[0:00] good too they just like ran in like you just see them in the background they start wrestling yeah probably you’re Steely gays like looking forward like

[0:07] nope nope top shelf off the couch behind me just good like suplexes on the couch yeah yeah oh yeah

[0:18] the regression scariest means so much because they’re just so great to put him down and put to be down

[0:27] just so life-affirming bed [Music] no bed go to bed no go to bed

[0:44] okay heal that’s good go to bed yep I’m telling you it’s the summer hours I can’t deal

[0:57] it’s beautiful yeah yeah so I don’t get it [Music]

[1:14] the adult beverages are poor the kids are asleep welcome to New dad gaming a show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives

[1:22] my name is Trevor and I have a sleeping two-year-old and another on the way and my name is Jeff uh my kids are both awake and they’re seven and four

[1:34] so light out and summer is exciting like why would you sleep well exactly as a kid why would I sleep I can hear my friends outside I can hear stuff going

[1:44] on the energy is still there the sunlight gives them energy it’s just they feed off it

[1:50] and it doesn’t matter yeah that’s especially man like if the other parents in your neighborhood aren’t

[1:58] on the same wavelength they’re not they’re not they’re just they’re just out from just imagine them like literally like in front of your house

[2:05] like having like a soccer game like on your lawn and um to be honest it happened on Monday so a couple days ago uh we had a doorbell ring from one of my

[2:16] uh one of uh Jude’s friends uh the neighbor and it was uh it was like 8 30 at night I’m like what no no he’s in bed he’s in bed and then I had to go later

[2:27] to get some milk at the grocery store and come back he’s out there in the sidewalk with two other kids it’s 9 30 at night so I’m like oh these parents

[2:35] need to be on the same schedule as us because this isn’t gonna work gonna be sitting around like a newsletter around like yeah that’s right hey everyone

[2:43] appreciate if uh you put your kid to bed it’s real hard for me you gotta roll this back I’m getting too much Flack oh man

[2:52] um yeah I mean Stephen that’s like I noticed it too just where it’s we he had a couple a really bad streak

[3:00] where he was waking up like Rue her much earlier than was as usual so 5 36. it’s right there Elton bed

[3:14] go to bed he’s just saying random words he says do you hear that that’s something marshmallow you think doors and marshmallows

[3:21] bad that’s my four-year-old that’s not the seven-year-old my four-year-old should be long but it’s 9 30.

[3:29] he’s crazy yeah this is gonna make for good radio like you hear it perfectly you just hear like oh yeah he’s counseling marshmallow

[3:38] it’s at the top of the stairs he just looks over long summer geez I remember that the uh you gotta

[3:48] wonder I don’t know if your uh your dad did the same thing and you feel so much like being a dad now you feel you feel it so much more or

[3:56] you relate to it so much more and the poor man would come home from work like just as we do exhausted like you’re tired of anything

[4:06] and I remember they were trying to go to bed or like trying to get us to go to bed and there’s four of us so we’re like we’re throwing pillows like back and

[4:14] forth on the hallway like uh we both shared uh two and two shared rooms so like we’re hurling like pillows and just like screaming and like stomping around

[4:23] and I guess the poor man would have to sit like so first like that we were getting told off and like told to be quiet or

[4:32] not listening and eventually he resorts to taking his newspaper his uh like popcorn and his beer and like just sitting at the top of the

[4:41] stairs just reading the newspaper waiting for us to drop and yeah oh you think back like oh poor man I can’t believe we did that to him and then like

[4:51] you’re thinking yourself like oh no yeah it’s coming that’s coming back that’s coming back around Karma what if that’s like the classic

[4:59] like that’s just every Sun eventually gets to the point where they have to do something akin to

[5:06] that parents action like well yeah here it is it continues it’s not it’s not nurture at all it’s in the nature it’s just in genetically ingrained like they

[5:17] need at this age they’re staying up and they’re testing those limits that’s what’s gonna happen sorry and traffic

[5:24] when I was uh since you’re the seven I don’t think when I was seven like how late I was staying up especially in the summer

[5:31] yeah I had a hard time trying to remember I was over at my neighbors a lot but I don’t remember being out past Sundown like for sure so definitely not

[5:40] nine nine thirty at night right now so and okay and okay I have I have a beef with because my my oldest is in Camp so he goes to camp he does archery he does

