[0:00] gotta i put on the spf like 70 and just keep on it no i i had a mild tan but it’s already started to dissipate uh but i even spend a lot of time like lying in

[0:10] the sun i’m more of a i find a shady spot chill if i’m in the sun it’s usually i’m walking up and down the beach that’s like my favorite thing

[0:17] to do is i just pace down the beach plotting plotting thinking about life

[0:25] throwing stones occasionally as music plays staring out into the vastness of the ocean just thinking about insignificance

[0:32] you know what does it all mean what does it all mean i just look at the ocean the ocean just whispers back nothing

[0:40] [Music] oh the the adult beverages are poor the kids are asleep welcome to new dad gaming a

[0:53] show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name is trevor and i have a one and a half year old

[1:00] my name is gavin and i have a like a 17 month old yeah yeah is it that weird like am i almost at one and a half

[1:09] getting there yeah it’s a suffrage right there i went through it yeah close uh and i’m jeff i have an almost four-year-old and a six-year-old

[1:19] geez four-year-old that’s nice he’s basically a person now oh yeah he’s a little person he has his own thoughts feelings wants needs

[1:30] and what does that even like this could be a hard question to ask about like man i think about that all the time like i’m really

[1:34] anxious and excited to talk to my son because i i’ve had a conversation you can’t have a conversation with you man i don’t know what he’s like yeah i’m so

[1:42] anxious to talk to him what’s that if you can try to like juxtapose him as a one-year-old and now him as a four-year-old like what’s it

[1:51] like to talk to him is it uh well it’s totally like it’s a totally different experience right you’ll get

[1:58] glimpses of what the behavior was like but that’s about it like you’ll get you know the mannerisms and maybe the

[2:05] temper tantrums that come by that come by in conversation but other than that they’re kind of like their own person that wakes up if that makes sense

[2:15] because kind of like they’re they’re interested and they can do more things and they get well with uh

[2:22] my youngest he is interested in the older um older things to do with his brother so

[2:28] um yeah no it’s a hard thing to explain but yeah you can definitely talk to them and kind of figure them out but they’re different than when they were

[2:36] younger my my youngest when he was a baby was he was crying all the time he had stomach issues that we found out later

[2:44] you know non-stop like screaming in your ear so he’s not that now so it’s great i can actually talk to him

[2:51] that’s a great chance did anyone particular thing take you by surprise like he started to vocalize something you’re like i can’t believe you’re like

[2:57] that or more um what he does he’s really into art which is crazy because he really wasn’t like that when he was younger he wasn’t into anything

[3:07] uh remotely like hands-on um but my oldest son who’s six almost seven he was the builder so i could totally tell that as a as a baby he was

[3:18] building stuff he’s in a lego now he can do 12 year old lego stuff not a problem like he’ll build anything but not into art he doesn’t like to draw

[3:26] he doesn’t like to paint and my youngest totally into that so it’s just that was a surprise for me my uh

[3:34] so i don’t know it can be a different you’ll see when uh they’re probably like two and a half i think because gavin are you finding um

[3:42] are you finding some impatience with wanting to speak with your daughter um no because they’re actually uh we’re finding methods to communicate um like

[3:53] there’s no real word forming stuff going on right now but like we’ll ask her

[3:59] questions um sometimes and she will respond like um she’s actually starting to go like uh yeah

[4:08] um as like a positive sort of like like a yay or nay yeah um but also too like if you know

[4:16] well like she’ll come over and sort of fuss and they’ll be like do you need a fresh bum

[4:21] and she’ll like grab us by the hand and take us to the change table and wow oh so you do so it’s like she is finding ways to communicate to us that

[4:29] there are certain things that she wants or needs um like a sippy cup or a tv ring um and like sometimes she’ll like lead us

[4:38] to the place that she wants the thing from uh because she knows where they are like if i ask her do you want a tv like she goes to the fridge because she knows

[4:47] that we keep them in the freezer um or if i if like you want a sippy like she goes to the part in the kitchen

[4:54] where she knows the cups are so she’s communicating by way of sort of like pantomime i guess uh we’re starting we’re starting to get

