[0:49] adult beverages are poured the kids are asleep welcome to new dad gaming a show about fatherhood gaming and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives my name

[0:57] is Trevor and I have a two year old and another any day now intending and I’m Jeff I have a seven year old and a four year old they’re already here baby watch

[1:14] 2017 that 24 uh you know the TV show 24 with it Dean do you might be Greg is then had no one to expect it it’s like there’s

[1:29] like tsunami of pain and you see it and you just you just wanted to hit this like anticipation before it is just it’s awful

[1:40] and this is the guy that doesn’t have to carry the baby talk in bright way that’s much of my poor wife who has to carry this thing so she at this point when

[1:48] it’s so heavy it’s summer and my and I’m few and as far as like just please be yeah I can I can totally see that like it’s like waiting like for a new game

[2:00] and you just don’t know the launch date you know it’s soon you’re like it is nothing to do that this is a lie sir co-op the Philippine yeah so we owe the

[2:13] due date is officially on Monday well to help with the audit the audit this audio it is when they like four days away yep the official duty is four days away

[2:24] like that that’s the place where we’re at and this is after we really felt it was gonna be early just every inkling every feeling about it was like yeah

[2:35] it’s a physics coming in early so completely wrong so wrong so and the thing I’m telling you the thing that kills me is that you can get you can be

[2:45] like up to two weeks past the due date yeah yeah the thought of going this is this anguish that exists like this waiting anticipation like for two more

[2:56] weeks right it’d just be unbearable and again that that’s coming from the man who doesn’t have to carry the physical child and its

[3:04] stomach right right so are you looking up anything you can do to kind of like move things along I know there’s like hot air balloons it’s like hot haribol

[3:16] that’s not risky at all yeah okay hot tubs no warm warm temps warm tough suck yeah look at someone they see most of them like well as is the case with

[3:27] Internet though Mosul first two links will support it next to linkle debunk it yes somehow scientists talking about it so it’s kind of hard to understand any

[3:36] of it ya know it is just it’s just when your second came like what was that on time was that close what was what did you go

[3:47] through when your sec was on the way um ours would well we had a bunch of monitoring of him and then we were we were actually induced so we had our well

[4:00] we had a caesarean appointment so it was more of a I know the date and time I just made it up an hour before kind of like an airport and like checks bags

[4:11] yeah passports yeah it’s exactly and then yeah she goes in and gets a zipper so no it’s pretty easy like that way but it was working up to it we didn’t know

[4:23] and then they just said that it was we need a book it’s not probably not recommended to go the other way so we booked you like a hotel and my travel

[4:38] points it was great yeah second time checkout time there ain’t gotta go no so yeah I could I don’t know you’re coming from a place where I was for my first so

[4:48] that’s a long time ago for me to remember that but I I was pacing that much loads it’s awful it’s just like it’s all-consuming to sit here and wait

[5:01] for it you’re excited like I really want to meet him yeah I really wanted my wife to have some relief and I have to carry this poor thing around anymore you know

[5:12] and you got everything set up and it’s just like and you know it’s gonna hurt ya you just know it’s gonna hurt in the most wonderful way but it’s like hurts

[5:23] so like so but you just want you don’t you know something that many ways it’s not like the needle itself it’s like the needle like as it’s like a proton that’s

[5:32] the torture yeah so you know we’re just excited to get going I’m excited to meet him that’s good that’s I’m curious I’m curious if I I’m curious if he has a

[5:42] full head of hair like my first kid yeah head of hair such a quaff it was unbelievable huh I just wanted like two for two such things will have more than

[5:55] I have yeah is it just like transplants your kid yeah see if we can borrow some great put those we’ve had a couple weeks there missed and most notably because

[6:09] you had you had a vacation with the family yeah which from a kid perspective I’d be interested in from a game perspective was it just that was all on

[6:19] hold well no gaming we went with another family so they brought their two boys so we had four boys in a condo that we

[6:29] rented so that was a little much all the same age but he’s bring his little much he’s so much he did bring his uh he had a NES classic so he

