[0:00] remember one of the worst ones I had was a self-inflicted it was after Beer Fest oh and uh oh my God the next day it was like that was my pass for the day slash

[0:13] night so it was my turn to watch the kids the next day it was like they wouldn’t stop spinning and then the room spun the other way and then I just

[0:20] reaching at them be like just stop everybody just stop daddy need to rest that was the last day daddy ever drank

[0:32] yeah one argument for sobriety but then again it’s probably the same argument to drink

[0:45] so adult beverages are poored the kids are asleep it is time for new dad gaming a show about gaming fatherhood and new fathers figuring out their gaming lives

[0:54] as Gavin takes a very well-deserved drink from his beer so well timed y my name is Trevor and I have a one-year-old my name is Gavin and I have

[1:05] a 10mon old my name is Jeff I have a 5-year-old and a three-year-old and a tall

[1:15] boy that was a cliffhanger you had me like oh and a newborn and remember I said last episode yeah no not gonna be lately like is this no somebody call

[1:30] him on if you do a little dance so by by our by our own rules I’m not exactly sure like as a month’s change do I say

[1:40] one year one month or like for the next year do I just say I have a one-year-old because we just we discussed how terrible it is to count months so like a

[1:48] 13-month old 14-month old as opposed to a year but what am I supposed to do now every you’re on the FES you’re on the point FES year year and a half just do

[1:57] it quarterly quarterly one a like a financial report just projections this this qut has been all downhill one in Q3 yeah I I’m very adamant about not

[2:13] counting months at this point he’s one we’re we’re in a Q2 of our second uh second fiscal and uh so far so good second parental second parental

[2:26] there you go done the um I’ll post something to you guys right off the top and I think like Jeff i’ be well actually you’re kind of the

[2:34] exception but I I went on a lark I went into a GameStop I was in a mall just picking up some other stuff and there was a GameStops sitting there like a you

[2:43] know Big Chain retailer and like that and that place is weird now like there’s so there’s so many toys as opposed to actual games and

[2:52] yeah they really want for the yeah and then additionally like all the new collectible style games like the Skylander stuff there’s of course the

[3:02] old guitar hero stuff sitting in a sad Pile in a corner but more that interesting enough HMV in fact is also just a very weird place to go into cuz

[3:14] in our youth it was CDs and now it’s nothing but like band paraphernalia and like Collectibles like you said but specifically the gam stop like that what

[3:23] was interesting was hearing the employee try to explain gaming and game DLC to an unsuspecting parent where it’s like no

[3:34] no no so this disc uh is just the on the multiplayer the the campaign like the one player campaign is DLC you’re going to have to buy that separately in the

[3:43] store it’s like what do you mean it’s it’s a game on a disc like no no no ma’am you have to you’re going to have to put it in and then you have to

[3:49] download the update that’s going to be about two gigs what’s a gig never mind that and then you have to buy the second thing separately what if I want to play

[3:58] this character no no no ma’am that’s that’s a DLC character what’s DLC downloadable content you have to buy that it’s just like it just blew like

[4:06] she so terribly unprepared for it and we’re just in this weird state right now where it’s there’s parents were far enough with us it was easy right mom I

[4:17] want on the box it says this it says like Donkey Kong yeah here’s a photo I want that box mhm yeah and then she bought that box and I put into this

[4:27] thing and it was fine and now like it’s changed so rapidly that the current generation of parents I think are just terribly overwhelmed yeah felt awful

[4:39] like I’m even overwhelmed with how like kind of compartmentalized and convoluted game purchasing is now where like will take the experience and they’ll just

[4:50] slice it up into a pie and it’s like sure you get the big chunk of pie but the full experience and it’s just this whole idea of like how can we get a

[5:01] little bit more ever the consumer but the worst part is too is that the Bas price now is like 80 bucks Canadian that’s like 20 bucks America

[5:12] um but yeah plus the DLC right yeah the cost of entury is really really high and then you’re still not getting the full experience because it’s been divied up

[5:21] but I think um we should archive this episode so that way in 20 years when Trevor is shopping and they’re talking to him about memory

[5:31] gel tubes and he’s all confused about oh wait do I need the me memory gel tube and said well yes we have to fold it up to the Sun during the solsis for to

[5:41] download when he has that conversation yeah or you can’t even buy it because it’s like a virtual reality retina scan like S no sir no sorry your account you

[5:52] don’t have right pter for yeah can’t do it well that was like that’s exactly it though it’s just like my thought my what

[6:03] I was wondering as I’m listening to this poor and I was listening to it too like it’s like I’m we we’re in it so we get it but hearing it like a new is just

[6:11] like wow this stuff is really crazy that business model because they assume everybody is everybody doing the purchasing is an

[6:22] Enthusiast and that’s often not the case and even within our generation there’s a substantial percentage of the generation for not

[6:31] enthusiasts so when you make it so unapproachable it’s hard for it to become a commodity that can use as a gift and it’s going to be one of those

