[0:00] the uh the babies are asleep and uh listen to my voice I now smooth jazz podcast yeah got uh choo Cho all aboard the cold

[0:14] train oh God GNA take us into the top o’ clock on Quiet Storm borderline like Nicholas Cage there for a

[0:25] bit wasn’t so much soone wasn’t so much sexy as it was slightly terrifying 90s Nicholas Cage what do you want from me I’m one

[0:39] [Music] man the adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep welcome to New dad gaming a show about fatherhood gaming

[0:52] and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name is Trevor and I have a one and a halfy old my name is Gavin I have a one and a halfy old

[1:00] and I’m Jeff I have a three and a half and a six-year-old and in this version of the episode Trevor returned to No Man’s Sky

[1:08] Gavin survived the plague and Jeff saw a movie that sums up her life pretty quickly right so that’s

[1:21] good yeah so just just quickly off to top obviously to catch it up on the week so Jeff like it was a full family affair with the movie uh well it was just me

[1:31] and the boys so um and um a friend and his son as well so Lego Batman uh was an awesome film for the kids and the parents really funny movie a lot of good

[1:44] references uh even to older Batman movies so it was good good to see the Easter eggs and will Arnette is Batman so it’s h it’s a good time highly

[1:55] recommend glad to see they pulled it off because that really could have just been a cash in cuz that sure yeah Lego Movie that that character was of course funny

[2:03] but it’s a one bit so it’s great to see it turn around like this no you should definitely go see it I don’t want to give any spoilers away so it’s uh good

[2:09] going in Fresh The Joker do it the Joker did it didn’t it’s always the Joker isn’t it Gavin you’re alive you did it yep

[2:21] managed to um uh yeah baby got a little sick earlier in the week and then proceeded to get the rest of the family sick so went from baby to Mama to D and

[2:32] now uh I’m doing fine wife’s pretty well bounced back baby was fine really fast like 12 hours was good us adults and our you know slower

[2:44] to heal physical forms or yeah it feels really unfair that patient zero like seems to suffer the least of the effects compared to everybody else and it

[2:56] requires the same amount of like care and maintenance so it’s like when you’re sort of running on fumes and you’re like oh God I just got to stay standing and

[3:05] then baby is like I want to run climb on the coach you’re like just don’t just just read a book or something you can’t yet because you don’t want to so you

[3:13] just want to run certainly it’s certainly the short end of the stick for the parents because when you need to be picked up and carried some place baby’s

[3:21] not going to do it no no yeah yeah I asked strangers on the street they just look at me funny but uh no it it went pretty good

[3:30] um luckily it was staggered enough like my wife got sick and then when she was just starting to get like she was pretty much on the end um and then uh and then

[3:40] I got it it’s just like off hit me like a cannonball then uh isn’t that funny though it’s like when they get sick

[3:47] you’re like oh you got a little cold knock you off your little feet and then you get sick with the same B like oh my God how can this be how did you not die

[3:58] baby how and like she like yeah if it’s really the same virus that got her it’s like she got sick like two times yeah she was

[4:09] fine and then like I was just like I got to sleep all day I just got to sleep but yeah no we’re doing well now so but yeah we Fri the

[4:21] plague the oh yeah yeah one of them was all over my life it was pretty it was it was impressive actually it was really

[4:30] impressive I just sort of stood there with my M was that her in the background saying no we did not survive okay yeah pretty much trauma like don’t downplay

[4:39] it it was horrible she was holding her daughter on the second barf and it was just like a steady flow and like Exorcist style very very

[4:55] much and it was just and it was like oh oh you got Barbed on Oh that’s oh oh oh oh wow you were getting burped on okay oh oh my God like it just went it was

[5:07] like a three Stager and by like the third stage it was like dripping out from underneath her pajamas and it’s just like okay I’ll get the shower

[5:16] ready now I’m G to puke oh my God yeah but it was just like I literally stood there I was so shocked by I’m like okay what do you want me to do he like

[5:27] normally I’m very like okay I got this as fine but it was so just like I was shell shocked and it was just like I am I’ve never seen that much come out of a

[5:37] human that size and yeah so I grabb the baby yeah the math the math isn’t I’m writing this down the math doesn’t work I don’t understand doesn’t check