[6:44] brought that we played some Bubble Bobble whose good times their kids have never seen that before so they were like staring at the screen like would what is

[6:52] this game why are you blinking cuz you know how it would glitch when you like jump and stuff it was so yeah old school so there was some gaming involved but I

[7:01] wouldn’t call this a vacation it was it was more of a went somewhere yeah it went somewhere I was working away from home kind of thing parenting away from

[7:10] home so it we all had fun there was no like big chaos moments or something there is just the regular stuff we had to find out what to do everyday and

[7:23] sometimes we just walked around and they were cool with that they well we had good weather we had some places to go to it was actually in Blue Mountain

[7:32] collingwood here so it was there is a whole village of events and stuff that they can do like scavenger hunts and they had stuff for the kids pretty much

[7:40] every day so they got their entertainment and then we you know did our entertainment with some brewery tours and getting out there so it all

[7:50] ended up with me with the kids are like yeah well my buddies have his kids but I didn’t know so I remember I remember when the with the first one we went to

[8:02] Niagara and we ended up going to a couple of wineries yeah oh the looks we got going to winery well pregnant with

[8:17] [Music] yeah so no it ended up pretty well we when we got home I think the the stamp of that was like a good family vacation

[8:32] was my oldest son who’s 7 was just one night bawling in his room like the patchy red face like crying for no reason we we run in and just ask him

[8:43] what’s happening and he just wanted to go back to the cottage with his friends and everything so no for that to happen I’m like yes the cheapest vacation

[8:52] turned out I hope you delayed that reaction I want to go back yes no consoling or anything just laughing all right high five him walk out the room so

[9:09] it was good it was a good it was a lot I will say it was a lot we still had to cook our own meals every night and coordinated all that deal with random

[9:19] kid stuff but we made it fun it was relatively easy when they’re older I think when we did the same thing last year it was a little bit a little bit

[9:26] tougher with my youngest being he was still kind of training over the night so he had the diapers and his own little mattress and stuff like that so this was

[9:37] a walk in the park so it was good it was good time sounds like though like it gets easier yeah yeah totally go and do their own thing

[9:46] so much easier so only nice for you only four or five more years buddy stick it out I don’t you find the same thing in those

[10:00] type of circumstances so like I’ve noticed with we have extra dalts or if it’s a family gathering and even if other people bring kids it’s like two on

[10:10] two seems to be incredibly difficult like it there’s at some point the other person has to do something you’re a hundred percent on but if it’s four and

[10:19] four or it’s you know six on six even though like whatever like it starts like balance out more in the sense that I get it you’re you can be less focused and a

[10:30] bit more relaxed yeah go get that I can totally get that I think kids realize that they kinda have to be on their best behavior when there’s a guest too so I

[10:40] think when you get like that extra adult that’s not that your mom or dad they are like I don’t know you well enough to manipulate you so I think the week is

[10:51] the perfect time until they try to figure that person out then they know how to run the room so I’m gonna have to put on a mustache so it’s cool no

[11:01] the kids kinda like so the kids entertainment kids and they’re all kind of playing and then you have one or two adults that are kind of that could then

[11:08] it that’s kind of staged watch the four of them yeah and the other ones in kind of just relax a bit and then yeah and just that way to like the tasks are

[11:17] broken up so like two people can kind of cook for four or six and then like two people can do dishes for four or six and like it so I think it certainly speaks

[11:26] to the community thing yeah if it all wrong yeah it’s like an old like the village concept where everyone kind of like gathered around the new baby and

[11:36] helped out the that way when we cook one we clean when we look after the kid they all say oh so we’ve had my wife’s parents are up visiting from South

[11:47] America Colombia specifically and it’s been just unbelievable it’s been so wonderful to have them here for many reasons I firstly it’s just the help of

[11:58] course like it’s incredible they wake up with them they take them to daycare they help with okay like it’s just everything they’ve been so wonderful yeah just a

[12:07] family aspect of it too like I find really calming and reassuring like when you have a house and it’s more full with family members you can find out