[6:42] things where eventually it’s just going to be a gift card kind of gift um you know it’s the same as as you know uh shopping for for Cosmetics if you tend

[6:54] not to use a lot of Cosmetics um sometimes it can be so um intimidating that you’re just like oh

[7:04] it’s like when you watch like on Valentine’s Day when you’re at the mall and you’re watching all these really nervous men walk into lingerie stores

[7:10] for like the one time a year they walk into a lingerie store because they just you don’t know it’s like so do I buy the top and bottom name separate how does it

[7:20] what number do I is it metric how do I measure thing and just this like how many feet how many what is it this comes with less and

[7:31] it costs more I don’t get it yeah how many ounces I don’t I don’t understand many how many cups in a pint oh not that kind of cup oh well then okay so like

[7:42] it’s that that sense but it’s like we’re getting that now with like an entertainment medium in reality was is a bit of an entertainment medium

[7:51] but that idea that like a parent trying to buy something for their kid and it’s not just a pay wall it’s a um it’s a learning curve it’s it’s like

[8:03] a a comprehension wall That’s preventing them from being able to get this cool thing for their kid and sometimes too they might end up over purchasing just

[8:10] to be safe and it’s like well I don’t know which Skylander they want so buy them all you know could be bonus to the kid I wonder like so so je I mean Jeff

[8:22] you’re the only one but with so with us we’re kind of up on it now and then and this as our hobby I’d like to think that we’ll maintain it I’m just kind of

[8:30] curious if we would I guess I’m trying to like think to the there’s an audio file like a guy who was just super into um audio

[8:40] equipment in the 60s like ever lose his touch so that like now if you went into a story he wouldn’t be able to know the base level like equipment or the

[8:48] components and the parts and I wonder like are we ever going to lose our Edge and when our future kids like are looking for certain parts we like just

[8:57] throw our hands up in the air like I don’t get it like I don’t are we G will we always be knowledgeable enough are we going to lose it I think

[9:03] we have to make some uh uh compromises right even just being a parent and not having enough time to keep like I I I won’t I don’t think I can see myself

[9:14] falling behind on the hardware side of stuff and even how the games kind of fit with the whatever Hardware but I can see myself falling behind uh in certain

[9:23] games like with Minecraft I get it I know what it is but the things people do with it and set up different servers and run different mods with it I have no

[9:33] idea what they’re doing and I used to be in that scene but not anymore well that’s the thing too is eventually as well like like uh I I don’t I I care

[9:45] less about apps honestly like I barely use them I find I get along in my life buy without them um and sure like I know enough about them to understand how they

[10:00] should be utilized safely um so I understand how to kind of guide my child into using them um but also like I won’t be up on the the latest trends because

[10:15] it’s less to do with me falling behind as me just not getting on the train in the first place just like I don’t care I don’t care I have other entertainment

[10:26] and Technology things that I like and that I enjoy I don’t need to be up on all of them it’s fine it’s the same as like the audio file not really caring

[10:35] about how uh video projectors work you know yeah it’s AV Equipment but he doesn’t really care about the V so he just Le it alone um and yeah I think

[10:47] eventually I’m going to drop off like I think it’s natural for most people to eventually just be like Yep this is my Plato I’m happy here ride it to the end

[10:57] you know like there’s a lot of happy happy people with silver hair just sitting on mountain of vinyl just enjoying and all the best to them you

[11:10] know I don’t need to try to convince them to convert to MK3 they’re happy believe in me again like Trevor said Time Capsule we’ll play this back in

[11:19] like 20 years see where we’re at yeah I got caught a bit because the I was looking at um I was half considering getting a DS Nintendo DS just because of

[11:27] the going an old like Nintendo kick um realizing I played that type of stuff for a while but then there was there’s a 3DS so the 3D version and the normal DS

[11:37] and yeah I had to pause I’m like wait yeah can these play each other like I don’t know there’s the new 3DS right there’s the 3DS and then the new 3DS I

[11:46] was wor buy a game for one that wouldn’t actually work with the other one I was just like oh no it’s happening yes it does the backward

[11:53] compatibility and like the chronological order of all these different iterations and it’s like what Library like is like if you get a game is it still within the

[12:03] confines of this one library or did you overshoot or under shoot yeah I had to do the same thing when I was buying uh my son the 3DS right so the new 3DS was

[12:14] coming out with a dual thumb sticks and the old 3DS only has the one thumb stick and then the directional so that’s where they improved it but then I looked at

[12:23] the 2DS I’m like well maybe I just go that way it doesn’t fold it’s just a big hunk of plastic it’s basically like a tablet behind it and then it’s separated

[12:31] by plastic into two screens like maybe I should just do that that’s like $80 whatever but then I’m like well certain games don’t work on that one that have

[12:40] the 3D capability of the other one and he can’t do the 3D yet but I kind of want to do the 3D so I don’t know you have to you have to