[5:48] out too much volume I swear that was a sight to behold I’ll say that much it was uh I’m I can only imagine what it would have been like to be on the

[5:57] receiving end of it uh that looks like it must have been a little bit nuts um because yeah it’s like what do you do it’s like you you can’t drop her like

[6:07] you don’t know where to point her just dropped the the hose just you know it’s like oh but uh yeah so yeah lots of uh lots of vomit a lot of

[6:24] vomit speaking of vomit I was playing a No Man’s Sky recently in the oh good nice transition which is which is which is

[6:34] bad to say because actually I still really enjoy it and I’ll say the um that it again is just such a even recently I I I picked up um reading a

[6:45] habit of reading at night to try to like no screens no nothing just try to like read to calm yourself so you can get deeper sleep and no man’s sky is so much

[6:53] more effective like I sleep I sleep so well after playing that game I can’t describe it like this is the first the first time i’ done it and I’ve returned

[7:02] now and I just the sleeps afterward are beautiful I don’t I don’t know if that’s box art titling you’d want to put like I sleep

[7:11] beautifully after playing this it’s like the night but it um you know imposing the new Dad’s here

[7:26] having a conversation it kind of brought up the topic of open world games I mean no no man’s Sky being the quintessential version of a no open world game where

[7:36] it’s very much just here’s space you do you but am amongst this we have that uh GTA 5 in many respects after you beat the storyline Minecraft uh ge Even Mad

[7:50] Max with both you play both of you played I think was largely open world and you compare that to you know the Uncharted like all the Uncharted series

[8:00] like really razor focused great experiences like that and here we are as dads um yeah recently what’s been your as a father what has

[8:11] your experience with open World Games been recently maybe a Jeff I’ll throw it to you first um well I have experienced The

[8:19] Witcher right and that’s definitely open world yeah 10 months to complete so you got to be careful at what you kind of mix and match I think you can only have

[8:33] so much open world in your life otherwise uh you get sidetracked and then you don’t go back to that game and with parenting and fatherhood being

[8:43] involved you can’t necessarily game every night and get back into the story so even putting it aside and jumping back into an open world you would have

[8:53] no idea um what your next step would be or uh what your next uh objective is whereas linear I kind of prefer as the better end of games I think you could

[9:05] jump back into a level or something and kind of understand where you are in the story it’s more like a a chapter in a book or a really tight focused book um

[9:14] where open world is just um it’s fun to play around and it’s like a nice little sandbox but in terms of like gaming experience I guess there’s ones that can

[9:23] do really well like I love The Witcher it’s just it took me forever to get get it done um but I also love the Lost of us which was a definitely like linear as

[9:34] you can get but the story the character development all that stuff just was amazing in terms of um the presentation and the quality of it so uh I think you

[9:43] do have to mix a match but open world is definitely a dangerous game to play with a being a father just because you could drop it and then just never pick it up

[9:52] never get back into it no man’s sky is probably a little bit easier because it’s more of a like an experience type game where you can go around and kind of

[9:59] make your own way matters so like a like a real universe but um you know per take that like extending that thought you just

[10:10] said though like take that against your current experiences with stardew valley though because is open world is it not I don’t it’s there’s not a lot to it but

[10:20] like open-ended maybe that’s a better way to put it yeah maybe open-ended because it’s it’s like a contained sandbox so I guess maybe part of it is

[10:28] like how big is the open world we’re talking about because Witcher was insane like it was huge and you could you know walk from one end to the other it would

[10:38] probably take you an hour in game to do that whereas starded Valley is kind of very like it’s almost like like 10 screens almost um I would equate it to

[10:48] like Legend of Zelda the old one on the SNES um so it’s it’s kind of those screens where um you have something to do in them but it’s you there’s no

[10:58] Overworld map or anything you’re just in a contained space and you kind of play along as you will and there really is no I guess endgame objective there kind of

[11:08] is but that one’s a hard one I put that one kind of in a gray area because it’s a great it’s great sandbox but it’s not huge it’s not overwhelming where if I

[11:16] went into Mad Max or something it’s just um o open world icons everywhere and side quests and and everything that’s loses your main focus of I guess the end