[5:05] a little bit of um like paying back in regards to uh having understanding of her wants and

[5:13] deeds uh i think that’s a big thing with the communication because like before they can do that like it’s just a guessing game like you’re kind of like

[5:21] okay they’re crying let’s go through the checklist um where now it’s a little bit a little bit better a little bit easier to

[5:29] sort of uh get that bounce back as far as like okay is it this or is this and

[5:34] now it’s you can sort of ask them and they’ll kind of so that’s sort of what i’m getting but

[5:39] i am looking forward to her just straight up giving me words and dialogue and i’m i’m more less impatient and just more

[5:46] excited for why she does start to talk because then there’s cool stuff that we get to do yeah yeah it’s probably the better word to

[5:54] use i think the uh it’s interesting you’re getting the positives because for us it’s mostly uh negatives we’ve nicknamed them since mr

[6:01] no because because he’ll find like he’ll tell us when he’s soiled himself so he’ll call

[6:09] it popo so like you know what’s happened and that’s great it’s like okay let’s go change no no no no no no

[6:16] he waves his hands it just keeps saying no like backs away from you like come on it’s like let’s be clear baby i don’t want to do this either

[6:24] so that’s funny that’s hilarious if you want to go ahead and figure out how to go to the washroom by yourself i’d be real happy but

[6:31] otherwise we got to do this let’s dance let’s pick this up but yeah so if he doesn’t want it or if he’s changing or you’re trying to put

[6:38] him in the bed and he doesn’t want that’s just that back up and no no no no no there’s always always a hand wave too

[6:44] which is just like actually yeah it’s not even a handwave it’s like one finger like no no no oh it’s fortunate it’s so funny

[6:53] uh but gentlemen let’s uh before we get into the main topic of the week we’d love to hear what your week has been like with uh well i guess we’ve kind of

[7:00] covered parenting a bit uh but yeah how’s your week been with uh fatherhood and gaming

[7:08] um i’ll go first because i’ll just go first uh week’s been good um we went on vacation to mexico which was fantastic it was a

[7:19] lot of fun traveling the toddler is an adventure and a half um but we had a great time she played in

[7:26] the sand and surf flashed around and we got some good quality family time uh during naps my wife and i got to take turns having just

[7:35] good quality relax on the beach time and uh yeah all in all it was a lot of fun she made some friends on the beach like

[7:42] other little girls that she’d run over and play with and stuff and uh this other little boy from like calgary

[7:48] um another little girl from i think korea and uh yeah it was quite a mix of friends like her the other two girls

[7:56] she’s playing with her like their parents are like hungarian and romanian and they live in detroit um so that was a very international

[8:04] family um yeah i know it was a really fun trip so uh as far as the gaming front goes uh obviously not a lot of that

[8:12] um but since we also haven’t really been chatting for quite some time uh this being the first podcast in a little while um i did finish mafia three

[8:22] uh thoroughly enjoyed the story i played through all three endings um and uh but like not like basically just you do an ending and it puts you right

[8:34] back to the choice point so it was pretty easy to go through just basically i played all three cut scenes and then decided what one i want to choose as far

[8:41] as permanent and like i like that one that one makes the most sense but uh no it was good narrative but the

[8:48] game itself had a few glaring issues mechanics and bug wise um but overall though i enjoyed it it was fun i had a good time with it might not

[8:57] jump back into it anytime soon but uh i definitely had fun especially unraveling the story and i just started uh sinking my teeth into deus ex uh mankind divided

[9:08] so um so far that’s been feeling pretty good it’s a couple control things where i

[9:13] wish they’d let me just individual remap a couple things i’m like i wish just this one and this one i could swap them just trade them in for one another but

[9:21] instead it’s all just control schemes so you have like one of four or five to choose from rather than like being able to remap

[9:28] individual inputs where it’s like so i’m not sure like somebody who has uh particular needs in regards to accessibility um they might have a hard

[9:38] time with it in the sense of like well you don’t have the option to completely customize you just pick some presets and if

[9:45] one of those four presets don’t meet your needs with accessibility you’re done so it’s like

