s he’s Charming but it’s charming and a w this dude could totally kill me to type of sense like it it’s that archetype and this this guy is is

[24:59] to be so chummy and to be so affable and then to turn around and be so deadly and like cracking necks it it’s it’s not a complaint in a sense I don’t like it

[25:10] because that part of the game is exciting as all heck and especially like the sneaking part you’re able to kill four Dudes without anyone noticing and

[25:17] shooting like it’s such so much fun but it’s just Gavin have you found any distance between the character and the action uh not at the moment but still

[25:28] relatively early in the game so I don’t think I’ve gotten to the very uh like I don’t the violence is crescendoed yet for me so um I think

[25:43] maybe maybe a little bit later I’ll I might come across that uh but yeah I agree like when you have a character who can be very

[25:52] light-hearted there like even in the previous games I always found there’s a little bit of a disconnect with with those two aspects um I think it’s

[26:01] also just because of like with with Han Solo for example like he was the same sort of you know crack a joke uh

[26:12] character and yes he would be shooting laser guns at Stormtroopers and then they just they trip over their shoelaces and die but there wasn’t that there the

[26:26] the interaction between them was a little bit more subtle uh like the the violence was a little bit more turned down so I think

[26:37] to get the I think the game designer is trying to get the catharsis of of the the feedback of of winning a fight or shooting the bad guy or things like that

[26:49] sometimes that might have overshadowed uh the charm of the character so then when they get back into just their normal self yeah it’s

[26:58] it’d be like if Jeremy rener was like cracking a whole bunch of jokes in the hurt Walker like more so than but like it’s that same sort of

[27:07] aspect like you can tell what Drake is looking for in his life like you can tell he has that sort of

[27:15] hurt Walker syndrome where it’s like I this this doesn’t feel right to me like this isn’t the life that my body naturally gravitates to that my soul

[27:25] naturally gravitates to like I need the adren I need the adventure

[27:31] um but like I don’t know the level of joking around I think sometimes I I could see it clashing with with breaking somebody’s neck

[27:45] um so yeah I don’t think there’s ever really been I’m as I said I’m really early in the game but I see a lot of

[27:54] longing for him to go back to that sense of adventure and that his his Globe trotting ways but I don’t know whether and I

[28:05] haven’t really heard anything about this yet so maybe I’m wrong or maybe it doesn’t exist but not much like he has a lot of personal reflection about missing

[28:14] out on New Adventures but not a lot of personal reflection on how many mercenaries he’s murdered and like I I’m cool with him

[28:23] having reflection about having to give up the trade but like maybe a little bit of time spent on reflecting on the benefit of

[28:32] like well by giving up the trade I don’t have to shoot people in the face with a shotgun so there’s that um what what’s the last um I can’t remember the numbers

[28:41] like what what’s the last thing that happened in your playr six yeah I’m in I’m in Italy right now uh about

[28:50] to like a heist mission the Mansion Black Market auction yeah the brother right M okay so I my there’s one thing that the other only thing that bothered

[29:01] me about it and it’s all I’d call it nitpicking and it doesn’t detract from the overall this is still one of the greatest things I’ve ever played like um

[29:09] I I wouldn’t call it like my favorite game of all time but to say that you to play this is still to say this is an achievement in gaming this is

[29:17] unbelievable um so I don’t want to phrase anything I’m saying to try to detract from that but the the thing that’s bothered me and I think Gavin

[29:24] already you’ll be able to see that it’s coming is just the very sitcom esque version of okay I’m just not going to tell my wife what I’m actually doing and

[29:33] it’ll be fine it’s just like you know in What scenario in ever like have you never watched Friends like do you not know how do you not know clearly how

[29:43] this is going to turn out like it’s like what you’re gonna get to the end of the game and like and she never found out it worked out great the end it’s like just

[29:53] like but as soon as it started to come up I’m just like dude she was was even like she was pushing you to go back to it just come on don’t lean on this Trope

[30:02] I hate this Trope just yeah and like like if you wind up like dead from this because like this line of work there’s a lot of

[30:13] bullets like do you really want your wife’s last thoughts when she finds out of your demise to be like oh that’s son of a like you don’t want her to be yeah