[11:28] goal um um and what I get turned around on is that I should do these side quests to power up my character so I can do the storyline ones I never feel that I’m

[11:39] powered enough to do just this just the plot line so I think that’s part of um where I can falter in terms of gaming I I always think that I have to go around

[11:50] do everything so I’m the best I can be to defeat the story right so or I’m missing an item or something I complete the story I didn’t get the best ending

[11:58] or something something like that so that’s where I can see where you kind of go off in your own little way and and don’t don’t complete it yeah so I mean

[12:08] Gavin like with your um trying to think about how many open world experiences you’ve discussed of course you went through uh Mad Max like what’s been some

[12:16] of your takes within this first year and a half of being a father with open world games um I think they’re they’re solid like uh I like Shadow of Mordor like

[12:25] that was really solid playthrough um I think it really comes down to the game play design and the design of the objectives um so like having it set up

[12:37] so that there is a clear focus on where you need to go next and what you need to do next but as Jeff said like there’s

[12:44] always that lure of the side objectives so that way you can get more XP and then apply that XP to up your character skills and all that yeah sometimes I can

[12:53] find the open world can be a bit of a drawback especially to in some instances where like there’s a lot of fast travel I used to be somebody who did not like

[13:02] fast travel um but now I’m like I I like past travel fast travel is just fine um because I don’t like having to commute to my objective like I don’t have to

[13:13] commute to the mission to start the mission when I just see how much time I have to play ticking down um and it’s like I don’t want to spend that like

[13:22] driving across like some Mediterranean Countryside it’s like that’s great and stuff I don’t have time for a drive I want to get right to the meat and

[13:30] potatoes here um so that’s yeah there’s certain instances where I really do enjoy open world nature um or even like open objective nature is kind of a

[13:44] similar one too or it’s like you’re playing a game and there are secondary objectives and stuff like that which is similar to open world like DSX for

[13:51] example like there’s whole bunch of side missions it’s not really open world like it’s open worldes but it’s like two main contained maps that aren’t that huge um

[14:02] but they’re chalk full of stuff um I think that’s the other Factor too with open World Games is the quantity over quality is sometimes you get games like

[14:10] uh like just cause which I absolutely love um but even in Just Cause 2 which is one of my favorite games of all time that map was way too big

[14:19] um but like so it’s figuring out where like the map was so big that sometimes you just like you didn’t have anything to do or to get from one spot to another

[14:30] was really difficult they did have a good fast travel system in place which was good um but yeah just sometimes you’re like oh I made it to this city

[14:39] but there’s really not much to do here it’s just a city it’s just different than the mountains um so yeah it’s it’s weird but when you

[14:47] find other games where it’s a little bit smaller and the map is has a little bit more to it like uh the newest Fallout was a little bit more choca block with

[14:56] stuff to do but then it it fell into the other trapping of like you know a a cat chasing a laser pointer like you just didn’t know what you want to do next

[15:05] you’re just distracted by like what’s over there what’s over there what’s over there and you forget the fact that you need to find your kid like you lose your

[15:13] motivation and it’s like yeah I find that factor a little difficult to when it especially too when it affects a narrative like when a side quest makes

[15:23] the motivations of your character you know it affects that narrative um yeah that can be really difficult but

[15:31] then you see things like the last of us or Uncharted or even Doom um like they’re fantastic games that are just are that really hone in on the forward

[15:41] momentum of that character they have a goal and they’re going to achieve that goal and you are going to do what you need to do with the controller to make

[15:49] that happen um I think sometimes with those games you feel a little bit more catharsis in a shorter amount of time um and you feel

[16:00] like you have a little bit more you feel better relationship with the character because of that like you’re not leading them astray and then feeling guilty

[16:08] about it like there’s no none of this like oh sorry Nathan Drake I know you wanted to find that thing but yeah I really wanted to collect cabbages for

[16:16] this woman in the village and that just took priority yeah or build chairs at least for old ladies yeah exactly yeah my

[16:26] child lost in the Wasteland they can wait this meth addict needs a new yeah I think um yeah some of those examples I think