[9:53] that’s it like you’re kind of stuck with what you can find like you find the best scenario and that’s it so i i kind of hope that maybe in an update it’s like

[10:02] just let me map some stuff come on just let me please just let me have the sprint beyond the l3 please because oh that’s

[10:11] gross yeah yeah it’s like sprint is triangle and cover is l3 and i’m like why can’t i switch because like when you panic oh that’s

[10:21] down yeah i’m like why don’t i wear this triangle and i wish i could just switch it around

[10:28] but they won’t let me do it uh and then like the scheme the control scheme where like uh

[10:34] l3 is sprint all the other button mapping is less ideal like i like everything about their button mapping except for

[10:41] sprint and cover i just want those to switch um because i think i don’t know running and directionality should be on the same

[10:50] input and cover can be a facebook as it is in a lot of other games and i get trying to do something new i appreciate innovation

[10:59] but then there’s also something to be said about muscle memory and conventions um and it’s finding a balance between

[11:06] those two and i think unfortunately in this case it’s just i don’t know maybe i can relearn but i don’t want to because i don’t want to have to

[11:14] honestly i don’t want to have to go back to like these sweet calluses

[11:22] i have honed these muscles and fine tune them um so yeah but anyways overall though the game is enjoyable they did do a lot of stuff with like the hud and ui

[11:33] that you can customize like the hud and what’s available what’s not so if you want to sort of minimalize uh how much information’s up there you

[11:40] can which i really appreciate uh sort of tone down the clutter and the busyness um

[11:46] and then yeah the storyline is so far it’s quite interesting they did a good thing at the beginning of the game where there’s a 12-minute video that recaps

[11:53] the events of the previous game so it gets you up to speed so that way you understand why 12 minutes yeah

[12:00] quite the commitment yeah but it’s actually because i beat the previous game but even then it was so long ago i forgot what transpired so

[12:09] to have that little refresher about everything that went down it really does give a good explanation as to why the world is reacting the way it is why

[12:17] things are happening and why things are going down it’s like yeah i need that like previously on lost like i need that thing

[12:24] just to get my my head back in the game so so although it was 12 minutes long it blew by pretty quick it was well edited

[12:33] so it felt like uh like a pretty smooth piece of footage so by the time it was all done i’m like oh wow yeah you crammed an entire like

[12:42] 20 hour play session of information into 12 minutes so that’s a lot of information digestion and they pulled it off so i appreciated that for

[12:50] the sense of like just narrative structure and understanding why people are doing what they’re doing so yeah that’s about it travel with a

[12:57] baby played some games uh jeff yourself uh my week’s been going okay in terms of

[13:06] fatherhood i guess my wife and i are fighting off a cold so we’re waiting for that to make its rounds to the kids and then

[13:13] back again so stay tuned six or seven times through yeah um so other than that the kids are just running around testing our patients

[13:22] a bit uh as we’re kind of half half power here um trying to get through the days um in terms of gaming though

[13:31] uh my oldest son and i are racing for the best farm in uh stardew valley [Music]

[13:38] i’m winning um but i am totally over there actually so no um

[13:46] no gimme no like no help no uh handicapped for newer players they showed the basics and they’re like this is yours

[13:53] you’re on your own you manage it this household we don’t uh we don’t pull favorites here so no no yeah yeah you

[14:01] want to go out and uh go buy some more food instead of watering your crops you do that now see where that gets you

[14:08] no but generally too you control his game time and his bedtime yeah if you ever did get ahead you’re

[14:16] just gonna totally oh yeah as you said destroying them now but uh oh i think you’ve had enough video games

[14:23] for today yeah you’re getting too far ahead but no it’s a great game um it’s basically harvest moon if you haven’t

[14:31] heard of it um kind of a pixel art game i did buy it on steam when it was on sale but then that really wasn’t working on it so i

[14:39] bought it on ps4 because it’s on there [Music] so it’s a great little game for him to

[14:44] learn because he loves math and um to buy certain fruits and vegetables he has to have enough money and then you

[14:50] have to plant them water them that responsibility of going around meeting people coming back going to sleep there’s really no consequence beyond