[12:17] something that actually provides a Kawada happiness for me than just like the numbers are much better like that’s four

[12:24] on one right now yeah like in-laws are not in the room with you now are they you know yes I’m speaking so long okay yeah no no it’s so

[12:36] it’s been a didn’t know it’s been an absolute really I’m so grateful that they’re here especially like once the second one hit this new one hits yeah

[12:44] thinking them yeah it’s gonna be immeasurable here you take this one and I’ll take this one I’m telling you I think we got it all

[12:53] wrong the way like people structure their lives now like I just don’t think you’re supposed to have kids by yourself like

[13:00] it’s yes like it’s totally doable people are doing fine it’s absolutely doable but it’s just it’s like you know you could

[13:11] well you could swim across the canal you app you can but you could also take a boat and it’s the boats a lot easier and has more people on it helping it you

[13:22] know and just like that yeah the way we’ve structured it where it’s just you’d punt off by yourselves and then just deal with it as individuals

[13:32] without any kind of like external without community without specifically family like I just these type of experiences really make me question

[13:41] sometimes in with you like retirement age just to see if you’re gonna come back and help your kids at with their gaming

[13:53] 20:26 do skids share good luck came up with some good story the energy that then what they’ve had that Gregg parents find for grandkids too is really kind of

[14:08] amazing they must dig deep for that stuff too I see I pass out on the couch every afternoon I couldn’t imagine that Oh

[14:21] so the yeah so if I’m a gaming said you’d mentioned before the show that you bit the bullet and also got into no man’s sky so just yeah I agree

[14:32] Eid is now at some point plate yeah I think it was just your words of encouragement they just gots me after twelve months and I had to pick it up

[14:47] but no I found out well I saw that hatless update which apparently have just changed the game entirely and it looked really interesting so went on

[14:58] Kijiji found a copy for like 15 bucks picked it up on my way my way back from baking popped it in there and waited for the

[15:07] patch to download and install and yeah that’s an experience I don’t know let me share my starting planet cuz I knew nothing about the game I didn’t know the

[15:17] controls but I said I just heard it I’m probably like the worst planet that the game could introduce you to it’s got acid rain so I get out of my

[15:27] ship I got acid rain my health startin be eaten away it’s a warning me that my health is you know depleting um it gets

[15:36] cold at night so when the Sun drops temperature thing activates and my suit can’t take it for very long so I’m running around this planet trying to

[15:48] find caves and minerals to start up my boosters to get off this rock there’s no way I’m staying on this planet but every mineral that I’ve like try to come

[15:58] across I’m like wow I I used my mining laser I guess you get the mining gun or whatever I used all the power up because I didn’t I just thought it was like

[16:07] something that regenerated over time so I’m smashing rocks like a caveman this cave hiding from the acidic rain so it was it was an experience I will tell you

[16:19] what wow that’s something you playing just a normal mode or the survival mode whatever pretty hard frog whatever the regular is so I don’t know if is

[16:30] survival you doesn’t after casting here I was like normal when they introduced was normal which is their what they call it they’re chill experience and though

[16:39] they serve audible which is just it’s just a bit harder and then there’s a more extreme one which is permadeath where it’s just like yeah I once you’re

[16:47] done like you’re out I’m pretty sure it’s a survival in it did not feel chill it felt like I was running around trying to rummage for whatever to get only why

[16:58] did I crash on this planet out of all one’s for that what’s your take on oh yeah are you fighting like so obviously not a great start but the well

[17:07] actually that would win or yeah I think you know it was frustrating at the start because I didn’t know what to do and I was dying as I was trying to figure it

[17:15] out but after that I think that kind of grew the thick skin for me to take on the next planet because by the time I got on got my ship off the plane and got

[17:28] to the next one it was like this Green Haven with water and the animals and I could just stop and think so I think it was like good to have that rush like oh

[17:37] god I like crashing planet I have to find my minerals and food and engine boost and everything to get off and now I can look for a place