[12:49] do your research but I think that’s where our generation is kind of we’re kind of good at right I think we would go and research it and come to a

[12:56] conclusion whereas the previous generation would be like they would go to the The Game Spot or I think that’s that’s

[13:02] the difference is the ones who I’m going to Google this a bit at home before I head out and like when I do if I do decide to just go to a brick and morar

[13:11] to buy the thing yeah I’m G to have it serial number I’m going to know their inventory stock levels I’m and just be like I want this thing

[13:22] you have five in the back stck room on the fifth shelf how do you know that never mind how I know it by the way the security your ccts upgrading so just

[13:32] give me what I want when go home and not even like uh going home and Googling or doing it before you leave I mean the Advent of these smartphones

[13:41] being able to just on the spot like tap tap tap tap tap oh okay that’s the wrong one I think like the conversation you witnessed up that store might have been

[13:50] better to have been had with Siri as opposed to the poor you know shop clerk um but at the end of the day too like that is their job like they’re there to

[14:02] kind of like I understand the frustration of talking to somebody who’s not SV but that’s their primary job is to take the hand of someone who needs

[14:12] help you know they’re not there for somebody like me with the exception of making sure that new stuff’s on the Shelf um they’re there for the people

[14:20] who don’t know what they’re doing so you know I I think that’s a good test for somebody who is in that sort of a job because like you know otherwise

[14:30] they’re not really earning anything like they’re basically just vending machine security guard you know a Skylander security guard tou

[14:43] those the merch speaking of legacies of old there’s the E3 is coming up which yes bizarrely nonrelevant in the the Game

[14:59] World in some ways where you know yeah I mean I suppose started off that way like what does E3 mean to you guys now and you think it’s going to mean anything to

[15:08] your kid um I think it’s still exciting to see the announcements but I think it’s a lot of those games are a few

[15:18] years off right so like last year was crazy with the Final Fantasy 7 remake but I know that’s like when my son goes to college I’ll finally get to play it

[15:29] um so I think it’s more of a like wait and see and then wait again so I still like the announcements it’s kind of cool to see what people do but there’s so

[15:38] much uh like the time period like no man’s sky for instance that was announced supposed to be out a certain time it’s delayed almost a year um might

[15:48] go to VR might you know go another step um I I just think it’s it’s a lot of uh like there’s even graphical downgrading and some of the

[15:59] so what you see in E3 is not necessarily the product you’re going to get so you get excited kind of like for nothing so and then it’s just being a dad like like

[16:09] we all have a lot of games in our backlog are we going to play all these games or just wait for them to go on sale well that’s the thing like I’m more

[16:17] excited to get my hands on Doom and I’ve actually started to get the OverWatch itch so I have a feeling like might into that break my uh my nor multiplayer

[16:30] streak um you might actually buy over a lot of stuff out right now that I’m really excited to get my hands on so it maybe it’s a situation where yeah

[16:42] the dad backlog is removing that anticipation because my appetite is still being satisfied with what’s on my shelf and what’s on the Shelf somewhere

[16:51] else that i’ get to pick up that but I’m curious about it and I’m like oh this is cool but that sense of like that Christmas morning excitement when they

[17:00] do the big press conferences it’s not really hitting me as much as it did like a few years back when like I had my buddy over and we sit and watch it on my

[17:08] TV and actually just like you know make some popcorn really get into it um yeah I think I don’t know what’s like even look at Nintendo right they used to be

[17:21] like some of the magic at E3 and now they have Zelda like that’s all they’re showing at this E3 is Zelda and a couple other games it’s like well like even for

[17:32] my son I’m like maybe there’s another game or even if it’s another Mario Kart or something that’s being announced it’s like no they’re still working on Zelda

[17:40] and it might not even be Wii U now it might be their next console because they missed an entire generation yeah to get a Zelda out so even they’re taking

[17:49] longer in terms of getting their games out the door fine tuning I’m sure it’ll be great but like I’m not going to show my kid even an announcement and then be

[17:58] like okay save up your money in four years yeah just I just don’t know if there anything they’re going to if anything it was like a it feels like it

[18:06] was a conference that benefited from a lack of information or distribution where you know besides magazines and some other maybe TV but how would you do

[18:15] it like this was the event to get your news out there now it’s so easy to get any type of message out Twitter Facebook YouTube videos like website just blow it

[18:26] up yourself I mean there’s 20 how many game websites are there now with instant news so well even on top of that when you look at the um what the Expo and

[18:35] Convention scene and how that’s blown up in the last five years like you look five years ago and as far as like big launch announcements E3 was the only

[18:43] platform to do it but now you have a lot of developers who are holding off and doing your announcements ofing announ you see your your at or ComiCon you know

[18:53] when you have games being announced at Comic-Con instead of um it’s spreading out that announcement uh

