[0:28] while yeah I don’t even have that right now Gavin the adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep welcome to New dad gaming show about fatherhood gaming and

[0:46] new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name is Trevor and I have a one and a half year old my name is Gavin and I have a one and a half year old and I’m

[0:54] Jeff I have a six-year-old in a three-and-a-half-year-old Philly so Gavin why are you not in the VR right now um cuz it’s neatly resting in a box

[1:07] the through a series of circumstances the my VR headset is going to be making the rounds with new dads over the coming weeks and at the moment it’s been

[1:19] dropped off at Gavin’s and is sitting unused in a box leaving some dad’s to wonder yep why Gavin is a music hit well I received it about 25 hours ago um at

[1:33] which point my living room had already been sort of claimed for the evening and in a polite sharing our entertainment area way and then by the time that had

[1:46] concluded it was almost midnight so then it was like okay I’m not gonna start setting this thing up when I’m ready to go to sleep because I had to work the

[1:55] next day and baby gets me up whether I want you or not so see I hit the bricks and then I worked then I just put the baby down with a while ago I might said

[2:08] I can’t really set up tonight because once again i just don’t think all the time but tomorrow night that’s prolly not gonna happen because it is

[2:15] Valentine’s Day don’t think that’s an appropriate time for me to jump down that rabbit hole okay um so then maybe wednesday if i can swing it try to send

[2:27] up it’s also just like I want to figure out if I can set it up and leave it set up because the way our house is set like the entertainment unit is very

[2:38] open-concept so baby has access to stuff and I just oh I want to make sure that like if I set it up you’re not going to get it back with a bunch of arrowroot

[2:49] scrammed in every little right now the real trick is that you probably if you search hard enough you’ll probably find error routes already in it problem well

[2:58] there you go so think like the prom is like well some of it is so i will say like with by the time you set up most of it the only real danger zone because the

[3:07] the camera that’s part of it hooks onto the top of the TV so that’s out of the way the real danger zone represents the cable that runs from tiny box that you

[3:16] set up beside it that runs to the headset and then of course the headset itself so if you kind of detached and sort that stuff both everything else is

[3:25] kind of out of the way and then when you’re ready to do it just take the helmet off the shelf and plug her in [ __ ] it enjoy the future I’ll say like

[3:32] the sort of scenarios for the scenario you described is kind of potential half realized because yet to set it up you definitely need to have access to the GV

[3:44] but theoretically / to do the output it has to be it has to input the box needs output to the actual helmet itself but then it also outputs to the TV because

[3:56] it has a kind of shared social experience it’s not required for every game so a lot of games will just go to the headsets so if you turn on the

[4:05] PlayStation with the headset like from the headsets specifically you’re just looking at your PlayStation screen you’re in your little box you’re the

[4:12] world and then the other person could totally be watching TV right so like you can actually be one person’s playing PlayStation looking like a dork with a

[4:21] big blue helmet the other person’s the other person staring at the TV I wonder what I like the use cases I’d thought what I thought would become a meat is as

[4:30] long as you could turn off the outside lights because of course is a big blue beaming lights yeah its technical maybe you could do something like in bed

[4:37] gaming where you don’t have to have the big TV just got this like big mask on zero Trevor you are a hopeless romantic yeah just tossing and turning like all

[4:49] over the bed expert your chivalry your your-your-your gentleman nature knows no bounds yeah hey sweetie well he also said oh don’t worry i want to play some

[5:02] games darling but i respect you so much I got this now that would be only for non you couldn’t do the air game because otherwise you have to have you know the

[5:13] camera and everything all set up but i like how that’s a hurdle yeah sorry out of it I did not it’s diving into a virtual world in a bed but like it’s

[5:27] like oh this is our marital bed but see ya I’m gonna go put their shoes like that’s not that we need the PlayStation camera i’ll say like man I this awful

[5:39] moment of guilt the other night because in the current place we don’t really have just because the current set up in our house like we don’t have a living

[5:48] room with a TV anymore so the only TV is really in the bedroom so that’s where the gaming system is and I finished up work really late and I want to just get

[5:56] a couple games and to relax before bed and my wife has emphatically said many times look I don’t mind it doesn’t bother me like I’ll just sleep through

[6:05] just go ahead and play the game and I’ll just be sleeping it’s just feels so rude and so inconsiderate we sit there just like dessert you have headphones right

[6:19] yeah yeah okay thank god that’s a cheat and that’s fantastic part of the PlayStation as far as like just plugging into the headset and getting it through

[6:26] yeah but even still like the light and just I’m imagine like the Furious like clicks on the bus go like man I appreciate it during but it does not