[14:59] just kind of wasting your energy and passing out and then waking up the next day and losing a little bit of money but there’s no death

[15:06] in it or anything so he can kind of run around do his own thing and learn from it so it’s a good learning experience for him i think just to kind of

[15:13] um kind of get more control on those kind of mechanics he’s used to platformers which is kind of like a very side scrolling um type thing so this is

[15:22] almost semi not 3d but like an over overview of a map kind of thing so he can navigate that

[15:30] and as i said i’m having a blast with it and that it’s hard it’s one of those games where you’re like just one more day and the

[15:37] only way to save in the game is to sleep so you have to complete the day so that kind of pushes you to to the end and then you wake up the next day and

[15:47] you’re like well you know what’s hatched what’s what can i harvest what can i go and it’s kind of sunny out maybe i’ll go to the mines and get some rocks and

[15:54] stuff and by then it’s midnight and you’re like well i shouldn’t have done that uh and then you wake up sick so um no it’s a great game i highly

[16:03] recommend it and again all made by one guy if you did all the art all the music all the development and now he’s got help porting it so

[16:11] it’s a good 15 bucks kind of thing so that was my dude my week i love that you’re patient zero because you neglected your own

[16:22] your own surroundings because you’re too busy in this virtual form it’s actually our simulator live my life in there thanks

[16:30] oh that’s all right um yeah for myself as i mentioned um is kind of in pre-roll but generally things are doing great with a family uh

[16:39] son’s definitely pushing back a whole bunch generally speaking he’s he has two jobs which is to eat and to sleep yeah and he’s awful at both of his jobs

[16:48] like just piss poor at the two things he’s supposed to do so we’re getting a lot of pushback recently on eating which is for a parent

[16:55] it’s just the most infuriating worrying thing because he’s gotta eat to live please but uh

[17:05] generally still like uh happy healthy still running around so he’s getting it from somewhere and uh starting he’s starting to reject naps as

[17:12] well yeah which is sad because those times you come to rely on that hour or two in

[17:20] the afternoon very heavily and to see it start to go is oh it should it should last for a while though they still do it in

[17:27] like preschool so three yeah it’s not it’s not a full rejection but there’s just been enough times when he’s

[17:34] like really pushed against it or it’s just like it’s so hard to get it to happen so

[17:39] still doing great though uh game wise we looked i bought um enter the gungeon elias is a yeah

[17:47] isometric uh it’s like an isometric pixel version of borderlands in some ways and it’s uh more of a roguelike than the borderlands

[17:56] ever was and it’s so clever it’s such a blast it is a fantastic fun game great dad one too because it’s

[18:04] there’s really not much comment um uh outcomes for one particular playthrough like you just kind of jump in you play try to get through it

[18:12] there’s some leveling and some progression but not much so you get in you die you or you just have to quit out there’s not much of a recourse for it

[18:20] and but just like the so much cleverness and beautiful design and the pixel work that they’ve done like it’s clever it’s fun

[18:27] the guns are hilarious much like borderlands so the uh i just just love it just having a great time and otherwise uh

[18:35] i started to started back in the street fighter oh my god it continues i had dropped it for so long like he

[18:44] won’t he needs to go back and experience and it’s just like in i don’t know what it just i think i ran

[18:52] across a couple of videos and there was all this um bit of an uproar because it’s a new season they released a bunch and then

[18:59] they did a bunch of patches which threw the community into a bit of a furor about it uh they made some buffs like so some characters are

[19:05] just way too strong they introduce new characters and just seeing all of it and then seeing some replays from some tournaments just like

[19:12] man i just said oh that looks fun let me go try you’re that friend in the group who always like goes and starts dating that

[19:21] girl like he’s breaking his heart and like all your friends are like why are you don’t go back

[19:29] like do you not remember last time like you you cried for a week into a tub of hagganahs like just like

[19:38] i would almost think the girlfriend analogy would be healthier than street fighter honestly it is actually a lot healthier than the streets everything

[19:45] i’m trying to i don’t know sugar coat it for you but yeah no yeah but enjoy so you know it’s uh

[19:53] especially for the it’s not not that not super dad friendly because if you’re in an online match if you’re going through that