[5:52] kayaking they do trail hikes they’re Outdoors all day I think he’s gonna come home exhausted he comes home with more energy than when

[6:00] he left and I asked him why and this Camp is about 40 minutes away so he gets on the bus and he takes a bus ride for 40 minutes turns out on the way back he

[6:11] sleeps the entire way oh that’s the nap he’s loaded 40 minute power nap and he’s ready to go for another five hours plus will be serve coffee on the

[6:22] busy chocolate and that’s it it’s chewing caffeine okay doing tobacco yeah it’s just like here

[6:32] you go I can’t visit this to us we’ll do it back uh Fort damn that

[6:38] the nap on the ride is brutal like it’s so disheartening like we’ll have that too where we’re trying to um

[6:47] we’ll be driving some point like near his like let’s call it one o’clock nap and it’s like 12 30 and you’re driving home and he falls asleep and it’s just

[6:55] like no no no yeah you almost want to be cruel and wake him up because it’s like yeah you’re gonna

[7:04] get just enough not to sleep in like the rest of the day it’s gonna be terrible oh the uh yeah The quick summary of this time you’ve already got into a little

[7:15] bit from a Parenthood standpoint but uh how was your week in fatherhood and gaming yeah so fatherhood is dealing with this uh summer hour

[7:24] um stuff going on yeah um but it’s been good you know um again coming home from work you’re a little bit exhausted but taking them out

[7:32] to the splash pad and being outside with them a lot better than just being cooped up in the winter and you don’t know what to do with them a lot of the time so

[7:39] it’s been good that way um in terms of gaming I’m still on Final Fantasy 15 I’ve taught my son who watches me uh he knows all the summons

[7:48] so he knows Rama he knows Titan he knows Leviathan you know Sam is great he knows all the characters names uh so that’s kind of exciting as a dad gamer uh to

[8:00] see you should work out as like so if you ever get one of those spells that duplicate or doubles your damage it’d be like yeah at least put it in the

[8:09] guys of Education where it’s just like okay well if I give him 500 damage yeah no it’s doubled he totally knows that he can uh rhyme off the hit points and he’s

[8:19] really good with math right now so if I do a potion he can add up how much hit points I would get from that uh so it’s good I’m using it as a teaching

[8:29] experience it’s very educational sure nice puts out fire you see yes no the elements uh what magic spell d is when so no it’s been a kind of a cool

[8:41] father-son moment and it’s not too violent it’s very like mythical so everything’s just magic and you do have a sword but there’s no blood or anything

[8:49] it’s just these huge exists so it’s kind of great like you’re living the dream on that one yeah I love it and it’s Final Fantasy right so it’s like my go-to and

[8:58] to get him into that it’s kind of neat um so that’s been good um the other game as I mentioned before was pillars of The Eternity I bought

[9:07] that on a um cheap sale I think it’s part of the Humble Bundle monthly as well so I missed out on that game before but I had

[9:18] to buy it this week so I got a taste of that too but what is it what is that one is that like a um Diablo like or like yeah it’s kind of Diablo like

[9:30] um crpg I think is what the genre is but it’s um Baldur’s Gate kind of stuff so you have a bunch of characters you have to

[9:38] manage very micromanaging like your the battle’s all real time but you have to pause and kind of direct your guys to do certain things or you’re just dead so

[9:48] it can be uh quite hard they do suggest like easy mode which I’ve never seen a game do that they’re usually like normal mode

[9:57] yeah I typed in my age and it’s like easy I’m like Ugh so no it’s it’s cool so far I love the aesthetic it’s like an old 90s kind of

[10:06] uh take on that stuff so it’s cool okay that’s me how about you yeah so the um yeah father’s been pretty good uh we finished up some prenatal courses

[10:19] which was eye-opening in that like oh yeah all these things like yeah did you take that as like a refresher was actually just like a video series we

[10:31] had found we thought like uh it was pretty thorough which was great and the uh teacher is really well renowned renowned sorry so it was just gonna be a

[10:38] bit easier with like the kid and like the kind of go at her own pace instead yeah that’s very much it’s very much the exact corset we saw minus the plastic

[10:46] babies that like practice that first and then we just we did the real thing that morning that we felt okay about but um yeah if anything just to kind of remind