[30:24] like it’s bad enough that she lost her husband but like to lose her husband in a lie you know it’s I don’t know it’s just sort of insult to injury really

[30:34] like bad enough that you’re going off to risk your life to try to save and like honestly like would she not have understood like hey you know that

[30:43] brother I thought died you know and I guess this isn’t a spoiler it like the first chapter um yeah it turns out he’s alive uh but he might die if we don’t do

[30:53] this thing so I gotta try to save his life um so I guess I’m getting back into the game uh as per your suggestion but now instead of helping this other guy in

[31:05] Malaysia I’m helping my brother Escape certain death uh do I have to pick anything up from the store on the way home like

[31:16] milk milk or eggs or anything lost loot buried under the sea no but I mean like like Family Matters Fresh Prince ofel a friends like any any sitcom you can

[31:29] watch like four episodes and I guarantee you’ll see one where this plays out and it never ever has worked out well even

[31:38] sitcom’s aside anybody with a wife knows the pure unquestionable reality that she will eventually know so don’t

[31:52] lie that’s it that’s a message that’s a message to the kids out there yeah everybody that’s a message to the husbands out there yeah Nathan don’t lie

[32:02] to your wife especially considering her wife is like an investigative journalist like come on of all the wives to lie to she sees through lives like for a living

[32:15] like like being able to see oh that person’s got more to tell they’re just hiding something that’s her job that’s her job that’s all that’s what she does

[32:25] it’s her vocation it’s her craft like that is her skill trade and he decides roll those dice like come on man just like that part was slightly

[32:38] disappointing because as soon as he did it you know I’m just like I knew what was coming up like he knows everything else he knows how to solve the Mysteries

[32:46] but he doesn’t know relationships yeah he’s no clue he’s clueless she yeah always a little bit like yeah he’s been a little

[32:59] is everything else in in like all three games it’s like oh man you do not know what you’re doing yeah put on I can kill 10 guys with 20 different weapons but I

[33:08] can’t uh can’t kill my wife’s intuition exactly oh man the um yeah it’s I’m still going through I’m probably gonna

[34:04] quick before we wrap up the uh on the first flight when I was on my own I was able to play went back to my phone I dipped back into Final Fantasy 9

[34:13] where I had like the iPhone version of it um and where CL what the thing that the only thing really to note it’s still great I enjoy it the only thing to note

[34:21] of it was what’s great about revisiting games uh you’ve played to death like this is that when you come back in where classically on a game if I jumped in I’d

[34:33] arrive back especially in RPGs and I would have said where the heck am I supposed to go like what what was happening in this game like I don’t have

[34:40] any idea what’s happening or going on what am I supposed to do this game because I’ve done it I’ve played through it a number of times it just like oh I’m

[34:47] at this part and then I’m just GNA go step two and step three step four like I could pinpoint the exact moment in the game I was in so I was able to just keep

[34:54] trudging right through it it’s like oh WR this while still while simultaneously still being uh surprised and enamored with the same moments that came up like

[35:04] the first time what do you chalk that up to though is it like your memory was better when you were younger or you had more time because I have been struggling

[35:12] with that too and I remember every moment in Final Fantasy 7 but I’ve only actually played through it once but I can recall everything same with the

[35:21] Simpsons quote like you give me a Simpsons episode I can quote anything in that episode you me like Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag that I’ve recently

[35:30] played I have no clue what I’m doing I have no nobody’s name I don’t know like is it because I don’t care or like I don’t know it’s just the dad apathy like

[35:42] yeah okay yeah it’s like whatever dude I don’t know what’s your name again I’m supposed to kill you no okay but those older games it’s like I knew every like

[35:50] heartbeats like every step every turn maybe it was a you had to to go through the game and now they kind of handhold you I don’t know but it was just

[36:00] interesting you mentioned that maybe it’s because like we’re so enthralled with it we were better tuned in I mean Gavin I think you just use the word

[36:08] apathy that might be the perfect word for because like now it’s another game and you’re enjoying it but like sure ding ding ding ding but then it was