[17:46] to build my base and take on these quests sir popping up which i think is one of the changes that it kind of guides you along which I could totally

[17:56] get if you didn’t have that you kind of be way out in the open not knowing exactly what to do but I’m taking on those quests and then I’m kind of just

[18:06] not doing them for a while and chilling out and mining what I can and building up like what I can on my base which is cool

[18:13] so yeah it’s totally like a drop in and drop out game I can see it as one of those things if you just want to kind of relax and let the universe take you then

[18:23] it’s a good game for that and I’ve renamed my planets they’re mine now so anyone discovers them they’re named after my kids there you go no one has

[18:36] like two moons yeah yes right there but no it’s a good it’s a good experience I’m not sure what it was before the big update but no it’s it’s worked out quite

[18:48] well so yeah I think before was a lot more freeform and just like here is a universe get at it here’s like one central story that was really wasn’t

[18:56] very coherent and kind of vague and just like you kind of puttered towards it one way or the other oh but it wasn’t much of a drive for it

[19:07] but no from everything I’ve seen I the best part I haven’t been able to play it but I know looking at it and it’s just like man okay that’s like the one I too

[19:23] is like I wanted to wanted to do it as like a almost like a weird meditation because you remember when I was playing it like I got such amazing sleeps yeah

[19:34] for that like yeah yeah because they brought you down so like I just like floating in space but I don’t I haven’t had the chance to look at it yet

[19:44] you missing out I’m in there man I’ll find you yeah well they introduced small some multiplayer ish that’s right yeah like I only see like floating orbs

[19:55] repeat we’re supposed to be not it’s great it’s fantastic man I’m really happy they persevered and they’re released it because I I really did

[20:03] honestly see the potential of it I I liked it when it first released it was what I was looking for it was what I kind of expected I had a great time so I

[20:11] never had any qualms with it but to see the reaction to it and to see the potential where it could go you’re just really hoping that they kept at it after

[20:20] that type of backlash you could almost imagine they just said like well pour out my gets enjoyed it’s done they went dark for almost like eight months and

[20:29] just I thought that was the end of it they were gonna do some tweaks and then move on but no there you know credits do man they they really worked their butts

[20:38] off and got a very extensive patch if you read the notes it’s a just different game and and it’s like and it just like builds upon so

[20:47] beautifully everything else had done already vehicles bases the freighters like it just really nailed it up so that’s good

[20:55] man I’m just really stoked to the other people gonna get into it now ya know it is there every new dead every new dad has played it now well there you go it’s

[21:03] highly it’s recommended from all new dads now we took a year yeah you can get it yeah the show like the history of like they up new dads came on we need ya

[21:13] montage going on I just like watch that I hate it now once they fun did you play the update I’ll be like oh oh the changes it’s so

[21:21] mainstream now each street oh the so we had I think it probably would’ve been right after we last spoke so while a relatively while ago

[21:34] but we had a weekend up at my parents place it’s a cottage so just completely disconnected not grandparents want to see little guy we want to see them

[21:44] before we had next one of course and so being disconnecting everything else it’s like I feels like this could be so so one night so

[21:56] I’m gonna do is I’m gonna have some beers and I’m gonna bring the PlayStation and since there’s grandparents to wake up with a kid I’m

[22:04] gonna have a night like I’m gonna I’m gonna play some games in what could be the final game session I have from once a new guy comes on and

[22:17] so I beat uncharted 4 yes yeah happy mantastic man what a he’s what a satisfying end just like it wasn’t really good ending I will give them that

[22:31] and just like through like far as like um yeah just like leaving you feeling like rewarded like at peace like a great story

[22:41] yeah they concluded think it’s just like yeah yeah thank you perfect exactly what you want it might be something like uncharted it might very well be the

[22:51] Madden for people who don’t play sports games where I mean that um like Madden is guaranteed the experience that you’re gonna have right they’re gonna make some

[23:01] differences or some changes maybe don’t like a few of them but ultimately some people play games just for sports and it’s NHL or it’s Madden it’s consistent