[16:37] um even as much as I’ve been enjoying and still enjoy playing no man’s Sky I think it’s it feels like it’s a game for single

[16:45] people young single people or people who don’t have commitments because it’s just any anytime you put into it is just an absolute drop in an ocean there is no

[16:57] end game there’s no point and especially when you’re just doing that one hour like you can you guys can certainly relate with Skyrim I mean it’s

[17:06] just an hour could be spent taking a wrong turn over top of a mountain so like if when you’re trying when you have that precious hour of dad time to

[17:16] possibly play this game it’s like well I took a wrong turn and I climbed that mountain guess my time’s over for the night as supposed to making any type of

[17:24] progress and I’ve been struggling recently as far as like it’s again like for for me it’s almost ends up being meditative because it’s just a very

[17:32] calming like kind of beautiful world to be in and just that that enjoyment of it just like yeah I I’m happy to be here this is like the

[17:40] activity this activity is just to be here and enjoy this and that’s fighting my natural gamer sense of like beat it beat the game so because you know you

[17:51] can’t and theoretically there’s some things you can do but ultimately that’s it so like you have those two fighting sides I mean I think ultimately I found

[17:57] the same with uh dangerous funny enough another like space Sim where it’s just like you’re not there’s there’s nothing here or or

[18:07] even with um a drive club which I was enjoying the most in my in the VR set um you could certainly get better cars but those cars

[18:17] just drive slightly differently and you’re going to just try to drive faster you know what I mean like it’s just that there you can’t win there’s nothing

[18:25] there’s no like you save the princess or you save the prince game’s over like yeah congrats and that’s that’s what was so for me having coming from all of

[18:34] those Sims or even like Street Fighter and just all these things that had no particular end to be playing through Uncharted 4 was a such a contrast it was

[18:45] crazy every night I’m just I’m making there’s this cool story and I’m making progress I’m proceeding the book is getting smaller like I’m about to finish

[18:53] it you know still haven’t finished it by the way I gotta yeah I know gotta wrap finishing it too don’t worry Trevor nice

[19:02] new dad cheers so I don’t know you you guys had that like have you had that fight between like I I enjoy this sandbox and

[19:11] I’m just gonna play in the sandbox for an hour and I have you fought with yourself around trying to accomplish something in your gaming your very

[19:19] sparse dad gaming time I think it’s more desire because like my desire to do that sort of like I used to play a lot of Grand Theft Auto

[19:28] just to see if I could jump a four-wheeler onto a moving train yes I can um but it took a lot of time video a didn’t happen yeah

[19:41] exactly wish I had that share button working backround um so yeah it’s just factor of just I I liked messing around with that

[19:52] sandbox and playing with it seeing what I could do and even with like uh like just cause like like o I wonder if I can blow up this bridge and then fly

[20:00] underneath it with my wing suit as it’s crumbling and not die I can’t um but uh you know those little experiments I think open world games have that it’s

[20:13] you know even in Skyrim it’s like I wonder if I can try to make you know the these Giants over here get in a fight with that Dragon over there like there’s

[20:20] little kind of things you can do in those games where you’re sort of taking the game world and playing with it and playing like I think that’s sort of the

[20:27] definition of the s box game at least to me is that here’s this area that you can play in and just monk around and do what you want and make your own experience um

[20:38] but that said I think now I’m starting to I like the better bang for my buck when it comes to more focused narrative games

[20:50] like this is a designed experience a lot of thought went into it most of the time um and it’s like okay let’s let’s do this thing let’s let’s move forward with

[21:00] it um and yeah it’s like when you’re playing something like Uncharted or you know uh her Doom uh for example like yeah it’s those games where you just you

[21:10] [Music] feel yeah you feel like you’ve made quality use of what little U time you had um it be like sitting down it’s like

[21:19] do I just sit down and read a chapter of this really nice novel um or do I read The Inquirer um both are translating

[21:29] words um but yeah it’s like you know do you read like a newspaper article about Bill Clinton’s love affair with aliens in the 90s or do you read like an actual

[21:40] book um and I think that’s sort of the difference it’s not like one’s bad actually that’s really a bad comparison it’s more just the fact

[21:49] of you want something that’s that’s really going to stick with you or do you just want to have some fun um and there’s nothing wrong with just having