[6:37] feel cool look this doesn’t ya there I could see that feeling like like it yet sir I i even have trouble just like reading with a lamp on and feel like I’m

[6:51] being intrusive to their slumber but like to feel like click click click you know if you’re playing anything to that has even the slightest hint of

[6:59] frustration yeah those occasional moments of like Jack Frost it’s like Street Fighter they’re jumping up and down the bed dark okay yeah I don’t know

[7:14] just like the it feels like so many moments with the VR though like it’s just I keep wanting them to realize potential like be it with sporting

[7:23] events where either for live sporting event they kind of put you in a seat or you look how to pivot and watch things which would be exciting and maybe you

[7:31] can chop her out the different camera angles maybe there’s something with information on the other side like we’re like this other content that could be

[7:40] coming that they could use the medium like I’m just curious where they take VR in that sense yeah I think like the one thing that turns me from that sort of

[7:49] aspect it’s kind of the same thing that kind of concerns me from VR in general is the the isolating factor um like you got your head in a box so it’s not a

[7:58] very social experience like you literally have your head in a box so like I think would be fantastic for things like specialty sport channels

[8:09] where you get to sort of like reanalyze stuff and like for those like stat tracking like enthusiasts who are like watching classic games and then

[8:20] analyzing like okay what strategy work why did that play work as opposed to this you know if they had like you know a heads-up display that’s just covered

[8:29] in John Madden scribbles and stuff like that I think that could be really enthused like that could be a very enthusiastic following but I think for

[8:36] like live events you do lose that sort of aspect of like it’s like seeing a movie by yourself on netflix like just watching on your on your computer or

[8:48] seen that same movie theater with an audience around you reacting simultaneously a lot of times I shall that movies are more effective in that

[8:58] setting as opposed to solo like a really good example that was like The Blair Witch Project if you watch that one by yourself it’s not that awesome of the

[9:06] movie like it’s it’s good but it’s not that groundbreaking but when I saw it in the theater I remembered the the kind of the herd mentality shared emotional

[9:16] experience and that’s sort of boosting everything to 11 and the same with sporting events like when you are in a crowd like I’m not really much for live

[9:24] sports but when I go and see them all of a sudden I’m really into baseball because I’m there um it’s it’s infectious so I think with PR you could

[9:33] use that aspect but gain it in other aspects too so it’s like where would it fit in like live or before I pitch this one like uh I’m not particularly into

[9:42] racing Lee you can almost imagine in a mass car or a f1 race I’ll that’d be insane and they have the 360 cabinets in X and it’s a consumer purchase will

[9:52] project to have the Samsung 360 which is just a camera that you can record a 360 image you slap one of those things on top of the car or inside the cockpit and

[10:02] all of a sudden like you’re just in the cars it’s racing and then you get a cop around the different cars like it’s just the thought of the experiences that you

[10:10] could garner and I’ll say like and for the PlayStation I think if you ever do manage to set it up some of the experiences you’ll have like what

[10:19] they’ve cleverly done with the social sharing where games like keep talking nobody explodes some of the default ones that they have explained why they have a

[10:28] Western shoot-’em-up where the person can see first of the VR set is in the saloon and everybody else was watching TV has to describe the person he’s

[10:38] supposed to shoot and capture like there’s that like this is really fun interactive element between those in person in the world on the person

[10:47] outside of the world where I think that’s like they’ve kind of got that right mix and even with a sporting event that they did it right you’d have one

[10:54] you’d have the 360 thing going to the headset maybe just the normal events showing on the TV they can kind of like swap around and give everybody else kind

[11:04] of the experience of it because I think you’re right didn’t really like mentioning the racing like like that piqued my interest because it’s a

[11:11] way of observing that sport that is like to use VR to basically just put you in the bleachers it’s like yams I’m in the bleachers I could do this if I won’t do

[11:23] the money to buy a ticket to go see the thing um but there’s no amount of money to play pay to get strapped to the hood of like a Formula One car it’s not going

[11:32] to let that happen but to get the experience of being on the hood of a Formula One car and just being like a fly on the front and looking around

[11:40] while the racing mm-hmm or even like um but then for baseball ok forget the stands but what if a NHL for instance just introduced that camp that camp well

[11:53] close I mean for instance the NHL now has referee cams all right let’s constant yes all the replays now have the cameras that are placed on top of

[12:02] the referees heads I like they got like GoPros strapped to their helmets so same thing with the but you could be inside of the net and looking around you could

[12:12] for the baseball for the umpire like you’re right behind the plate on top the umpires head watching the pitch come in for that particular one and then you can