[10:56] us of the labor process and like what it takes like how that comes about uh to terrify us a little bit of course yeah yeah but even

[11:05] when the baby does come in like the first days and like uh care and like feeding like uh heat just so it was great like it’s even it’s not

[11:17] so much about uh you’ve been through it before so like you hope that some of it’s going to come back but just like if anything I just

[11:24] getting your head in that space where it’s like oh yeah babies yeah right right whatever these

[11:32] things that was quite good uh little man is uh yeah this same babbling we’ve been working with him on his speech a bunch

[11:40] trying to get him to and that was actually that was a very it was interesting because he’s now started to definitely pick up a couple

[11:48] of two word sentences okay good yeah um agua de coco so the coconut water in Spanish um apple juice

[11:58] uh up please like uh walk like just the walk now like there’s just a whole bunch of them and then hearing them say that it was one of the first thoughts was

[12:09] she’s almost like a sad dad moment where it’s like huh you’re never gonna not talk again are you yeah yeah no yeah that’s gone forever like that that’s the

[12:19] moment that’s passed and not as in like uh my kid talks all the time blah like a complaint but just like a literal like kind of a sadness around it where it’s

[12:26] just like that’s it like you’re past that phase now like you’re vaulting towards talking all the time like full sentences and speaking which

[12:35] is exciting like that’s awesome to yeah get into their heads a little bit and kind of understand what he’s thinking yeah

[12:44] you know peeking around the corner like in your house and marshmallow door and just throwing facts and words yeah that was an interesting moment just

[12:54] like it’s like yeah he starts doing these two sentences and it’s like two word sentences and the thought that like that’s

[13:00] that’s a phase he’s passed it’s he no longer doesn’t talk and to some extent so yeah that was a yeah interesting moment gaming

[13:10] still very much in a kind of vicious cycle at the moment said not much going on there if anything else that’s really just like looking at news and taunting

[13:17] myself or like all the stuff that’s coming out and this seems to be so much for VR happening too oh there was a week there

[13:25] was a leak I think even today that stated that Fallout 4 a GameStop head Ed or like GameStop had seemed to

[13:33] include it in their psvr um repertoire that one I know that I think they talked about wait had they even talked about that for PC yeah they

[13:43] did announce it for PC uh the Vive or V for whatever it is um so this is so it’s not a mistake or it’s a hint of future Doom uh VR

[13:53] pre-order came out super hot I think released today or yesterday yeah uh four or five titles like uh one was like amulet another one’s like Arizona

[14:03] drive or some to that extent yeah just like a zombie shooter stuff just like one after another eh just piling just piling on it I didn’t see like 12. yeah

[14:13] like it just keeps like all these like glorious reviews of it come around it’s like how amazing it is it’s just okay first is two of pricey and secondly I

[14:23] don’t got the time yeah but it’s just one of those things you keep seeing on the periphery like all these new stories or like links to it you’re just like

[14:33] daunting me by the time you’re cheap I might have time for you which is good maybe yeah it comes down in price and then you’d be

[14:41] able to buy all the games and not have time for it then so yeah yeah so the Evo was recent I mean like so I saw all this ton of Street Fighter

[14:52] news they introduced a new character Abigail which is this interestingly went this route it kind of like I don’t know if you’re familiar

[14:59] with the street fighter and like there was Hugo oh okay yeah yeah he had a huge um wrestler guy with like the big flock of hair yeah he was in I think three and

[15:08] four but it basically just looks like Hugo without hair like they would like uh almost to it might be almost to

[15:16] the point where it didn’t feel necessarily super original and I already have some big guys but I don’t know it’s it’s a DLC character

[15:24] anyway so I’m not likely to pay for it any times

[15:32] yeah whatever that would be uh I still think about that as far as like uh side ranch would be like that is a game for VR

[15:40] we don’t you don’t have to do a lot right I just mean it’s like literally like just the two of them that were just in front of you

[15:46] oh yeah that’d be cool kind of like on like a tabletop or something like you see them like versus being the first person yeah exactly so you’re just like

[15:52] looking down at a table there’s any device as if they’re fighting on the table yeah that’s like the stage so you’re kind of like in the state or the

[15:58] stage is even just kind of surrounding you and it was even just flat out but they’re just like directly in front of you and the jungle is kind of just