[36:15] that’s that’s the game like that’s that’s the thing you’re playing right now yeah so per and perhaps that has a better ability to like stick in memory

[36:26] or it’s youth one or the other yeah I think it also like it happened with film too like there’s certain movies that you watch that just like

[36:36] just glue themselves to the back of your eyeballs um and there’s like just certain setpiece moments and just but then there’s other movies that all like

[36:46] that were completely enjoyable but then like you’re not even home from the theater like wait what did we see

[36:58] so yeah it’s it’s but that said like you know I could probably get through most of the script of Ghostbusters on my own uh and there’s a few other movies in

[37:11] that list too that I’ve I I just watched over and over and over and over again as a kid you like Indiana Jones and and

[37:20] whatnot uh where now like I think it’s a lot harder for a film to really take root in my memory um you know I think something

[37:33] like Mad Max was one where there was just like oh yeah I know what’s coming next and like watching it for a second or third time it’s like I know what’s

[37:40] this I know this shot I know this shot’s coming um but like you know there’s other movies where they’re a little bit more

[37:50] jumbled in in my head and like oh wait oh wait no that’s not this movie that’s the other movie um especially and this is in no way um

[38:02] like a critique on the quality of the films but the Marvel uh movies I sometimes they just because they are so intertwined sometimes you’re like oh

[38:15] wait no that wasn’t Civil War that was Captain America or was that in the first Avengers or Alon or no maybe that was the Guardians of the Galaxy reference

[38:24] when did that happen they all blur together now the Galaxy of Ultron I just don’t is there a raccoon in there what are we

[38:32] talking about yeah happening so Captain America fight a raccoon I can’t yeah the Winter Soldier is the Winter Soldier a tree I just can’t seem

[38:43] to remember the type of spruce oh so yeah choc it by the way but it’s um despite all that like you still come into moments that even much like

[38:54] even if you know the moment is coming to relive it is still fantastic yeah it’s so much fun to be in it and in some ways too and having that little bit of

[39:02] expectation like oh boy boy oh boy here it comes here it comes I still get that feeling every time watching uh aliens and like rly

[39:10] comes into the into the hanger with the power loader yeah right before that line just like I get that same sense of anticipation like oh here it comes it’s

[39:18] my go-to movie too whenever I’m in the mood for a movie and I don’t know what to watch I’ll be like n I’ll put on alien or aliens yeah so good watched it

[39:27] a hundred times it’s so good though I love it set design and anyway all all it yeah Dan

[39:36] it all right Jen so I think we’ll swiftly move on to our beer picks of the week Gavin as he Tak final

[39:46] Jud he’s judging um okay so my beer pick was actually inspired by playing some Uncharted um The Heist scene in Italy at

[40:00] the black market auction thing um took place in an area of Italy that uh at least from what it looked like um that was a a place that I’ve actually had the

[40:15] pleasure of visiting which is monteroso which is the northernmost uh area of the choa region um I got to spend some time in Italy back in college I get about six

[40:27] weeks um so one weekend I was still in Florence and kind of getting tired of my roommates and I just wanted to bug her off somewhere uh so I checked with one

[40:38] of the faculty members about just like any recommendations uh they recommended this area and so I grabbed a train ticket and

[40:46] just took the long weekend and left the rest of wow of the students and just went off on my own um kind of like Nathan Drake you had

[40:57] bit get up on top of the train shooting guys and then like yeah shotgun blasts so yeah I went off um to this one place for for a weekend

[41:08] and uh it was amazing it’s uh what’s great about this area is like you go to the northernmost area and you can take like a hiking trail and the hiking trail

[41:18] runs down this nice Rocky coast and connects all these little Villages there’s five of them uh Chinko Tera means five lands um

[41:27] what’s also interesting too is there’s a lot of Old World War II relics like old like pill boxes machine gun nests and stuff um so those are really interesting

[41:35] to see and like there was one that I saw that the entire inside of it you could tell it had been sort of commandeered by gypsies so it was like some bed rolls

[41:44] and stuff so I like I poked my head and I’m like I think somebody lives here and I left um anyway so yeah seeing uh there was like while you’re trying to get into