[21:56] some fun but sometimes with the open World Games if you want to have a good experience you have to go through you have to charge through a lot of distance

[22:05] and a lot of side quests to get to that good experience because I know with the Witcher with Skyrim there are some quality scripted moments like you would

[22:13] have in an Uncharted or a doom but they’re they’re buried in the sandbox and you got to dig them up and the time it takes to dig them up sometimes is is

[22:23] a bit of a deterrent yeah I could I could Rel I could see both sides to either game mode I think open world is great when you

[22:32] kind of walk away with your own experiences and you can talk to a friend that has the same game and they have a completely different story like relating

[22:40] to Skyrim um just meeting somebody on like this the tallest mountain that I decided to scale and he gave me this sword that you know my other friend is

[22:49] like what are you talking about I beat it and I’ve never experienced that um so that that aspect is kind of cool where if you go through like a linear story

[22:58] it’s like well I’m on chapter nine and this happens so the water cooler talk changes yeah yeah oh did you get to that part yet yeah I did it was so great yeah

[23:08] um or like with an open world game it’s more of like oh you’ll never believe what happened in Grand Theft Auto last night I was driving a bike on top of a

[23:17] truck and I flew through a donut I guess it really does change it too is like the communal aspect of it and now that the current world that

[23:27] we’re in with like no man’s sky is this incredible subreddit that actually turned into one of the most toxic places I’ve ever seen

[23:36] in my life and then managed to turn back into incredibly positive after a bunch of updates but same thing with or GTA or with twitch and YouTube and all these

[23:44] things happening it’s not just it is you with a a ton of other people all in this space where anything’s possible and you’re just

[23:52] showing each other like check this out like this incredible stunt like some of the GTA 5 montages are just like bananas it’s like how on Earth did how did you

[24:02] pull this like how are you you’re you’re on a the side of a freeway and you’re jumping off into like a plane that’s going underneath now it’s a sub it’s

[24:11] just it just keeps going which I guess almost prompts that to go back in um yeah but I it might be like with a Minecraft or

[24:23] with a No Man’s sky that might I think it ends up being a harder argument than say a follow or Skyrim least at least those

[24:32] when you’re done you can beat it you can just like you’re and I’m done now like like follow four finishes like there’s an ending to it like check I’m out of

[24:41] here this is great I think one of the only redeeming things could be I don’t know if you guys have ever gotten into like a procedurally generated Dungeon

[24:49] Crawler or anything else that just like is different every single time I will say one of the saving graces with no man’s because they introduced

[24:56] the survival mode so many ways this is just that this is just challenging you inside of the sandbox like okay how long can you live before before this game

[25:06] inevitably kills you like can you even get to a Starship before like you die because of a plant so you guys ever dipped in that

[25:14] direction as far as like procedurally generated because I it feels like it might be a bit more um giving to a father with limited time uh yeah like

[25:24] I’ve played a few sort of Rog like um like crawler ones and like I find them them enjoyable but then there’s certain

[25:35] times where I just feel like I get dealt a really bad hand and like oh I was so close and then that stupid slug hit me in the face with a thorn and I got to

[25:45] start over again and then now that I’m starting the random items I got are really bad I wish I had start with that load out from the first one so yeah

[25:55] there’s moments like that but they are they are fun I think they’re good little they’re kind of the equivalent of I think just messing around in a sandbox

[26:05] but there’s a little bit more objectives to it a little bit more satisfaction if you complete them or if you progress a little bit further you know like with

[26:12] Spelunky and stuff like sometimes you get a little bit further than you did last time but with those games too because it’s sort of random it’s a lot

[26:20] of luck at the draw sometimes where uh what the level layout looks like and all this can sometimes just work in your favor and some

[26:29] not so yeah i’ I’ve dealt in like Minecraft briefly with my son and just having a procedurally generated world where he

[26:39] can build whatever he wants to build um is great for his creativity but again yeah it’s kind of like rule of the dice on where you start what you get and then

[26:51] um what he can do with that world so I don’t like that aspect for myself but for him it’s great because he can kind of flex his creative muscles and adapt