[19:04] know it’s peppering out throughout the year as opposed to having all those announcements from those Publishers all at once so I think that this is a sense

[19:13] like yeah as you said year round 24-hour coverage on multiple different Vlogs and then on top of that E3 is not the only game in town for big convention

[19:24] announcements um so I think we’re seeing a lot like GBC is for a lot of the stuff that’s announced um especially packs you know you have like indicate

[19:34] announcements there’s a lot of different venu that there now that will allow a nice big stage and a nice big opportunity and I think also too a lot

[19:44] of games that were in development were getting kind of ground out at E3 by the big studios so they start going to things like packs to do their

[19:52] announcement because they know get more Spotlight um and because you know they don’t have the large studio backing them that these median studios are like well

[20:02] we’re going to announce of this thing because you know we’re going to get more attention or we’ll at least get a little bit more uh more buzz and more media

[20:11] Buzz um so I think that’s also sort of spread things out and made people not they’re kind of condensing or they’re spreading their attention across

[20:22] the years as opposed to everybody focusing on this one week all the announcements just Easter Christmas just get it all in there well even look at

[20:32] this platform right like the next Call of Duty and Battlefield were announced on YouTube as a video all right and that was all they needed what are you going

[20:40] to do at E3 like you’re going to show a little bit more footage you might have it playable if that’s the PLL but then everybody else has their own conferences

[20:48] during the year and then even award shows show you know has a press conference have all the Publishers themselves the larger companies

[20:59] themselves have their own conferences right before they would r on E3 or now it’s like we got our own thing this is our moment is just all about us we don’t

[21:08] just have a single like announcement show like we have an entire three-day weekend event to just talk good stuff coming out on

[21:18] our system yeah nothing I mean I guess so what you guys think though with more events it’s not so much the one massive

[21:28] event that rules them all but with packs and other ones would you think that our kids would be able to attend a gaming event then like a big show although it’s

[21:37] not the show but maybe a p pack Junior PS East like think it’ll still exist as a venue or that’ll go away well I think they’ll they’ll definitely exist I think

[21:47] like these things are doing so well they make a lot of money at these events just from like admission and merch and stuff like that

[21:54] there’s it’s not just a marketing tool like there is actually they are a fairly successful event with the know advertising marketing money that the

[22:04] event itself generates from bringing on all these exhibitors um like Fan Expo hasn’t hasn’t been this big ever you know even like for Comicon I think this

[22:16] sense of everybody go and check stuff and also that sense of being to see it alongside other people um that spectacle has made these events huge um getting

[22:28] into these events is like trying to get into a rock festival you know but instead of like sitting and watching a bunch of like Rock Fans perform you’re

[22:38] you’re going in seeing a bunch of games get CH here and watching people play the live or have TS like that so I don’t think they’re going anywhere anytime F

[22:47] anytime soon it’s I think they’re here to say for sure it really this comes down to is it something that’s where is the pr as far as like

[22:59] how involved are you in this particular um interest yeah I could I could see that or even if the industry wants it anymore

[23:12] right like if EA were to say hey we’re not going to do this anymore we’re just going to announce our own stuff on our own YouTube channel look at Nintendo

[23:19] they don’t even do through live conferences anymore they do like that Nintendo Direct or whatever right their own from their president like more a

[23:30] personal thing from them too so I don’t know maybe it’s it exists but just in an evolutionary State like it’s there still going have big conenction hes full of

[23:39] people just aling each other to see something new like it’s it’s human nature we love seeing big it’s just it’s a it’s a less bloody Coliseum and people

[23:51] just want to go and be entertained you know I mean if I could go I would love to go like but it’s just it’s what San Francisco or wherever it is yeah I would

[24:02] love to go to one but just yeah they are like even even like B xbo and shonto is is is fun to Rend like it’s just it’s just

[24:13] entertaining um but yeah they are they are a lot to take in too it’s one of those things where it’s like you go and like that the response

[24:25] is one of two things it’s either like oh that was awesome do that again I was like oh that was cool did that you just over over stimulated when you walk in I

[24:35] could just see myself just light up like I don’t know where to go now yeah um is there’s anything you guys would like to see announced then like s

[24:46] any be a little bit tough I know with the uh top of your head could you think of anything that you’d be really excited to have announced at this

[24:54] event I don’t think it’s going to happen but I would say last of us two I just because they just finished Uncharted 4 Last of Us two we get me

[25:03] going so because there’s a personal void for you it’s just I need my last of us I need it um and maybe if if Nintendo would do something um maybe show off

[25:13] their mobile games because they said they would get into mobile games I’m wondering if they would release a Mario or even a Metroid at that point but I I

[25:22] don’t know those are I think I think I’d buy that like a mobile version an iOS version of a Mario game oh for sure I would be done but I don’t think they’ll

[25:31] ever release it I don’t like it would just kill their DS or their 3DS or their new 3DS or their whatever next DS 6ds sure but those are the two