[41:54] this one Villa in that Heist scene when you’re still like in your overalls um the coast that you’re overlooking kind of see a little village down on the side

[42:04] that just seeing that I’m like oh wow that looks so much uh like this area I visited and it brought back a lot of fond memories so I’m like okay I’m G to

[42:14] pick up some beer morti which is the beer that I drank a lot of while in Italy um and what I love too I’m going to try to get it to camera here not so

[42:28] the dude on it he’s like just blowing the foam off the beer like it’s just such a a great like I’m an old guy I’m gonna have myself a nice beer and blow

[42:37] the foam off the top because I don’t want that stuff on my mustache um yeah it’s it’s a good beer like it’s a really nice just sort of clean crisp refreshing

[42:49] beer um which is like it’s really enjoyable to have especially when like one of my one of my staple lunches back then was I’d get a a like a can of tuna

[43:02] in olive oil um which is the best way to have can tuna can tuna on water get rid of that stuff get the olive oil stuff that’s the way to go and I get a nice

[43:12] hunk of crusty bread and I just eat the tuna with the bread and I use the bread to soop up the olive oil which was infused with the tuna I know it sounds

[43:19] horrible but when you’re I was going to let you finish but je said this sounds

[43:26] when when when you’re a when you’re an art student traveling abroad that is one of the most economic ways to eat uh so you find the silver lining and you enjoy

[43:38] it and the other Silver Lining was the 68 Cent beer that was sitting next to me um and yeah like what was great too is over there like the the drinking laws

[43:49] are very relaxed um I think the Only Rule I saw the entire time I was there was in Rome and they don’t care if you drink in public just no glass bottles

[43:58] because of the riots so they’re like yeah it’s fine just no glass because if people get upset and somebody gets bottled in the head um so yeah there was

[44:09] times where it’s like I’d be sitting and enjoying my lunch and don’t worry it wasn’t always to usually it was like just like a mix of like anti pasty and

[44:16] stuff like that um uh but yeah usually I would have like a collection I’d have like a protein of some kind like salami or a tuna or

[44:27] cheese or something like that and like a nice hunk of really good crusty bread and I have like a nice can of beer or a bottle of beer depending on where I was

[44:35] with Cy was in and I just sit there in the warm afternoon sun and enjoy it and take a sip of beer wave at a police officer take another sip of beer um it

[44:47] was a it yeah so just when I saw that Coastline I’m like ah I got to get that beer and then when I cracked it open tonight and smelt the the aroma of I’m

[44:56] like oh wow yeah it’s like it’s even unique enough to trigger some of those memories um in my head so so yeah nice playing

[45:07] Uncharted REM about my travels in my younger days and made me want to drink a beer that I enjoyed a lot while I was there so it was elaborate beer

[45:17] commercial ever ever in the form of an 80 game actually I’ve ever seen it in a a tall booy Canadian for

[45:30] C oh man well well said Jeff top that um okay I got Keith’s and uh no no mine’s after a dance oh oh okay now being a dad and realizing that you’re not up to

[45:46] Snuff on a lot of the new dances uh this one’s called dab dab do you know what I’m talking

[45:56] about goto Jeff yeah do you know what dabbing is though you know dabbing is dabbing is dabbing so my six-year-old comes home from school no no and he’s

[46:08] like no Dad I’m gonna dab I’m like what what are you talking about he does the the dab he does the dab um I’m like okay I accept this dab away um so then we’re

[46:22] in the grocery store and he helps me pick out beer of the week because he likes looking at the pictures and he’s like now he can read he picks out dab

[46:33] which the beer oh my God good pick I like this one this one’s good crisp clean and I’ll dance to it this is a dancing beer right here in dab like

[46:45] that’s that’s one of my honestly that’s one of the ones I I get quite frequently yeah no good I think I ended up like became a bit of a household phrase for a

[46:54] while or a Dabble do you see perfect incor it’s a good clean refreshing ger beer like it’s just it’s good and it’s also very reasonably

[47:07] priced and it’s cheap yeah for for I can it’s it’s great but it’s yeah it’s a good beer it’s just like yeah I just want I want a beer and I just want it to