[26:59] to that situation but if it was for me I would just do a quick reset until I got something that I needed to to at least work with and and go over but um I don’t

[27:10] know so it’s I guess it’s kind of what you what you’re feeling at the at the moment and kind of continue it along with another game I don’t think you

[27:18] could solely dive into something like that and I I’ve seen other people do it for years and years and years but I don’t think I have that commitment with

[27:28] the short gaming time I have I want to experience other things in my backlog before um they get too old to uh care about too is like you look at these open

[27:37] world games and these Rogue likes and stuff and they’re intriguing but they do take up a lot of time yeah and when you have like a backlog of games that you

[27:47] want to get through or you see other ones coming you know uh coming along that look also really interesting you’re oh I

[27:56] want so it’s sort of do I do I bother getting like um was it oh oh oh um Infamous uh Second Son oh yeah yeah yeah that’s on sale right now right like oh

[28:11] it looks really nice I’ve always wanted to check it out but it’s a big open world and I’m like I don’t run around a city looking for objectives I’m

[28:18] literally doing that right now in my other game that one’s a that one’s a good example though because I played that one to death and that was a really

[28:25] tight open world if that makes sense like it’s it’s not crazy yeah and you have a bunch of superpowers that can not fast travel you but you can work your

[28:35] way around the city and get these objectives done rather quickly so it’s it’s a good tight experience where yeah if it was like like a Witcher world big

[28:45] totally would not recommend that just because of the massive nature of it but yeah they block it off kind of nicely good and that’s probably part of it too

[28:56] is there’s open world and there’s almost like closed open where like Infamous there’s like you know there’s a bridge broken or something so you can’t access

[29:04] that part of the open world so it kind of closes you off a little bit and then classic Bridge break yeah it’s like I’ve got superpowers like what I be a shame

[29:15] if I could fly or something or I don’t swim rent a boat how Grand Theft Auto again too right Bridge break what do you mean I can’t

[29:25] get over the bridge it’s not even broken I think they just like shut it down for a while yeah you

[29:32] spend an hour trying to break it SS row like didn’t Saints Row make fun of that in one of their games oh I bet I hope they did yeah yeah

[29:42] probably yeah then the um I guess like the last place I would take it would be the one of the games that’s kind of on my radar for quite a while has been

[29:51] steep so that’s the big open world snowboarding one and sports games in this particular conversation kind of takes up

[30:01] an interesting place because a in many way it’s almost a little bit like a street fighter as far as like it’s there’s no end to it like I’m I’m

[30:10] especially with steep but let’s say like a hockey game or a basketball game I guess you could win a championship yeah but then like what you put it away on

[30:18] the Shelf it’s more likely every now and then you’re gonna pick it up and play a game of it and then it’s just this Advan the whole purpose of you is to get

[30:24] slightly better at this thing which has no impetus on your life whatsoever so you’re just improving your skills in it and yet um I’ve always found like that

[30:34] to be very rewarding in sports games like the driving game like getting the better lap the hockey game killing your opponent nine to nothing basketball and

[30:43] steep or any like snowboarding game of course I think has a bit of the medit meditative element because it’s just you drifting down on M slamming slamming

[30:54] into the side but okay we keep going no that’s a good example too right cuz you have to kind of like find your line to get the best jump and stuff where you

[31:02] compared it like SSX which was like a closed snowboarding you got like nine tracks you know those like the back of your hand right or Steepy you kind of

[31:11] start new and you can experience it provise it I think that’s the same with like other open world games too Mad Max it was like as big as the world was it

[31:20] was really enjoyable to rip around it in the car so traveling from point A to point B um was an enjoyable experience because of

[31:31] how they and like as you said with Infamous like they give you all those powers to be able to get around so if you can make that experience enjoyable

[31:39] like yeah why not go off a sand dune and like go flying off into the sunset or like you know carve through a nice nice big snow bank there’s these aspects of

[31:50] of enjoying the geography of that map um but if it’s just something as simple as like just drive down the road and watch for pedestrians like I do that every

[32:03] day want life it’s my Sunday driving man and I think again like gez we keep driving back to Skyrim but I just um I don’t often recall ever in that game

[32:16] lamenting a long walk because every single time it was just so interesting like something happened beautiful it was always beautiful and the music was