[23:10] it’s known it’s just guaranteed fantastic experience right the way this is put together is so between like the cinematics the gameplay is relatively

[23:20] simple if challenging you can like lower it down so highly polished and produced and the weight like leads you through the

[23:29] entire Lea story like it just feels like anytime you if you just wanted I just I don’t need to I only have so little time I want to play game where it’s like

[23:37] guarantee be great yeah this is your game like it’s just like this is gonna be fantastic like this experience is gonna be amazing for you and look

[23:45] amazing and feel amazing and like end amazing yeah I know I I generally felt with that game that all the environments are just like works of art right so you

[23:55] kind of go into this new like masterpiece and yeah I remember stopping and looking around because it’s like they rush you through it you’re like no

[24:03] no I need it like I need a look at this like well and especially when you get into the later levels where there’s like it’s all like destroyed in ruins

[24:12] and stuff and you’re looking around you’re like what actually happened here you know everything has a story and you can kind of connect the pieces along and

[24:20] I find that so neat that the whole environmental design is part of the story but they don’t like push it in your face it’s just like if you want to

[24:27] stop and look go ahead if not continue on like ever just like yeah okay struck me just like the sheer number of scenes just even how they built it like

[24:38] because the moments guys has millions upon millions of planets but it’s procedural so it’s just like it’s just math and it produces itself this like

[24:47] human hands crafted yeah every single scene and there’s just so many and there every single they did not skip a single one like there’s never one part was like

[24:57] well this is they got kind of lazy yeah yeah right just right up to the very end it’s like every card is like man like how long did a level designer spend on

[25:07] this like room yeah and you blast past it well I don’t know like the whole like you’re in the you’re in the car and being like dragged by the Rope and

[25:16] you’re just racing through this fully built city I’m liking this this probably took months to build and you’re just literally through it like 30 seconds

[25:25] trying to find out wait next part I’m telling you like that’s you take some of these games back to like younger are younger selfs and just how trying to

[25:34] explain like where this would go you know like you’re sitting there like a dolt trying to get through Mario World yeah yeah I think this is one of this

[25:42] ghosts okay this is what this ends up and I don’t know how you’d possibly get younger you to believe it like it’s just like no why are you watching a movie

[25:54] you’re playing this this yeah oh gotta be one my favorite reactions with it just where it’s you’re watching the cutscene everything’s kinda moving Osten

[26:04] like everything’s kind of stopped yeah cuz you realize that a way to have control the character play now yeah I always wanted like a prompt like move

[26:13] joystick forward to move Drake like you’re like oh I’m playing sorry didn’t know okay classic like 90s or 2000s we’re like Bigfoot the character will

[26:22] turn around and like wave at the screen yeah tell you to get moving yeah so the uh that’s good and glad you enjoyed it it was a good game for me I

[26:31] didn’t get the expansion though which just launched so that’s next on my list like a gives you a more story or like what’s the it follows Chloe so the one

[26:43] girl you kind of she was more of a major part of the previous ones and then the one girl I think his name was Nadine or Nadia yeah so they follow it follows

[26:56] those two and it’s a whole new story it was just supposed to be like I guess an extra level but they made it a standalone because it’s a full I think

[27:06] 12 to 15 hours of new game with new area and new everything so if you bought the season pass in the beginning which I never do cuz it’s just insane amount you

[27:18] got this fifty dollar game for 20 bucks so I’ll wait it out for a little bit but it’s interesting to knows yes I just really thought it was a brand new game

[27:29] my god I didn’t know there was any like tied to the besides the characters of course I didn’t know there was any tie to the yeah I think it’s less less of a

[27:36] tie now because if it’s standalone you can just literally jump in there and not know when charted for but they was just meant to be like a kind of add-on but I

[27:44] guess they got carried away no it’s oddly an interesting take call mine in reviewing of it where they said that the is this like an end or is it

[27:53] like a better beginning in the sense that as far as far as the Uncharted series like just you know Nathan’s done nothing but now like these to start like