[12:20] switch like whatever maybe go to first base or like go to center field like I think if they’re creative with it ultimately I think you’re right if it’s

[12:28] just the you’re now in the stands like yeah or even think past sports right like I’m thinking National Geographic where they go to new places that you

[12:39] would never be able to go and actually with that too removes the idea of like losing with social experience and that share an emotional experience because

[12:47] with nature documentaries it’s not really thing you do in large groups of people eating guacamole like it’s you I don’t know what your Sundays like but ya

[12:57] know it is ailing what do you mean you sit around watching the Tigers get it on and no rhinos attack things and regular set their chips and do um ya know it’s

[13:08] but yeah I had that I think would be our thing to be able to transport yourself in a place that there is no plausible safe way to do it I think that is one of

[13:21] the things that it’s really going to help with um there are certain issues with like inner-ear stuff where let’s say you

[13:29] are on a bit of a NASCAR and and all of a sudden one will stock cars just eats it they’re like no this isn’t or anything would it be it’s like like

[13:42] right now your head because you’re in control of the view but then that control gets snatch away from like what if the umpire gets attacked by a bee and

[13:49] then all the sightings are scratching his head around it’s like there’s gonna be a lot of there you might have to have like a thickness bag like peripheral

[14:01] that hooks on to the BR set for like newcomer nasal it’s just like a little barf bag and just folks around your ears it just in case it’s just totally lose

[14:12] it cuz that’s an expensive piece of equipment you want to keep any mess okay she’ll be one who freely one let’s say if you do again if you do manage to get

[14:23] it installed there’s a couple 360 video apps in fact YouTube recently updated so that now you can watch 360 videos rain from the YouTube app but there’s also

[14:33] just two or three other video specific ones as a bunch of free videos and a lot of it includes flying through the sky swimming through the ocean and I’ll just

[14:42] completely like 360 stuff so you kind of get a bit of a sense of how that goes it’s a pretty sweet experiences right so we’ll see you next week curious think I

[14:51] think I might try to get it set up on the Wednesday just for the sake of it’s something I want to try and if it’s in big house right now and might as well

[14:59] try it because I’m not gonna she’ll a 500 bucks to try it but you know if it’s here Mazel except the generosity yeah why not i’m going to i’m pretty sure

[15:15] like I’ve already sort of been like okay wednesday i’m going to call him i’m calling dibs on the living room so hopefully i’ll be able to get a good

[15:26] good hopefully the setup will go nice and smooth and i’ll be able to get some quality time with thing and if i can get a setup where I can keep it baby-proof

[15:33] like hopefully get a couple nights of of some time in with it and then yeah and then it’s off to you I’m ready that I minded mum just go away in the middle

[15:49] of the night and just wake up and morning be like at what light this around your eyes art and kinky I didn’t I should be a clock in this thing or

[16:01] something oh cuz I’m almost where my TV set up it’s just in the basement away from everybody step or sense of time for day yeah which the dog could freak me

[16:16] out though if the dog just suddenly jumped on me so wonderful trying to think about it cuz obviously resident evil 7 represents the most incredible

[16:26] experience it exists but try to think like it doesn’t make a lot of sense for you to buy it no but this is a demo right maybe the demo has the VR in it ya

[16:36] know there’s a fear dem abuts very limited compared to the entire game you should do the demo certainly yeah we’re back yeah but the yeah but is there a VR

[16:45] demo and then the regular game demo cuz the game came out with a demo right like not the kitchen yet one but just don’t either I think others like a standard

[16:55] yeah as in an evil demo and it has a VR mode attached to it and that could you find out you should do a kiss me good day baby i was thinking like could you

[17:06] rent it restaurant and i couldn’t think to lie to me how on earth you’d rent it I’ll entrust the rent quit if that’s possible I don’t know where the other

[17:14] thing that might happen which I doubt would be at the library picked it up whoo maybe I’ll have to check resident evil maybe that’s the thing it’s pretty

[17:22] awesome so they’ve had other stuff that’s questionable yeah I mean lobbyists libraries seem to be one of the last bastions of games that you can

[17:30] just kind of borrow but thumb feels a little yeah i’ll check it out i’ll see cuz it would be interesting if even if it was the demo and say gavin did it and

[17:40] see how far he got before tearing it off cuz that thing looks crazy mm-hmm but do you need to experience what even just don’t lose it we are um

[17:56] the demo might include the are so yeah there we go happy queria nice we’ll see see you guys survive so the menu system did delete sorry so there’s only