[20:00] you can’t leave like you got to stay you got to finish it because if you quit there’s huge problems with it well they tend to be really short so it’s not a

[20:06] huge deal still there’s like all the training of it and all the progression that you’re trying to do otherwise and that tends to

[20:13] be just you’re in there you’re practicing i find it i’m starting to find a bit zen actually as far as trying to learn those moves and get a

[20:19] little bit better at it and coming back to it it’s like it feels a bit more familiar because i had done all that practice before on it

[20:27] so i don’t see where i still i have some quiet ambitions

[20:34] about still rising up no no that’s i’m not talking they have like it’s like it’s like you’re nothing and then it’s

[20:42] bronze silver gold if i in my life i got to perhaps silver i think that would be like a okay and then you give it up that’s it you’d

[20:53] bury it back and the only the only other secret one i would have is honestly if i ever made it out to a real life tournament just to lose i don’t care if

[21:00] it went just to just to maybe win one match at a real life tournament that would be fantastic but we’ll see i want to be a contender

[21:09] i want to do just one i could have done it the wizard of oz contender uh so the what was interesting if you’d

[21:17] watch the news is that there is a version of street fighter 2 that is going to be solely released on a new console coming out

[21:26] called the nintendo switch the switch if you will nintendo you said nintendo nintuando what uh was that a

[21:40] german company still exists poor guys we you these oh god

[21:50] but um yeah so the relatively old news but we even had a chance to talk about it now i’ve come to understand that neither of

[21:57] you are excited for this console is that correct what i’m like wait and see kind of yeah like

[22:06] i the the portability factor of it has no bearing on me at all like i’m playing mexico you just think you could have brought it to mexico it would have been

[22:14] great i can play the switch at home i can’t play in the sand at home like you go to mexico to do stuff you can’t do at home

[22:22] that’s where you and i different like i i have one game on my phone and i haven’t played it in months like i don’t really i’m not a

[22:34] portable game sort of person like i like to sit down i pour myself a nice drink i put my feet up and i relax it’s i i like my little quiet place to do my gaming

[22:44] i’ve never really even like back when i was a kid like i never really wanted a a game boy or anything like that because i’m like no i’m outside i’m riding my

[22:53] bike i don’t want to be on that thing like i’ll go home and then i’ll play a few hours of mario like i’ll i always like that separation

[23:02] like if i’m like when i saw the nintendo switch trailer when it first got announced and i saw some guy like his dog’s like hey can you take me outside

[23:09] and like build a lasting relationship with me and he’s like yeah whatever and he just like lets the dog go and run

[23:15] off like he’s playing his game and i’m like dude like you’re missing an opportunity to build a bond or it’s like hey come to our

[23:23] rooftop party because like that only happens like once in a lifetime yeah but i’m gonna bring my toy with me it’s like come on like that’s the stuff about it

[23:31] that doesn’t really appeal to me that said if there’s a component to it that is uh like if

[23:39] if the living room version of it uh provides a nice experience i’m on all years but right now most of what i’ve been

[23:48] seeing most of what they’ve been talking about is a portability factor um and like some other uh

[23:55] components of it that that like the motion control and stuff like that uh which i think is cool like that that arms game looks neat

[24:03] but at the end of the day like it’s about the the titles that will be available on it like

[24:09] you can have something really interesting but like if there’s nothing for it then what are you gonna do

[24:14] um yeah so yeah myself i’m i just i but i’m also not like a big person to hop on hype train like it’s

[24:22] the same as the vr it’s like i’ll wait and see if i have access to one i’ll try it out i guess but i’ve never been

[24:29] someone who’s like i gotta get in line day one i need it like even my ps4 i bought that like it was already a year into its uh

[24:37] into its lifespan before i even hopped on board uh so yeah i don’t know i got i’ll wait and see if it turns out to be something

[24:44] i’ll get great if not hope somebody likes it that’d be great um well my thoughts i would say nintendo’s

[24:53] kind of going through like a weird identity crisis like before

[25:00] we the wii when it was it that was a genius console just because it introduced something new it was cheap i think the