[16:04] extending around you that would be cool just the environment comes around you and then yeah like you say you can see them in front kind of like you’re

[16:11] controlling these little battle bots in like a stage and I think that’s what to bed that’s the last chance

[16:24] close your door no you already said something to bed now quickly

[16:33] quickly shut the door I count to three yeah I know all the way close the door close it

[16:48] all the way all the way all the way Elton

[17:02] oh man I’m telling you I gotta be careful how long how much I laugh that’s definitely gonna happen yeah yeah welcome to two there you go how much um

[17:10] when your second game how much regression did your first one go through with sleep um like did he sleep through the night

[17:18] and then you had the second one and he stopped sleeping through the night or anything yeah it was kind of a different um yeah period of time where we had to

[17:27] move rooms for him too so he got a big boy bed at that time which was a totally different experience that probably interrupted a lot of it

[17:35] um and we were starting the potty training as well like through the night so there are a lot of times where he wasn’t

[17:43] getting the full night uh as he did which was a good 12 hours he was up a lot either we were waking him up for the potty training part or he figured out

[17:53] how to open his door and he was out on the landing uh up front but yeah not so much like regression as like uh like learned like

[18:02] if he was in the same room and the baby came along I’m sure you’d be fine it was just so much change at once uh that I think kind of kicked it off so I like to

[18:11] learn in the door now because he uh mine’s like definitely like he reaches it and he grabs it and he starts to like kind of like it’s like oh no yeah that’s

[18:20] a whole new game if he gets yeah no my my son could uh he could take off the you know the stopper on the doorknob that comes in like a shell piece he

[18:28] totally like put his fingers in and just twist the doorknob I’m like you I don’t know what I’m almost impressed by your Ingenuity but I don’t like it I keep

[18:38] thinking like video games though like his uh lock picking skills like increased like in a Skyrim thing like just

[18:44] well yeah gain the level so the uh see you had talked about uh pillows of Eternity uh which and then you had reminded me that that was

[18:53] actually a kickstarted game right so it’s just a whole that’s such an interesting way to fund a video game like in some Notions too like it’s

[19:05] phenomenal because like as opposed to starting starting with a concept finding Publishers dealing with like the whole

[19:14] politics big company thing going through all the Hass of a game and then hoping people will buy it yeah it’s almost like hey look here is the here is

[19:22] the artwork here’s the gameplay here’s how this thing will go would you buy this game and if enough of you do then it gets built based on the money that

[19:30] you already made right um so so it’s great I mean I think that the problems

[19:37] the kind of arise would be the time it takes to make video games which is very long like especially anything of decent size is difficult right like it just

[19:49] takes years so you know you’re paying years in advance for a game you may never get and that’s the second Point too is just

[19:58] like the unfortunately kickstarters crack record of broken projects where pitching your money hope for the best but the you know group just doesn’t

[20:09] deliver like it kind of falls apart so you’re just left hand sitting there with an empty console like dreaming of what could have been right

[20:17] and your money’s gone already at that point right so um so had you funded a Kickstarter game before yeah I have funded one

[20:26] um and then I’ve bought a couple that have come out of Kickstarter so I wasn’t a backer but um I’ll start with the bad experience

[20:35] Maybe the bad experience is that I did find one by the guys that made um like total Annihilation Supreme

[20:42] Commander so it was like a strategy like massive um you know your base building you’re trying to attack an army very like you

[20:50] know age vampire strategy game but with big robots and lots of cool explosions so they wanted to do the next iteration on their own no publisher to talk to no

[20:59] politics like like you said um Planetary Annihilation which was with planets and you could like build bases and then fire them to the Moon that was

[21:09] actually orbiting in game so armies could be on different planets and then you could smash one of those planets into the other planet to eliminate the

[21:17] enemy and it all sounded like whoa that looks cool they had like a proof of concept video Yeah sign it up and then like Planet smashing it took two three

[21:27] years to come out and it was not very good on it was just the vision was too large um a lot of mechanics didn’t work well

[21:37] it was not optimized I think that’s part of the kickstarter um place is that a lot of these companies don’t have the resources to

[21:44] optimize or maybe just some do it better than others but it was all based on the unity engine and then when you kind of make thousands of things happened at