[25:43] announcements I would like to I don’t rare but we’ll see the other day I was chatting with somebody the mech Warrior for some and

[25:53] that would be cool that with a huge massive like control center yeah not even if they could streamline it to a controller I’d be happy but I really

[26:02] want big clunky Mac combo you know I didn’t get a chance to check the Titan fols I don’t have an Xbox one yet um that looked like it would be somewhat

[26:14] satisfying but there was something about the old neck Warrior where these things were so massive like Skyscraper size that they weren’t just a vehicle and

[26:23] part of the multiplayer map like they were the thing if you weren’t in the thing de um and yeah just that just really good

[26:32] me combat I think could be a lot of fun um I think something like that would be would be pretty wicked um I haven’t played one of those in a very long time

[26:42] so that’s kind of why I have a bit of an inch for it um and there was a game I just saw announced today the name of it is totally slipping um actually to see

[26:51] if I can find it while I talked about it um but it was the uh the same Studio who did uh

[27:04] um and uh oh I think I found you can tell him prepared for these things need scrolling music you need the Jeopardy music oh oh

[27:21] here it is here it is here it is oh my goodness it was something Mayhem here it is is Agents Of Mayhem Agents Of

[27:32] Mayhem of Mayhem that’s from the developers of saints row yep and uh volition software they did Saints Row they did um red ption which red ption is

[27:44] one my favorite games I really enjoyed the St Ro series I played them I like them um they are ridiculous they are very crude at times very CR no I don’t

[27:57] know talking about no explain a situation actually my one of my favorite moments was in Road 2 and uh you’re you’re driving your car

[28:09] yours was in the radio and then um final countdown comes on the radio and your character starts singing along the radio and that like okay that’s that’s

[28:24] PR made me really hurt youever play three because I had the same yeah yeah yeah I played through three and I also played

[28:35] um there’s four and there’s G to hell as well yeah I played the four one as well played most the only one I haven’t played is that g the hell one um but I

[28:46] kind of hit in thr when I needed to break um but uh yeah they are they are kind of a bit of a guy pleasure thing there’s some choices that they make

[28:58] narratively and you know that might not be the most politically correct but uh sometimes I just people anyways I know it’s wrong I’m sorry try to be

[29:10] Progressive person but J is just perfectly time um so yeah uh I’m really excited I saw this uh the B trailer that they just released um and

[29:22] there’s some really interesting stuff going on with it um artistically uh just character designs and stuff like that um there’s a bit of that sort of things

[29:33] throw um flare when it comes to the characters and their attitudes um and yeah there was something going on too in the animation

[29:42] of the trailer I don’t know whether it’s obviously not like gameplay Graphics but some of this sort of really nice smoke animation and I’m hoping that it’s

[29:54] pining towards maybe the type of partical effect that they’re using for smoke and fire explosions and stuff it really had this nice rich anime feel um

[30:02] but it was pretty well just isolated to those effects but it really felt nice so I’m hoping it’s an indication it’s in the game visually not just from like

[30:12] Graphics D Point um yeah that’s I want to hear more about that one because I know it exists and if there’s a me warrior thing that slipped in and

[30:21] surprises me I could go for a um I thinking I could go for a good skateboarding game because there hasn’t been really DEC

[30:30] skate like skate itself not Tony Hawk No CU yeah Skate and Skate 2 I think three I don’t know if I ever played three I heard it kind of wasn’t quite as good

[30:40] but just yeah like especially the skate franchise was just fantastic or even like back even going way back there was um competing with Tony Hawk back in the

[30:48] day was Thrasher this is back for PS1 do not remember that it was man it’s a charm if you ever get a chance to find it on an emulator or something cuz it’s

[30:57] got it’s very realistic phys phisics realistic phisics jeez realistic relatively

[31:10] realistic physics where you really can’t just like flop about and connect a thousand things H but it was just it’s very gratifying gameplay like I played

[31:19] the heck out of that game back in the day and that’s why I in fact I like skate so much because it reminded me of it um skate having some silly elements

[31:27] But ultimately having a bit more basis in reality yeah I don’t know like a real solid Good Feeling skate game I think I could get behind tend to like that sort

[31:38] of uh overw World runaround type of feel I think that that would bode well I think for current dad time too cuz that you can just boot up skate around for

[31:47] like 20 30 minutes whatever you end up getting and then baby cries and you just pop off away way you go that seems like a great in between baby crisis filler

[31:56] game imagine that game they’re going to make that VR and it’s just going to be a puke machine just the amount of dizzying effects in it yeah good Lu with that

[32:06] 1080 cuz they they are really having fun with the VR like um the the gamescape of that I think I saw one game it was just called

[32:16] like Arachnophobia or something and it was a virtual room and spiders would come out all it’s going to give people heart attacks yeah like but it’s going

[32:24] to be fun and I’m so ready for it game cuz the YouTube fail videos that are going to come out of that oh my goodness I mean Dad related there was a