[28:03] so you have Nadine and the other girl that was like the main protagonist so I think it’s a that’s a hard self and like just with Tomb Raider right there but

[28:11] they can do it if it’s any studio they can do it it’s them yeah it’s different vibe from two great just with the female protagonist that’s I think that’s like

[28:21] probably the closest like Indiana Jones kind of Tomb Raider it’s like the same feeling to each but I don’t know I think it looks gorgeous yeah I just wonder

[28:31] think we’re out there welcome because like the four was such a great end the sex one would be kind of like for anybody

[28:37] jonesing for something else here’s one last shot but if he did another full game I like it it feels like it might get a little bit too Sammy well yeah how

[28:46] many like can you climb before like overstay its welcome kind of thing I did want to have to do an expansion on the pirate aspect like what happened before

[28:55] so I won’t spoil any in the endings but if it was the other side of that back in that time like they introduced like these mechanics that you don’t ever get

[29:03] to use except for the one fight and you’re like that would have been the neat thing but I guess it wouldn’t have been Uncharted so you’ve been like

[29:10] hasn’t screwed back Legos or something so well I mean that works so well for ugh that works so well for the Assassin’s Creed my good yeah I’m just

[29:20] being pirate simulator yeah one of my favorite games so never played it all you need to love it yeah I’ll put that on the queue

[29:30] don’t worry yeah let me get into ten years but yeah so that’s uh there’s a good way to sign off the gaming cuz just like well my claims was letter bye see

[30:06] and his sleeping was so awful like he had to hold him to like for him to sleep a lot and generally what I do is to let my wife sleep is I’d I would just like

[30:15] rock him for like two or three hours right well give her that because otherwise he’s gonna be up and crying and then like you know the house is up

[30:21] so like I just rocked him for two or three hours and at that time I had my phone so it was um you know that hurts tear on the woman he ate her so yeah you

[30:30] know anything I get on the mobile and as I can focus so like it I’ve even mentioned on the show it’s like okay well maybe I’ll find some games on

[30:37] mobile that I can play should that case happen again right we just don’t know like I just don’t much maybe he’s gonna be great he sleeps through the night

[30:46] maybe it’s sort of like he does not he need you in the room but you’re not allowed to like what what is this baby gonna be

[30:54] airman I don’t know they’re always different my experience at least who’s polar opposites what was going on first one was a great sleeper a second one not

[31:04] so much so yeah so so this one our current one didn’t sleep doesn’t eat right super high energy independence not the right

[31:17] way to say it but definitely was like what’s that this confident like overly confident this goes off in his own home and yeah well I just mean like you when

[31:27] I hang out with him sometimes like in the park whatever else it’s not really so much like I’m leading him to the park it’s much more like I’m just tailing him

[31:35] as he as he has an adventure and just goes where he pleases yeah he’s making his own story yeah especially gonna place like a park like

[31:43] that’s great because I just can’t hear what it would have to happen is I’d have to like force him into like the fenced area with the rest of the park a place

[31:52] that he’s like he just that he did some slides he did some clients he had a great time but now he’s like done with it so he wants a stroll in this

[32:00] direction yeah it’s O’s and he goes and he goes he goes and I just kind of follow along and then we like chat back and forth cuz he

[32:07] finds things I think I mentioned before but then we had to always end up in the dog park and I’m always worried child services will find out like I’m right

[32:15] looks like I’m running him like a dog thanks Casey Hudson area he’s let him run around was why it’s gravel he’s jumping on dogs like he’s chasing balls

[32:25] and just like I swear this is what he wanted this is not my approach to parenting we had him in this jungle gym I promise you yeah oh we will see but

[32:41] man countdown I don’t know if we’re gonna have another episode before the next one seems kind of a yeah all up in the air hinging on number two I’m gonna

[32:51] drop so it’s gonna have to be like a 15-minute check-in I just like from your car or something you’re like yeah set a hospital and

[33:01] I mean more like just like I have to go pick up diapers quick up yep on the road the you know diaper prices rose in two years I can’t