[21:52] once that engine kind of falls apart or like makes your computer go Haywire trying to render all this stuff so the virus in

[22:00] your computer yeah it didn’t work on release um that well uh these patches were coming but as a self-funded thing I

[22:09] don’t know if they’ve kind of banked resources to patch it so it took them really long to get a patch out that worked for most people and it was just

[22:18] kind of a mess and it uh it wasn’t well reviewed and they upped the price I think on Steam to try and get more money saying it was a better game at a certain

[22:28] point in time uh and it was just it was not a good experience they came out with another Kickstarter as this one was finishing so

[22:36] it was almost like no no wait your resources should be still devoted to finishing and patching this thing no no you’re not done your first don’t you

[22:44] yeah so I can see if you know certain companies treat it differently but I did have a bad experience and I you know it was 20 I think at the time

[22:54] three years ago that okay that’s a few coffees a hundred dollars is that today money that’s gonna be the inflation oh my gosh

[23:03] so you did have a good experience though yeah so a couple good experiences um I didn’t fund them but uh Divinity original sin which I love and pillars of

[23:13] Eternity the one I recently bought were both Kickstarter games they’re the companies that can’t do it right yes so and they’re making a second one

[23:21] it was so successful the first one they went back to Kickstarter explained what they were doing why they were going back because a lot of people questioned that

[23:28] like you made so much money why are you asking us for more and it’s really just to fund the next r d for the next game uh and they had great success with it

[23:37] the game was really well viewed in both the audience and reviewers same with pillars of Eternity maybe it’s a genre that I’m really interested in it’s kind

[23:45] of a top-down isometric fantasy style yeah 90s type of things sure yeah and it they could do what they wanted to do and there was constant like updates and

[23:55] stuff so those are two good experiences that I think really took off but yeah I’ve had I’ve had a few but Planetary Annihilation is is the one that I’ve

[24:06] definitely backed and regretted it after a while but there’s interesting examples too with things like uh Star Citizen yeah which I don’t think technically I

[24:16] don’t think that was on Kickstarter no but it’s still funded right like it’s yeah but it’s just player funded and that things just continued to

[24:24] plot along like it’s very much not much of a finished game at this point but like they keep expanding and to keep talking about new things they’ve taken

[24:32] in gobs and gobs of money apparently and what’s interesting about that one too is like this the constant it’s very much like what green light I think was almost

[24:40] supposed to be or like your purchasers come along for the ride where it’s like look this thing is like super super Alpha there’s so many things

[24:50] missing but like I’d love you to hop in and like tell us what you like and then it’s yeah Community kind of going forward after like paid access to it

[24:57] yeah now the uh so myself I had a it was just before the show we checked it we checked up on it so it it’s a space Ventures

[25:08] um specifically the game was uh let’s see Ace Hardaway okay yeah space Venture so these are the guys who created space Quest the original space

[25:19] Quest so the point-and-click adventure promising right yeah yeah so sorry so I was looking through the foreign

[25:30] hold on because I see that the original estimated delivery because you know these things are time box so you can it only has like let’s call it like months

[25:39] to like fulfill their goal and I see that the estimated delivery was February 2013. oh Wicked so yeah so likely it was even

[25:49] like call it like a at least like almost a year before that so like so you’re talking about five years five years five years

[25:58] which is like I feel more comfortable saying it was four years I’m trying to think about how yeah I feel successful

[26:05] four years yeah four years right before you had a kid you funded this game thinking that years before I had a kid two years before I had a kid

[26:16] and I think about um man like yeah I thought and I the only reason I remembered this

[26:24] was because they actually sent an update email um kind of walking through like the stuff that’s going on like in the

[26:29] progress and they had like a video so that they seem to be making good like I’ll say that they certainly don’t feel like uh

[26:37] charlatans or that they’d lied I think maybe the ambition of us got them caught them up a little bit as far as like what they wanted to produce as

[26:45] opposed to what they first thought so apparently it’s coming still for your kids now it’s like no and now I can’t

[26:54] play it so maybe when my son’s all there and it comes out one day you’re you or your son will be able to play this game yes it continues yeah they got and now

[27:04] that I have a kid like one on Earth would I play this play this game oh and especially if it’s up to I’m

[27:11] curious to see how obtuse it is if it’s obtuse like the old like space Quest ones where it’s like next to impossible to actually yeah beat the thing