[32:37] there’s always a wealth of garbage that comes out with this stuff but this game was it’s like I think they call it like baby firefighter simulator or something

[32:44] of that effect basically it’s you got in VR and you got two call them like uh Nets even and somebody’s throwing babies off of a burning building that so good

[32:55] and your job is to grab them like throw them into the nearby truck so babies are just being thrown with different weights different weights and different floors

[33:04] they fall faster and slower oh just it’s such a good I don’t know that looks fun stupid the first time yeah I think it’s the type of thing like it’s it’s part of

[33:14] the party pack for when somebody asks you why did you spend so much money on this VR set yeah like check this out oh perfect that stuff the yeah we’ll

[33:27] see I I would love to see if play has play has PlayStation announced what the cost of their pack like a I don’t think they

[33:37] announced the bundle Phil what’s that it depends the upgrade with visibility physic ability phys I tried I tried to real

[33:48] realistic phistic I think phistic the no not the upgrade one just like what I’m what I’m looking for is like the the playst the pack where they

[33:58] sell the PlayStation with the new PlayStation VR so Bic the allinone bundle i’ love them to announce that especially with the no man’s sky so I

[34:08] can finally leave this planet and I’m not sick in space like basically Trevor’s just turned into like the guy from Close

[34:21] Encounter of Third Kind his family family been real guys take

[34:33] EAS got be that like sucking sound as as I sign off in real world I think VR VR and toddlers scare me well I know they would scare me if

[34:47] the toddler touched me while I’m in VR you know what I mean like a spider but yes I understand like yeah like if you’re if you’re playing the

[34:56] Arachnophobia game like your kid comes and tickles your leg Yeah like that kid going across the room what what what like that cognitive dist like would that

[35:06] not like oh I think uh you remember you remember when the Wii came out and everyone kept throwing their controllers at the TV screen CU they didn’t put the

[35:17] like armbands on or maybe that came later I don’t know but there’s so many brok had to rease like strap or something cuz the straps um the string

[35:26] of the strap origin wasn’t strong enough the of je that people were pulling so they had to re-release the

[35:35] straps strength to withstand people’s craziness imagine imagine VR now they just give you a bubble to play in like they’re just like you’re GNA break too

[35:45] much stuff yeah it’s like you need to be in one of those hamster things hamster roll around like build into the software because a Vive which

[35:56] takes that um you set up pillars to give you that kind of like 3D space like spatial awareness of your body as soon as like a little tiny body like enters

[36:03] the space like like it just pulls you out of the game like baby alert stop seesaw gaming I just I don’t know there’s something about like it’s like a

[36:14] sensory deprivation tank like I don’t think it it’s a great bit for my life right now like I need my senses and reflexes to be available like I would

[36:25] only feel comfortable doing VR if I knew like the baby was with like Grandma and Grandpa for the weekend and was like another like like City away and then I’m

[36:37] like Okay cool so if I get scared playing like some creepy the ring VR I’m not going to flil and accidentally give my daughter a black

[36:50] eye like their safe distance another postal code away I’m not going to hurt anybody I might stare the dog or break a lamp but nothing bad’s going to happen

[37:02] those I love think of it like this where you’re not up at 6 like 2: in the morning desperately trying to get him to go back to bed you’re actually walking

[37:13] with a bag of baguettes through Paris aing bag of baguettes screaming screaming bag of bag a screaming wet bag of bagett through the streets of Paris

[37:28] you’re a Lonely Farmer on the Irish Countryside with a sack of screaming potatoes perfect it better come with like Dad sleep simulator 2.0 or

[37:40] something just the stack of potatoes to go to sleep my virtu virtually go to bed I’m so well rested so speaking of potatoes and other

[37:50] things that can be converted into alcohol you find dads have some beer recommendations for this week uh I am drinking Samuel Adams better

[38:03] known as Sam Adams for those not know it’s a Boston logger sorry Baston logger and uh it’s good stuff it’s really good beer um I

[38:15] like it I like it a lotec especially if you can get that on tap I always find Sam on tap is really good yeah and they also do really nice

[38:24] um seasonal uh uh selections like you know if if you can they their standard Boston waterers are really good but sometimes they’ll have like nice like a

[38:34] Summer Ale or something and it’s like if you can find them like they’re very seasonal appropriate think the Summer Ale has like citrus SS and stuff was

[38:43] really good um the fall one was like you know you have that with like some roasted root veg and slab of pork and it was really good meal um so yeah if you

[38:53] if you catch any of the seasonal selections there uh definitely check them out um I know if I ever do get a chance to visit Boston their Brewery is

[39:02] definitely on the Stop and I think they were also featured in a documentary called beer Wars it was on Netflix for a while it might still be there I don’t

[39:09] know um but there was talking to like micro breweries and trying to maintain like um Brewery integrity and stuff like that um and it was a really interesting