[47:17] taste like beer yeah just a stable beer that’s my yeah that’s my jam I’m happy that you uh that you enjoyed it because every so often drink it I’m like does

[47:26] anybody else drink this someone must has this been sitting here for five years like yeah no it’s good I’m on board nice

[47:37] man I can’t believe he does the dab sixy six-year old geez that’s all I ever saw a couple Jay’s games that I went to that’s all I saw on the jron was dabbing

[47:47] just just like 10 minutes of kids doing dabs like one after the other it’s just like geez it’s six-year-old they must love the fact

[47:56] that that’s a trend that company like yes it’s happening moment because it’s a German company so maybe it hasn’t made it across they have no clue like like

[48:07] what somebody call them this is the opportunity of a lifetime this is this is the moment for this to become popular tap into that Western

[48:17] Market I just want to see a bunch of like stuffy like German Brewers do the dance yeah I think that would be like in a commercial that would be great the oh

[48:28] the the misunderstanding at first is like what is this like what what do you mean yeah how do you mean dance of our beer that’s our beer not really a dance

[48:36] it’s like a move I like I like how Trevor kind of alluded is like how do you explain dance to like a German

[48:49] Brewer which honestly is pretty easy if you think of October Fest yeah yeah just like inting round and round you just throw your arms up and look the fool

[49:03] yeah it’s such a weird move too it’s such a bizarre move it’s one of those moves I’m like I’m like all right kids you have fun with that I’m just gonna be

[49:13] over here and be old stick to the Beer thanks yeah I’ve chosen my dab a dab will do you he

[49:23] says so the I should have on first stop that my star is nowhere near as romantic to either of those ones the and I think I might have referenced this

[49:34] one before I swear I had at the local craft place but very few times have I had a beer and said okay I need to have a second beer of this one because it was

[49:44] so tasty and and it’s not combination of being like easy drinking approachable and then like just

[49:52] incredibly tasty so not in a sense that this is now the tastiest beer I’ve ever had or the one that I’m now going to switch to completely but just something

[49:58] about it hit every note perfectly that after I had one it’s like I now have to drink another like there’s not gonna I’m not going to be stopping here this needs

[50:06] to be more of it so it’s from uh Kona brewery and it’s big wave golden ale okay now the golden ale part I swear that it’s one of the ones that I had at

[50:17] a Craft brewery and mentioned on a previous show but yeah just like uh one had one two one night and two the next night and just it’s you know one had to

[50:25] follow the other one and uh which it’s just kind of it was bizarre to me like how much impulse I had to have the second

[50:33] one generally it’s like a beer enjoy it and tap it off but the the thing too I bought a couple of their other ones um they were all

[50:43] great so out of the three beers that I tried for the brewery while I was there um all three were just excellent so to the point of which I’d say anything from

[50:52] Kona Brewing Co you’re going to likely be in good shape shape so Kota Brewing Co big wave golden ale so it’s I don’t know if it’s so

[51:02] we’re in La so like it’s that much closer to it I don’t know if like the freshness the relative freshness of it on that Coast as opposed to this Coast

[51:10] yeah play part yeah yeah so by the time you get over to this side maybe it’s like garbage so I have to see if I can find it and test it

[51:20] but uh man that was oh it was delicious and nothing nothing particular note like it’s not crazy banana and cloves or um you know super distinguished like a

[51:30] Guinness it was just who was there solid tasty beer man I really happy with it good and there’s a dance named after the big

[51:39] way all the kids are doing it I was playing this game and I I was Nathan Drake on waves and I said to myself well I feel like

[51:49] try to like Usher in a dance move of just an old man blowing foam off a beer yeah I see that it’s like it’s a head

[51:58] Bob you got the head motion like it’s yeah got P lips I gu like a blowing motion yeah I’m not I’m gonna stop you there

[52:08] Trevor did I just kill it did I kill it before it started see when you’re talking about hand motions and csing your lips go on I’m listening okay not

[52:19] sure I understand I don’t know if you elaborate a little bit more well let’s just say you’re dancing with a Shake Weight