[27:19] remember one of the puzzles in Old space Quest is you get shoved down a garbage shoot and you land in a garbage pit okay and I

[27:30] mean I think we only knew about this because we were following a guy but like you have to walk off screen on the left and look at a hole to find a

[27:39] green like glowing green like tube or something and I think you needed that later on like it’s just why on Earth would you

[27:44] ever think to look like just randomly go off screen and look like it’s just so obtuse I think I don’t know if it’s

[27:52] Monkey Island but another one had a similar one where some of the Sierra point-and-click things just like on some random Beach

[27:58] you just had to start digging right digging like a particular spot yeah it wasn’t a bonus like that was like a mission critical item so you didn’t

[28:07] happen in on these exact pixels and dig you did not play that game yeah and it’s like how would you possibly like

[28:16] I can contrast that to like modern games where they hand hold you so much that it’s like press X to defeat the boss and now I’m like we’re talking these old

[28:25] games you’re just like you need this item like 10 screens ago you didn’t find it so now you’re kind of stuck yeah you can’t go back it’s just it you’re

[28:33] finished oh did you save oh that sucks like a huge list of saves like some checkpoint system here and we’re just gonna you should have checked every

[28:46] pixel every frame sorry yeah so yeah so I mean there’s also a big Ruckus with uh green light with steam and then that’s

[28:55] something myself I never got into I don’t know if you ever did no but I kept my eye on it uh there were some good games in green light

[29:04] um darkest dungeon uh one of the biggest uh the what was a huge multi wasn’t it Daisy all right dizzy um I think subnautica

[29:13] was there which again I guess is another one that was kind of in that the beta I think it’s still indeed okay that one actually yeah she’s gonna kill them that

[29:21] one I got yeah because I think one on a massive deal and you had talked about it with long life seem to recall so I picked that one up so I guess

[29:28] technically which is interesting because that one is I I believe it’s still in beta or whatever it’s in um and then I think EA has purchased it

[29:38] so that’s a weird one too where you funded this game in a huge company has walked in with their resource and you’re like what well

[29:48] that’s great for 80 bucks so have they made a statement about that like how would that work like if you I’d have to read up on

[29:59] that but I think it was more about they needed resources they didn’t they wanted this game to be you know that vision and I think EA stuck its

[30:08] hand out and they took it as just something to to use to get to that point I don’t think they’re touching the game per se

[30:17] but who knows behind the scenes right if they don’t think it’s viable they’re gonna definitely direct it a different way so but I’d have to read up on it

[30:25] what happened because you would think they’d have loyalty to the people not yet

[30:34] not the back of careless the Bashi a necessarily but I mean they wouldn’t necessarily have loyalty but you’d almost think that like if

[30:40] you’re gonna purchase us like look we already have yeah so they did the copy of a game to call it a thousand people or ten thousand

[30:49] and you can’t just leave them

[30:56] and that Community can flip pretty quickly so if you have that going for you you’re gonna get those uh reviews pop up on Steam that that can flip your

[31:06] game and kill it just like the ill will too because like in this day and age as far as like that type of thing like that type of ill will

[31:15] towards the customers yeah like it Twitter storm Reddit just face next thing you know it’s just a thousand like viral probes about how

[31:23] these people were left behind and there’s all these like awful like uh email chains like all the awful threads talking about like

[31:30] yeah nothing but negative press for the game yeah so hopefully treated it’s uh initial backers so

[31:41] I mean there’s a massive like release that they’re teasing right now for that another another game I keep my eye on that I never get to touch anymore they

[31:48] sent out like did you have you read any of it have I read up on it yeah have you heard of any like they’re recently like yeah I

[31:55] hear the game is actually pretty serviceable now so oh now it’s great like with the yeah um Explorer vehicles for planets like

[32:03] those are a blast you can visit other people’s planets you can set up a race track for other people to come onto your planet and like try to beat your times

[32:10] like it’s uh Freighters that can get these massive spaceships where you can store like a number of ships if you want to own a

[32:17] couple that’s pretty cool that’s kind of like the original promise was right like they’re they’re there now are getting

[32:24] there yeah in some small ways it’s almost like buying pre-access game and coming along because