[39:19] documentary I saw it years ago it was n Bo I think was another in there as well um Dogfish Head that was the other one just

[39:30] reminded me say was that like was that outside help yeah I a friend on that one teleprompter yeah but yeah so I’m

[39:39] drinking s Adams tonight because it’s s Adams is delicious it’s it yes mine’s not as delicious but local 416 local Brewery by Amsterdam

[39:51] Brewery kind of cool it’s got a again it’s not a light one but I was drawn to the art cuz it’s downtown Toronto and it’s got all these little icons and all

[40:00] the streets over it and it’s going to try a little micro bur see what happens it’s not bad it’s not bad yeah it’s good it’s it’s a good kind of just nice clean

[40:11] summer beer I find the summer I like the cleaner ones yeah I I agree and it was hot this weekend so yeah I picked up a I also had a sixpack of Soul

[40:21] um Mexican year yeaha and it was good um going to replace those for me but it was tasty nice and clean and wet

[40:33] refreshing yeah so I have um it’s funny it’s just like teasing because I can’t actually drink it I’m like still super sick and have been for the last couple

[40:40] days but I have a uh D truck I wish oh it has been awful but mil Street West Coast style IPA this one just released from them recently so

[40:53] it tends to be a bit hoppier than I usually like to drink yet they like most most Street stuff they end up pulling it off really well so really clean really

[41:00] crisp really refreshing type of beer and very summery too like they they’ve been working on this one for years the uh the story of it fascinating like

[41:10] hearing it from the I went to a M Street Brew Pub recently where the brew master talked through a couple of the recent beers and I think this started off as a

[41:20] joke beer like built for golfers and then just like slowly through refining process like ended up here and lo and behold they I’m seeing

[41:31] at the bottom there’s actually a specific word just saying like called strong beer there you go 6.6% but uh that ends up being like

[41:41] really nice like I like how they did the Hops like it’s part of a overall story and kind of ends up being a nice uh summary be as well so they were super

[41:48] excited but they just released it this year and uh no so far I’ve liked it the other beer I keep teasing I still haven’t been able to get out and get a

[41:55] can of the other beer I want to talk about so that’ll happen next week hopefully hyping it up okay yeah it’s going to like Drop so hard I should

[42:03] almost get like both a you to buy the same one for next week and have you try it like like the exact same moment well all just sip at the same time yeah you

[42:12] tell me real time Impressions there’s another VR game beer sharing beer taste testing okay just that to be like you know three

[42:24] VR guys get in the same room and you just have to like pass each other that a drink to try yeah just make sure there’s not a

[42:31] fourth guy in the room or some pranks will be pulled oh of the worst bres will be started yeah I don’t know like VR

[42:45] intrigues me but I don’t know if I’m wanting to sign on to it yet you know it’s uh aside from the fact that I already wear glasses

[42:57] um I don’t know there’s just something about it like I maybe I haven’t had the right experience with it yet to have that sense of immersion that will help

[43:06] you have you done VR yet have you like I tried it a few times yeah because even I went to that Game of Thrones thing which is like kind of a crappy is VR it was

[43:15] still pretty fun that was cool going up the wall and I don’t know they had wind effects and stuff which you’re not going to get in your house

[43:23] but that’s how hard to try yeah I know Gavin have you seen videos for I think it’s called I don’t see is a hyper Cube there was a video

[43:33] game yeah and just like you hear people gush about and the reason that people like it Tron right what’s that it’s like kind of a Tron yeah and it’s like

[43:41] literally a wall comes rushing at you and you have to try to like bend the shape yeah to so I’m G to check it out because oh like that game show that game

[43:49] show they had yeah because they had for um The Connect they did like a version of that as well where like you had to make your body a shape it was like a

[43:57] game show that yeah just right like it was this one on TV where it was made likeall coming at you and it would knock you into the water if you didn’t get the

[44:07] shape right and usually the shapes are like get really funky it’s like Tetris consequences Super Hyper Cube I half want to try to like share my screen we

[44:19] I’ll break everything you probably will break it I wouldn’t that’s okay yeah we’re not try any super heavy Q I hear people gush about it all the time who

[44:27] have done VR because it’s not it’s more of an acceptance of the space I don’t I don’t it feels like if anything this thing is so beyond So

[44:36] within his infancy I think where we’re going to get to is kind of exciting because currently it’s like now you instead of being behind a screen you’re

[44:45] now like in the world but it’s the exact same gameplay what Super Hyper Cube was showing was okay like forget you know physical limitations

[44:55] forget like real world like like uh situations things like that like this is an entire world dreamed up for the exact situation of you being in that space and

[45:05] able to control like items so as opposed to like this is me this is what it looks like when you’re in an office it’s like well I’m in an office every day I kind

[45:12] of get that this is more like super magic cubes are flying around and like you’re able to control color and like moods and things like that so it it