[18:11] resident evil 7 being game that had been released if we do shift our attention to new dads hopeful games coming out two games new dads are excited about sin the

[18:23] next while the yeah John what the what X what games are exciting you at the moment that you’re excited to see camo uh I guess I’ll jump in um I wanted to

[18:35] well at least experience um horizon zero dawn that’s what it is right I can’t yummy it’s such a duck game I really was the Iranian to something else but just

[18:47] from the makers of Killzone doing a kind of Assassin’s Creed far cry robot dinosaur beasts kind of game go on looks interesting um the demos that they were

[19:00] playing where you can kind of take down these beasts in different ways the way like the like robot would work and they have weak spots and strengths that can

[19:11] go against your little character that’s running around with a bow and arrow and its back it’s kind of cool my only concern I guess what that game is that

[19:18] Killzone was very pretty and I had some good mechanics with it but the story was like me like it was very generic and we’ll see when reviews come out for this

[19:29] one cuz it looks it looks exciting it looks like there’s potential there but I’ve heard pre reviews where some things aren’t at the greatest or kind of

[19:39] glossed over where they worked really on the graphics and the game like they always do but the story kind of trails off so but that one I’m kind of looking

[19:47] forward to at least experiencing i don’t know if i’ll buy it but discount bin maybe holla split foot just wait two years and record that like three months

[19:59] like three months things are on sale for like 25 bucks or so I I do like keep an eye on stuff that I’ve kind of marked down on my list where

[20:08] check back in three months and there’s always a flash sale or something going on but that’s always that’s one to keep an eye on and I think persona 5 i’ve

[20:17] never played any of the personas but the next one if you’ve ever checked it out from a design perspective looks insane like there’s like a JRPG um Final

[20:29] Fantasy ask it’s the most JRPG it is it really is and just I don’t know I’ve seen some clips where they’re in the random battle thing and even winning the

[20:41] battle it’s all like one fluid design where it puts up your wins and trophies and all that as your characters kind of running out of the screen and just just

[20:51] from a graphic design perspective I want to experience it I don’t know if I like the game because what I read up on it it’s a weird high school dungeon kind of

[20:59] game so I’m not sure I’m all into that but um I don’t the aesthetic looks awesome on that’s good JRPG and like deep fried it in a melted JRPG coded

[21:12] another JRPG yeah yeah you’re talkin of JRPGs yeah but those look cool I don’t know yeah just trying to imagine how on earth you’d follow it like this like is

[21:23] it is it pasta is it approachable at all for a dad in North America I don’t know I honestly I would need a demo and they’d stop doing demos recently like

[21:35] only hears and there’s I wish they would do more demos cuz I don’t know that one looks like it that’s how that you love it or you hate it kind of thing or you

[21:45] can get it you don’t get it maybe I don’t know but those are the 2i I kind of look forward to I think forgettable um yeah i’m i’m looking forward to

[21:55] horizon zero dawn as well i get to see some of it in action at PSX and it looked really pretty i do agree that sometimes that publisher the stories can

[22:08] be a little hit and miss but i think with this one it feels pretty interesting like the story sort of intriguing i always

[22:17] like uh post apocalyptic stuff that so far past the apocalypse that everything sort of overgrown and regrown what was that one Oh Andy Serkis did the voice

[22:34] work in it was Journey to the West with the girl right in the red hair except the one no no no that was a different one this one was like he it was it was

[22:46] like based on the old uh oh nology the whole monkey and ah oh no called here I’ll know it you go anyways yeah it reminds me of that just cuz that game

[23:01] was very lush and overgrown um was quite beautifully done was a great game I like say like Odyssey know that oh I’m it’s late Agassi to the west honest there it

[23:13] is installation way of Tammuz in um so pray I’m also curious about that one just because it looks pretty weird it’s like arthur c clarke took the bad acid a

[23:30] sniper elite 4 i’m excited for that one because i really enjoy the sniper league games there’s something really satisfying but that CSI cam that we do

[23:39] and i just also really like be like the full of physics in their grade but deal with like wind shear and drop and all that so it really makes you have to line

[23:48] up your shot you feel really good if you land a good shot it’s not just about getting the crosshairs where they should be and also things like masking your the

[23:58] sound of your shots with like ambient noise in the environments like waiting for like driving then a rough collar to do it yeah um yeah it looks pretty funny

[24:09] so I’m so for that one and yeah I guess also it season ads for injustice to and I really enjoyed a nether realms previous work on the mortal kombat game

[24:30] nice thing it’s yes netherrealm studios again so yeah yeah and then night in the woods looks fun too that’s a indie title it’s