[32:30] it uh yeah I I still hold that they did pretty good on delivering what they did on some of the videos and the type of hype like the feeling of it when first

[32:40] playing it like it was really something like I thought that was really incredible um but they’ve definitely taken it

[32:45] further but this current so the current stuff is and I think they did this all within Reddit of all things um it’s a very active form there and

[32:52] they they literally they mailed people started to hear about this um other game I think they’re starting to

[33:01] talk about called like walking Titan or some to that regard okay and people were like surmising about they’re like making all these theories about and then like

[33:09] 13 or 14 people received physical cassette tapes hmm from the company and without any real

[33:17] instruction as to what they were like what they did I don’t think they really I think there’s like some noise on it okay

[33:25] so I think they ought to work together to try to like figure out like what all meant like what was the they probably I’m probably doing this

[33:34] Miss justice as far as like what uh Google’s my buddy because now I don’t know if you folks hanging if they have actually solved this it kind of sounds

[33:40] like that Netflix special with the 13 tapes and then that Viral that went uh we all had to piece together the

[33:50] tapes to make sense of what happened but that’s a pretty cool if that’s like a marketing Ploy that’s a great way to kind of

[34:00] uh test the community and see what people can do with simple things like that right yeah let’s see here

[34:11] the beginner’s guide to walking tight in no man’s Sky ARG uments I think so walking Tiding was just like

[34:25] it’s a series of videos it’s not like a Mech Warrior is it because it sounds to me that that’d be a cool robot neck thing

[34:34] you’d imagine be that cool let’s see here that’s the uh the modern so the moderators from various Dome and Sky

[34:41] subreddits begin receiving packages merchandise and a cassette on the cassettes received let’s see I just want to see if they get got to a

[34:51] answer but that’s for the next update that’s coming out it’s called Walking Titan or something like it’s a code

[35:00] name or tease let’s see big game it’s gonna be all VR now they’re just gonna announce VR it’s called Walking

[35:09] Titan VR you won’t be able to play it you’ll have a second so there’s yes The Walking Dead what’s The Walking time I guess it just basically resulted in

[35:18] like being like a real world quote-unquote game where there’s like websites and puzzles and lore and everything else all

[35:25] pointing back to dates and information about the next no man’s Sky update okay yeah okay so it it’s in fully deep but

[35:37] ultimately to like and that seems like to announce their next massive patch they sent out these physical things and got the entire Community up into a

[35:46] uproar about like what the one on earth it all meant trying to figure it out so that’s good it’s engaging right and that’s what um

[35:54] Kickstarter does too when you back a game you’re depending on the level you’ve backed you’re engaged with the game and you have that kind of game

[36:04] designer itself come out and you can influence uh what they’re doing which is scary too because as a designer

[36:12] as if you’re you know having more Cooks in the kitchen and it’s not always the best thing

[36:22] I don’t know if I lost you or maybe I lost it but I’m still on here I think you dropped

[36:32] let’s see yep sorry no you’re there can you hear me again yep yep yeah so I hit um I leaned on the button on my he fell

[36:45] asleep you leaned on I wish I lean on the button for on the headphones and Siri came up and that just just destroyed the feed I just like all

[36:55] dropped I was like just pause so I don’t know what my feet I don’t know if you saw my video the whole time no it was just frozen it was frozen it was

[37:02] actually your head down the keyboard there it’s like well that’s me staring at like oh God what’s happened

[37:09] oh sorry the um yeah I’ll edit that product but uh it was the last bit so there’s no man’s sky

[37:16] credible stuff uh and that’s what Kickstarter does yeah because often like with the different uh tiers you get involved with

[37:23] then you get the designer inside you get like extra backup stuff yeah which is you know sometimes really cool when it works out like if you get

[37:30] like uh hand-drawn instruction booklet like something that they don’t do anymore that’s kind of cool uh when they can

[37:38] deliver it because there are a lot of horror stories where those things aren’t fulfilled because they’ve either run out of money or they’ve just produced the

[37:45] game and they’re waiting for those funds to roll into then give to all these backers and you kind of have to it’s hard not to think that you own the game

[37:54] at that point if you backed it whereas it’s more of a investment right like this could not pan out and that’s totally cool but I don’t think a lot of

[38:02] people realize that yeah that’s really hard to think of like that’s the absolute truth you know Investments and investment that