[45:21] could be I I’m I’m pretty excited for it I’m very curious to see where it goes and if nothing else for at least no man’s sky so I can disappear but the ENT

[45:31] the rest of where they might take it I think is could be very exciting I hope it lives up to your expectations it just

[45:39] seems like yeah I know I hate I hate wanting something so bad yeah oh please please really do sorry I had to I had to pick on one other thing Gavin did you

[45:50] say you might buy OverWatch yep bull that is I might pick it up um what’s what’s beating you down take us through it it

[46:03] just looks really good just looks really good I really want to play it um yeah that’s really it it’s just like yeah I I’ve always thought it looked

[46:14] like a great game but I was like I just don’t know if I can get back into multiplayer stuff because you know big commitment

[46:23] this uh but I don’t know looking really good although I might get it for the PC um cheaper one it’s cheaper um two uh I think a lot of the um other people that

[46:39] I know who are currently playing it or playing on PC um and I don’t need a secondary subscription service to access multiplayer so you know because like in

[46:51] reality since I don’t really have uh Playstation Plus um if I was to start back into multiplayer games um I would have the 80 bucks or so for the game and

[47:03] then an additional like what 50 60 bucks for so it’s like that’s that’s a fair trunk to drop in on that so and plus it gives me something to play on the PC

[47:12] which I haven’t really had for a little while with the exception of OCT dad the other day but so yeah you heard me right I think I

[47:23] might of course saying that it’s probably still a month away but no I’m I’m I’m leaning towards picking it up um when Steam summer sales coming up yeah

[47:33] but it’s uh blizzard Ah that’s true yeah that’s true and plus it looks like a decent game I think I could I could get full price amount it especially since

[47:41] the PC pricing is different than console which is always it’s funny because I almost I’m C I’m absolutely drawn to it like you are um although I I so badly

[47:52] wish I could trade Star Wars Battlefront for this game game like I I I’m so I was so disappointed in that game like I’m so sad that I bought it um so if I can

[48:05] exchange that money and instead get this OverWatch because especially just it looks incredible looks fun reasons enough to buy it certainly but just it’s

[48:13] almost just supporting that type of game as like a vote of confidence for something like that like it’s not a military shooter it’s not gray it’s not

[48:24] same it’s like there’s no single player campaign right it’s all multier but I just mean like it’s so colorful it’s so cheery

[48:32] it’s like a focus on fun it’s focus on positivity like they built all these systems around ensuring that it’s not about poning noobs and like killing and

[48:41] being the best it’s about you know teamwork and having a great time certainly the victory element absolutely but I mean voting for the other team

[48:49] having an ability to vote for the other team’s healer as a player of the game who like because they contributed so greatly like it’s all these incredible

[48:57] there was one element that got pointed out to me that like when you call up the list like usually you could call up a list during a multiplayer game and see

[49:06] who where the kill numbers are like you don’t get the entire team you don’t see your ranking against everybody else it’s just like here’s you here’s how you’re

[49:14] doing MH right so it’s just this old like Soup To Nuts like incredible like personal little stories incredible colorful diverse characters Super Fun

[49:26] World like focused on positivity and just it’s yeah there’s something kind of magical about it that I almost want to support from a you know consumer point

[49:36] of view it’s like yes this is this is great this is a great game I’d love to see does it be a great game for my kid like this is this the type of thing I’d

[49:43] love to see gaming go towards as opposed to like the Call of Duty stuff well just yeah it’s well that that’s not fair Call of Duty is is absolutely fine it’s a

[49:52] that’s a great series that’s I I really retract that that’s not the right way to put it but it’s just that this type of game can also exist yeah it allows

[50:00] something else to also exist alongside it like they don’t all have to be military Shooters um they can be military

[50:10] Shooters can be very fun but to have something out there that’s refreshingly light and playful and even though it’s people shooting at each other it’s

[50:22] friendly you know it’s there’s something about it something inviting I think that’s the one thing about the military shooters that are at right now is

[50:30] that because of the the competitive nature of it and the leaderboard focused um mentality behind it it can be uninviting and with the way OverWatch is

[50:44] balanced stuff and not just visual Aesthetics but just in game’s design itself it seems far more of an inviting environment and an inclusive

[50:55] environment um where the military shooters that are out now have this sort of elite status to them and it’s like you have to be the best of the best to

[51:05] play with the best which is fine but for those of us out there who aren’t um for those of us out there who might have fallen off the curve um I

[51:16] think this is the first instance of it slowly starting to happen to me and me eventually becoming that parent in the tech store asking stupid question um

[51:27] it’s it’s me no longer having that edge with the competitive military multiplayer Shooters um but something like OverWatch just looks like simple

[51:37] fun um you know and I might play it and not like it I don’t know butly like it’s worth a shot it’s giving enough evidence to give it a

[51:51] try just looks like man the gorilla man monkey a sassy British lurk y her great everybody I think that will