[25:07] launch price was like 250 and it could be a second console right so the people that had the playstations and the xboxes could like it was cheap enough to buy a

[25:17] wii and it was bundled with a game that taught you the mechanics of the new controllers right in a roundabout way

[25:24] made it fun and little did people know they were learning the controls of the wii so then you come into the switch

[25:32] it’s 399 in canada which now ps4 and xbox is 100 bucks cheaper almost it doesn’t come with a game it has a portability function that the

[25:43] ps4 and xbox already do technically they can remote into either a phone or the vita or a tablet um the only thing it has really going

[25:54] for it that would pique my interest error the games so like the mario zelda’s splatoon i’m not so sure about

[26:01] but they’re launching with like very little games and that was the problem with the wii u is they had no support after like the

[26:08] first year and it lasted what four or five years and then they were out so i think that’s another worry they should have

[26:14] come with their best games like right off the bat saying this is not gonna happen we got metroid we got mario we got pokemon we got whatever

[26:23] and just like kill people with games and not only their games but they need a third party support third party yeah because like

[26:30] you’re hearing things like randy pitchford from gearbox saying that like they had discussions with the switch um like with nintendo about uh borderlands

[26:40] 3 and like those those negotiations fell apart um

[26:46] so it’s like when you hear of like third-party studios that are are actively talking with nintendo about trying to get

[26:53] uh their content with with that console and those those discussions are are falling apart and crumbling you don’t know like oh

[27:02] is this is this which side of the negotiating table is causing these uh

[27:08] these fallouts so yeah it’s you could have the most interesting hardware on the planet but if if you

[27:16] don’t have anything in regards to software to make that hardware enjoyable then like you’re kind of just got a really

[27:24] really nice decorative element on your mantelpiece that’s about it like like

[27:31] i’m pulling for them i don’t want them to fail but yeah i hope they do well like now they’re charging for online and stuff like yeah you’re up another 100

[27:39] just to get this console playable like out of the box and that’s not for my son that’s not the target anymore it’s probably for me

[27:46] and i’m not so sure that i’m their target anymore either like it’s most like you just around with like even with your

[27:53] your boys i thought that um some of the portability helped like grabbing the two side controllers snapping those off bringing the thing

[28:01] into the car and kind of just hanging it on the back seat and having your boys being able to play it or if you did go to some other place

[28:08] like that kind of a mobile entertainment version of it for the kids i i suppose i’d more seen it from your angle on that that would be

[28:16] some appeal to it when you have two they fight over everything so it’d be me turning around trying to separate them right

[28:25] let me let me tell you how two works i almost think that like my oldest son has a 3ds he’d have his 3ds playing and then i would get another maybe 2ds for

[28:35] my my other son eventually i couldn’t see them trying to play together on one console with peaceful intentions at all even if

[28:45] they kept the controllers from flying across in the middle of the car it’s just a really good point too about like the the ds and the 3ds and how like

[28:55] the portability factor of that device was was quite brilliant because it was very pocket friendly where like the switch

[29:03] nobody has pockets that big nobody’s had pockets that big since the 90s so that sort of like yes it’s portable in

[29:12] the sense that you can take it out of your living room and it doesn’t weigh 10 pounds but it’s not conveniently portable um for

[29:20] like the ds and even the vita um they had a portability factor that was a little bit more oh

[29:32] oh waking up we’ll see but to your point i think i think they missed a console cycle i think if this

[29:41] happened instead of the wii u people more people might be on board just because none of the mobile game had like now they’re under the mobile market

[29:50] 3ds has kind of solidified itself like what happens to the 3ds after this does people just does it stop does it continue or does it

[29:59] is it cross-play it’s confusing i guess i’m hopeful for it because like

[30:05] as you mentioned like with the um but when the wii came out like that was just so refreshing and fantastic and fun like it was a fun system amongst a

[30:15] very heavy time yeah for contact what else is extreme games like hard x monster drinking monster like yeah gaming he’s like this is fun

[30:27] yeah that was the comparison right yeah but then you get into another and then the wii u felt like it

[30:33] was trying to too hard like i felt like i was trying so hard yeah and like and right away when you look at the wii you said yourself oh