[24:41] in development for the long out but it looks really fun the animation in it is really really pretty um yeah wow those are a few the ones that I’m kind of

[24:50] keeping my ear to the ground i also really want to try resident evil but I also AM terrified to try resonated yeah so we’ll see if you had a seem scary I

[25:02] think the UM so I mean I’m good it’s funny I’m just kind of my wells kind of dry at the moment as far as what I’d be excited about I think thing I could be

[25:13] excited the v2 that I could be excited about but I just can’t seem to get it going one would be for breath of the wild no it just looks oh that looks so

[25:22] cool it’s just it’s got to be the most open world Zelda game that’s ever existed and every bit of it so far seems to be to the normal Zelda quality man

[25:32] just I can another system like a switch I just can’t do it and I just can’t get another one like maybe if it may be after the first price drop but even then

[25:44] it’s just like I got a ps4 I have a gaming PC and I’m gonna have this thing it’s just I don’t know yeah wait wait for five months from now like a guys

[25:55] look like what your son when you talking when it’s not for you yeah come keep this little controller is so it was gonna set the way like do I have time

[26:04] for this yeah so the in other words so that i don’t i was interested they released it or they’re about to release its final fantasy is it 12 mm-hmm they

[26:17] have that release coming the HD release yeah my hate so he’s a actually just had an experience with the pancetta do some travel recently so i was able to finally

[26:25] beat far fancy 9 good arches on da phone yeah um so full honesty i cheated like i just saw you did it and i just i don’t got time for this I don’t have time to

[26:38] level these guys up like it i like the systems with enjoy the game as much as possible aight whenever I got to a boss file I tried

[26:45] to turn off all the cheats and beat them normally which I did right up until the end man it’s just like I don’t know man I just want to get through this weight

[26:54] and it’s and it’s the final fantasy every single time takes the most bizarre out of left field turn at the end that has just nothing to do with the story

[27:06] and like every seal intent like the entire game you’re fighting against evil Joe well that’s actually that’s a bad name because that’s an actual name isn’t

[27:15] it for an actual character problem I’m sick of saying beautiful joke you’ll gamecube thing and then I call them evil Daryl so you’re fighting Daryl the

[27:24] entire game daryl is destroying the world Daryl destroyed your town Darrell you know is threatening the life force and then you go to his magical floating

[27:35] kingdom and you beat Darrell and then you just get thrown into some sort of nether realm space it’s like I am the you know the encapsulation of every bad

[27:45] will that’s ever existed fight me now that’s what who are you what is this about wait who is this clean as half like every fun of fantasy game does this

[27:56] even the first one that’s just at the end like you beat the guy and then just at the end it’s just like oh yeah and the soup supreme evil did the other

[28:03] other evil oh come on like I just somebody gotta like throw out a left field like this like who is this guy no mention whatsoever there was no been

[28:12] twisted this is just completely introduced nothing foreshadowing it just duct-taped to the end of the game yeah yeah and your EV forums probably like he

[28:21] has all one form you kill and I need morphs do you another one oh so it’s just this would be I forgot how bad it was in nine but the thing is just so out

[28:32] of great just completely out of nowhere oh also big fight this guy like what is why what’s this yeah I am time okay I’m battling time sure cool potion fire she

[28:52] switched you’re dead teaching yes I don’t know that if I could do we do another font fancy when I will say like 12 I think was one of my most

[29:02] favorite games like guard BG system i ever played with like a pre-arranged kind of sets you know the game is selfie i couldn’t if you asked me for not

[29:11] synopsis i have no idea what happened no i’d beat it I don’t got a damn clue what happened I was so lost yeah why does mean the the fighting system like just I

[29:20] love that fighting system yeah i was looking basically programming like it’s always like if statements and like priorities like it was so cool so I

[29:30] don’t like I said so duh so two caves on the radar and i don’t know if i can get excited for either you’ll get excited for it or just jump into resident evil

[29:38] one man if anything I think the VR game i’m kind of stoked about is fruit ninja press such amazing things about it they say that they say the tracking is so

[29:50] tight and you’re in there and you got two katanas and they’re just throwing fruit at you you like yeah slicing it it’s beautiful thank if you can find a

[30:01] demo of that that one I think you should try exist yeah that one sounds so people are just raving about that one a sunset one it’s amazing out fruit ninja can

[30:10] make its way back right keeps on going its third iteration yeah because like it was um like a mobile game first and then the kinect had a version and then now

[30:29] it’s back again in Jerry generations may be swell get that figure has a switch version right because if you get the two little controllers and you’re waving