[38:10] definitely goes south like you just lose like it’s a bet yeah yeah but from gaming and like with gaming budgets and like okay I’m gonna spend as much as

[38:17] you’re in games or like okay I can afford to get this but then to to do that and not get something yeah they just take that role of the day like uh

[38:26] there is one game uh one last game I’ll talk about um the guy that made Final Fantasy Tactics so like the artist for it or the

[38:34] gameplay designer or something he wanted to kick start his new game and it was the same kind of style isometric had all the levels I’m like oh deal this is

[38:43] perfect it’s got that old school RPG pixel kind of art or the Sprites I’m like yes this is awesome I’m in on this I was just hooked back and like no no

[38:52] I’m gonna hold off I don’t know how long these games usually take forever um this guy’s pretty much a perfectionist so let me just hold off

[39:00] turns out the game’s in like limbo for two years they they got their their funding and then they they just through bad financial decisions burned it all

[39:09] like they needed to get this one uh musician that was gonna do the soundtrack that fell through because he was pulled on to an actual job like

[39:17] these people have jobs during the day and he couldn’t complete his end of the bargain I think he brought it back to life uh recently saying that it’s still

[39:29] going it’s just he’s trying to find other funding uh to get it done but I’m so glad I didn’t back that because that was one thing that just tugged at me and

[39:37] like oh it’s a final fantasy dude it’s Final Fantasy Tactics kind of isometric strategy stuff I’m like

[39:48] man like the high profile ones too that’s interesting like the Castlevania he had one too right I think he got backs I

[39:56] don’t know if it ever released I can’t remember but yeah again high profile yeah these old school guys like getting into the uh the new method yeah

[40:06] forget those Publishers it seems sometimes I think the Publishers are a good thing right when they keep them on track and there’s a time frame and you

[40:14] know they don’t handle the money side of it like no you can’t order in all the time and get like these meals that are paid by back or money or whatever so no

[40:23] that’s not a good use of time like get the course system in place yeah so sometimes yeah that vision is kind of contained and that can work but there’s

[40:32] other companies that can do it well and kind of it’s that willpower thing I don’t know they have to stay on track sleep on my bed of money that I gave you

[40:43] the um in our let’s kick pot let’s kick start this podcast what there you go backwards like backers get like uh behind the scenes footage of like Jeff’s

[40:54] kids even better they get uh babysitting terms on you know some nights Tom backer gets to babysit yeah Dad’s

[41:04] kid yep pictures in the family like there you go yeah so if you have big like big massive on the bottom yeah thanks again for kick

[41:15] starting my life your favorite new Dad yeah call it fun it’s great so speaking of that this has been new dad gaming thank you everybody so much for

[42:03] have a two-year-old and another on the way and I’m Jeff I now have a sleeping seven-year-old and maybe a sleeping

[42:11] four-year-old we’ll see just went for one last like dinosaur elbow oh my God he’s clapping like things yeah yeah I’ll

[42:22] take I’ll take that phrase awesome see you next week yeah peace oh that was so great so many interruptions it’s beautiful

[42:35] it’s been ages since we’ve been interrupted I don’t know which one of us it might have been myself interrupted by crying baby yeah well

[42:43] that’s understandable this is just not abiding by the rules no rebelling and like pushing and it’s like it’s summertime so it’s hard and

[42:54] he’s got a little uh like octopus light that lights up Stars onto the ceiling but he uses that it’s almost like this I’ve walked in on him and he’s got a

[43:04] book he’s using the octopus light to see the pictures and like it looks like he’s Conjuring like this plan this teddy bears around him like all right we’re

[43:14] gonna take the family room then we’re gonna go outside and we’re gonna throw the pillow here knocked it off I’ll buy us five minutes and we’re gonna

[43:21] run this town let’s do it that’s just that new way it’s just like the yeah it’s a very new age way of having like a light underneath the covers yeah but at

[43:29] least it’s like the sneak in a book and it’s not like he’s well that’s what I mean like I can’t scold him he wants to like learn to read which is great but

[43:38] that way I put 10 on your game boy he’s probably hurting his eyes with these little green light that’s emitting in the pages like it’s probably not the

[43:46] best but I got a little headlamp I’m sure it’s approved don’t worry oh laughs

[43:58] [Applause]