[30:40] that looks really fun you got the controllers and you did it you played it it looked neat interesting everybody wanted to try it yeah we you i think

[30:48] you looked at it and you said yourself that that looks stupid like you look like a ripoff like a

[30:54] junkie like why would you have this huge thing that and i can even like you can remember

[31:00] back to the coverage like when the week came out there was that positivity around it when the wii u came out it was like what

[31:06] what are you thinking like what is the problem now this one of course like people are being tepid

[31:12] but at least it feels like there is this um without going overly casual or overly hardcore like there’s this mechanic to

[31:20] it that could actually serve somewhat which could be an interesting purpose and i can speak personally as far as like i tend to be quite mobile

[31:27] with work and everything else like i travel a lot and go to various places and people’s houses

[31:33] and it just seems like something that would actually be very interesting to be able to like just off you go especially the plane thing

[31:40] was like the thought of playing like having that full-on experience on a plane would be fantastic if i can get over my phobia of playing games in

[31:47] public but next episode we just i don’t know it’s you know you’re in a suit and like you’re going off to

[31:57] business meetings and you’re pulling out like mario and like it’s just nice but whatever you gotta get past it but

[32:04] that portability like to me still just seems to speak um my problem would be more that like now that i’d just gotten into

[32:13] playstation and also with like you know i had got into the vr the thought of plunking down another big chunk of cash for something

[32:22] like i am out for a while like i can’t possibly want to spend more on consoles that’s the factor too is it’s like is the thing

[32:31] that it does uniquely um [Music] worth the extra investment like when the

[32:36] wii came out there was nothing else like it and the thing that made it unique

[32:44] was very fun very enjoyable and it had that same lure as vr is having right now where there’s no hardware out there like

[32:52] it um and it even had it more so because there was absolutely

[32:58] nothing like the week when it came out it was just the only game in town when it came to motion control

[33:06] um you know a few years later everybody else tried to catch up and didn’t really do it

[33:12] i think and like as you mentioned too the fun factor the and also the the

[33:19] worry-free factor about it um because it wasn’t a very expensive console people weren’t as hesitant to

[33:27] make that investment um and it had that allure factor so it’s like it’s inviting and it was economical

[33:34] we’re here because there’s so much confusion about well what exactly is it like what exactly does it do like is it a home

[33:42] console is it a portable unit what what what will it provide me in regards to entertainment that these other things aren’t already providing me

[33:52] and will there be concessions made because of certain aspects about it like the portability factor is it gonna create some issues with graphical

[34:01] fidelity because you can’t have dedicated video in the same manner as other because you have to compress the size of

[34:08] it hardware wise um [Music] yeah there’s so many unknowns about it

[34:13] that it’s hard to have that enthusiasm because you can’t be enthusiastic about a mystery box they may be on the price is right that’s about it

[34:22] but like where’s their like with the wii it was very kid-friendly like you could whip those controllers and they you know people

[34:29] whipped them at tv screens and they came out with wrist bands after that but you could step on those things and it would not

[34:36] destroy not crush it was crush proof the console itself was pretty much drop proof this thing is a screen truck it was like

[34:44] talker truck durability yeah yeah this thing just it feels like something where if your toddler reached for it you’d have a panic attack because one it’s

[34:53] really expensive to replace and two it doesn’t look like you could take a flight of stairs and

[34:59] it should be the test that we should do yeah like and that’s the thing is like as soon as something becomes portable and your

[35:06] past base market has been kids like that thing better be able to take a beating you know like the we the modes when they

[35:15] first came out like every single time it was wiimote versus television set the wiimote won [Music]

[35:29] so like they they made those things so hardy and they could take just brutal force and like unless

[35:37] unless the the switch has the same sort of durability as like a leapfrog tablet where it’s like it could get thrown off

[35:44] a balcony into a bathtub and it’s fine unless it has that sort of durability that we’re just not seeing because we don’t understand that it’s made of like

[35:53] you know an obtainium i just don’t yeah i don’t that’s my hesitation too and like not

[36:02] even in the sense of like my kid playing with it just me it’s like don’t put a bunch of money into something i’m going to chuck into a bag like i want to make