[32:24] swelling and wonderful and I’m just like oh like I just want to live it’s like the whole world there a bandit um as a bandit cave there was a like every now

[32:33] and then like you’d have they’d throw in some random stuff like every now then like three guards they be taking a high Elf somewhere and you get to choose like

[32:41] okay am I gonna just let this pass am I gonna try to kill a bunch of guards yeah yeah sorry gav you’re saying about the world the game’s world was literally a

[32:50] nice warm blanket like you just felt nice in it you did it’s true and you’d want to stay there for a long time hours and

[32:58] hours and hours hours and hours and hours um I think that was thing if an open world is very inviting then yeah like I

[33:07] think maybe that’s also the difference too why I feel more of a draw to Skyrim than to Fallout 4 again is because there was something about Skyrim’s world that

[33:17] was very even though I’m more about like sci-fi and post-apocalyptic stuff like that’s sort of more my leanings when it comes to Fantasy stuff but yeah there

[33:28] just something with Skyrim that was just storm of audio visuals like hearing that that sweeping music as you’re coming over top of this Ridge and

[33:37] looking over in like the fog and the low lens and it’s just like ah it’s just so nice yeah so man Sky yeah I gonna log off here and go play sky what um one

[33:51] last detour you know you know what know big open world I miss the uh Fable 2 was never play man that’s that is that goes down as one of my favorite games of

[34:04] all time that was just it’s got to be the most Charming world I’ve ever been in like it was just so nice I just it’s it’s relatively happy it’s very much

[34:13] like a Disney version of a open world yeah like you can like do emotes and like you can make people laugh and like joke around you can totally customize

[34:22] what your Dude Looks Like and oh man that world was just like just such a treat to like jump around and I think not even quite as exciting as Skyrim but

[34:33] I I always think back on Fable kind I just keep hoping they’ll announce Fable four but uh not likely gota doubt it make it up in your

[34:43] mind yeah as still as much as I think it’s a it was a sparse map I still really like the map in Just Cause 2 um just because you could go from like a

[34:52] snowy area to like desert and everything in between and like your character would get covered in sand and then like within a half hour you had them covered in snow

[35:02] um there was just something kind of interesting about that like the fact that this little continent that they made had multiple ecosystems on it I

[35:09] thought that was really cool um and then flying around it it was just really pretty and like just sort of you know Barn Burning or really low to the ground

[35:19] and it was I always found that was a uh for me a good like go-to peaceful sort of Zen uh open world thing I I know if the game is supposed to be like a

[35:30] cartoon action movie but I would really just get in an airplane and just fly around this beautiful island um and that was like by the end of it after I beat

[35:40] the game it turned into a flight SIM for me uh but a flight Sim that I could watch the plane explode yeah Jeff I so Jeff what would

[35:50] be your um I think accidentally me and uh Gavin have revealed some of our favorite open worlds did you have a an open world is definitely Witcher three

[35:59] there’s no question no question I swear that grabbed a hold of me but it’s interesting that some of those games flip right so Witcher one and two went

[36:08] from linear to open world so I think Metal Gear is doing the same thing I want to experience that one it’s very linear all the way up to four and then

[36:17] five went total open world so it’s kind of neat that way too when they make that conscious decision but if I would had to pick an open world it would have to

[36:25] be I it is very depressing but it’s like a good depressing like it’s it shows you the human nature of you know like if you do something in

[36:35] that world it does affect it and people talk about you differently and um towns burn down because of you and other characters die because of you and um

[36:47] it’s a good I don’t know it’s a good reality to get into could could one not go loyal to that game it makes me wonder whether the Publishers have like photos

[36:55] of doing something compromising if if I yeah if cyber Punk um if I can get a free copy of that game when it comes out in five

[37:06] years yeah in many ways though is U Witcher 3 not just a more adult version of Fable 2 for being honest probably very very very more yeah yeah

[37:18] that’s Mickey Mouse guess it’s like Disney Channel versus FX oh well so I think for from the sounds of it all three of us need to go

[37:28] find our copies of Skyrim I think so yeah so seems like a decent place to put in a but a button in it everybody thank you once again for listening this has