[36:07] sure it’s going to survive like i get freaked out enough about our camera and it’s not even that special of a camera so i don’t know portable electronics

[36:18] always are concerning because so much can go wrong uh that’s a lot of money to

[36:24] you know put into something like that and breath of wild though it looks awesome it looks great oh yeah it’s so big

[36:33] it does it looks but it’s like that becomes a very expensive zelda game if that’s the only thing 400 zelda game

[36:42] and nothing else this is this is my zelda machine yeah until what winter until you get mario

[36:48] and you’re like yay yeah and that’s the point it was like okay so many people bought the wii u and

[36:53] didn’t play anything but wii sports but that game itself like if somebody spent that much on like a foosball table for the basement it would still be fine

[37:04] like it’s not that big of a deal but if somebody spent like the switches price point on a foosball table in their basement they better really like

[37:13] foosball yeah so it’s that sense of like if it’s a dedicated device for one purpose of

[37:18] entertainment and especially if like if the games that are drawing people are single player it even loses that uh

[37:26] household like like you know the families who have a pool table or this and that is like here’s something that brings

[37:34] our friends together when they come to visit but if it’s solely a like a self-indulgent activity that’s worth 400 plus bucks

[37:44] and you can only self-indulge for one or two titles then it’s like is that one question psvr yeah

[37:53] one cool part i will add that i did kind of pique my interest again was um you could pair them with eight other um docs

[38:02] so somebody like everybody your friends could come over with all of their switches and they can all play nintendo said

[38:09] one cartridge could factor in eight people playing it and it’s up to the developer or the publisher to say you know does each

[38:16] person have to have a game cartridge or can it work off one so that might be a little bit murky but if it was one game and you invite all

[38:24] your friends over that has switches and you play mario kart or whatever that might be kind of cool so if you’re able to get and i just quickly ran the math

[38:32] here for the fun of it uh if you’re able to get uh 3 200 worth of tech in your home yeah you and

[38:40] seven of your friends could place a mario kart together yeah no yeah all right yeah that’s a good feature

[38:49] yeah it’s a really good feature sounds equivalent to what 2 and 64s with the 8 controllers yeah oh yeah i remember those

[39:00] i i didn’t buy the pro ones either i bought cheap ones oh the worst ones yeah the last guy gets the worst one by the way i think that

[39:06] comes over my house had got the worst ones and then you’re like hey you suck yeah that’s like that seems like the

[39:13] most ludicrous scenario you and your eight friends who all own switches well you better take off otherwise you

[39:23] won’t get that yeah those selling points to me a lot of them are very unique scenario

[39:32] like not very commonplace scenario the ice cubes and the controllers come on did you watch the presentation where they put the ice cubes in the

[39:40] controllers and like you could feel the difference whoa okay it’s like feedback on the rumble that’s great

[39:48] awesome get rid on that oh jeez so i say that’s uh

[39:55] a new dad take i guess we’ll have a one relatively positive and two wait and sees yeah for sure good way to score

[40:03] that least price drop yeah i would press drop slash game selection perhaps it’ll be curious to follow it up let’s say

[40:13] for the christmas season yeah next to upcoming christmas to see what they do the two factors for me is the like price has to go down and the library has to go

[40:22] up um that’s those are the two sort of components that would probably pique my interest

[40:28] but it really also comes down to like how viable is it as a living room console because portable factor for me isn’t a selling point because that’s

[40:37] just not how i like to enjoy that medium um it’s the same reason i don’t have an e-reader i kind of like the feel of paper on my fingers so i read book books

[40:46] um when you do that do you have like a corn pod pipe and you just call them both books

[40:55] and my pipe pipe and uh scotch scotch

[41:03] learn time uh all right gents i think with that uh it’s a good place to end it off no call it up i’m gonna go uh lukewarm

[41:14] reception yeah i am hopeful because i do like nintendo yeah

[41:21] but yeah i i really just want to wait and see i’m not uh the hype train can choo choo choo along without anything at all

[41:31] i just thought they would have done better because it nintendo did manage to bring us a switchblade to a knife fight but uh now
